Ranger | Necromancer | Warrior | Engineer | Thief
Originally, I was looking for vestments & leggings that didn’t show too much skin with this set put together but, unfortunately, with female ‘light’ armor, our options are Very limited.
Imagine my search for a vestment that only had the upper back open, because I decided that with the Tequatl wings, my ‘human’ necro should be a succubus (sultry and/or deadly but not in an overt way). The only one I could find was the WvW armor, and I had to match the rest of the set around that.
She only just reached 80 earlier in the week, so I don’t have the equipment or dyes (Midnight Fire and/or White) for her final look yet.
Yrsi Ulfsdóttir, my Norn ranger. She carries most of her worldly possessions in that backpack…
Yrsi Ulfsdóttir, my Norn ranger. She carries most of her worldly possessions in that backpack…
Puny, rude humans photo-bombing a Norn’s trip to the beach…
Something that bothered me a lot in the personal story, was how everything kept revolving around Destiny’s Edge and Trahearne. It made me feel like I was a bystander, rather than the hero. And I also didn’t like those characters, which made it worse.
I never felt that. Trehearne and DE was always dead or dying whenever they fought at my side, and Trehearne always deferred to my character when trying to lead us to victory. My character was the one the Pact cheered, not DE or even the ‘chosen one.’ While Trehearne was a little bit of a Marty Stu, he was always eclipsed by my character.
As for not liking them, yeah, about the only one I could stand was Caithe.
- Interesting characters and character moments make for a better experience overall. We’re not doing it at the expense of putting other things in the game.
I saw the lesbian relationship ‘reveal’ coming a mile away. The hints were there from the first introduction of Kasmeer being Marjorie’s detective agency partner. I feel it just fell flat at the beach scene, since as a player who never did any of the Southsun content, I just wasn’t invested enough in the Kasmeer character to care. I just wanted her to “shut up already!” The ‘reveal’ could possibly have been a little more romantic and a little less dramatic, since not all players have been with the game from the vaunted beta days.
I was once again a little disappointed in the writing team, as the pay-off was less stellar than the build up.
Missing from that preview…
Ranger
• Amazing things!Lol +1
I wonder if we can get them to slowly start answering really generic details about these amazing changes? For instance, land based, or water based combat?
Neither. It will be (hot) air based…
Go Norn or go home!
Much as I dislike them Charr are pretty huge too though.
I have to wonder, why would you want to duplicate an in-game character and not be unique when creating your character? I can understand trying to replicate characters from other games, but unless you wish to parody, I don’t see the point…
I personally don’t rez players anymore unless it’s absolutely safe to do so. Besides half of the players cause more problems when they’re alive anyway, the second champion for example.
Also myself as well as many others have explained the champion mechanics time and time again. But it just doesn’t sink in with some people.
And you’re not to blame? If you can’t carry your platform of ‘bads,’ you’re not all that good a player yourself. Give yourself a pat on the back, mate!
Oh, and it’s “Also, many others and I…” or less strict “Also, I and many others…” ‘Myself’ is used as the object of a verb or preposition to refer to yourself after you have already been mentioned, never as the subject! E.g. I make a fool of myself on a public forum.
Yeah, it was kitten difficult to make a profit off the products (Mystic listed) at that time. I’m glad they are coming down in price.
Update to above, I had a TP crash again this morning. No zone transitions, apart from taking the WP from the crafting stations to the bank/TP in DR. Opened the TP, went to collections tab and got my stuff fine, then tried to open history tab and…
It did not crash again after that, even though I did a lot of TP transactions throughout the morning. I have sent the error log to ANet each time, so let’s hope it helped.
Both my ranger and necro are the last one’s standing when I roll a platform with bads. If I roll a platform with equally (or better) skilled players, we beat the champ with time to spare. It is the skill of the player, not the build or class, that largely determines the outcome.
I’m sure that if there was a poll ingame the results would be the same
Anet has been very quiet about season 2 as well though.
To be fair they have never been vocal about WvW in general. Personally I would love a second season, but this time without them changing it mid-season (here’s looking at you Toxic crap) like they promised.
I would also take it even slower to achieve the meta this time round, considering that the only reward that was worth it was the title. I would be okay with no achievements linked to the season too. (pun intended)
8/10 she has an innocent yet deadly look to her, I like it.
My elementalist, Travis Hawke
7/10 – Typical human male baby-face with a beard. Not entirely your fault.
