monthy reward: why am i forced to wvwvw?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LadyRhonwyn.2501

Considering monthlies now give 10 karma jugs, each worth 4,500 karma…….I think it’s fair.

I was thinking about that too. But then, you get 1 a day .

So, if you want to use those jugs for the expensive karma armour, you’ll need less than 60 days (42K per armour piece, 4.5K per jug) for a full set. That’s 2 months (let’s just take that 60 as that is easy to use, in reality you’ll need less as you get more than 4.2K per jug and you’ll get karma from the events as well). Now, if you also do the monthly, you’ll have to do the daily’s for 50 days. Is it worth doing those WvW kills to get that armour 10 days earlier?

For me, no. I am now mapping WvW, so I did get my 50 kills in last month. But I wouldn’t have let a tear if I hadn’t been able to do that…

How to spot a bot!

There’s one other thing by which you can locate a bot train.

They follow perfectly in line with the first. As GW2 doesn’t have an auto-follow feature, this can only be achieved by running a script following a strict path. If the first turns on a certain spot and the second, third, etc turn at exactly the same spot, you will have a bot train…

I agree. Either that or design hoods so it doesn’t look like you suddenly joined the monk-hood and shaved your head.

Now, if we could actually make a bald female (like you could in GW1)….

this is a problem they also had in GW1, and which is why I hardly ever wore those hats, except on my monk (who was bald…)

I feel that it is exactly impossible to complete with a character this level or lower which is really disappointing to find out after sinking so much time and effort into the event.

I finished both quests on my lvl31… So, it was possible, but you really do need friends. It might even be possible to go there with an ever lower level, but I would wear disposable armour then…

Overal, I loved the event.

I really liked hunting for the ghosts, figuring out where to go next (I had turned of chat at one point because I didn’t want spoilers!) I only had to look up the last location as I had never been to Sparkfly Fen (yet I’ve been lvl80 for a few weeks already :P)

I loved the maze! Though, it would have been more fun if you hadn’t had access to the mini-map. Using that sometimes felt a bit like cheating. It was a fun place to get extra candy, finish that Huntin’, carving and event achievement and to just go on a mindless killing spree.

I don’t care about PvP, so those two PvP areas I looked at, found them not bad, but still didn’t care for them.

I hated the clocktower. It’s an awesome jumping puzzle, but putting a puzzle of that category in a temporary content update was just … let’s just say, I didn’t approve :P But, I read that Josh is sorry, so I forgive him. Provided that tower will come back in the regular game!

The three crafted weapons are nice, but their price is too steep. Half the required amount of ingredients and they’d still be hard but also possible to get for the players who don’t farm 24/7. I did stock up on the required materials for the Forge, in case I ever do get the money I need to buy the wine, but I have no idea when I even have the money for the first stage (getting the recipe), let alone the second (Gift) and third (weapon).

Lastly, the chests… I think ANet made a mistake there. The fact that you could get rare skins out of those chests, nothing wrong with that. The fact that the drop rate was abysmal, yes, there is something wrong with that.
We also had those personalized ToT bags and the standard ToT bags. They could have put them all together.

Standard ToT bags: drop rate of the three rare skins: 0.01%
Personalized ToT bags: drop rate of the three rare skins; 0.1%
Black Lion Chest: drop rate of the three rare skins: 1%

Then something that isn’t really Halloween related but more general event related: town clothes.

We really need a way to store town clothes at the least, the ability to re-get town clothes without having to pay for it again would be better.

I got both the Witch’s Costume and the Mad King’s one. I also got some horns from the Shop. And I already had some baseball caps. And now I also got that Witch’ kittenfrom the Mad King’s Party. I’m running out of characters that can wear those extra town clothes…

Something like the pet collection tab would be nice for the town cloth collection tab…

Post here if you GAVE UP on the Clocktower!

@Josh

It really bothers me to hear that the jumping puzzle was a mistake and that in the future these types of things won’t be implemented.

did you actually read what he said?

I’m not going to stop making difficult stuff like this, they just won’t be so prominent in the future.

He just said he won’t put those difficult jumping puzzles in temporary, social, content, anymore…

I for one am heartened by his response. I would love to try this puzzle again. But not when I also want to try other temporary available content. I really love the maze, but I also love to fill my achievements. Which I will not be able to do now…

So, let’s hope there will be another jumping puzzle for Wintersday (presuming there will be a wintersday!) that is of the same quality build-wise, but a bit easier to do by the masses difficulty-wise.

you can buy the recipe for less than the wine…

Yes, right now. But even the recipe price is too high for me. So, I want to make sure I do have the ingredients for the recipe so that when I do have the money to buy the wine, I can check the the prices on the TP. If they are still lower than the wine, I’ll buy a recipe from the TP, if they are higher, I do have the mats to make my own.

