The new interface is ok, I just miss being able to see how many achievement points I’ve earned in a specific category (pvp for instance). Although, I didn’t look to hard, and maybe it was just an oversight.
This change is fine. With that said, Warriors now have sufficient enough options to deal with conditions through traits/utilities added through the last few patches. If somebody still feels otherwise, maybe we’ll finally get some attention towards how easy/rewarding it is to apply conditions.
At no point did they say you had to do PvE to get these skins. Heck, thry didn’t even say you need X amount of points to unlock X skin.
For all we know, they could be unique PvP skins awarded with unique achievements, like 1000 tournament kills etc.
Looks like wishful thinking once again. Part of me wanted to agree with you, though.
Its not a problem, i got a suggestion for you.
Dont cluster ?
Most people that play high lvl tpvp and that plays with me dont think aoe is a problem.
All i saw are people crying about game mechanics that are not OP or a problem because they lack the hability and skill to overcome it.
So please stop trying to balance the game when you suck. Cause its ur problem , not the games problem.
Are you new ?
Uhhh,, didn’t you read his post? His team plays in high level play, so, uh, unless you can bring the same credentials your opinion is invalid… yes (just nod here to yourself)? I was pretty sure that AoE facerolling in and around small capture nodes/objectives was getting out of hand (not to mention all the particle/npc spam), but along came the high level player to assure me it’s not. It’s always a L2P issue now go L2P – I know I am going to!
You need to be able to wear armor/weapon skins you earn everywhere in the game; doesn’t matter if I earn it in Spvp, Fractals, crafting, WvW, etc. I’m rank 45, and I would love to just gear out alts (cosmetically) with stuff sitting in my pvp locker. However, it will never happen most likely, because I’m sure Anet thinks they’ll lose money from people that buy the special skins from the store and/or grind RNG chests for both pvp and pve/wvw. That little confirmation that comes up when you convert certain items to pvp tells me they intend to keep it the way it is, and make as much $$$$$$$$$ as they can.
The technology just isn’t there yet
Definitely due to technical limitations. It’s why we can’t have nice things in this game. The array was only defined for X amount, and X has reached max. Sorry, maybe next time!
Man, they’ve really got to stop with the conquest maps already and start instituting some other gametypes into the hotjoin to see how it plays out; let the game spread it’s wings a little bit more to see what we really got here. At least something where AoE facerolling into circles isn’t the meta, and then maybe some builds/classes (hrm, warrior) may be able to compete a little better.
How many posts do we need to see where it states watching/playing conquest is stale…..
The circle is now complete, every class has had its time in the “OP” light.
Except for warriors? Dont tell me 100b + frenzy (before nerf) was op.
It was OP and cheap, but Anet did nothing to compensate for the loss (that was all warriors had).
Agree on class animations. If every class behaved more like warrior (minus all the skills that root, yuck!) the game would have less cheesy builds.
Of all the things that may need nerfed in the current build… I doubt Putrid Mark is deserving to be near the top of the list. Just another I don’t think I like this, so let me go make a nerf thread.
I would like to think the skins are being put in for pvp players, but its more than likely put in for pve players to be able to obtain cool omg skins, and get them to do some spvp. We’ll be able to tell by the value needed; interesting that will be.
I’m just excited at the opportunity to acquire more glory boosters, yeah! Can’t get enough of that glory, oh yea! Gotta get more glory, oh yeah!
Apparently 250+ stacks of glory booster, tiger finishers, and tiger tokens sitting around isn’t enough already.
So, can we expect some type of response as to why this happened seeing it’s a pretty significant change?
Here I’ll start: “We at Anet feel that Thief should be the only class limited to fighting at 900 range because _________”
There just fill in the blank, thanks!
Revealed is fine as it is the players choice whether to take the debuff or not (of course backstab is probably almost always better, but thats not true for all weaponsets). Last refuge is not; it should not be a minor adept trait, and swapped with the appropriate major.
I’m liking 30/30/10/0/0 with rampager amulet, soldier jewel, ele runes, axe/dagger + staff
Spite: 6, 8, 11
Curses: 6, 9, 12
Death: 2
Using Signet of Spite, Spectral Walk, Spectral Wall, and Flesh Golem (could use any elite really).
This is just spvp… haven’t done any tourney yet. The burning with 66% chance to cause bleeds on crits, and many ways to keep weakness up is very nice to say the least.
Yeah, it acts just like Phase Retreat now for Mesmer staff – I actually think it may have been a thoughtful change unlike some other things :P.
