Ranger | Necromancer | Warrior | Engineer | Thief
Skip Ranger and Engi, since leather prices will make you wish you stayed in plate armour.
You really just don’t see any improvement from an i7 over an i5 in games. The money is better spent elsewhere or saved if gaming is your goal
Ironic, given your signature. That said, true, especially if this old clunker is not the only game you play.
Ironically proving again that you need to not be a Ranger in order to be strong in the competitive game.
@OP: Don’t expect the things that drove you away from the game to not still be in the game to drive you away the second time. In my experience, if you didn’t find the game worthwhile sticking to, it won’t likely draw you back either.
I can confirm that this bug is still alive and well. My inventory is not anywhere near the right hand side of my 1920×1080 screen, but it will resize, or shall I say shrink, by one column on the right each time the client is restarted.
I play PvE and WvW with a long term goal of “someday raids.” Never really been interested in PvP or fractals.
For PvE a solid “No”
For WvW, you do get slightly better stats and can use the infusion slots for WvW infusions (to boost your stats by a tiny little more), but I would personally only upgrade the pants and torso slots. In that order. The pants upgrade gives you your biggest bang per upgrade buck.
As other have said already, upgrading you weapons and trinkets will help you out in all areas of the game because the difference from Exotics is more marked.
BlackOcean, it won’t really matter. I’ve got an i7 with an R9 280X. Admittedly the GPU is two years old tech, but I can run everything in this game at max settings. GW2 will reliably crash once or twice per play session (1-2 hours of play) because of the DX9 based engine it runs on.
Also, if they are Charr or Asuran, or known to be AFK I let them bleed out. No amount of XP could motivate me to revive in those cases.
You’re missing out. Revive those AFKers enough times and they’ll come back to find themselves naked and needing to waypoint out to an armor repairer.
Oh, I used to do this when repair cost was still a thing. Nowadays, I’m not even sure characters display naked, so it’s not worth the effort.
If they are charr or asura, just res them up to 99% and then jump on their face for a bit.
Oh, I like this human. It understands!

You sound like me three months ago. Now I don’t even bother with step one any more. Not sure if it was because the game was “stagnent,” or the hundreds of other reasons. Despite the game’s many, MANY flaws, at least it doesn’t suck my wallet/time dry if I don’t let it.
Would have to be pretty hard hearted to watch someone be downed and hear them say ‘help me’ and do nothing, xp or no xp.
You’re right. That’s when you stomp them to see your new gemstore bought animation play out.
Also, if they are Charr or Asuran, or known to be AFK I let them bleed out. No amount of XP could motivate me to revive in those cases.
WTH is a “Stagnent”?
Over a year of postings and this is just one of many things in the game that have not been addressed at all.
And that ladies and gentlefolk is why I’ve pretty much given up on this game when the camera/PoV “patch” (bug?) came out and broke so many things. Somebody still invested in the game, please take over from me in bumping this on a monthly basis or so. Perhaps they will finally fix it for GW3?
Has this been fixed yet? I may have missed the patch notes.
Send in Bear Grylls with a Swiss Army knife, game over! Probably adopt it as a pet.
More than likely eat it as tame it…
What about Bloodstone Shards, Eldritch Scrolls, Augur’s Stones, Crystals, Philosopher’s Stones, and Siege Masters Guides? How will those be purchased going forward, or are they no longer going to be required for forge crafting? What about any of those already on someone’s account?
I don’t much care what they are called, as long as it follows the adjectives “disgusting, little, conniving, egotistical, flop-eared, kittenen, cruel, kitten”…
lol @ the forum-filtered result of that sentence.
A long term fix is being worked on for this, but due to the seriousness of the rewards being given incorrectly it was determined that temporarily disabling the rewards was preferable to them being exploited.
What this means about the eventual “real” fix is that it has to be done and tested out to be sure that it is working appropriately again. It’s unfortunately not a simple fix (read: needs a lot of development time) that we can push out quickly.
I guess what I don’t understand is why this feature was working fine for 2 years, and then was broken in an update that was full of game-breaking bugs, and now it requires a long-term fix and testing, when the patch that broke it apparently received very little in the way of testing and reassurances.
