Living story is straight forward, no decisions, nothing personal, everyone get’s the same dish. Personal Story is not to be continued.
New dynamic events are only fail or success anyways, so there is very little to argue.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
There is nothing more heroic than crafting a weapon or armor made of farmed resources digged from the ground.
Yeah, digging in the dirt is what you have to do to get the greatest shinies in GW2, for weeks.
This reminds me of Monty Python every single time, “The Holy Grail” to be specific. For one we have the scene where the one guy is digging in the dirt for whatever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xd_zkMEgkI
Additinally we have the song of the “Brave Sir Robin”. Sorry mobs, I’m just here for the ore, bye!

And mounts of course, or better no mounts! ^^

Ah it is one of those threads again, where the OP has absolutely now clue how damage works in GW2.
Hint: In many cases, the 1h weapons do more damage than the 2h weapons anyway and the damage number on the weapon itself has no meaning in matters to compare weapons to each other, only to compare the same weapons quality.
Giving 2h weapons two slots might bring some of them up to par with 1h weapons, it’s about time.

I really, realy hope, if/when they introduce legendary armor, the ascended stuff will be equiv of precursor. Heck, we got soo much invested, it would make sense.
Why would ANet waste another chance to make you grind for weeks? That is their idea of long-term content.
So you will start from scratch when they continue the gear grind with legendary.
Crafting to 600 probably, not with me though…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You don’t need Ascended armor. The stat increase over Exotics is minor. So if you’ve given up on getting these, you can still play the game as normal.
Hey, you don’t need exotic armor. And you do not need to play the game at all.
You can run around naked and kill stuff. Ascended armor is trivializing the content, so if you want a challenge, don’t use it.
This whole “you don’t need ascended items” bullkitten is as bad as the talk back in the days of WoW. If you don’t raid, you do not need this stuff.
Thank good this game was build on horizontal progression where everyone is on the same power level.
BiS for everyone. Sure as hell. Loot in this game is mess. Ascended items are the extra bit of poop on top of it.

Hey! Sorry that I didn’t answer to your PM, I am fairly busy with my new third member of my family lately, so GW2 is not a priority.
Unfortunately, I have only written a leveling guide for Mesmers, as all other professions I leveled felt fairly straight forward and easy.
I once thought about writing a necro leveling guide so maybe if you need help with that, I could offer some ideas.

I would be really disappointed now, if we would get the jungle dragon.
Nothing in the whole living story was even related to a jungle location. So yeah, Scarlet is a Sylvari but hey, I just dislike story finals where at a totally random place something totally random happens.

I know what Scarlet is looking for under LA: “The Manifesto”!
It must have been burried somewhere there with all the good ideas. She wants to save Tyria from the neverending grind.
God bless you Scarlet!

1. Mesmer: Least played class for a reason. Bugs, bugs and bugs again. Not in the PvP meta, pretty much usless in zerg Wv3 outside being a bot. Build variety in PvE equals zero, weak PvE performance in general. Main class system (shatter) hardly utilized.
Probably just not enough people playing a mesmer though, so it won’t be high on the list anyways…
2. Necro: Seems like the profession goes nowhere and the Dev’s do not know what to do about it. Rethink the concept of the profession and create a solid base.
3. Ranger: Make it work.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
At the end of the day, this will be seen as working as intended.
Perfect timing for a Wv3 (sort of) update, to break the mesmer class in PvP. At least let one of the million warrior testers inhouse try to play a mesmer. How a bug like this can go live and stay for over 20 hours is beyond me…
Where is your eSports centric thinking now? If this is game is seen as eSports, this kind of stuff should not happen, letting it sit for hours is a crime and a shame.

She and Zojja then Sparta kick Scarlet down some lava pit.lol or better yet…
Then Taimi refuses, “I am an Asura like my

Scarlet’s confused look…then wide eyes…Taimi’s resemblance to Omadd becomes apparent, just as Scruffy’s fist smashes down upon Scarlet. Squish, salad, pulp, just add Ranch.-THE END-
Nah, we had this Asuran father and son relation drama already in GW1, Anet would not recycle that for GW2 with a father – daughter thing would they…?

