The most likely answer is the lsd theory. To test it, try any name that doesn’t use known words but does have ‘lsd’ somewhere in it.
Not a bad idea, but often they’re too far away for the name to be up.
This is mainly a question for Anet, but feel free to weigh in if you have more than a hunch.
Occasionally I will see a teleport hacker farming a node, but I don’t catch the name before they are gone. Are your log parsing tools robust enough that I can submit a ticket saying “Just saw a female human teleport hacking at the node near me” and you can track it down, or is it a waste of time without a name?
As a couple people have pointed out, the primary inspiration for sylvari names is gaelic, Ree Soesbee even said as much in one of her interviews somewhere that I read. If you intend to keep to that theme at this point you need to be a bit creative. Just 1 month after release I tried a large number of gaelic names that I googled up, and none of them were available. I ended up taking one I liked the most, then just adding a couple of letters and switching a couple others.
They need to be even BIGGER!
Sadly, they were. Got nerfed in the last BWE. Plenty of people complained, but I guess it wasn’t enough. For some bizarre reason, there were people that wanted them smaller.
I’m happy with the body types overall, though I wish there was a muscular skin version of the largest form.
Faces I agree are a little on the barbie-doll side. With a little work at the sliders you can make a look that is still attractive but not so supermodely (it’s a word, cuz I say so). I’d post mine, but I’m at work.
Siv Ironshaper.
My only problem with male norn is their awkward running animation. I think it’s the way the shoulders hunch mostly. Otherwise I like their look. My two norn are female largely because of this.
I’ve used the Viking Answer Lady often myself:
Should be easy enough to test. Summon a clone on a dummy, and don’t do anything else. If it goes more than a minute without triggering, it’s safe to say illusions don’t trigger it.
we have no place else to go
This.
I always thought it was “silly” to be a fan of a company, after all the ultimate goal of a business is making money (and this is not a bad a thing). But Anet’s manifesto made me a believer, sadly (thankfully?) it was a short live fandom. I’ll still play just like I still play other games that I own. I’m just not a “fan” anymore.
I know I’m a bit late to the thread, but I had to chime in and state that you summed up my feelings perfectly.
Like you, I’ll keep playing, but the magic is gone. What had once seemed like a likely home for a good long time now just feels like another stop on the gaming trail of life.
Hello, I’d like to…
“Citizens — coming soon…”
Err, I just wanted to comment on…
“Citizens — coming soon…”
Quiet you! I think that special npc emotes…
“Citizens — coming soon…”
Oh for kitten’s sake, pardon me for a moment…
“Citizens — coming… hey, wait, no not the face!” whack
Ok, now that that’s taken care of…
Please change the coding for special npcs (such as our now unconscious friend, Subdirector Blingg) with area emotes to not trigger every 3 seconds. I don’t know if it is triggered by a player approching, or interacting with them, or what, but I don’t need to see their lines repeated back-to-back or even restarting over themselves.
Funny how people seem to complain about a small stat increase on a armor slot.
Considering this game has no damage meter or anything to really see the difference in the different stats.
Strawman argument.
If what you say is true, that the lack of damage meters means we shouldn’t be against the stat increase, then it also follows that nobody should be for it. Yet here we are.
The ‘MMO Manifesto’ is looking more like an ’MMO Rough Guideline".
Let’s be clear, a Manifesto is merely a declaration of intentions, motives and perspectives by the author…. not a binding contract that locks them into a set of conditions.
While I don’t think this is necessarily the best solution for Anet, let’s recognize that they have total freedom in terms of deciding how they wish to move the game forward…. Total freedom doesn’t mean that all possible decisions they can make are good ones, there are still consequences and this decision might not shake out they way they want it to.
Sure, it isn’t a binding contract. But they made bold claims that attracted many people to the game, even those (like myself) with no prior experience with the franchise. Like it or not, this change is a in stark contrast to what was seen as a core philosophy of the design team. That is going to leave a bad taste in a lot of peoples’ mouths (as can be seen already).
Will I stop playing? Probably not. But GW2 certainly is feeling a lot less like a new MMO home for me, and just another one-night-stand.

Haven’t ready the whole thread, just putting in my .o5.
This has the potential to be an unmitigated disaster, and I sincerely hope the devs are paying attention to player feedback here and elsewhere.
GW2 was supposed to be a non-geargrind game. This is making it feel like anything but.
Stick by your original claims and intentions, or lose fans.
GS as implemented is the epitome of deception. A giant two-handed weapon that is almost entirely ranged. Can’t think of a better way to highlight the nature of a mesmer.
I love the female norn voice just as it is, it fits perfectly.
Women with husky voices are schmexy.
Had this problem since the forums were released. Using the latest Firefox on two different machines, one XP, one Windows 7. After posting in a thread, the back button fails to actually go back 99% of the time. It also seems to happen sometimes after following a link in a thread.
Edit: Also happens often after clicking on the link to the next page of a thread, i.e. the “2” at the bottom of a thread.

