It was bad enough during raids in WoW, but twice as bad in GW2, the kitten arrow vanishes no matter how much you wiggle it, it is so hard to locate it !!!

Seamless world technology is not new, SWG had it in 2003, all planets had no boundaries other than the required “edge of the world”.

Boundaries and Zones are as much a function of the level based system more than anything else. It allows design of linear, progressive leveling without putting a level 4 at odds with end level mobs. Zones and walls allow ranges of progressive leveled content.

Pre NGE SWG was fun, there were no “safe” zones. You had to keep your wits about you, as very nasty things could appear almost anywhere.

Zones and walls will remain as long as games fixate on traditional levels.

hahahah reminds me of when I first started playing WoW and I took a right turn inseatd of left as a lvl 30ish and walked into Uldum a lvl 75 zone, talk about being roflstomped by a mob!

( then again even walls dont help, I also fell off a mountain as a lvl 17 into Twilight Highlands and couldnt get out as the stupid game wouldnt let me rez any other place so was stuck there until a higher guildie could come cover me)

Whats more immersion breaking than the rectangles is the loading screens on a newer engine than WoW…… More sandbox would be better.

There is a massive number of modern MMO’s that still use zones rather than an open world. WoW is not the most intensive game, it is easier for the engine to render that much at a time. GW2 as it is is not incredibly well optimised, so if they were to remove he boundaries between zones you would see a massive hit in performance.

Or if they were to actually use the Graphics Card instead of the CPU it would work better too………….and not throttle those with higher end PC’s from using the full potential of even the CPU / Ram.

No longer unlocked auto.

Cant get any till lvl 30 +

Get one trait point every 6 lvls, not 30 anymore, now 14 ( I think) 1 every 6 until lvl 66 then 2 every 6 .

Have to unlock them all thru PvE or WvW content or pay with Skill Points and money.

Have to go to Higher lvl areas to unlock even lvl 30 traits ( lvl 50 some of them)

Or need group to unlock ( some locked behind world boss / champs)

On a side note and a suggestion. I think it would be better that groups get better drops. It promotes what Anet wants….group participation.

Wasnt one of the selling points that they raved about that you did NOT have to be in a group, you could just drop in and out to participate or is this another thing they have gone back on ?

You seem to be missing the point. I don’t think I have it… or at least, I hope I don’t. But that doesn’t mean clicking something 5,000 times doesn’t hurt, or that its healthy for your body either. I used carpal tunnel as a very really danger that can result from such activity.

Don’t devalue the issue with specifics, a problem exist that they could improve, so why not do so?

So do something else like bind mouse click to the wheel, or if on linux use Bash or like others have suggested ……

OR if talking about luck ( a thread that comes up like every few days ) use it when you get it ?

I think GW2 has bigger issues like a whole profession with 60% of skills that do not work !!!

I do not mind the rectangles, BUT having streaming loading instead of a loading screen in this day and age would be good, heck if Wow can do it and even many console games like Gears of War nowadays, I am sure a decent PC game like GW2 should be able to preload / stream load the next zone instead of a loading screen when going from adjacent zone to zone.

Replace fall damage traits

You’re right, there’s no dungeon path that I’d use those traits in. But there are times when I’m defending at tower in WvW that those traits were fun to use, and to some degree useful. Just swap them in, jump into a zerg, and make your getaway back through the gate. Great fun actually.

Not many people do this, however. It would be interesting to see if anyone else does.

Kinda how I see it. Fall traits are wvw only. I would say the warrior one is best for gate defending with its knock back. Stops those rams.

Also saves your kitten when doing JP and harder to reach Vista’s in PvE tyvm…

So my husband and I rolled new characters because he wanted to try a new profession, and I wanted to level with him and recapture the fun of it. We had 80s already so we had an instant-20 scroll thing, then a few tome of knowledge for a couple more freebie levels. Bought same level green gear, and set out.

