Not to mention that the inflated price to BUY the traits is ridiculous, using SP you will need while lvling up and money new players do NOT have ..
This new trait system I feel will alienate new players who want to try builds out and force them into builds off sites rather than “play thier way” due to how you unlock them
Opened 10 this morning and got 10 Dragon Coffers but I did NOT get 10 booster conversions (only 4) and while the update stated the Dragon Coffers are in ADDITION to the normal 4 items you usually get out of BL Chest, There are still only a total of 4 items being generated (or at least only 4 reward boxes are displaying on the dialog) for each open….and a Dragon Coffer is always the 1st one.
That seems to me like one of the items is being REPLACED by the Dragon Coffer (not directly complaining about this other than it is NOT what was claimed in the update notes….unless I read them incorrectly). Also, REALLY like the idea of being able to consolidate my Boosters (to save bank space), but if the item is no longer guaranteed from each and every BL chest, they need to state this directly.
- Is there an issue with the Dragon Coffers now taking the place of one of the normal 4 reward items?
- Are the Booster considation items NOT supose to be in every BL chest (I sure think they were previously….I usually got 10 when I opened 10 chests)?
Same here, only 4 total, and one was that stupid Zaihtaffy that we cant do anything with as the NPC is not in game anymore !!
What a waste of a chest !
I think they need to add more permissions too, like access to Guild valut / Deep cave etc being separate
I like where GW2 is in a lot of ways. It doesn’t feel like WoW Plus like so many other MMOs that just take that formula and try to spin it. It feels more like Ultima Online or Dark Age of Camelot, my MMO roots. There isn’t some nonstop stat inflating gear train to be on, or a constant parade of contrived bosses. When DAoC started to get really low on players I went over to WoW for awhile and raided tier 10 to tier 16. To me it never really felt like an MMORPG. It feels almost more like something along the lines of Candy Crush. Just give you this never ending chain of higher and higher stats to go for without ever actually making you more powerful, then charge you $15 a month to do it plus client and expansion fees. There just isn’t an enjoyable world there, everything is so static and dead. All the development focus is on instanced loot pinatas that barely anyone even seems to like. All the open world content is a 2 hour static quest chain that eventually unlocks a few repeatable fetch quests. GW2 scoffs at all of these concepts like the generation before WoW.
lol.. you really need to stop holding back, and tell us How you REALLY feel about World of Warcraft.
I recently re-activated my account, and am having a pleasant time playing the game. I enjoy that I can solo farm mats for my tradeskills, and don’t have Blizzard’s hands In My Pocket along each and every stage … I Like that what I craft has value to other players. I Like that it doesn’t cost me 11g to make a bag that then sells for 13g on the ah…if at all..since I might get undercut, and then suddenly..there is zero profit.
I Like that in THAT game, while there may be constant Upwardly upgrading gear dropping, the fact remains that before level cap, I don’t need to spend a single dime on gear. It drops off Mobs, or it is provided as a reward for quests.
Now. we can go back and forth about " My game is awesome, and wow sucks." from your end. But that seems childish to me.
You enjoy gw2 as it is, I enjoyed Gw2 as it used to be. Lately… I do not enjoy it as much, and the irony is… i have come to appreciate a Lot of things that WoW does well. At least well for me… things I enjoy are viable in WoW.
I can understand your enjoyment of Gw2. I can understand your desire to play it. What I fail to Understand is why you have to trash another game, or the people that play it. Especially since the free to play aspects of Gw2 are such, that a person can play BOTH.
Which leads me to the LAST thing I appreciate about World of warcraft, that 2 years On GW2 taught me to appreciate.
It’s community.
PS I cut my teeth on EverQuest. Make of that what you will.
you forgot to mention the constant neglect by Blizzard , even denial of the 70% dead servers where PUGing is impossible, the inability to complete “Legendary” quest due to lack of players, constantly taking things out that players enjoy ( in next expac , or should I say “shrink-wrap” culling abilities, no flying, destroying professions )
Yes Gw@ could do with opening the map more, and fixing the stupid trait system but I came from WoW ankitten EVER going back. For years people kept saying there would be a Wow killer, there is, Blizzard have given on on thier own game, final straw was selling insta-90’s ignoring 90% of the content
Back on topic..