The nerf wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t come out of left field, had a trait to at least move the range back, increased the range of at least the autoattack and/or maybe #4… or even pistol, or they could have just left it alone and increased the initiative cost by 1 or even 2. Nope, lets just nerf the only 1200 attack down to 900 – simple and easy for us!
Agreed – they missed the opportunity to add torment to #2.
S/P was always fine in PvE with blind fields, condition removal, aoe frontal damage, 2 ways to stun. Just lost the stun break, but inf. signet fills in just fine (hurts pvp a lot more). At least this has always worked for me on solo play, I don’t play much in dungeons.
I’m sure a DEV will be happy to come here and explain why we’re the only class without a 1200 range attack option now. I can just picture the person coming up with the idea in said meeting and everybody nodding, yeah great idea X – you really thought that one all the way through, and considered the impact it will have across aboard to the Thief class. Excellent work! Do you think we need to compensate anywhere else for said change? No! Excellent response!
I hate being a sarcastic kitten.. but come on!
Uh… Rangers just got SB nerfs to 900 range across the board too, you’re not the only one suffering from this kitten and that is one of our main consistent damage weapons and it was one of our ONLY good weapons in WvW.
Yeah, good thing Ranger doesn’t have any other weapon that hits from 1200+…. you can still effectively AoE and attack siege among other things with longbow… not to mention offhand weapons can be traited to 1200 I believe. Thief has practically nothing now! I’ll just stop here since my sarcastic kitten attitude will only grow with folks making responses like this.

This is one of the “leaked” changes that to me invalidates it (at the very least it’s accuracy). Moving CB to 900 from 1200 makes no sense as every other class has the ability to already hit with damage from 1200+ (even guard has 4 attacks with scepter/staff). This would really cripple a class that already performs pretty low in ZvZ combat in WvW. Unless we’re all supposed to go venom share to really help our groups out….. right :P.
In Spvp it would probably hurt a bit having to move in and not be able to stand on certain ledges for good positioning. It would be just another downside in tpvp point battles. I don’t PVE a lot, but I’m guessing it would hardly be an issue. I think I already stand on 900 range in PvE just to ensure I keep autoattack going and poison field down to spread weakness.

It is merely an opportunity provided to Anet to try and tip the scale from a less negative outlook; that is all. Will they capitalize? I have my doubts sorry to say. For myself – I am going to keep the bar low, and hopefully they’ll exceed my low expectations, so I can be a little less cynical about the past 10+ months of release and open betas.
kuju,
create a trapper ranger, just for fun. (because it was a short time a strong build)
then try to 1vs1 anything and you will see how good this stupid ai is rly.
its rly sad when you whant a wolf fear AT THIS MOMENT, but the wolf is running around and do nothing.
and the dodges get rly important, to do them at the right moment with trapper ranger.same at mesmer, you speak about phantasm mesmer… but its just a 1vs1 build.
shatter mesmer is the tourny build and this one is not so easy to play well.and after doing 250 hotjoins with every class, you will just know the skills of them…
its good to have 1000 tournys with your mainclass,
then its well play with the own class and then you can see what nice combos the class rly can do in each situation vs each other class.everybody who have 1000 tournys with his own class know this rly good.
when you think back, each class is fast to learn,
but to be rly good with it, you need much time to know all situations you can get with your own class and how to handle this situations.in my mind this “most easy to play” topic is fail.
only what is to say:
most easy to play, are classes who dont have so much skills like others
and cant do so much combofinishers like others, because you dont need so much buttons to use…
but when you play long in tpvp you whant a class with more effective skill use to have more controll…
also this classes with not so much skills get hard to play because other classes which have more skills will use them well vs you and you have not so much skills to counter this then…at least its all classes same hard to play…
If the topic had been specs hardest to play, I would have listed specs. I know phantasm mesmer is 1v1 and not as great in tpvp, but the point still stands. Since it was about classes in general I will talk about the classes in general. Yes, shatter is harder to play, but still gets plenty of damage off the AI (you aren’t going to shatter before your duelist gets off a round of damage, that would be inefficient). I’ve played a trap ranger, and sometimes that happens, but its still not that hard to play… especially in conquest – the traps fill the kitten circles for the most part. Even off point they have a large enough radius that can you kite through them pretty easily.
I don’t think any of the classes are hard to play, and having more or less skills is not what I base it off of. It’s just easier to be effective with certain classes vs others.