3/10 – Fashion disaster. Again not entirely your fault as light armor males got shafted big time by ArenaNet. You lost 4 points just for the torso though, so that one’s on you.
Yay! Finally the casual players with more money than time can also be competitive in the game! You can already P2W just by converting gems to gold.
It’s a “Mommy let me paint your face” from your adorable 4 year old mask.
“Now you’re pretty.”
Haha! I must agree with this.
It’s also a little too close stylistically to the Norn character “tattoos”.
Yeah, Norn players should start protesting to have the face paint removed immediately. If Norn’s can’t wear Human cultural armor (on fire no less) no stinking Human should have face tats! Next you know Asurans will be able to have 4 horns and 4 ears…
Well put Fiontar, but there’s a much simpler explanation. Cash is king and talk is cheap! Hubris often leads to short-sightedness…
It goes bad in the overflows usually because there are too few people. In main, there’s always enough people to fill the lanes and have some spare. But yeah, defeating the Marionette with 14 people in each lane is, of course, harder.
This. Was in a full overflow and we got 4/5 even though we failed lane 2 early, and only got a second portal in lane 1 just before failing the event. Was in an overflow last night where we had a 20/25/15/15/15 spread at the start, got portals so fast that I still had portal sickness from lane 2 by the time we failed the event 1/5. More people would surely have won that one.
I don’t think our server has managed it either though.
3. Adequate rewards – this is a very wide open topic… one thing that is bothersome is how can a lvl 35 fractal land you only 1.3 gold (can expect this to take 2 hrs or so) Yet a dungeon you can non speed run under 30 minutes due to ease of it lands you 1 gold. Both are only 1 time per day.
Or how spending 5 minutes on the TP can nett a casual player/trader like me 2.4 gold, but doing (when I can actually be bothered these days) the Claw of Jormag event (takes about 20 minutes) netts me a yellow, 4 greens and 2 blues once per day. This is the stingiest (in-game rewards-wise) game I have ever played. It’s easier to make gold through and buy “other people’s lucky drops” off the TP.
Cyrehn:
Order of Whispers themed armor.
The armor set took me awhile to construct, I didn’t like the original full set of the Order’s light armor so I switched a few pieces around, til’ I saw fit, & this is what I came up with. c:
I hear you. Had the same problem with my ranger and ended up only using the Whisper’s shoulders and boots as a nod to the Order she joined.
Nice theme though. I like that she’s not all skulls-or-gtfo. The daggers and staff look as elegant as her armor, even if the latter shows a lot of skin.
Well poebel's tip seems to have worked for me, but then I’m still on an XP box. We’ll see for how long though, as the game still crashed with the same “send error report” screen after I cleared the cache files. Wasn’t while entering the TP this time though.
Thanks a lot spoj. Glad to see my choice to swap traits was correct.
She just reached 80 and now that I have been able to gear her in exotics I can start to appreciate the power of this build. A bit weak in crowds (although golem or plague blind spamming helps for that), but a lot of fun. Vets melt, and champs can easily be soloed.
If using axe as primary weapon, is there anything you would change as far as traits go? I just prefer axe, even if I know the DPS will not be the same.
Also, it’s not exactly clear, but was this guide current (meta at this writing) as of the December (2013) balance patch?
Weird. I couldn’t open it at all. Your bump seems to have fixed that.
What happened to the guide? Was it moved, and if so, where?
My Sylvari Necromancer named Vusatu
Nice! He looks like some exotic, vampiric (and ultimately deadly) grave moth.
Dear Kool Enoff,
Firstly, I hope the misspelling of both “cool” and “enough” was intentional. I also hope you never get a tattoo that reads “Kool Enoff”…
That aside, you have to ask yourself: do you want to have fun in open world PvE and some PvP or in the whole game? Ranger for the former, warrior for the latter. If you have the skill, ranger is also the latter, but you will be frustrated at times.
Let me guess: OP is a warrior main who somehow got outplayed by a SB/axe-axe ranger? Or a dev?
I haven’t even gotten to the warrior and thief threads yet. Get ready for nerfs and functionality changes everywhere.
The only thing surpassing your ego is your hubris. Must be a (self-styled) dev then with too much time on its hands…
Oh the crushed hopes of gullible gamers everywhere… Bugs are only ever fixed when they could affect the bottom line.
No harm, no foul.
We all still get to “play as we want,” but we should not be whiny brats expecting it to be at zero cost all the time.