I chose infinity ball as well and really enjoyed it. To be fair I haven’t tried the others, so I don’t have a basis for comparison.
GW 1 tells some great stories and is a solid game on it’s own merits. I’d throw out two things that are a turnoff for many:
1. No z-axis movement, including jumping.
2. Very much on rails, both story-wise and when traversing the maps. The maps are better in the expansions, but you still feel it at times.
I purchased the complete pack about a year ago due to interest in GW2, and I’m glad I did. Lots of good lore and story there, even if many aspects of gameplay are a bit dated.
I can’t even get this new control to work…
clicking the arrows do not work.. the little hand with the arrows doesn’t seem to do anything… I can’t enter anything manually…. trying to get this thing to work is just pissin me off…
I hate It!!!
You click the arrow icon then drag the mouse up or down. It’s just clunky, and not as precise as the arrows. It was fine before, click arrows for small precise amounts, type in the box for large amounts. It’s the drag part that is offputing.
Haven’t played much for the last month, and just did some crafting for the first time in ages. Not sure when they changed, but the new controls for changing how many of a given crafting component you create are very clunky. Do not like one bit, please bring back the old.
I think this is a wonderful idea. They’d have to have it as a toggle in settings though to keep from pissing off people that don’t want it.
Hopefully the fix will apply to all open world gadgets as well, as there are many that require you to constantly move around to be hit.
Mine copper with Orichalcum pick, have chance for Orichalcum, etc...

I would prefer since the orichalcum pick is tougher than the copper vein, it does not break on use, or has less chance of breaking. So the higher the pick, the more you can mine lower mats before having to buy a new one. I think something like that could be better.
I could get behind this. Extending it to all gathering at all levels, for each “level” your pick/axe/sickle is above what you are harvesting, you get a 10% chance to not expend a charge.
Why are we allowed to cut down ancient wood? I believe in the right of this ancient trees to not be butchered by the wood industry.
We need to protest in front of this ancient trees to stop this! Who is with me!
You’re improving the longevity of the trees by weeding out the weaklings. If you’re ancient and still only a sapling, you are not doing your part in the world of trees. Make room for faster growing trees that know what they’re doing.
Agreed and plussed (it’s a word cuz I say so). It’s very clunky to have to open your inventory to activate items.
I think they need to change it so that each person’s burning stacks in duration for themselves, but everybody’s burn ticks at the same time. As it stands, having more than one person with a strong focus on burning is a detriment in a group. I haven’t actually tried it myself, but I’m fairly certain that my guardian could maintain close to 100% uptime on burning just by himself if I chose that route.
Yes, this would be an overall increase to damage for groups that make even moderate use of burning, and I would have no problem with enemies having their health buffed slightly to compensate.
I think the damage itself is fine, and I like that they differentiated burning from bleeding via the different stacking mechanics, I just think it’s a shame that having more than one person heavily using burning is a waste.

And now I’ve rolled my first sylvari, only level 4 so far, and already have run into several cases where a line in the middle of a cutscene has no voiceover, very immersion breaking.
I’ve encountered several lines of missing voiceover dialogue in the low level charr storylines “Sins of the Father” and “Graveyard Ornaments”. As much as I love the game, and find most of the complaining you hear to be pedantic at best, it’s pretty unacceptable to have storyline content that isn’t polished, especially the low level stuff.
Blood fiend is a pretty terrible choice, even for a MM. If you keep it out full-time, there’s a good chance it will die and be on cooldown when you truly need the big heal, and the passive healing is mediocre at best (and that’s being generous). If you decide to not have him summoned until you need the healing, then half the utility of the skill is wasted.
I took well of blood for PvE and haven’t looked back; it’s solid healing for yourself, plus support healing for your pets and other players.
Supposedly it did count as “being on fire” at some point in beta. I never got to the point of having the trait myself to test it out. Presumably the devs felt it was too powerful so they changed it. Unfortunate really, seems like a nice synergy and interesting mechanic.
Same thing, using Firefox. Seems to be primarily when you reply to a post.
I’d love to see gathering nodes for cloth fibers implemented, and in fact suggested it more than once during beta, as did others. I doubt we’d see such a change implemented post release however, which is a shame.
A truly worthless trait without any merit whatsoever. They don’t live long enough to be of use. The health degen needs to be halved at least, and the cooldown should be removed/lessened.

I chose to help the Quaggan, and did so without issue, but when I returned to the Vigil for my next assignment (being sent to Lion’s Arch), there was a Skritt in the room thanking me for helping his village.