I’ve played all the classes now in at least 250 games or so each, and I would base my list on which are the hardest—-> easiest to play well on a constant basis throughout a match:
1. Necro/Warrior
2. Engineer
3. Thief
4. Ele/Guard
5. Mesmer
6. Ranger
Just my opinion. Ranger is just wayyyy to easy to be effective with… AI damage and shortbow 1 spam alone can dent somebody’s HP (sadly). If I were to recommend a class for somebody to start out playing in order to get a feel for the game it would be Ranger or a phantasm Memser; AI does enough damage for you to sit back and learn to dodge, positioning, time stun breaks, CC etc.
I won’t deny my blatant bias against classes that can build around huge AI damage, but it’s more than infuriating at times to watch.
(edited by Kuju.2153)
I’ve posted this in other threads before, but there needs to be an option to wear the skins we earn in spvp out in PVE/WvW; whether that is a simple click option in the character screen like wardrobe or transmuting. I’d like nothing better than to be able to level an alt to 80 and just craft/buy what I need for stats and then not have to worry about looking like a hobo since I can just use the skins I’ve already earned in Spvp… which takes longer in most cases to earn anyhow (pretty much any armor earned from rank 30+)
I’ll always be of the opinion that if you are going to have AI as part of a class mechanic then it needs to be about utility (player controlled as much as possible), and not passive mindless damage; ranger pets and memser phantasms are the most obvious here with both capable of hitting for 4-5k+ while the player runs around. Since what we have is the latter, Anet can’t just go about nerfing the specs and say job well done without totally breaking a class (PVE plays a part here too remember).
So, we’ll see what happens. I can’t play those specs, even though they are low risk and high reward 1v1. You may not win every fight, but you won’t have to try hard unless you are fighting a good player. Of course the argument is that they are only strong 1v1 and not in tspvp, but it just won’t fly if the game is supposed to grow… that is just reality.
There are a couple quick things off the top of my head that could be done to help give incentive to pvp:
1. Allow us to use the skins we get in Spvp out in PvE and WvW (a toggle to just turn the skins on… or transmute somehow from our pvp locker). This is a biggie and I’m kind of surprised its not in the game. It just makes sense to be able to take what you’ve earned in a part of the game and carry it with you. It’s just the skins for crying out loud, and most of the good ones take far longer to get in terms of required time played (v.s. PvE/WvW).
2. Ranks should be gained faster (spread out) to feel like you can actually work towards something. I know in the 40’s bracket its a long time between ranks. I believe this has been mentioned in a previous blog.
Also, the chests you get when you gain a rank should be significant. As it stands now they are stupidly bad and pitiful. I just hit 45 a day or two ago and I got a booster, a tiger banner, and 1 piece of lame boots or something…. really? Its 45k to gain a rank 39-49. Think about it.
3. Need something more to do with the salvaged items, boosters, finishers, etc. Right now I have over 250 orbs (can’t get enough), 150 crystals, 250+ tiger tokens, 250+ boosters etc. I might just start destroying these or creating an alt just to store them on….. that’s not a good thing.
Also, its been mentioned before, and it would be nice to have an easier way to salvage rather than have to click 3-4 times to salvage one item over and over.

I love seeing people throw the word unacceptable around so loosely on a game forum…. I mean come on, at least put some thought behind it if it is truly unacceptable. What does that really mean in this case by that way? It’s been known what the limits are in WvW for quite some time, and today is reset today. So, you get angry, refuse to think about the true cause of the problem, and come to the forum to throw a word around to get as much attention as you can… got it.
I’ll just say I can’t stand the amount of crap that autofaces and/or hits when there are plenty of skills in the game that don’t….. mindless stuff.
The only reason AoE feels like such is because we have one game mode to work off of, and it just so happens to be the one game mode where AoE probably plays one of if not it’s biggest role. Team needs to have at least 1 player standing on the point and then you can just lay down your AoE without much thought (I’ll either hit him or move them off the point = win/win). This is especially a problem on points with a smaller cap radius. If/when we get more gametypes this would change and wouldn’t be as much of a problem. Seeing as thats not going to be happening deal with all the crap clutter on the screen and do your best. Though, they are at least looking at that part of the problem.
The change is barely noticeable…. you play 4 matches in a hotjoin 8v8 or 10v10 server and you’ll easily get everything you need. 4 unique maps in 4 matches and the caps/kills/stat will come – usually in the 2nd game maybe 3rd. You don’t even have to win any tourney games. It’s still way easier than the PVE one IMO (in terms of it being a chore).

Thanks for the update Johnathan Sharp. And please, PLEASE, ignore all the condescending remarks. The majority of us appreciate all the hard work you guys are putting in to this game and it does not go unnoticed.
Every time I come on these forums I see all the negativity and just wanna give you guys hugs.