Reminds me of Forrest Gump. Does this make me a bad person?
“Run Taimi, run!”
So let’s see:
1. We have Rox, a gladium – which means unemployed.
2. Braham, who grew up only with his father – which means single parent family.
3. Kasmeer and Marjory being more than just close – gay relationship.
4. Taimi can’t really walk – disabled. If we put any more social RL conflict into Destiny’s Edge 2.0, we have a TV soap…

5. Canach – The bad boy character.
Ah thx, added Canach, the criminal. ^^

Scarlet is the daughter of Dexter and his sister Dee Dee.
Proof: Genetics!
She got the hairstyle of her mother and the hair colour of her father.
She got the insanity of her mother and the genius of her father
She likes toys like her mom and loves science like her dad.
And she destroys things.
Thank god she looks more like her mum though…

“In most games, you go out and you have really fun tasks occasionally that you get to do and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff. I swong a sword. I swong a sword again. Hey! I swong it again and that’s great. We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that, no one finds it fun, we want to change the way that people view combat.”
Anet must find their own game horribly boring as what they described as no fun is what most of their game is made of.
They said other games have boring grind and they want to make their game fun.
Do the math:
Grind = boring = no fun
Therefore:
No grind = not boring = fun
Now to say, that there is a bit less grind than in other games is:
A little bit less grind = A little bit less boring = a little bit fun
A really fun game they said…

Junk is held onto in anticipation of needing it at a later date? Check.
Bags fill up with junk? Check.
Players buy gems to increase bank and inventory storage to keep up with the junk? Check.
Appears to be working exactly as intended. Don’t forget they hired someone from Nexon who was involved in the Maple Story economy to advise them on game monetization. The fact that there is so much junk cluttering up our collective inventories is no accident. Use it, sell it, or delete it.
Because Tyria needs conspiracy theorists too.
Nope, that’s how it works if you want to sell bank and bag slots in a subscribtion free game. Implement as many currencies as possible be it tokens or event items, flood the players.

Scarlet = Permanent Content? Answer: No.
Scarlet = Permanent Failure? Answer: Yes.
You have to learn to ask the correct questions. As Scarlet is the main actor of the LS (Trahearne 2.0 so to say), she will be moving on with the story arc and so she will this time with the next update soon.
Maybe Trahearne and Scarlet will have a child, Scarhearne, that would be as useless as his parents and still the main character of the plot of GW2. Who knows…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Well to be honest, Wv3 is sort of an ugly child of PvP and PvE, and there must have been a lot of alcohol be part of the process bringing them together. So it is somehow ok for PvEes to go there.
The new map on the other hand is just a random team deathmatch. Random teams, random players from random servers. It is not even Wv3, it is just an arena.
I am still surprised that the Wv3 people are so happy about it.
But this new map will be a nightmare for PvE people. Questing on a de facto FFA PvP map with anonymous players.
That doesn’t sound like Wv3, it sounds like a slaughter.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Honestly, I see a lot of complaining incoming. PvE was strictly separated from PvP in this game.
While the Wv3 people tend to call the PvE players “loot bags”, the PvE players must obviously be the majority and have more voice (we will see how many players are on the Wv3 maps tomorrow)…
PvE players do not care about the stupid zerking around on a map for hours, they want to see the story.
Wv3 players do not give a dime about story, they want to bash other players heads.
Two worlds will collide, oh so much friction…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Shatter is good for spike damage and for fast fights. That is why it works best in open world content when the mobs have low health and you want to tag something too.
If you run more focused content, like dungeons or fractals, go with a phantasm build. Personally I would recommend to go with a standard 10/20/0/25/15 build and adapt to your preferences.
Timing is not as critical as with a shatter build (timing is always important though, but you can manage your defense more easily with phantasm builds as your offense is mainly your phantasm damage + auto attack, while you have to manage both at the same time with a shatter build) and you have more options with you traits.