Dynamic events rock and not having to group to help others!
Wish that there were not such huge zerg groups though or player attitudes to newer people and grinding so much in gw2 oh and of course the new trait system SUCKS the way you are supposed to unlock them either pricey as hell using SP that new players will need, or having to go to high lvl areas to get lvl 30’s traits ?
(edited by Kohlteth.3715)
Single biggest pita in the game is lack of P2P trading, having to mail items is like WHAT ?
curious how many times you are going to post this
I agree so much, it should ONLY be an option in the guild panel and not as easily gotten to, NOT every time you try to invite someone to party up, so easy to accidentally boot them from the guild !
If not weights would be nice to allow x-type skins, so for example a skin for Light could be applied to medium etc ?
I just came over from WoW a few months ago, and I have to say having played mostly Monk, Lock and Hunter there, that My favourite is Mesmer, totally different from anything Wow had to offer, I tried necro, but could not get into it….. something missing ..
Elemental is a lot of fun and has some great flexibility if new, being able to change on the fly between the 4 “specs” helps a lot !
Be aware if you do go Ranger , it is nothing like hunter from Wow, pets are not active the same way ! ( I made that mistake)
This new trait system is kinda funny. It’s better for actual new players since they don’t get bombarded with all the trait points instantly, and it encourages them to experiment more per bracket. But its worse for any player before this change happened, since we already know which traits we want.
Um, WHAT ?
how does it encourage new players ( like me) when half of the kitten traits I should want to experiment with, at 30ish, are locked behind lvl 50+ content or Dungeons that I cannot realistically do until 80 due to PUG behavior that keeps most <80’s out of them ?
Or PS parts I cannot do due to having to choose 1 of 3 races to help that locks me outta the other 2 ?
I understand where you are coming from, then again, using an example, if someone has been playing from release, and they have not created a new “toon” since 4/15 update, then their opinion on Traits would be skewed, compared to say someone whom has as the new trait system SUCKS !!!
do you see what I mean ?
Opinions can be subjective and even a new person can notice something that a “vet” can see ..
I do agree however that Conditions etc should mean more as far as bosses go …. would maybe prevent the zerg so much too !
chuckles seeing another post that starts " I have been playing since launch
Like it makes an opinion worth more than anyone else’s ( maybe a carry over from WoW where every “veteran” has to boast about it )
Although I do like your suggestion !
I love seeing people keep mentioning WoW, I just came from there as Blizzard are killing thier own game, not listening to the playerbase, adding changes that are alienating subscribers by the day, lack of communication , not answering questions on fixing issues that grow bigger by the day ..
The biggest way to kill a MMO, is for the maker to kill it themselves . I have higher hopes for ANet than Blizzard as they do at least seem to want to improve, ala S2…….
Heck even Megaservers are an improvement on what the state of WoW is right now, 70% or more of the servers are dead / comatose and they refuse to even acknoledge it, or merge like GW2 have done. so concidering Blizzrd have had 10 yrs and ANet only 2 almost, lets maybe see how it goes, after all we are weeks away from S2 ………
The one thing I think is absolutely ridiculous is this whole unlocking traits thing. Some of the things you have to do are outrageous… and make no sense at all. Autotool Installation, for example, has to be unlocked with a level 70 quest. You get the level for that trait at level 48….
This update ruins the character training experience. You literally have no traits because almost none of them can be locked anywhere near easily. You have to kill the Karka Queen for some traits… how is a new player or someone who doesn’t have a huge group going to ever do that?
The buying prices are also outrageous. All that gold for a single trait?? And what is with the skill point cost? I want to spend my skill points on SKILLS. That’s why they’re called skill points. Not traits.
I feel bad for any new player that has to go through this… they probably won’t get any traits long after they’re level 80.Please reconsider this change. At least make the unlocking system more logical and possible for newer players. And without a doubt lower that rip off cost of these traits -_-
As 1 of those NEW players I could not agree more …….. Ridiculous tasks to unlock Traits I wished to explore, now I cannot ..