Did Guild Wars 1 have any event for Christmas or new year holidays?

in Halloween Event

Posted by: LadyRhonwyn.2501

LadyRhonwyn.2501

Christmas and Newyear event is kind of merged into what became known as Wintersday.

In GW1 Wintersday is a human festival where the Gods Grenth and Dwayna battle it out like an epic Ground Hogs Day to see how long Winter Lasts. Grenth of course trying to prolong the length of Winter while Dwayna tries to make Spring come sooner. The whole event ending with a finale that awarded players with hats depending on the God of your server district.
<snip>
I think we’re all keeping four fingers crossed for a similarly epic Wintersday Festival for GW2. Halloween has definitely set the bar pretty high for Anet in my opinion. We may also get a ‘Mini’ festival for the American Thanksgiving, but not sure if that’ll be in the cards.

Problem with Wintersday is that the gods have gone… As Wintersday always was a battle between gods, will it now be a battle between two missing gods? I really am curious what they’ll do with it!

I don’t see the love with mounts some people have… Are you invincible when you’re on a mount? Sounds very boring to me… Only steering…. Whenever I walk across a map, I’ll follow the main road, attack a critter now and again, follow a DE, mine that ore, chop that tree, pull those roots… And before I know it, I’m at my destination (or somewhere completely different, but that’s because I usually forget what I was doing :P)

What ppl mean by end game is vertical progression in gear… simple as that .

Glad I’m not ppl then… But a person who simply doesn’t care about vertical progression in gear.

I rather like the fact that GW2 doesn’t have that vertical progression. Now that I finally reached lvl80 (I would have been fine if the max was again 20 btw) I can really look for the nice looking armour, without worrying about if it has max stats or not.

Though, there isn’t enough horizontal progression. The amount of armour and weapon skins in the game are a bit on the low side… Yes, there are a lot of them, but in case of armours, 2/3rd you can’t wear because they’re a different armour class. The same about weapons (though, I don’t know the percentage you can’t use).

And I love some of the light armours which my ranger will never be able to get…

(if one wish would be granted, it would be the opportunity to transmute looks from all armour weights to all other armour weights…)

Don’t have an exotic armour (can’t afford it)
And I hate “playing the TP”. I’ll just put my stuff up there so I can sell for a decent profit (so not the merchant+1!) and I buy from there for a price I think is nice (personal use only)

I also bought some gems way back (wish I had bought more then!)

im interested to see how this is going to work since what you get from those chests were things like gathering tools, boosters and tonics or other garbage you can pick up for nothing, so if we could trade the tools for example why not just buy some from a vendor and say kitten i got these in a chest.

and given the amount you get, i wonder how ripped off the conversions will be, like i opened 20+ chests and have 30ish tonics, how many tonics would be needed to get something. this idea while im grateful is being looked at seems like it needs to be well thought out this time.

and given the last screw up im a little more cynical this time around, understandably.

Did you even look at those items you got from the chest? They’re mostly (if not all) account bound and thus can’t be sold.

Those picks/axes/sickles can’t be bought either as they are a special kind (Black Lion kind)

Is this really what you wanted from an MMO?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LadyRhonwyn.2501

LadyRhonwyn.2501

The game is aimed at the PvP crowd and then the supercasual Facebook gamers.

Let’s start with this.

I hate PvP. And I hate those simple Facebook games.

So, that is out of the way.

But GW2 is exactly what I wanted in a MMO.

1. I’m not required to keep on upgrading my gear past a certain point. I can focus on how I want to look. And if I find an item which I like in the looks department, but don’t like in the stats department, well, I’ll just transfer that look onto an item where I don’t like the looks of, but rather prefer the stats.

2. I’m not required to party up with strangers to even get some basic things done. I can still party with friends if I want to, but nobody is forcing me. Yet I do come across players in the wild wild world (luckily not too often, otherwise it would feel like a park instead of a wilderness!)

3. I love the crafting system, though I wouldn’t have minded if it were more difficult to max (not by implementing a “failed to craft” system!). No idea how, but I sometimes think it’s too easy (especially the weapons and armour crafters are too much copy/paste).