What happens when someone finally posts a guide to the precursor quest? That means it won’t be that hard anymore.
Crafting the bloody thing is not hard even without a guide.
Crafting is lame. It is not heroic. A drop feels awesome. A quest feels like an accomplishment.
Crafting stuff feels tedious. It feels as much as a grind as it is to get the stuff. A quest chain would at least make one thing in this game not grindy. God forbid.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
To be honest, back in the early days, GS sucked. The animation on attack1 was so slow, you could go on a cigarette break in between the attacks. You go rooted long enough by attack3 to think the game had frozen.
I leveled sword/pistol + staff. But oh, the joy of the GS patch that was the best day in GW2 ever.
Everyone knows that I love the GS. It is unique (GS for ranged, how awesome is that) in this game. Every one knows that I love shatter. For me, that is how the mesmer was created in mind.
Combining those two is a perfect symbiosis.
GS = <3

Really, one year of disappointing story telling and we get told to wait to the very end to see that the boring story had a reason to be boring?
Now we have three updates left, and honestly, if you play “The Sixth Sense” with us, let me tell you: This won’t work in a video game with the very little story streched over a whole year+.
The LS is bad, even a fulminant ending won’t save that this 90 minute movie was boring 85 straight.
Good luck with your next story though…

You’ll have to wait and see how we integrated story into the release. I think it works pretty well but I’m biased. I am looking forward to the feedback we receive next week.

I also know the entire plot a year in advance.
And you didn’t fix it? Shame on you. ^^

Someone who says that GW2 boss fights in dungeons are something else than boring has never had cool boss fights in a RPG it seems.
kitten , if we are talking about the other game I’ve stopped playing over half a decade ago, look back at AQ40. When it was still new and shiny. Battleguard Sartura, Ouro, C’thun.
Just great trinity fights. Very little tank&spank. Very much movement. And still some control over the bosses.
I am fairly sure, that the raids must have improved over the years. The trinity is not bad, as long as the system it gets placed in is fresh and exciting.
What is bad though is, if every class feels more or less the same, as if you want to be efficient and therefore wanted in an instance, you are pigeonholed into one type of gameplay…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The biological approach of Tengu with breasts would be interesting.
I, for one, welcome more realistic armor sets and birds without boobs.

The problem in GW2 is that the bosses are as dumb as the trash.
They only have very basic mechanics which feel way more scripted than in other games.Boss has no taunt or aggro mechanic which makes him act random.
Boss has no targeting priorities, which makes the fights chaotic.
Boss has spells you have to dodge whatever role you play.Learn the script of the boss skills, dodge, profit.
That’s the core. Honestly. For me, that is shallow as kitten…
In one post you call the fights both chaotic and scripted.
Contradictions are fun.
The skills feel scripted, the fight feels chaotic, because there is no way to control it.
If you know the skills and when to dodge, it doesn’t matter that the encounter is chaotic by nature, you will succeed.
As long as you might stack melee the kitten out of the boss.

In the end it is the players fault that run around in green, yellow or even exotic gear. Get ascended armor (berserker stats) or go home.
If you are not 80, log out when the event starts and be a burden for some random overflow. Or better, port to another map.
This is a raid event and it needs the coordination and effort of a raid encounter. If you can not contributing enough, you hinder the other players in their progress. Go away.
I heard stuff like that during the fight left and right. If that is what ANet wants for their LS, they should create more raid events in the open world. GG…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Because the whole raid would have had to be put in an instance to make the platform part of the event.
Than this would have been an instanced raid. That’s why.