Anyone know how many Skill points I will need on way to 80?
I mean how many do I have to save as there has to be a finite number right ? or is there way to get more other than the ones on the maps ?
More of the map unlocked, seems dumb having such a huge map when 70% of it is all blurred out …… More places to explore and them to fix the kitten traits so you do not have to go into higher lvl stuff (lvl 50 ) at lvl 30 to unlock them, or waste Gold and Skill points you will need later on to get them !!
Found it !!
There is a desktop version for those with no smartphone btw, cant remember the name as am at work, but found it the other day, covers all from Battlenet to GW2 / Wildstar etc etc ..
Actually it is, I beleive, mentioned on the wildstar site as a possible solution for people without smartphones
So this is basically -
“ArenaNet you’re incompetent at your job and having said that I offer my services.” Is that close to what this thread is about? Granted you did sugar coat it… but that’s still the heart of your opening post.I’m unhappy with ArenaNet of late, I feel they can do so much better, but I would never suggest such a thing as this. If they wished for the aid of their customers, they would do so. They have the means and could create far more. If you or others want to go beyond what we, as customers, can already do for ArenaNet/NCsoft – then perhaps try applying for employment?
WOW
REALLY???
LOL
Im simply implying they might have alot to do with a limited budget…. GOOD GOD..
I feel for your spouse if you happen to be married… the poor guy (or gal) saying “good moring” and you “what do you mean GOOD MORNING!?!?! are you suggesting something!?? Are you INSINUATING that Im supposed to be GOOD today?? huh?? HUH???”
I Lol’d so hard at this, as I can actually SEE this LOL
??? we already have mobs that are immune to certain conditions, like the fire thingys in the Asura Starting zone that are Immune to fire and as mentioned the Hylek immune to poison to name a few, or am I missing something here ?
Why not let it stay perm, that way it is yet another thing that people can do , instead of being " oh kitten I was away and missed it AGAIN" …….. Why not let it stay then people can CHOOSE if they want to play it and when !
Earn X guild influence
Earn X guild commendations
and for those of us that are in guilds that cannot DO puzzles, like casual guilds or smaller ones ?
Do not force people into Guilds that may not want to be part of super guilds…
and I still think that locking Adept Traits behind lvl 50 content is dumb !!
So is charging such a huge amount to unlock them, totally alienating newer players !
I love what you have come up with for the rest though :-)
I think it is funny how many " This new Trait system sucks" threads there have been and not one Dev response.
Do they even still play their own game to realise that at lvl 30-50ish you can no longer ( unless you have a ton of Gold and skill points that we will need later) get most of the traits you need as they set the unlocks for many of them at lvl 50+ areas ?
How are new people like me, supposed to learn our profs without having the flexibility to try out the traits that are there ?? Why limit unlocking them to higher levels when PUG’s etc will need them, unless of course they only want lvl 80’s doing the lower lvl dungeons ?
I can’t stand Vanity tags either. 9 times out of 10 it’s someone just running around solo not even calling events out in map chat. Commander tags need to be harder to get and not bought with 100g.
having the ability to hide the kitten things when out and about and not interested in seeing them on the map would be good too …..
Exactly this !!
Although I did ask a few days ago ( being new) what there was for 80’s to do as far as PvE lvl 80 content lol.
As there does only seem to be 1 zone for 80’s .
I agree totally about the new talents sucking, having to be lvl 50+ to get some of the lvl 30 traits you want unlocked, it does not seem to be “play it your way” but morelike " play it your way BUT only how we say you may play" unless you pay lost of gems to convert to gold and use skill points you will need later to unlock stuff you need / want now from a trainer as we messed up how to unlock the traits for you .
Would be good to see some of that HUGE map we see in game unlocked and explorable even if you have to be lvl 80 to do it. seems a bit dumb having such a huge map that is 80% smudged out and unexplorable after nearly 2 yrs still…….
Having access to LS1 would be good as a newer person, as would be good to be able to see / play what is in all the videos advertising GW2… Unlike another MMO ( WoW) that take crap out and it is never seen again, yet leave remnants that are broken for new players and stories that make so sense ……
Hence why moving to GW2 in the first place !