4. But most of all, I love the environments, especially in combination of the dynamic events. Something I (or any other player) do can change the environment (for a while). I simply love to explore the world. And returning to already visited places only to find them in a different state from what I’ve seen before because some other player did (or didn’t do) something.

Naturally, there are snakes in this paradise as well, but for me, most of those are my fellow players. I especially don’t like people who only play for the coin/karma/XP reward. They will start an event and then won’t stick around to finish it because they can get more coin if they have 3 bronze instead of 1 gold reward. Or those that will stick with only one or two events because those are “easy” and “profitable”. They ruin those events for the rest of the player base that would like a challenge.

Crafting is not worth doing until level 400 because most people are 80 by now, also just by doing crafting you level so fast that you will need the next armor.

Not if you don’t do it all at once… And that is only possible if you farm the required items with one character and hand them to the other. Or buy all materials on the TP.

So you have to do effort NOT to level

Well, I do agree that you level too fast, but unless you farm for the required materials on another character, you’ll need those levels to get the materials for the next tier.

(is it me, or is the quoting bugged? I sometimes get the “quote” button and sometimes only the “permanent link” one… Oh well, manually then…)

Cayden.4587:

The first thing that seemed like a great idea and turned out to not work for me was the step away from tank/healer/dps or the “unholy trinity” as ANET liked to call it. Unfortunately it has become painfully clear to players that it is actually the “holy trinity” and allows for organized and streamlined game play that can focus on teamwork and environment without the need for a lot of groups to end up resorting to face rolling through dungeons by just having a constant stream of people dying and running back.

You really expect all players to know all ins and outs of their class within the first 2 months of release? Come back in a few months and see how much things have improved as people will start to really know the strengths and weaknesses of their class.

Cayden.4587:

The second thing that seemed like a great new feature and turned out to be disastrous is the downed state. While the idea of this was interesting and effectively made everyone a “healer” it ended up not working that way in game. The biggest effect of this was in WvW where the ability for people to rebound because someone they had hit was killed caused fights to just become ridiculous. In PvE this was also not really a great feature as it just added another phase of dying. It didn’t really make the game easier and also caused people to flock to the downed person to heal them which would often result in an aoe wiping the party.

The same here. You can already see a smarter technique for reviving. Where people would rush to a defeated player, they now break off a revive attempt if they’re under attack. They also start to go for the downed player instead of the defeated one.

Cayden.4587:

The third thing I thought was going to be good but turned out to be bad was no Raids and Dungeon gear being cosmetic only. For people who don’t know it takes about 2 days to farm enough gold to buy a full set of exotics in any stat configuration. It takes about the same time running dungeons to get 1 piece of exotic gear from a dungeon in the same stat configuration. This made two problems, 1 there was no real motivation to run dungeons and 2 it only took 2 days to go from fresh 80 to fully geared 80(minus legendary but come on w/e). The lack of raids added with this lack of gear progression made it so that people had literally zero motivation to run PvE other than to farm different currencies.

They said from the very start that dungeon gear would be cosmetic only. It’s one of the hallmarks of ANet: NO gear progression… So, no idea where you got the idea to the contrary…

Why did you guys buy GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LadyRhonwyn.2501

LadyRhonwyn.2501

Here’s my story:

Long ago, in a time far far away…

Seven years ago, I had some colleagues that started talking about this MMO, called Guild Wars. Well, I don’t care about PvP, so I ignored them. But what they said had nothing to do with PvP so, as I some (free, as it was a gift) money to spend, I bought the CE. I had never played any MMO or any online game beside some LAN games. But I was hooked from the first minute on.

Fast forward some years. ANet announced they would make a new Guild Wars game. One that would have an open world. One that would have something called dynamic events. One that would have gathering and crafting. One that you could also play with friends from across the world.
By this time I had a bit more experience with MMO’s, not so much by playing (I did play Aion) but more due to reading. And I had already wondered what the world of Tyria would be if it had been open. And I always wanted to pick those flowers and swim those rivers…. And craft my own stuff instead of giving some stuff to an armour crafter who would do it for me.

So, I waited. And waited. And waited…

I had seen some gameplay videos when they released them. And I started to wonder if it was really a game for me. The more I saw and the more I read, the more I started doubting. Until the GamesCom in Cologne in 2010(?) when they had their first playable demo. I played it.
And fell in love within the first minute after setting foot in Tyria. I felt lost! I wanted to see, feel, taste, hear! It felt good! That demo could be played for 50 minutes and you had to leave the station. I swear, I could only play 5 minutes!