The first thing I noticed about leveling with no traits at the point we were both used to getting them on low characters is how weak you feel. And yes, this is coming from someone with geared 80s, but I’m not comparing a downleveled state of ability, I’m comparing the old leveling process to the new one. I already had one of each profession, so I know what it was like to level them originally, without good gear, but with traits. Now I still don’t have good gear (blues/greens, no special runes/sigils) but no traits.

Ok, so we went off to try and unlock a few. At this point, the easiest are probably the eotm ones, because you can join a karma train and in maybe half an hour to an hour get those three. Obsidian sanctum isn’t too bad either (if you’re ok at jumping puzzles) since even on my server (Blackgate) people generally are in OS to gvg or get their box, they don’t really care about ganking someone else.

But the rest of the traits? I hope you have a small army at your beck and call. Or that you have ample time to sit around and wait for an event to kick off. We tried just getting some of the adept traits, since we’re in our 40s and have that tier opened. Impossible, even with two of us. WHY would adept trait line traits be for boss events in a level 50 zone? WHY?

I don’t want to spend skill points and in game money to buy them. Yeah, I have 80s, but I’m not rich. I’m not sitting on a thousand gold like some, where I can just throw money at it and buy all 13 traits for all 5 trees.

So, tl;dr, it’s not fun. When it’s supposed to be fun to level. You can leave it at an unlock system, but change the location to something more appropriate. You open up the adept tier at 30? So make the adept traits all unlock in a level 30-40 zone. I don’t mind petitioning the zone for help to kill a champ, at least with the megaserver it means there’s always someone else around. But why it’s 20 levels higher than it should be is just mindboggling. Unless the whole point was to expect people to craft/tome their way to 80, buy gear and THEN go back and grind out their traits. At which point, I wonder what you were thinking, because that’s even less fun.

Very disappointed.

Exactly what I was saying, and odd how many pages on a thread that Anet asked for feedback and got tons all basically saying the same, yet nada from them……

Lol I tried requesting an Exchange from Bone Pick to Watchwork, as a newer player I did not think the Watchwork would ever be available again, so jumped at the chance of an endless pick…… Then next week they put the Watchwork one on sale. I feel so bummed as that one has Sprocket chances and as I missed LS1 no chance at the In home node……….

Talk about a huge NO from Anet………. you would think that for customer service reasons ( pity I dont live in NH or the law would have been against them) that they could have just swapped them out……

You can buy the trait too, just visit a mesmer trainer.

If you cba to do Personal Story, map completion or events to get your traits – and you’re too cheap to buy them – well, sucks for you. Personally, I think it just weeds out the people who want a handout from the people who actually care to build their characters.

I’m guessing you were one of those who were grandfathered in?

Four characters were grandfathered in, three characters are undergoing the new trait system. I found absolutely nothing wrong with the new trait system – my mesmer was a bit of a pain but even before the trait changes mesmer was painful in regards to leveling.

I fail to see the point, though. WvW has always been linked to PvE and changing the acquisition of traits in PvE by doing PvE content just makes sense. In PvP they are still given freely, except for the 13th major trait in each line – even to newly created characters. Doing PvE content to unlock PvE versatility just seems like such a no-kitten concept I am surprised anyone actually finds the complaints legitimate.

Nice.. Now look at the lvl reqs to do that PvE content or what it is …… for ADEPT traits !

9 of out the whole lot are lvl appropriate or do not req a large group event or PvP for new players = bad choice

Example being every tues when they patch, many cannot get over 0k because the ANET servers are overloaded, and cannot handle 1) the bandwidth and 2) the server load causing these issues

ANYONE who has played WoW will know that feeling well .. Only Blizzard made the choice not to upgrade their 1990’s tech. I Gave Up On This Game Am I Wrong?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kohlteth.3715

As time goes by, I find myself playing less and less.

It’s just not jaw dropping, and I feel like it was overhyped. Too much promised in the manifesto, not enough delivered.

I just got my 7th toon to 80 the other day, and I’m working on getting all of them into exotics.

I also bought in to Star Citizen two days ago, and while that game has a ways to go – I find myself spending more time on their forums learning about it than I want to log into GW2.