The advantage in Guild Wars 2 is the leveling curve from 1-80 is the smoothest and easiest to get out of any MMO. Enjoy the journey. You will be level 80 before you know it.
Also there is nothing to say that the new zones will not be only for level 80. They could add lower level open world content but have the story be for 80 only.
A bit reason why they are only having the story be level 80 is due to how it falls in the timeline. The Living world takes place after your personal story. If you do not play your personal story the living world may not make sense in the future.
I agree that it should be 80+ I am just curious why they made the map so big when only a very small part of it is even accessible and how after almost 2 yrs it is still 70-80% smudged out. I just hope that more of it gets uncovered, as my avatars love " exploring" not into PvP and WvW not really appealing. But overall loving GW2 compared to that other MMO
My topic was closed. Not even moved. Thanks mods.
This is greed. Log in, or pay. Vs a sub based game where you pay 50 cents a day for a month(15 dollars a month) and get all content ever released. I can log into WoW right now and go do Baradin Hold dallies from 2 years ago.
Not turning this into sub vs free game argument. But I do think its crap that arenanet made the conscious decision to place this content behind gems(even if its 200), instead of making it free like they said it always would be.
I haven’t logged in to play for weeks, I dont plan on it for another few months. When I return, if I ever return(cuz Wildstar is awsome), I’ll be so far behind that I’ll need to dish out the $$. Or, I have to remember every other week to log in. Like a freakin’ chore.
I find it amusing that you mention chores and in the same post quote dailies in Baradin Hold …………….from a game where there is no fluid story, you “time jump” so many times and nothing makes sense anymore and where you already know who is going to win , then still have to go do the story even tho it makes no sense and where the Devs are killing their own game !
From the first paragraph of The Story Journal subheading:
Characters under level 80 will be able to see the available episodes, but will not be able to play them until they reach level 80.Does this little tidbit bother anyone?
On the positive side, I’m cautiously in favor of the concept of the Story Journal. (Cautiously, because we’ve seen how good concepts can go horribly wrong.) I like the idea of being able to access Story content even if I wasn’t able to play at the time it was new. I don’t even mind the 200 gems much. The company should be able to see a modest profit for their work, IMO. Good content will be unlocked by more people and Anet will be able to see what percentage of players are willing to pay for it.
On the negative side, I haven’t seen one person in this thread mention this giant push to be L80. This game wasn’t supposed to be all about the endgame! What happened to the journey? Why should I bother with another alt, ever? Everything they’re building is for 80s. The new trait system is kitten-burgers for alts and noobs. Now alts and noobs can’t experience the Story? This is NOT a happy thing.
Exactly this !!
Although I did ask a few days ago ( being new) what there was for 80’s to do as far as PvE lvl 80 content lol.

(edited by Kohlteth.3715)
Thank you so much.
All I am hoping for now is for Anet to decide to let new players have LS1 in the new journal so we can “Catch up” unlike a certain other MMO that sucks at explaining prior lore, hence being in Gw2 now !
As a new player I have to say the new Trait system sucks when the Trait you want at 30-35 you have to be alvl 50 to even get to the area to unlock it !
Or spend a ridiculous amount of Gold and skill points you will need later to get them !!
Ok so I am a newb, I admit it.
I was exploring , opening up the map some last night ( I have a lvl 49) and googled to see more so I knew where to avoid going and BOOM!!
Is there really so little of that HUGE map that you see in game that is actually playable ?
Is there only 1-2 zones for lvl 80’s? ( what do they do if this it true ?)
Why do we have such a huge map on screen when only around 20% of it is actually able to be unlocked / played in ?
and does anyone know if ANet are planning on unlocking any more of it in the future or is this basically it ?
i’ll be the first guy on earth to click the “my account” link on this here lovely website, input my credit card information, and activate the subscription.
I’ll be the first guy to click “uninstall” if they charge a 15$/month to be able to farm gold.
The game as it is now is worth its 50 bucks + some seasonal gems for convenience and cosmetic items, but definitely not a “sub fee” plus “buy gold”.
I agree I just LEFT “That” game because they charged $15 / month and did nada for players with it., do we really want Anet to turn into Blizzard and all it’s faults ?
