I can only speak from my anecdotical experience, but I usually see 1 duo and 3 solos per team, on both sides. Exceptions to the rule happen, but the matchmaker already tries to distribute duos evenly. So this makes your “advantage” argument moot.

So which one is an “exceptionally strong” class? I cannot think of one. There are classes that are a bit easier to pick up and to play solo in uncoordinated teams (DH, warrior). But even those have their counters.

So an the one hand you do not want DuoQ, which allows the classes that are weaker in pure SoloQ and depend more on team composition (Necro, Ele…). And on the other hand you don’t want the strong solo classes to stack?

This is a contradiction no matchmaker can solve. In the end, the algorithm has to work with the classes that people actually queue with.

Why did they remove swapping characters?

I don’t think mid-game swapping was ever intended. They had even locked the ability to change your build (on the same chararacter) during match since forever, so why should it have been intended to swap classes? It was simply a loophole that some players used and I am glad that it is fixed. Counter-comping should not be a thing, making a decent comp on your own team should. There is time before the match starts to do so.

Opinion on Season 6

Kir Sakar.3647

The only good thing about this season is that it started off with a requirement of a minimum # of games played to be on the leaderboard

  1. and #2 on EU is a duoq who only plays together with 20 matches and 20 wins atm, what a joke

How is this a joke? Oh I forgot, youd easily rek them if theyd soloqueue

Its a joke because you are at a advantage duoq and they prolly queueing at offtime for easy matches. So much of a leaderboard when u have duoqeuers playing daily matches to prevent decay to stay top of leaderboard. Why even have a leaderboard when soloq and duoq gets matched together.

do you even know anything about pvp? #1 and #2 are misha and sindrener.. they are the best players in the game, ofc they are 20/0.. why do you accuse someone of playing offtime because they are higher palced than you are? what the actual hell

Plus, these guys are streaming their matches… so you can easily proof that they do queue at EU prime time. Not sure if you are deliberatly spreading false information or just never heard of the concept of time-zones?

This casual here disagrees. I will probably play a similar amount of matches this season than the last, if my time allows for it.

I appreciate that the relogging/mid-match character change issue was fixed and the stricter decay system. I believe DuoQ is healthy for the game, expecially for newer and more causual PvPers. And why do you believe class-stacking is a problem? If I see more than one DH on the enemy team, I will not play memser but a class that helps my team to deal with them, like support Ele. Problem solved.

My character: Vortex Catalyst
Race: Human
Character Type: Guardian
Problem: Character renders in-game with green skin and green hair instead of looking normal.

The first picture I’ve attached in what she looks like on the character selection panel. The second is how she looks in-game. None of my other 7 characters have this problem, and all other human characters in-game render with normal colored skin. Her skin color in-game during daylight does NOT change—it remains green.

I just found the “issue” with my character (see updated post above)… do you have this item in your trinkets by any chance? https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Poly-luminescent_Undulating_Refractor_

My opinion is that the best is 1-2 soloq league system + 5v5 “EVENTS”

Fully agree with that, in my opinion this is the best solution for all the reasons you mentioned. It would be nice to have a competetive outlet for teams, and automated tournaments on weekends (when it is most likely all friends/guildies are online to form a team) would be great for that.

This also would not impact population and matchmaking on solo/duoQ too much, since there are probably still enough players for a healthy solo/duoQ at prime time even if a share of players q as teams.

Chill, you realize that a new LS episode came out? And a new raid? I can only speak for myself: As much as I enjoy PvP, I also like the other game modes. After playing conquest for two months straight, a little PvE and some WvW are a nice change.

I am pretty sure a lot of players of all Divisions feel the similar, at least I see a lot of platinum and even legendary badges in this new content. They will be back.

Thanks for the explaination Evan. And I agree that it is good to do a poll on this, since so many people seem to dislike class stacking.

They could at least try and see how the queues explode if it even does. You know most people just chase what they think is most powerful thats why we see so much stacking to begin with. They could also look at trying to ban duplicate builds/amulets instead of classes. There is plenty of things they could try. I don’t understand the fear of experimentation. They could hot fix stuff in a day if it was that bad if they wanted to. Stop making excuses for them. Lots of people want fairly rigid class rules against duplication in the matchmaking why in the world couldn’t we try it and see what happens?

I voted “No” but not because I play the stacking classes myself (I play neither DH nor warrior). I just don’t see stacked classes as a major issue (even in Silver many players swap when two thieves are on one team). It just seems more important to me to be able to influence team composition to the better as a player. Also, as some already said, with the build-variaty on each class it seems hard to imagine how an algorithm can set up “ideal” team comps.

