The first point can be easily fixed by the players themselves. The second point is already proven to be false, as there’s a tiny advantage, but not unfair.

No such thing has been proven, and 10% is not a tiny advantage in statistical terms it is significant.

It is actually an 11% advantage in Effective Power if you have all ascended trinks and a weapon vs. all exotics. That advantage will probably got to 16% or more once armor comes out.

I’ll quote you but, adress all of this mindset. I did a rough calculations when Ascended rings were first made available. Each ring has about 10% stats increase compared to their exotic counterparts (crit D rings are exceptions since Anet has made CritD somewhat odd in point allotments.) So if I had 1 Ascended ring, I will have 10% more stats for that slot. But there is 13-14 slots so 10%/13=0.76% stat increase, that is not counting the base stats everyone already has. When Ascended armor comes into play the most anyone will have an advantage over another is 10% if you are looking at Ascended vs Exotics.

But lets look at weapons:
Compare two swords:

Not even 10% if you combined them.

However the back piece and the weapon is the onlything you have to really grind for outside of WvW, everything else is already available to you via Laruels so you are at a 1.5% stats disadvantage, less than 100 points of stats in terms of Ascended vs Exotics. In WvW there is no fair 1v1 2v2 3v3 20v20. Even one extra players brings thousands of stat points, extra CD, extra synergy to the fight than every piece of ascended gear out there.

You are doing it wrong. Make it simple… start by going here:

Now, trick out full zerker exotics and a 30/10/0/0/30 war. Note the Effective Power (Effective Power is total power output including crit dmg and crit strike).

Take that template, and replace zerker exotics with ascended trinkets and ascended weapon. Note the Effective Power. Do the basic math, and you will see where I got my 11% difference in Effective Power number.

Except if you look at that site again and see that whenever a Ascended Weapon is placed in the main hand it adds an aditional 5% damage (on top of the Sigil of Force). I took a quick look around the site to see if there was a reasoning on it, but didn’t find it.

Assuming that the 5% is calculated erroneously I swapped the sigil of force for the healing stack sigil. And I got a EP of 6933.5 (6.4% power increase) which is slightly higher than my projected .76% per piece, but as I have stated that CritD conversion is odd when it comes to stat calculations because not ever piece of gear trades crit D for the same amount of stats. In the case of Ascended trinkets the stat trade off is slightly better for every piece.

I rather them not add more crafting, though I know it’s going to happen. It’s a huge thing for the game economy (yeah not many WvWers care but it’s important for a healthy MMO). I too would like them to add more ways with CURRENT items to get ascended for WvWers. I love the currency backpack but would like to see it shrink not grow, same with crafting mats (but this is more for economy).

if i can drop the enemy 2 seconds faster, I’m happy with that – a team of 40 in full ascended gear would make it 80 seconds faster.

It depends what perspective you want to look at it from ….. it is important to drop 1 enemy asap and move on. It’s not logical to take on a whole zerg with 1 person, so that comparison is irrelevant. – but it is logical for an entire zerg to take out a small group of people asap.

First off if it takes a 40 man zerg 80sec + to fight a 5-10 man crew then I think that 40man zerg need that ascended handicap and more. But that logic is flawed, if you shave 2 sec off with your ascended gear vs their non-ascended gear your zerg won’t shave 80sec off total of wiping a 5 man team or solo roamer.

However it it feels like you are still makeing it as if it’s 40 man zerg runs into a 5 man group, everyone stops and pick out who gets to duel who. Because the scenario where the .75% or 1.5% stat increase will be “just” enough to kill someone to shave off time for another attack to save you time. IE they are at 1500 HP and your attack only did 1498 damage and requires another auto to kill him, but if you only spent hours of grind and gotten that ascended weapon and did instead 1650 damage you could’ve saved that precious 2 seconds. No what happens is 40 man zerg runs into 5 man crew, commander ether ignores it and runs on past (most do unless it’s inside an objective). Some might stay and chase (baddies anyways) but if the commander does decide to crush them, the 30+ attacks hitting them at once is going to obliterate any chance of marginally killing anyone, that’s why in largish fights, and even alot of focused 5v5ish fights you take someone to the downed state and then see a bunch of “invurln” pop up while they get the 1 sec of it between the alive state and downed state. Those are wasted attacks, and is well over any marginal wins you might get from the ascended piece.