My biggest gripe is with how little there is for exploration. I’m primarily an immersion/exploration player, and while I dabble a little in other things like PvP just for fun, most of all I want explore the game world.

GW2 was promised to be a great game for explorers, but I found this was not really true.

Some of it was – it is certainly very beautiful. The art style is one of the best I’ve ever seen in an MMO.

But Tyria feels tiny. I also really hate the zones – I’d prefer a truly open world with no zone walls/invisible walls. And the whole rectangular zone thing was extremely off putting. It just screams lazy design principles, and does a massive disservice to exploration.

Downleveling is a drag – there’s lots of places, like a champion spider queen somewhere near the Saltflood waypoint in Sparkfly, for example, that I cannot come back to at a higher level – no matter how high a level I get, I can never kill that spider unless I bring a bunch of other people, and I am often just exploring solo.

There’s also just not enough hidden content for explorers to find. I think there ought to be vast – hundreds of square miles worth – of underground structures and complexes hidden all over the world. Massive dungeon complexes underneath Divinity’s Reach, for example.

It just feels like the ‘Open World MMO’ aspect was tacked on to a PvP game, but I hear the PvP aspect isn’t that great either.

I did a little WvWvW and it was ok – as with all large scale PvP in MMO’s, the only problem I have with it is that they still haven’t figured out hot to make it less zergy – but this isn’t a problem that is unique to GW2, it plagues every MMO with PvP, so they kinda get a pass on that. There seems to be a ton of potential in PvP – from the siege weapons (which are really cool) to the destructible forts and bases. But, a lot of this seems to get very little use. Just like in WAR, I’ve noticed that primarily people run around ‘capping’ various objectives to score points, and battles are massive eye sores (graphically, my screen just explodes, and epileptics are sent to the hospital in every major battle) with very little actual tactics involved. Everyone just spams their attacks until one side or the other falls back. The zerg is the least interesting part of PvP, because no one really knows what’s going on, it’s just a spamfest of hitting all your skills and hoping something happens.

Combat is ok in GW2, but again I feel like it was overhyped. I thought it would be more action based, more like an FPS. But we got tab targeting, and substantial CD skills. And ultimately, I don’t like the weapon skill system – it lacks customization. I DO like the fact that we are limited to only 10 skills at any given time, but I wish I could pick and choose exactly which 5 skills were on my weapon bar instead of having to take all the skills associated with a particular weapon. Dual wielding makes this a little better, as you can at least mix and match 3 and 2 of those skills, but 2-hdrs. are worse in this regard, and I’d still rather be able to choose a skill independently for each slot. I don’t care if it’s easier for Anet to balance, or whatever their excuse is, the skill bar grows bland and I want more customization of my loadout.

But, if exploration was more fun, I could even forgive the combat, because at the end of the day it’s not bad – in fact, it’s way better than WoW, and just about every other MMO I’ve played.

If there were more to explore in Tyria I’d probably be hooked – but the draw of exploration quickly dies here.

Also, I found dungeons to be highly disappointing too – primarily because they are extremely linear. Rather than vast complexes with multiple levels and huge areas to explore, they’re really just extended arenas with specific kinds of enemies in them.

Also, I don’t like the forced grouping in dungeons. Again, this comes down to my explorer approach to gaming – I want to delve into dungeons on my own a lot, and I’d like it if dungeons were challenging for solo players, but not next to impossible because of the way mobs are designed, with massive health pools, one shot mechanics, and bad AI’s.

Thank you for echoing my sentiments

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kohlteth.3715

Kohlteth.3715

@Ascimator:

Speaking as someone who has easily dropped (since the start of this game and being one of the many Beta weekend players), I’ve dropped a few hundred dollars on this game for myself and family members in gemcards. Whether they were for some extra cosmetic items from the gemstore, utility items, or expansion slots for one of my many alts, i’ve dropped some serious real life coin for this game. I did this because i felt that for them to continue making quality things for the game that they needed the financial support for it. I love this game. I am a LONG time Guild Wars player and GW2 player. I WANT this gamer to not only succeed, but to thrive in the field of the MMOs out there now and those yet to come out. I’m also usually one of the staunchest defenders of the developers in this game, however this particular update is rediculous.