But I agree that if the majority of players votes for “Yes” that it will be interesting to try and see how it goes.

Do I get it correcty that with the “YES” option, there is no way for me as a player to adapt to team composition? Say, i see we have DPS with no sustain before the match starts, there is no way for me to swap to support, even if this swap would not cause class stacking?

Then I find it a bad idea, it takes away an important aspect of the game and makes Solo/DuoQ even more a lottery because class is not identical with role.

EDIT: Thumps up though for disabeling class swap during the match. It was weird that this was possible, considering that you can’t even change your traits/weapons once the match started.

EDIT2: I agree with Rickster about the red herring.

EDIT 2: Never mind this post, I just found out that this apperently is not a bug, but an intended “black aura” effect from this jewel in my character’s exotic amulet: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Poly-luminescent_Undulating_Refractor_ I would never have found that out if I had not researched on the jewel after wondering why the hell it sells for whooping 60 gold at the TP. No idea why anyone would like this, but I sure take the 60 gold…

Not sure if this fits but my character suddenly went dark. I’ve tried changing settings but nothing seems to work. Is anyone else having this problem or am I just special? I’ve submitted tickets but nothing seems to change

Has your problem been solved? It looks like I am having the same issue for a while now. It’s only with one of my characters and only on open world maps and WvW maps. In the PvP lobby and maps, she looks normal. I never saw this with my other characters (Charrs, Sylvari, Norn).

Race: Asura
Gender: Female
Class: Elementalist/Tempest

Problem: Lighting of character seems off on certain maps (open world PvE and WvW). The entire character model is very dark even in broad daylight.

Screenshots from left to right: In Lions Arch (in daylight, but character dark), in the PvP lobby (a minute later, but lighting is okay here) and in the hero panel.

EDIT: She does also look black for other players, at least one of my guildies sees it consistently when we play together.

I agree with Buran and Dinster. People here call for removal of class stacking all the time, but in my opinion, a very interesting apect of the game would get lost then.

First, same class != same role, since you can have different builds on the same class (Staff vs D/P thief, Auromancer vs FA ele, condi vs power war…). How should the algorithm account for that? Secondly, its a skill to be able to adapt to your team composition, by, for example, rerolling a support when your team lacks it. Its a strategic asset that makes the game more interesting.

And I say that as a low-tier Mesmer main, I am a prime target for all those stacked DH. But I rather learn and play more classes that fare better against DH than have the matchmaking restricting everyone’s gameplay in such a way.

Duo Q MUST GO for Season 6

in PvP

Posted by: Kir Sakar.3647

Kir Sakar.3647

Disagree with OP. Of course pure soloQ would be the only completely fair setup in a system that ranks individual players. Premades on the other hand only make sense in a ranking that ranks teams. That is why a seperate team/soloQ would also not be fair within the individual ranking system, even if the population allowed for seperate queues. Full-premade teams should compete in a pure team competition, such as automated tournaments with seperate rewards/titles.

That being said, I think the current soloQ/duoQ system is a good compromise for keeping PvP somewhat social and to provide a starting point for coordinated play. Also, a pure soloQ would favor certain classes that work well without much team coordination (DH, warrior) even more than now, especially at lower tiers.

As for the disadvatage in match making/rating gain/loss as a duo as opposed to solo: I thought the algorithm was already taking care of that?

Hi Kitty Kitty Meowmew,

Is the best Charr Mesmer willing to help the worst Charr Mesmer in the game? I am a terrible noob in GW2, in PvP and in gaming in general. This is my first ranked season. However I really enjoy the game mode and would like to improve.

Even though I have played the majority of my PvP games on mesmer, I only managed to climb out of Bronze (currently in low/mid silver) by switching to support ele after a few weeks into the season, so this gives you an idea of my “skill” level on Mesmer.

I play the meta condi Chrono build. To give a concrete example, let’s say we are on Foefire (I seem to particularly suck on this map). My team has Necro, Guard, Ranger, Warrior and Mesmer (me), the opposing team has Thief, Necro, Ele, Guard and Ranger.

Three problems will occur, causing me to bring my team into disadvantage (and potentially a loss):

1) I cap close (say at the start of the match). Enemy thief pushes into me, stealthed. I know that I should technically be able to beat the thief 1v1 on mes but more often than not, I lose. They just burst me down in seconds, either interrupting crucial defensive skills like shield 4 or by running their unblockable skill. If I pop distortion instantly I can buy some time, but if they stealth again I am just lost on how/where to defend myself against the next burst. Kiting is my survive tactic against other classes (I have less problems 1v1 against warriors for example) but that does not work so well with thieves, they are always more mobile. Do you have any specific advice how to successfully defend a node against a thief, what skills to watch out for and how to defend against their surprise burst?