Magic Find %... Does it really matter?

but I think most people who build on magic find, it’s not always about the profit margin (not speaking for everyone), but more about the pleasant surprise. You might have wasted 800g’s salvaging greens/blues to get to 200 and something MF, an amount that could get you lets say Dusk. But buying dusk from the TP isn’t anywhere near as exciting as you farming or WvW or running a dungeon and randomly getting a Dusk.

I would actually be 100% for that if we could pull it off.

This is what I had from earlier in the page before I got demoralized by the fact that I messed up SoS’s matches and didn’t want to do those again…

JQ    3 1 1 1 2 2 1 = 27

BG    1 2 1 3 1 1 2 = 27

It requires BG to throw the 4th week match, which is impossible naturally, but could be done because its Maguuma (they will definitely push as hard as they can). We 3 would all get first. I really want SoS and Mags to tie for 3rd as well, but it’s such a pain to plan without too many thrown matches (shooting for none), and I don’t think its possible to get one of them to tie with TC.

TY for out of the box thinking! I posted on another thread that it would be easy for BG and SoR to manipulate a tie. I’m completely for a 3 way tie. Heck, I’d go with a 6 way tie if it’s statistically possible. Just to show what we can do as a community when we work together.

Well unless Anet decides to use start of server ranking as the tie breaker, then that would be terrible… for SoR and BG.

how exactly do you tell if someone else is wearing ascended jewelry ? or a skinned ascended weapon ?

kind of renders that whole argument moot.

That’s what I’m saying, how do you know when someone just beat you only because of ascended pieces. This is based on an assumption that everyone you play has ascended and you don’t or at least the weapon and you don’t. The minute difference in stats is neglible unless you have eeveryting else stacked against you as in you don’t have guard buffs, sigil stacks, bloodlust buff and they have ascended.

Not to mention the fact that they (ANet) stated there would be no vertical gear treadmill, only horizontal; meaning that no matter what statwise you will always have the highest stat gear (exotics), but would have to work for better looking skins. This has yet to happen because there is really no work done to get a good skin, other than a legendary and for that you need heavy RNG not just working towards a goal. I hope anet gives up on ascended (armor especially since it has yet to be implemented) and continue to work with what they stated before release which was a big part of why I bought the game (as I’m sure it was for many others).

Kind of sucks that all the grinders who like vertical progression and power creep came to this game. There are several other games out there that would meet their needs, but sadly they came here and the developers are catering to them.

I mean, who enjoys brainless champ trains and dull, endless farming? This game is becoming a glorified skinner box.

Actually this is a lie, go read the post in General Discussion about Anet and what they actually said before launch, there are links and everything for you to see that Anet never said there won’t be gear treadmill.

Anet didn’t cater to anyone’s needs in terms of Ascended gear, it came out and most people were able to adapt to it. So that statement is born of total ignorance.

I would imagine less people enjoy brainless champ farming than brainless zerging around, considering whenever I go to do champ runs for a bit of gold I see a max of mayhbe 20 people, how many of those “mindless” zergs do you see in WvW? But that point is moot as champ farming isn’t the main requirement for ascended weapons, world bosses are and aside from tequatl ou can pretty much look at any of the numerous website boss timer and get there in time or last minute t oget in a few hits to get the dragonites.

Let me guess, you still don’t want to be “forced” to play a game mode to be on even ground with someone else. You aren’t many people, I would say most people who WvW exclusively have not seen a decrease in their performance due to ascended gear. I have never ever heard in TS or guild chat where someone has told me “man that guy only won cause he was totally decked out in Ascended gear” or “WHO THE kitten IS STILL IN EXOTICS, JUST LEAVE WVW YOU SCRUB”.

If you are talking about GvG or Roaming(for self gratification, not scouting/havoking), which it effects the most then you aren’t playing WvW as intended.

WvWvW Invites Unhealthy Habits

Warning, this is only my opinion. This mode will need constant population rejuvenation, more than any game I’ve played. Why? You create a “persistent” map and slapped a scoreboard on it. Upgrading takes ages and the people who invest hefty sums of gold often feel the need to invest equally hefty amounts of time just so they don’t feel like they wasted their money. Not only that, but someone has to literally sit and do basically nothing, and get nothing in order for structures to strengthen because you’ve made siege and going on the offensive in general so outrageously strong(this not counting the thirty second contested delay) that casual play is out of the question for anyone who cares about performance, look away for ten minutes and it’s gone!