Some quick points here for you: First, if Anet is trying to tout build diversity and the ability to change your build on the fly for free, it is counter intuitive to argue that they also didn’t mean for people to unlock and get EVERY trait in the game. If they say they are trying to make it so people aren’t beholden to the meta, then it is counter intuitive to build your trait system so people have to study and plan out to make builds that fit the meta. Its perfectly fine if you don’t feel the need to unlock all of the traits and are happy with whatever ones you unlock while playing and then buy 2 or three more for the one (maybe 2) builds you might run, but some of us play PvE and WvW and have a toon fills more than just one or two roles even in one night of play and need a certain amount of build diversity. A new player coming into the game as it is now doesn’t have the breadth of knowledge about builds and traits that I or others might have, and they certainly don’t know enough about the game mechanics to make whatever traits they do stumble upon worthwhile as they level. In many cases that might make them feel like they are running sub-optimal builds just for running around in the world and if they don’t have someone helping them, they might get too drustrated with the game and leave before getting very far. That is money Anet won’t be getting. Second: When a system gates things like traits, which are specific to the abilities of an individual toon, behind events that occur in PvP areas like WvW, or in dungeon completion you will have many players opting to either not do it, or once again get frustrated with the game. For myself, i know i HATE doing dungeons most days. i really have to get myself into the mindset to do one and I didn’t even do my first one until I was level 80. Even then I needed to scrape together people to do it since most LFG people didn’t want me running with them if I didn’t know the dungeon. Now there will be even more people that don’t know the dungeons AND they won’t even have traits to use in said dungeon runs which means fewer people even getting to do the content even if they wanted to do it.

This update hurts the game. Period. I am currently running a small experiment and trying to level a new necro with no access to the money I accrued on my account, or karma, or materials. I’m trying to “re-see” the game as a new player as best as possible and seeing how easy or hard certain things are. There have been some positive things from this experiment, but I’m not level 30 yet, so traits and how they will or won’t affect me has yet to come up. What I do know is that i currently have a level 80 guardian that i leveled under the new system and her traits that I got organically and the ones I just bought for her still leave her feeling grotesquely incomplete. Can she function in PvE? Sure. But she doesn’t “play” they way I’d like her to and for a new player, that can be a turn off. i know for me I’ve stopped buying gem cards for a while now and i’m not the only one.

I think you nailed the exact problem….

Is it a joke?
- At first glance it is a little humorous and you start to chuckle at the absurdity of it.
- Then it really starts to sink in as you visualize it and you start to think…
- “Nah, They wouldn’t do that…would they?”
- Then it hits you that it really isn’t that funny.
- And as your chuckle begins to trail off, you realize that you can actually see this happening.
- Then you find yourself staring at your screen with a single thought pounding in your mind…
- “They might actually do this…”

No, the asure will probably discover a ‘fix’ so that the waypoints can’t be used by the vines anymore. Anet will probable require you to go each seperate waypoint and interact with it to fix it. After your finished fixing the last waypoint Trahearne shows up and take credit for fixing all the waypoints . :/

Seriously, Trahearnes life mission was to purify Orr, if he even dares to step one foot outside of Orr, then lets just say that The next story part will involve me as the villain XD

I was reading your reply with the serious kind of speculation it started out with, and I was like “yeah, well, maybe they will do somethi…” – then you smacked me in the head with a big plate of Trahearne out of nowhere and I burst out laughing!

No way to unlock traits except pve?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kohlteth.3715

Kohlteth.3715

I think most of the people who are angry with the trait change, is becuase it now forces them to actualy do work to unlock their traits. not only is doing some of them a real waste of time (like map comp), but they have to waste even more time looking at all their traits to figure out which ones are worth taking. I recommend looking at the meta builds for your class, it will help you figure out which traits are more useful to have. Most of the events to unlock actualy aren’t that hard, it’s just making sure you have the map explore to them that’s the hard part. some of the low-level events (taidha, modniir etc.) are actually world bosses and you can look at a timer to see when it starts. the ones that are more a waste of time you can just buy them from the trainer (that’s what I did).