While I commend you, ThunderBadger, you have to realise that bug fixes loses a company money (and perhaps a few customers) while new content/gem-store items ensures that you make more of both. Which do you think will be a priority?
I thought I was the only one having this issue. I will try what poebel suggested, but (like that T-unit with the heavy accent said) I will be back…
The commanders/ overflows and mapchat should really have been a heads up
While I agree with you, I personally often ignore map chat when I’m solo-ing areas.
I am convinced these people are doing it on purpose, it is not like anyone ever leveled in Longass Pass before this event- that zone has mostly been empty for more than a year, only people who go there are Priory and they go to the Priory and leave
They do not hang around because the map is not fun, too big and a pain to navigate with nothing going on.
I see more people in Fireheart Rise than Lornar’s Pass.
Not true. Lornar’s Pass is a fairly easy and linear map to gather in. You go up/down one side of the valley and return the other direction on the other side. It’s one of my personal favourite areas to gather a mixture of soft/seasoned wood and iron, silver and gold ore. And if there are more people like me, there goes your claim.
There’s also a CoF in Fireheart Rise, so your counter example is flawed.
That said, I agree with the general sentiment that players should know by now that the area is a deathtrap for these two weeks. “Play as you want” should therefore have at least the repair bill penalty if you were there and were being a little selfish/self-absorbed.
Hey guys,
You must participate in the marionette encounter in order to progress to the step where you go to LA. You do not have to WIN the fight, only participate. Once you participated that step should go away.
For clarification please (I don’t need a dev reply, just anyone that knows): Is this after achieving at least one of the “Boss Thumper” dailies, or after completing the whole “Origins of Madness” meta achievement?
I have done the former, but had no idea to look out for a yellow star in LA, so the in-game/universe prompting for the player is a bit… lacking.
I replied in the thread so self-aggrandized. “OP has no clue” would be my succinct answer.
Let me guess: OP is a warrior main who somehow got outplayed by a SB/axe-axe ranger? Or a dev?
Agreed with the last three posters. Personally like the ‘new’ animation more, but way too little a difference to understand the fuss.
Buyer Beware!
/15 dead Charrs, just in case…
That is all fine and well, but if my monthly (real money) gem purchases don’t fund the fixing of bugs that have been with the game since I started playing (or even before, since I wasn’t here since beta; May day 2013 to be precise) no amount of ‘new content’ is going to ‘allow’ me to continue enjoying, and ergo playing, this game. This is by far the buggiest game I have ever had the misfortune of liking enough to continue play (for the most part).
Added to that, the blatant cash grabs (that IMO make up more than 80% of the new releases in the gem store each fortnight; don’t get me started on BLC keys or dye packs or needing gated tokens—I’m looking at you tickets scraps—for so-called ‘horizontal progression’) is just insulting to me as a loyal player/payer. Talk about adding insult to injury.
Yeah, I know that probably sounds either contra or entitled to the rabid fanboys/girls. I don’t care. I bought the privilege to voice my opinion, so you needn’t reply.
Seeing this topic at the top of the page again, I’ll just add my voice to the growing list of dissent:

Hates (yeah, “dislikes” is too mild a word):
Are you running the game from a non-administrator login?
8/10, very nice look but I’m not a big fan of the hairstyle :P
Bet you’re not looking forward to the eventual re-skinning of the Flamekissed set, are you?
I like that armor, I know the chest piece but I’m not familiar with those leggins, what set r they from???
I believe it is the leggings from the gemstore Viper set.
It could very well be another heal skill for all the professions = amazing new thing in their minds…
Oh those warrior tears are so delicious… mmmmmm
They sure are…
The price of the Stag Helm, Grenth Hood and the new little scar say 500 gems per single item will be the price point for helms. Toxic Gloves and Mantle prices show that it’s 400 gems for shoulders and gloves. Expect to pay more for a single chest/leggings item.
I have an ascended LB, WH and soon will have a main-hand Axe too on my Ranger main. Yet when my son started playing the game, and picked a Ranger alt a week ago, I told him to learn how to use the GS and Sword+Axe off-hand. He’s probably better off for me telling him to toss that LB he picked up in the nearest fire…
To that end, I randomly ported into Dredgehaunt and there were 2 silver and 2 gold veins on my screen. Alas, there was only 1 iron.
Then you are lying, since Dredgehaunt only has iron and gold (no silver) nodes.