I’m not faulting you, per se, as I understand that directives are typically given to QA rather than the other way around, but something is not right here, and the upper management responsible for these decisions need to answer for this. The purpose of QA, any QA, is to test things before they negatively impact the customer. Not to leave customers with broken builds while the company tests the fixes to the things that should not have been broken in the first place.
At the end of this, I would expect at the very least that some feature update is being made to the HoM – perhaps Balthazar weapons being added to the Monument of Valor? If all we get back is what we started with, and no sensible explanation as to why the code was being messed with when nothing was being done with the HoM, that will end in another disappointment.
Valid questions, but beware! Some forum moderation happened to this thread within the last day that makes me suspect opinions like this are not welcome. I wonder how long it will take before ArenaNet realises that you cannot fool all of your players all of the time. Censoring well-written, but ultimately negative feedback can only buy you so much time to carve up the golden goose…
I can see it now: HoT comes out and animations are a gem store item…
Hehe yes, as that post you quoted was made in another thread.
Yeah, sorry for the delay in noticing that my merge attempt had worked. I was infracted (for an unrelated matter) shortly after self-reporting the two threads for merging and therefore couldn’t check for a couple of days.
At least now we have one thread to bind them all…
So I just got hit with this gold stripping Idea….
Sold a friend some skins, he sent me gold, Anet took gold.
Anet worried about losing Gem sales, I buy 50 bucks of gems every fortnight, But I wont be doing that again until my gold is returned, ty.
Your “friend” was a hacked account being operated by RMT, commited fraud, and is now locked because of it.
Why is it that the guilty are always as stupid as mud, then expect the rest of us to be stupider and twice as gullible?
While now also dealing with gold buyers may be a little too late, I applaud your attempts to try and make this game less of a cesspool. Thanks!
By the way, there is a long thread about this issue (that seems to be buried into forums pages now) and I posted a few testing there, by chance would some of those things be helpful to track it down? Here is it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Inventory-Window-changing-size-alone/
I have asked that these threads be merged, and they have been as can be seen by my reply above this one.
Please merge this with the Inventory resizing thread
With such long delays before anything is done about things, one often wonders how much is honest truth and how much merely lip service when the Olympians deign to speak from on high Mount ArenaNet…
Seriously… why the kitten haven’t the pets been fixed yet…
Low hanging fruit.
Someone should give them a swift kick in those fruit… I main(-ed) a ranger. Since that disastrous patch I’m not sure if it is present of past tense I should use. For my main and the game as a whole.
If this game was still, or had expanded on the spirit of, what they promised in that vaunted manifesto of theirs, I’d pay a sub in a heartbeat. As it turned out, we now sit with a game that tries way too hard to pander to absolutely everybody and their kitten in an effort to entice them to spend more money on gems. I don’t begrudge them the right to make money in an ongoing way, but did they have to lose the game’s soul in order to do so?
With the amount of fun-breaking bugs this game has, they would commit game suicide anyway. Most of us barely tolerate it because deep down we expect to get what we pay for. Most of us pay nothing…
Priority has been upgraded from Soon™ to Real Soon™. I’m also not sure 21 days qualifies as a “brief period,” but at least Gaile tries to feed the hamster once in a while.
In other news, buy more meese… mooses… mice?
I have a hate for males that play female humans/sylvari/norn characters.
Why?
Are they going to fix the rest of the bugs? I’m getting concerned.
It’s looking less and less likely as each day passes.
In other news, pre-order HoT now!
Is there anyone apart from a few gw1 players that actually care about this title
It might be 200,000 to 1,000,000 GW1 players affected by this in some way. Broken reward system is still broken, even if those who didn’t earn it are largely unaffected.
Hyperbole much?
- I dislike humans and warriors so much I once made a human warrior and ran around wearing only a feathered helmet. Not surprising I rarely died either. Once I got him to 80 I deleted him, thus beginning my sadistic ritual of always keeping one character slot open to make a human to abuse then delete when I hit 80. So far I have abused and murdered 47 humans….
- I often wish I was any of my characters because my own life is so sad and unfulfilling….
- ^ Because of that I will secretly do RP in areas none of my friends or guildies are in because they will make fun of me
- I actually enjoy using most of the racial skills….