Leagues might have brought in new blood but I can pretty much guarantee they too will be chased away from caring about the score board and probably this mode or game in general once they find out how WvWvW wins really work. Trying to make something so horrendously imbalanced competitive is a bad idea. A game that could have been really fun has been reduced to work and it has gotten worse with this league nonsense because some people have been duped into thinking that the winner is now magically somehow no longer predetermined. The most fun I had was running around with my guildmates and ignoring the bogus idea of PPT. People want to fight other players or simulate war, not play Whack-A- Mole.

That’s your view on the game, not everyones. There are those who are willing to stay up 12+ hours in WvW to command and push their server and there are those who come in to just roam around and have their personal victory. But there are many inbetweens. There is no adverse effects of losing at WvW so the stress is self-inflicted, and for some that’s welcomed and they enjoy that type of feels. I love for my server to win and I’d gladly donate large sums of gold to help support my server (for upgrades and such not transfers, just in case some smart kitten wants to jump in). But I don’t pressure myself into playing WvW 24/7, GW2 is more than just WvW (to some this is all they see and I don’t have anything against that). If I spent 3 gold to upgrade a keep and it drops an hour later, then I just shrug it off, it’s a game of risk. If you are asking for the rewards, then you are playing the wrong game mode and possibly the wrong game.

I find it funny that up to the point when Leagues started everyone was blamming Anet for promoting transfers to T1 servers so they can make money off of gems. Now there are people who is saying the opposite that anet warned against it by giving free transfers.

I’m really not taking a side, but where were these arguments then? If there are fair weathered WvWers jumping on bandwagong servers there is even more fairweathered forum warriors, hiding in the dark until their time to strike.

As for longer que’s anyone who is in T1 and possibly T2 and didn’t actually expect a long que after leagues starteed are probably not bright enough to be any help in WvW anyways. I also suspect half the complainers that throws out the solution of “just increase cap limit, just upgrade hardware, just have more maps” are PvEer’s could care less about the state of WvW and just want these things to ease their process of Achievement hunting and then be on their way.

I can somewhat understand the complaint on skill lag and super duper long que’s but blaming it on the JP? It literally takes 10-15mins to complete and when I went there to get the Meta done I’ve seen at most 5 people from all 3 servers, including myself. If those 5 people at a time are causing the 3240985320985 hours of que time and horribad skill lag then imagine what the 285 other people are doing. I think the JP should stay and everything else removed.

that is a sad state of match up for those servers. I agree, but I am refering the the OP’s post specifically blaming it on the JP for the lag, as if removing them will alleviate the newbies from comming in to do ANY of their achieves. Further more on T1 que’d maps is a regular occurance and saying that PvE-ers comming to cause this type of lag is a false statement because even on normal days with que’d maps T1 NA does not get this kind of lag even in large fights, it’s something in the code rather than the players.

Que times is a different story.

It dosen’t matter how much you QQ over the fact Ascended gear is in the game. Its here to stay and alot of us like it and use it. Just because you refuse to do the work to get it doesn’t mean those who do shouldn’t be able to use it. You have no one to blame for yourself, and before you throw that out again, I dont’ champ farm. I play the game.

I play the game and have piles of bloodstone dust, 15 dark matter, and 30 of everything else. What magical activities are you doing to get all of the mats?

You like it huh? Of course you do, because it gives you a statistical advantage over other players. But wait, most of its ardent defenders claim it “doesn’t make a difference” in WvW and the stat gains are trivial. So which is it?

I find it funny that a pure WvWer like yourself and your guild is incappable of beating against mindless blobs of 6% stats increase on the weapon. You’re argument is that you don’t want to play another game mode and those that do have an advantage over you. I’ll agree to that if Anet puts a time limit on how much WvW you can do per day so that people who spends all their time in WvW does not have a skill advantage over those who chose to play the rest of the game as well as WvW.

New Borderland Map coming

I guess anything is better than the queue, but I really don’t like the idea of a pointless map. It seems like a waste of time to make a new map that doesn’t count toward anything.

It would be better to make two maps. One that actually counts toward stuff and then also make the overflow map as well.

What I am seeing described isn’t WvW. It is just a pvp map that takes a lot of people.

Just jump around in LA then.

From personal experience, not that I have taken the time to log my every move. I have notice a higher chance of exotics/rares while playing as my MF% increase (current luck is at 148%), in certain fractals, dungeons or events I will throw up the MF booster and food which pushes me past 200.