2) We have close and my team is fighting mid 3v4 because either one of us died or one of us is pushing far (the war). They are pressured so I go mid. One of my teammates (the Necro) just went down. I try to go for the rez, but even if I get it, I have to blow all my defensive cooldowns in 10 seconds to survive the enemy’s DH, Ranger (longbow) and necros damage. How do I make a good impact on a teamfight on Foefire in that situation? Either I manage to survive by kiting and do little damage/support, or I do damage/stomp one player and then die after getting pulled into a DH trap with no defenses left. Or was it wrong of me to go to mid in the first place?

3) We won mid, but close is getting pushed by 2 enemy players and we have only our Necro coming from respawn. On my way from mid to close, I will be attacked by the enemy ranger’s longbow and smokeskale, so I have to use my defensive skills again. Then their thief will surpise-attack me and down me, causing us to lose close cap (and me and the Necro dying) in a 1v2. Again, the problem is that I am the most mobile class of our team so I understand that it’s my job to rotate fast to where I am needed, but their thief will just be faster and wreck me.

Thanks in advance!

My Proposed Buffs To Warhorn

And with that message, I feel like people don’t give warhorn a chance. I’m one of the very lucky few who stuck with the weapon because the mechanics felt interesting, and now I’ve developed a unique situational feel with it. I love it! Unfortunately this means I can’t play focus anymore since my twitch reactions / rotations are all screwed up.

Noob here, it’s my first ranked season and I just got into support ele mid-season because I like the support role as an alternative to my main class when my team lacks support.

I picked warhorn over focus because I knew the skills from playing D/Wh Ele a bit in PvE and liked the playstyle when combined with dagger (the moving water field with water 3 for example, which you can just let travel as an AOE heal through your allies without actually eating all the melee cleave). And I was encouraged by your posts about warhorn here. Now I only play in Bronze 3 (EU) and don’t have the problem of getting focused too much in teamfights. I may give focus a try when I start dying too often when reaching a higher level.

So far I like warhorn very much and I feel that it does an excellent job at team support, especially against ranged professions with projectiles like Druids and DHs.

So please keep posting the warhorn tipps!

“A lot of the strategy employed in season play isn’t what you see in unranked,” what stratagem would those be? The limit on number queuing together has nothing to do with that.

I have the same experience as Bardly. Because in unranked there is no real competition (no incentive to push for win), a lot of people just have fun there or try new builds and classes, which is perfectly fine in my opinion. But real rotations or organized play rarely happen there.

Another big problem is that because beta-maps and other maps are tested in unranked, I have played ~75% of my matches on Coloseum and Capricorn. Since knowledge of the map and the terrain are so crucial for tactics and kiting, I would never get enough practice on the “serious” maps if I stay in unranked. There is nothing you can do about it. For some reason people love the Coloseum above all and it gets picked all the time.

Kir Sakar.3647

Agreed, I will contribute more thoughts from the bottom. Disclaimer: I am not only a noob in GW2 and PvP, but a noob in gaming in general. And I am well into my adulthood. It is implicit that I am a terribad player, technically, stragically, awareness-wise… and as if that was not enough, I happen to main one of the classes that seems harder to learn in PvP (Mesmer).

Now before you scream “get out of ranked”: I have been playing unranked for 4 months now and there is only so much I can learn from these matches if I want to improve. And because I throughly enjoy the game mode, I want to improve. So this is my first ranked season.

Placement matches put me somewhere in bronze, where I am happily going up and down tiers ever since, having interesting matches that I feel are appropriate for my “skill”-level and that are largely close in points. As opposed to unranked, there are very rarely afk players and I have rarely experienced any type of rage from other players. I often had helpful teammates laying out a strategy or guiding the rest of us if we (I) were disorganized. I am pretty sure that these players climb their way out of bronze because they made an impact on teamplay and made the difference it needed to win. So as far as I can see from the bottom, this system is working. Good communication is key, toxicity on the other hand acheives the exact opposite.

Maybe I am just very lucky or bronze is not a “hell” after all. Are you NA or EU, OP? I am on EU and I am pleasantly suprised how “civilized” my matches are.

(P.S: on point 4) Sure Mes needs a buff, I would suggest a general DH trap immunity for starters :P)