- ^ I use those as part of my secret RP too
- I often avoid killing ambient or non-hostile creatures unless they attack me first except dredge. I don’t know why but the sound they make when they die is extremely gratifying and I enjoy going out of my way to slaughter untold numbers of them for no reason other than personal gratification.
- In WvW I will often troll warriors I defeat by downing them then running off and letting them almost revive and hit them once to stop the self revive. I will repeat this until they either vengeance or they ragequit. If they use vengeance I kite them in circles until they die but never hit them just to be a jerk.
- Occasionally I will grab the orb in spirit watch and run with it forever or drop it in front of an enemy and pick it back up right before they get to it. Repeat as desired until it despawns.
Rather disturbing, I hope you live out your sadistic inclinations virtually only.
I hope you live out your judgemental inclinations in private in future.
May as well make a collective list of random things people have found during this patch:
I’ve received an email that this issue has been resolved from GW2 support but I’ve not had a chance to test it yet. Can someone who’s running GW2 on XP please confirm?
Thanks,
Marshie
Still not fixed as of 2015-03-19 06:00 GMT. I tested this on both my kids’ machines. They both run XP, but have differing hardware, so it’s not a hardware issue.
I can start the game with the “-windowed” flag, then change it to “Windowed Fullscreen” with the in-game settings and can transition zones, etc. without an issue. Fullscreen will sometimes allow you to do stuff until you change zones or sometimes start flickering immediately. After changing to “Windowed Fullscreen” in-game I can remove the “-windowed” flag and change zones and exit/restart the game without issue.

Posting about your innocence in advance of your ban isn’t going to help you. Nobody is going to see this and say ‘Oh shoot, watch out for that guy when you do the banwave.’
Lol. Nobody’s going to get banned for this. And those clamouring for bans or rollbacks to protect their precious exclusivity won’t sway ArenaNet either. The rewards have already been temporarily disabled so nobody will get rewards they didn’t work for.
The amount of hysteria in this thread is just laughable.

Buggedy-bug-bug
The irony of this thread’s title is just so deliciously hilarious.
Good job, once again, ArenaNet! Your dedication to delivering polished and bug-free content is second to none… /sarcasm
I get to the char screen… hit play, the load screen comes up and runs for a second, then suddenly I see my desktop and the screen is flashing.. I can still hear the load screen music in the background, But the comp is frozen and all I can do is shut it down. I have tried 4 times,.. I even tried switching chars to see if it was a problem loading in the pvp zone.. but same thing happened. Help!!
Apparently, they decided to end support of Windows XP without telling anyone. Game will not start now. I get music, but the actual window/screen won’t pop up, instead I get a flickering fullscreen window that won’t go away unless I shut off my computer.
My game is unplayable after latest update. I’ve tried everything, including uninstalling the game and downloading the client again. Game tries to start, then only a blue, blinking bar with GuildWars2 showing at the top, upper left.
The game is unplayable after the latest update. Game tries to load then locks up the screen with only a blue, blinking bar at the top with GuildWars2 on the left side. I’ve tried rebooting, turning off virus protection; nothing works. Even tried uninstalling the game, and downloading the client from the website to reinstall. Still not playable.
I had to delete the sweetfx stuff to even get past the client. Now when i click on play at character selection, the games loads for a bit, and starts flashing between the desk and black screen. I have to reboot. This almost broke my pc, my monitor stayed black at startup. :S
Having the same issue on my son’s XP machine. Apparently this might help.
Hell, I’d rather visit each PoI in the WvW maps 10x in different weeks to get a Gift than doing the Hearts in PvE
Those godawful Hearts are the main reason I have only ever managed 100% map completion on one of my characters. Except for my poor NPE thief they all have 100% WvW maps in comparison.
Not that I mind this change, as I still have the bragging rights of doing it before it was removed.
I read “cheap curb stomp tactics” and now I’m dissapointed…
This whole thread is just golden…
I have no idea who any of these people are. Why do they matter?
They don’t.
“With our extensive testing we have come to the conclusion that the Camera is too confusing to new players, and will be completely revamped in the upcoming patch. You will no longer have any control on its direction or zoom, and will be locked to the same distance for all players until level 75”
How did you get your hands on the patch notes?