I’ve notice tat most of my exotics are drops from just trash mobs, and rarely do I get one from a chest or box (Vol’s point I believe).

I agree it’s been great.

The hostility towards other players coming in to WvW on some of the T1 servers is pretty sad. Really not a good way to grow a community.

OCeanic SoR here and I don’t think the SoR community is that hostile towards the influx of the newbies. At least not while I am on TS listening, most of us agree it does suck from time to time but it’s always better to ahve new WvW players.

That’s the way how it works. If SoR can’t get SBI they take BG. And as I said last matchup, BG and their fairweather guys weren’t online the whole week.
And SoR knows they will beat BG in their matchup because of their EU and OCX force.
BG will understand it some day.

As long as SoR takes first and JQ helps make it happen its all good.

You really are trying hard to suggest SOR to 2v1 BG so that JQ won’t get third.

Its obvious the BG/SoR aren’t gonna do anything but 2v1 JQ over some perceived rigging of the league.

If we are not gonna take first may as well decide who will get it. And since BG is the loudest QQ….gratz on the win SoR.

If SoR was smart they would be focussing on BG now.

If we are smart we would do what the losing server tells us to do? No thanks.

heres the problem with all these threads,

you guys want WvW to fail.

The truth is the more people who get involved with and who enjoy WvW, the better it really will get, the better it will be supported.

you guys are just mad because you had your own little corner and no one cared, so you had it to yourself, now, its being improved, and has become more rewarding so others are getting involved.

Why would Anet put time and effort into solving things like lag with many players and skill delay, if there is never a lot of people fighting? Why would they dedicate large amounts of resources to new maps, if they are doing it for a mode only 5% of the playerbase plays? Why would they continue if players who used to WvW 2 hours are slowly cutting their time to 10 minutes, and maybe an hour on weekends?

the truth is the more people who play and are interested in WvW, the better it will be, and the stronger future it has.

You guys want your apartment to be crappy and in a crime infested neighborhood so that no one comes there and rent is cheap, that type of thinking leads to you getting evicted when they close the building.

Instead of telling Anet to make WvW less appealing, tell them to make more maps, and new content. If anet sees that all servers generally can support more people, they are going to build in more new areas/expand etc. Try to think about more than just how long your queue was for the opening weekend of the biggest deal in Wvw since launch, and more about how to get even more players so that you will have a better game

WvW has been in the game for a year.

Many s pve’r didn’t play it.

Anet added easy achievements.

Now there is a massive influx into WvW.

Obviously they are there for the achievements, not the WvW.

Logical….I know.

And none of those PvE-ers will find that they enjoy WvW and definitely leave WvW forever once its done too right?

Pretty sure the Very high population but low WvW participation servers created that problem on their own.

Lose a few weeks gain more WvWers in the end doesn’t seem register at all for you guys.

A week or two of suffering to get potentially more WvWers depending on how your server treat these “newbies” is definitely worth it in the long run. So if you trash talk them and yell at them, when the ques are no longer there and you wonder why your server WvW Population sucks so bad compared to the other servers. you just have to look in the mirror.

Honestly, who cares. No one really knows the real prize for first place in leagues is, for all we know it could be a big soggy sack of karma boosters. If anything JQ should be complaining about the lack of a good fight for so many weeks.

I don’t know about everyone else, aside from the terrible que at certain times, I actually enjoy the WvW this week. There is constant action everywhere, if some random unknown prize at the end of the tunnel is worth the gripe then you guys are probably not WvW-ing for the right reasons anyways.

i use a hammer on my warrior i do the same damage as a great sword i use three pieces of armor knight and the other one are berzerker all with the rune of hoelbrak

You are comparing Damage per hit and not per second. Axe is by far the highest Autoattack. I’m not sure on the full numbers on but someone messaged.

and leagues are going to change how you play in what way?

Plan which week to give up and not even log into wvw I’m guessing. That or to pre-emptively complain on the forums.

Here’s a simple thought; why not buff it up to +150 to all skill attributes and have 3 point stomps for T1 servers and leave the rest alone? I think that would make mostly everyone happy.

Because even the T1 servers don’t want the buff, if you actually took time to read instead of throwing a tantrum you would know. We care about the stomp bonus because it promotes more skill play. If the enemy was downed before we would just aoe them down and not even bother trying to stomp and risky getting downed yourself.