GW2 has a new and improved trinity: Damage, Control, Support. A far superior, more flexible and more complex system. A system that requires a lot more team coordination to really shine.
orly
Yes, really. […]
How anyone can see complexity in this system is beyond me, sorry.
I see more depth in my 2D TV if I wear 3D classes, than I see in the role system of GW2…Your sig seems to indicate you play a mesmer, and you can’t see the complexity in the system? That’s a little worrisome. Are you aware of what skills you have and not only what they do but when is a better time to use them? The various ways you can use focus 4 for a variety of effects? The value of chaos storm in damage, control and support simultaneously? Do you spam great sword 3 off cool down or are there more opportunistic times to use it? Any of that stuff? How about the variability with casting feedback (with or without a target), or how traits can enhance null field and feed back to have even greater effects, which can completely alter how/when you’d cast them?
No depth?
Because it doesn’t change the fact, that PvE is (and will be even after the zerker gear nerf) all about max damage melee might stacking.
And PvP is all about the meta.
There is only one role in PvE, DD. Support and Control? That’s just gimmicky stuff that most classes in games with a trinity have too.
There is the meta in PvP, you are in the meta, or you are out.
This game has no role variety, not even if you try hard to make one up…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The platforms are part of the event, they are in the zone. You are not porting to some other instance, just some distance.
I do not think ANet can code separate instances connected to the same event. It has to be all on the same map.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
Anet could have made it an 80th level thing and leveled everyone to 80 like they did for other content and that would work too. I honestly don’t know why they didn’t.
This had puzzled me at the very start of the event. Why no upscaling?
But the answer is obvious, upscaling only works for a whole zone. They would have had to create an instance for the event to level everyone to 80, but for whatever reason they didn’t.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Well over the year, you will replace all your ascended items with legendary items. But not all at once, more like piece by piece, ANet wants to keep the item grind alive.
Other than that? Who knows…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
No Sir. Locking out players from below a certain level from certain zones isn’t instancing. It’s just logic. The other thing Anet could do is increase the cost of being in a higher level zone to the point where it’s not worth it.
This is about low attrition in the open world, nothing else.
Edit: I didn’t mean to lock them out of the zone…just the platforms.
Sure, if you do not let those players enter the platform, you are instancing the platforms for a certain player group (let’s say level 50+). There you go.
Or your other idea is to rework the whole open world, instead of just instancing the events you want to be instanced, sort of…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Locking out players from open world content?
Sounds like instancing to me. Why do you have such a hard time with instances for content on the one hand, but want to instance the content on the other.
Be it layers, level borders, gear check, whatever, it is still just instancing the event.
Open world content is for everyone. If they separate the players in the open world, they can just instance it. Otherwise it would erode the whole idea of open world content.

In the open world, players can go whereever they want.
Open world. It is open, not closed. It might be more dangerous for a low level player to go to Orr, but if he/she wants to do so, that’s OK.
Look, some companies promote their game like this. In LotRO there is an event to bring hobbits under the level 10 to high level places. So this can even be part of the game design.
If people make it to places, they can try to participate. Open world content is open for everyone. They can die a 1000 times in a minute and they would not be grieving. It is their own decision.
That is why challenging content in many games is instanced. The designers can set “rules” for the players. Which makes the design or the event predictable for both, Devs and players.
ANet for some random reason thinks this kind of balancing is bad and places their raid content in the open world.
Now you blame the players for participating? You call them trolls and grievers? Sorry you got it all wrong. They have every right to be there.
In Soviet Tyria, ANet trolls you.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The platforms are bad design, even the designers acknowledged this.
But hey, Vayne. The event will be gone soon, and noone is forcing you to do so. If you do not like a LS, just don’t do it. The achievements are optional. Just guest on another server maybe, one that finishes the event every single time.
Or you could set up a raidgroup and camp an overflow to “fix” the open world problem.
Strange enough to see you moan over a concept you defended all the time. The LS and open world raid content.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Well, open world is open world. There could be 99 level 1 chars and you the only level 80 and it would still be ok.
Why would you report the players? Because they play the game by participating in a open world event? They do not grief, they play the game.
It is ANets kittened open world raid design that is the failure. But hey, they call it their new and exciting invention, so they will stick with this kitten for all time, because it would be to hard for them to accept their own design failure…