As a brand new player I would LOVE to be able to play LS1 first to “catch up” with what is going on, as LA before it was destroyed looks great and would love to be able to play up to current, so I am then up to date…
Would love as a new player to be able to jump in for Free and play LS1 so we can catch up, would suck if I had to pay for content that was Free and in my mind, should be included to build the story ( something that WOW Kittened up many years ago and part of why I no longer WoW because they have no clue how to keep a story running straight)
Then again I do not see that happening any more than them rewinding this ludicrous Trait system where I have to be lvl 50, to unlock traits I should have access to at 30.. without having to somehow get a lot of gold and Skill points I will need whil trying to get to 80, without spedning more RT cash buying gems to convert to gold to unlock something that was ( again) free to players before I started !!
Thanks, btw I checked the wiki, does not tell you how to get there lol
Ok complete GW2 noob here (seen the light and left WoW) and google = no help, nor is searching the GW2 forums.
This Festival of 4 winds,
How do I get there please ?
I have searched in LA, no luck……..
Anyone help ?
A home instance, without actually having a home. Do characters live on the street or do they really spend all their time roaming the world?
I like to picture the Charr living on the streets just sleeping anywhere.
Kinda like real cats, they don’t care much where they sleep. :PThey should add some sleeping charr in Black citadel randomly across the map. :P
Norn get drunk and sleep in the snow for example (as seen in some heart quests haha).
But really, if we’re going in such detail, where are the bathrooms?
OMG I so Lol’d at this as before I left WoW there was a 56 page thread on their forums about why there were no bathrooms in WoW ( which devs replied to rather than why the servers are neglected and dead 90%)
Lol I recently came over from WoW, I have to say that game is being killed by it’s own Dev’s . I only hope GW2 dont go the same way..
I do have to say though that the Traits being locked and having to be higher lvl to get the traits you want at 30-50 is dumb…. Unless you want to spend a lot of G that you dont have yet …
Seems to happen every patch day, I think Anet’s servers need upgrading to handle the update demands on patch day !
tl;dr Megaservers have fixed the population problem but have brought many new problems into the game. Why couldnt ANET just allow you to pick a server/overflow? Why are Megaservers the answer? Being clever for the sake of being clever maybe?
This has been bugging me ever since the Feature patch and I hope to once and for all get the answer.
So we knew there were issues with players finding certain maps baron and empty and so ANET decided to try something groundbreaking and possibly never before seen (I havent played enough MMOs to know this). Megaservers were introduced and with them all kinds of issues have sprouted up ranging from issues with guild missions (take for example the fact one person completed guild challenge in the wrong server yesterday meaning the entire guild on the other server didnt get rewarded) to overcrowding at certain events, contested WPs etc etc. You can read other posts for the list of faults.
So the main issue was that of baron maps. What do megaservers do that allowing people to pick instances cannot do?
This would solve the world boss issues once and for all. This wouldntve caused the issues with guild missions, contested WPs, overcrowding(zerging) and wouldve allowed players to play how they want to play. Pick a highly populated server or a baron one depending on your preferences. I cant help by wonder what the new maps are going to be like when released, with players zerging from one objective to another paying no attention to the story that is unfolding.
ANET seems insistent on turning GW2 into a mindless zergfest with no immersion and im not sure why considering theyre basing the entire games future on the Living Story.
Dude you have obviously NEVER played WoW on one of Blizzard’s TOTALLY dead servers, a huge reason why so many left WoW and came to GW2, playing on a quiet server may seem like a good idea, until it turns into totally dead one !
Do not encourage Anet to go back please., there is nothing worse than an empty server, take it from someone whom knows :-(
I know what you did!
I too had a toon parked in Lions Arch Gate where the Asura portals were before they moved, where now there is just one portal blocked by a gate !!
What you have to do is leave and go south, follow the road to get to Lion’s Arch proper where they portals are all now !
If you get stuck I am sure there will be a higher level around that may take you there !!
( btw anyone know where that gated Asura Gate goes that is blocked off ? )
Same problem here, stuck , max I got was 130k then it stops