Who speaks for the majority? You? I think (my opinion) the actual majority has already spoken by leaving the game, frustrated/bored with it’s current state (still playing), or at least having stopped playing Spvp.
I for one echo what others have said here before, the update is nice, but even adding in these features won’t save the game let alone grow it. Where are the casual/new/normal run of the mill players going to come from? Why are they going to not only play Spvp, but stick around long term? We’ll need more game-types so we aren’t stuck with the same meta (bunkers are boring OK?). So, we are even farther off from the Spvp gametype even potentially growing (my opinion).
Hmmm, I’m really concerned about this Spvp side of things now…. Tpvp (free and paids) are basically dead; especially for puggers. And maybe it is just me, but it seems this past week that the hotjoin quality has really gone downhill (Yes, even more so than normal). I’ve never seen so many lopsided games with people fighting on the roads so much. However, that might just be my attitude towards the game now with so much built up frustration and my patience gone. Unless we get something besides conquest (or a change to bunkers or allowing caps when outnumbering the node at least) mode soon it may just be EOL for the spvp side of this game. Hopefully I’m just an cynical kitten and dead wrong?
I’m 39 and was going for 40 this week, but I’ve noticed that I’m getting owned by classes/specs that never used to bother me (dodging! Whats that?!?), and I think it’s just due to me not giving a crap because of the state of the game. There is no reason I should be this bored/frustrated with a game that has so much going right for it (or maybe I just see the potential), but is lacking in so many key areas.

I’m loving the customer service in this thread. It’s kinda like they made this thread to try and get everybody to post in it and not spam the tech board; then proceed to ignore it for the past 4 months. I can’t believe the only post in this entire thread from an Anet employee is in the first one. And they want our money…. lol
Sometimes (plenty of times tonight) when I try to join a random game nothing will happen for 20 seconds or so and then I’ll get a its full message. Is there any plan to try to speed this feedback up? I mean if the game is full just tell me its full when I click join. I don’t know if the game tries to connect over a period of 15-20 seconds before giving the error message or what, but tonight it really got on my nerves.
In hotjoin it is the 0/0/30/20/20 condition P/D Thieve’s. Seeing more and more of these 1, 1, 1, 1, dodge, dodge, stealth, caltrops, TG, come back with full/almost full health 1 spammers. I usually just leave the point and go somewhere else. Then its the hey I try and jump on ppl while always in a zerg full zerker dudes; usually BS Thieves or 100b Warriors.
TPvP it isn’t usually the classes that I loathe as much as the current so called meta… bunkers in conquest mode (because its the only game mdoe) just makes me chuckle.
I main a Ranger and as far as classes in a 1v1 sense I don’t really mind fighting any of them. I would just say any spec like the condition thief or a good D/D Ele, because if you get them low they can always run anytime they want (if they are smart); pretty much making them a waste of time to fight. Of course bunkers would fit here too (such a terrible thing to have in conquest…. seriously boring lol. Stand on a point and troll – makes me shake my head). Memsers might be the hardest depending on what spec I run and how much AE I can do to knock the clones out fast enough.
For some reason I have this thought that this feature was in one of the early BWE’s…. but I’m not sure. I think I remember seeing the message, but maybe it was from playing GW1 some around that time.
It’s a feature.
Sometimes, arrows can miss, like in real life.
If you miss or it says “obstructed” it’s your fault for not playing the game properly.
Anybody who has played a ranger extensively knows that is not true. I have had a plethora of instances of fighting NPCs/PCs and getting the message randomly without the target or I moving, or anything moving into the path of the projectile.
To me it is simple: MF needs to be on banners and food only and/or a stat that is gained in addition to current gear sets (e.g. current zerker but MF added in). It should not be a stat on gear in lieu of other stats – this just seems like common sense to me in a game that is supposed to promote team play?!?
Its funny that ppl don’t even complain about the worst thief spec of them all (spvp wise) – that being the 0/0/30/20/20 D/D, D/P condition/healing spec. Something like:
With Lich Runes on Armor, + 10% bleeding on MH Dagger, corruption on offhand dagger. Secondary weapons use +10% bleeding and battle. Use Shaman amulet with jewel and you’ll have yourself plenty of condition damage, healing, and toughness to do whatever the hell you want. I play this every once in a blue moon, and I just laugh at how much control I have over almost all the fights I am in. Caltrops, DB, DB, Dodge, Dodge, (steal if boons go up), CnD, heal up,……. and guess what is next?? I bet you can’t!