Also, ArenaNet, fire that competent QA department! We won’t stand for patches that don’t break other, unrelated things in the game…
I have come to hate this game and generally despise the players and developers equally, but still log into it every day. I know, I really should just cut my losses and move on.
I often don’t get further than staring at my beloved, beautiful level-80 characters in the selection screen before exiting.
I main a longbow/axe+wh ranger and therefore despise bearbows even more than anyone already mentioned above.
I love underwater combat and it fills me with sadness that it doesn’t get any love.
The fact that my poor thief is traitless is a form of punishment for the class and the race. When ArenaNet gives me lemons I make vinegar.
I still think the Shiverpeaks areas are the most breathtakingly beautiful areas I have ever seen in a game.
I think “legendaries” (oh how I love the irony implicit in that word) are tasteless and gaudy baubles and therefore exactly what the mindless masses that covet or have them deserve. That it is such a ‘legendary’ grind (in material, time and/or gold cost) to obtain them just reinforces this belief and fills me with great joy.
I refuse to revive, share with or otherwise help those disgusting, flea-ridden, long-eared freaks and also any Charr. Go anthropomorphic or get out of my game.
This post will probably be infracted after being reported by the overly sensitive and I’m okay with that. It will serve as vindication of my first point above.
But the TP already provides that function. Just type in the amount of silk you need, and check its gold price. You now know how much gold you need to buy your daily silk.
But not everyone wants the answer to all their in-game needs to be “go buy it on the TP.” Not everyone wants to play this game like it’s the Home Shopping channel.
Heresy! GW2 is a game about an economy. Everything else is just ancillary to the TP and keeping the economy stable. That so many TP barons may have a vested interest in this specific discussion is simply a by-product of that.
I would take it one step further: remove all the “Bore-conics” and their writers.
For those not aware of their origin, they are supposed to be a part of the Raiment of the Lich outfit, which was released during Halloween. This was originally a Guild Wars costume, that you could display instead of your armor. With how the backpack system works in Guild Wars 2, I was somewhat surprised at the time of release, that they did not release these wings with it, but here they are. I would expect these wings to be on sale again during Halloween 2015, together with the outfit. Probably separate from one another though. More money to make and all that. Even if they butchered a nice costume into two pieces to sell individually.
Guild Wars version: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Raiment_of_the_Lich
If anything this is the only part that smells somewhat of a cash grab. 1,200 gems instead of the usual 700 if you are interested in GW1 nostalgia.
As for the wings per se, I see that the sheep and their gems were soon parted, so I say, “Good job ArenaNet!”
Another Patch Tuesday has come and gone without a fix to this ONE YEAR old bug.
…and in other news, buy more gems…

Unless the current trait unlock system is replaced,
That has already been confirmed, though with no details on what it will be replaced with.
Colin Son-of-Johan only confirmed that they are looking at it, nothing else…

Unless the current trait unlock system is replaced, they can offer me all the free slots in the world and I’ll still not create a new character.
What I do think will happen is a 25% off character slot sale a week before HoT drops. That’s the same as free, right?
lol @ might stacking now that they nerfed the effectiveness of might…
^ lol @ players unaware of how might affects rangers
lol @ knee-jerk (or just jerk) assumptions made.
I am well educated in the use of might on my ranger (main). You will have to agree that might (and those sigils/runes that give it) is less effective now than before the “re-balancing” (nerfing) done a few weeks back. I can therefore not take a might stacking (ranger) build seriously, when it gains so little now at the cost of so much.
the re balancing does little to tone down might stacking for ranger. You having a ranger main does not prove you are good or even educated when it comes to playing one.
However you seem to be the type that also claims that pets are totally unviable after they had their damaged nerfed. Because now pets can no longer hit for 16k. And since you seem to be that type of player, then there is no helping you. You will forever be left in the darkness that your own ignorance provides.oh and, your initial post is no less knee jerk then my reply. You reap what you sow.
Was that really your rebuttal?
If so, it is so full of assumptions and ad hominems that I cannot take you seriously. Don’t worry, I’ll see myself out of this useless thread.