…….and for new players that want to try traits out and play thier way like Anet said, not going to happen when only 9 traits in Adept tier are in PvE and in lvl appropriate zones,

( Most are either champs in lvl 50+ zones or need large groups to do ) so for new players, not happening !!

Then again Prequels can be the same … Look at Star Wars Episode IV / V/ VI compared to I/II/III …. Jar Jar Binks, nuff said lol !

I don’t know who you’re talking about, there are no such thing as gungans in Star Wars, and certainly not even a remote chance of a CGI Yoda instead of the Jim Henson puppet.

. . . though in seriousness and not in sarcasm, the Episodes 1-3 of Star Wars prove it’s a questionable idea to go back to your franchise after a lot of time has passed. Also on this list (despite how much I enjoy it) is Doctor Who . . . where the revival has a different feel for it than the classic and your mileage may vary on how that works for you.

Lol well being English, I have to say since BBC Wales took over it got ruined. Heck Daleks do NOT fly !!

Back on topic …… I think they are trying with GW2, but Devs being held back by share holders screaming for more money so limited in what they can do !

Hence why no new skins apart from Gem store ( I still think they should be like AP skins, no transmute stone charge, since you PAID for it already )

Where are the devs?

Game does not reward healers

while there is no trinity and ANet wants to discourage players from taking roles in the game, some events would fail if there wasn’t someone trying to rez all the people that are downed. I, too, have found myself in that situation where I try to participate in an event but so many people are going down I have to rez them or we all fail. Then when the event ends I only get bronze if anything while feeling almost solely responsible for the success of the event. It would be nice to be recognized by the game for this.

I agree that is wrong, and they really need to do something there, I spent most of My time on Claw rezzing and know exactly what you mean !!

Heck OP I play a Mesmer main ( yes I KNOW, I was new and didnt know about mesmers ok, now stop laughing )

and even MY weapons heal me and party,( sigils of water) so you do not need a dedicated healer ( I used to main a healer of every class in WoW btw so know what you mean , but this game does not need a healer or tank !

«I Gave Up On This Game Am I Wrong?»

No, you aren’t.

GW2 will be perfect when take from other games what they have made better and to make the best. This is the secret of Warcraft in this last decade. We need open world, no more square boundaries, no more PvP progress independent from PvE, working and interesting crafting. So copy arenas from WoW, copy contextual sceneries and ambience of challenge from ArcheAge, allow real progression.

At last, we need GW3.

Or better still copy nothing from WoW, many came here to get away from Blizzards PITA game, arenas ruined WoW, and lets leave them there !

WvW and sPvP can stay as they are maybe more maps for WvW and more WP’s but we do not need arenas. This game is not meant to be a PvP only game, as they even stated when they first made it…….

Please do not encourage them to turn this into the nitemare that is now WoW ….

Comparing Sequels to originals never works, I can give you a perfect example of what a difference there can be

You skipped the easy target of Highlander movies for this target? Shame on you. Though I understand if they’d made any Matrix sequels, they could qualify easily.

It is incomprehensible how Anet has said nothing – flat out zilch, nothing, about this yet. The dev post tracker is full of tech tickets resolutions, but .. lack of commentary on a seriously pressing issue, for literal months, over and above and past the time they once kidded to us that they were listening?

I am tired of this. Seriously freaking tired.

Do they ever look in this forum ?

I think, if they would do something like say “kill a champion in the 25-35 zones” for any blue trait, “kill a champion in any 50-60 zone” for any green, and “kill a champion in any 70-80 zone” for yellow traits with us being able to select from a drop-down menu which trait of that level we want, would be perfect. If it were something like this, it would be much more doable, and better all around.

Not bad not bad at all.

or even if they just fixed what you have to do to unlock ADEPT traits instead of being in places that you wont go until way later !

Or never get to unless real lucky ( WvW unlocks)