The problem with thieve’s is initiative ….. its initiative initiative, initiative, and initiative. They ability to use the same weapon skill over and over when no other class can is just too great.
(edited by Kuju.2153)
The real problem with the thief class is initiative combined with skills like HS, DB, CnD, & PS etc. They not only get certain weapon skills that are already more powerful then quite a few weapon skills for other classes, but they can use them at will (assuming they are smart with the resource). If other classes had access to a resource like this they too would become pretty powerful – even if you wanted to say some weapon sets would need balanced./toned down.
Thief is killable, no doubt, but in the right hands/spec, thief along with mesmer are the two classes I know I have to play the best against with almost 0 mistakes if I want to win the fight. They are just more dangerous then really any other class. I know warrior can hurt, but they are just too obvious in the animations. I better have the awareness and see the thief coming so I can anticipate what I need to do or the fight is probably already over – I can’t say that about many of the classes.
I think retaliation wouldn’t even have to be a visual effect; if it were just to just make a certain sound when it was up and I was hitting an opponent. Better yet if they choose to improve upon the combat text it could easily be identified there too. Stability should be more visually obvious, though.
It’s thief. They have more than a couple viable builds, no cooldowns on weapon skills, and an instant damage skill when traited that will probably take 1/4-1/5 of most players health. Then there comes the ability to escape fairly easily (SB, stealth is all you need), and all 3 of their elites are viable. Why wouldn’t you play this class? When/if they ever add onto conquest mode I think thief will really start to shine even more (scary).
Yes, they are killable, but in the right hands in certain specs they have almost complete control over when/where/if/how the fights will happen.
I play a Ranger as a main, and I wouldn’t have a problem with this. However, most pets used for pvp are pretty squishy and die rather quickly – even full BM mine get whacked pretty fast (toughness signet would help). Kill the dang pet. I don’t let my pet run off with a target unless they are low on health and/or not very mobile. Otherwise, I just hit 3 to bring him back or switch out to start on a new target.
Glory boosters should boost rank gains too (even if at a different %). Chests for hitting the next level need to be more significant. The rewards are usually subpar at best; maybe give rare equipment you can not otherwise get at your current level (example at rank 30-39 I get rank 40-50ish items each time I level).
I still think they made the ranks too steep starting in the 20s, but I doubt that will change now. I am rank 36 now, and I feel I should be at least in the 50s; where you start to get gear that actually looks decent. If ranks came a little faster it would only help the population grow more. Rank only says how long you have played anyway, if there are a bunch of level 80s next summer would that really bother anybody? They’re going to add more ranks anyway – you can see them above the level 60,70,80 vendors.
I doubt I’ll even be rank 55 by next summer, and I know I play more than the average person. Do you really think I just want to stare at the same gear for 2-3 months at a time when I get to higher ranks? No thanks.
(edited by Kuju.2153)
+1 for magic find only being on food, boosters, and banners. No reason what-so-ever for there to ever be a possible choice between stats that help your group/team and a single stat that helps yourself.
I didn’t read through all the posts (don’t have a lot of time on my hands during the holiday season), but I wanted to throw my hat in the ring.
Simply put I think locking traits, and preventing folks from logging out into different classes is a good change. However, I think letting us change weapons, utilities and elites during the match out of combat should remain. If traits are locked, then potentially switching weapons and/or utilities isn’t as big of a deal and can even be a handicap if switch and get caught into combat before I can switch back (not likely, but possible). I don’t just switch weapons and traits for speed, but I also change my elite around on some of the classes I play based on the situation I think I’ll be heading into (easy example is I’ll change back and forth from my Golem and Plague form on my Necro whether I want the extra damage/control or I think helping to blind spam a point for my team will help more).
I should state my opinion would come based on free tournaments as I don’t do paids, and may never. If it’s a change for the better for paids then so be it.
I think with the recent login problems after their maintenance this week it is evident something is up with their network. I just started lagging AGAIN at 7:30am EST. It’s almost every night/morning when NA/AU primetime hits. Something is WRONG here Anet…. come on guys. I can’t believe this thread would go on for this long. I say this without really wanting to say it (because they do a lot of things wrong), but there is no way a thread would go on like this without a response this if it were in the WoW Support forums. At least not when I was still playing the darn game.
Yeah, I have to say I’m about fed up with this lag at certain times of the day. I’ll put up with everything else that’s either broken, missing, or sub-optimal…. not this. At least give us a response, even if its taking the easy way out and trying to blame our ISP for only lagging on your servers (at peak playing hours).
I copied it back in again, but you are right it doesn’t appear to work. However, you can copy/paste it into your browser.