Most of the T1 vs All tiers is invalid. 3 points per stomp is going to demoralize the losing server more? Yeah cause 400k vs 100k looks much better than 433k vs 110k. You want less zerging yet the one thing that did break the group up somewhat and you.re still crying about it.

Weird I thought this was already part of the game, I remember reading the wiki a year ago to check up and confirm the 5 max target and saw this:

“An area of effect skill may only affect a maximum of 5 targets, determined by proximity: Only the 5 closest enemies to the centerpoint of the area of effect will be affected. Similiarly, when affecting allies, closest party members are affected first, followed by closest non-party member allies. "

Ether way I see no problem with it, left over buffs still affect pugs and randoms. I rather this and have a controlled buff than randomly getting buffs then randomly have no buffs.

I don’t really understand where the players are comming from when it comes to the stomp bonus. Almost every complaint was about the stats, and I think what they’ve done to it is decent, I could careless if they took stats away all together. I thought the stomp bonus was a great thing. It put in more decisions for the commander (decide if it’s worth the risk to stomp for more points or better to AoE the downed vice risk getting people killed.).

But if you think that stomping will help the over populated server win “harder?” then so be it, Anet can take the stomps away for all I care. Blow-out matches will look the same way no matter how the bloodlust buff works. But if taking it away makes people cry less then I’ll go with that one.

I think the clarified in twitch that this would only be for PvE (not WvW or sPvP). It includes evey minion any character can have. Basically it’s for big bad bosses who have super high AoE damage and obviously pets don’t evade and dies instantly.

Despite the desparity I am enjoying fight’s against SBI (when I have the chance). They seem more organised than some of the T2 servers and I’ve had good fights vs them. It does suck that the population limits their fighting potential.

Stealth Disruptor Trap

Seeing how a supply trap properly placed could delay a whole zerg from capping an objective, an Stealth trap could take away the veil. Albiet a bit harder to use tactically than a a supply trap that could be used strategically.

Invisible enemies cannot prevent cap.
To cover the whole capping circle , you will need like 10 trap.

I said supply trap, as in a zerg runs in and get hit by a supply trap and lose all their supply, rendering them useless unless they want to sit there and bash their face into thegate.

No, just transfer to the winning server.

Cause in T1 when ZvZ we just /bow and walk away. No one actuall dies. People die all the time in WvW, how you deal with it is based on zervers mentality and morale.

You’ll notice T1 servers will keep on fighting over and over even if they keep dying over and over. But I guess words speaks louder than action in today’s world.

Roaming Mastery?

All of those minus the 75pt would also be great for WvW zergs. A static 25% move speed buff would great help a zerg move together not to mention remove the need for some people to take up a trait slot or utility slot. The -HP when downed is also great in zergs as well (unless you are stomping for points) but ether way it would greatly help zerg kill downed players.

Lastly before more suggestions come up, I would like to point out the fact that a lot of people are complaining about power creep in WvW. I’m not sure about you but generally speaking power creep affects roamers/small man groups much more than ZvZ.

Uhm? It just sounds like a giant arena.

It won’t be GvG until you:

  • Add Guild Halls
  • Add Several GvG Maps (not one large area)
  • Add a Guild Ladder

Anet please model after the GvG Basics Guide and give us real GvG again.

They give you an inch and you try to take a mile. Give it time, maybe they will. Until then enjoy what’s been given.

Warrior build advice - All around build

I don’t think you should go with 1 build for all idea. Ascended is going to be lucrative, but I would still keep multiple sets for the different occasions.

I mean if your PvE dungeon and FoTM can be combined then that’s great, but if you can do better vs Teq/world bosses on a different build/gear then use that one even if it means you are going to “down grade” to exotic. Same with WvW, I’m not sure why people are so kitten about needing to have Ascended to be good. Sure it’ll help you clear dungeons and such faster, but that’s assuming you have the proper build not some watered down jack-of-all build.

I support this, if T1 and T2 is going to be part of a leauge it would be really nice to see T2 servers filled to have more coverage and then work towards having better server coordinations to play on even groups with the T1 servers.

From what I notice on SoR.
Generally there isn’t a pressure to WvW even on active nights, most of our commanders might make a gripe, but they understand there is more to to GW2 than WvW. I tink SoR discourage over-coverage of time zones (AKA don’t play too late into OCX time if you are a NA player). While it’s great to try and have as much participation as possible, it’s better to not burn your players out, dispite a lot of bragging about how much someone plays WvW exclusively, I believe that population is in a huge minority and those players can keep the fort down.