I was hooked all over again. But from this way forward, I didn’t watch youtube, I didn’t read the blogs that were about the game itself. Yet again, I started to doubt. The information that did get my eyes again made me wonder. So much time had passed between that demo and now, a lot of things had been changed, not everything for the good, etc…

But then the press beta arrived earlier this year. And I was invited on a press account. And from that moment on, all my doubts were erased. I knew then, that whatever they’d say and write and show, I’d love this game. That this would be the game for me, a game I could play for a long time. Actually, ever since that second press beta weekend, I started playing Guild Wars less… Nothing else had been able to do that since that September day in 2005, when I bought my first GW CE…

Is the game perfect? No, not by a long shot. There are still a lot of bugs, flaws and missing stuff. But, it’s still great. And that’s good enough for me. I have faith in ANet that they will cut down the bugs, remove the flaws and add the missing stuff. And do more things I can’t even imagine right now.

Alittle upset not having Heros...Cant mulibox to play alone either..?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LadyRhonwyn.2501

LadyRhonwyn.2501

Yes. Those multiboxing now appear to be bots and gold farmers. Which is against the policies of the game.

Personally I actually like the style of play the game has now. I never liked the henchmen model and am very glad to see t gone. Even though you do see elements of it left in your personal stories.

The heroes and henchies had their uses in GW1. If I didn’t want to wait for hours to do some hunting, I’d take my AI friends, as my RL friends couldn’t join me halfway my excursion.

In GW2, they would add nothing. I’ve not come across an area yet where I didn’t meet any other RL person. And if I start something, nothing is forcing me to finish it. I might not get the full reward if I walk away from a DE that turns out to be over my head, but I will get a reward as long as I did pitch in.

And if my friend starts an hour after I went on excursion, well, nothing will stop him from joining me, no matter where I am (as long as he can reach the area, naturally…)

Yes, and that’s by design… If they would change that, they would have to change the entire concept on which GW2 was built…

I like the post about the dynamic events… Yes, they are “dynamic”. If you wander around the world, you’ll see events popping up without you having to do something. But, I agree, they’re not dynamic in execution and that would make it awesome.

And as long as people only want the best loot and the fast way to get money and won’t relax to smell the roses, the lower areas will always be more empty than the top areas.

I don’t have the solution, but I certainly do miss those days of forced grouping for the social aspect.

I don’t like that forced grouping at all. It would mean I can’t play according to my own schedule. What if I only have 30 minutes to play and have to spend 20 minutes of those to search for a group and then 10 minutes to decide what to do?

We do have the forced groupings for the dungeons and I think that’s enough.

I party daily with a friend. The major advantage of having an “official” party is that you can see where your party members are and you have an extra chat option (easier to switch to than whispers :P). I can also see when he’s in trouble when we’ve moved away from each other for a bit (I go left, he goes right, both working on the same heart/DE).

For me, parties are for friends, and the rest is for strangers you meet on the way and happen to go your way as well. Maybe you’ll start talking and a friendship will form. But that’s not mandatory and at the end you’ll each go your own way.

There’s one thing that I feel is a bit “unsocial”. And that’s the use of local chat. If you’re doing the same DE, even though you’re not in the same “party”, you can still use the local chat to converse with each other…. Most DE’s are too quiet in chatter…

This is getting highly annoying. And this is from a person which has a very high tolerance level of anything ANet does (or is slow in doing).

Solution seems so simple: go to Queensdale, to the farm that’s constantly under attack by bandits. And start banning. (that’s one location I noticed is beset by botters). There are more locations like that (the botters I reported yesterday have moved on to Kessex and the botters from friday are now in Gendarran and Frostgorge).

I haven’t seen gold sellers in a week, but they don’t annoy me half as much as these botters do. They make the events almost impossible to do.

1. I’ll tell everybody to block that person I just blocked, considering I only block gold spammers…

5. Good, I can talk politics then without being a hooligan! (not being a gentleman)

6. I will tell people to stop shouting, because it’s highly annoying when people type in all-caps. Besides, I find it more friendly to say: “you don’t need to shout” then “don’t type in all caps”. It delivers the message better.

8. If I ever do get into WvW, I most certainly won’t be helping my team. I don’t want to go there, I must go there to complete my 100% (unless they have changed it by the time I have reached that last percent).

The rest I agree upon but I also think that they are normal behaviour…. Any sane thinking and decently raised person would think those “rules” are normal….

GUESTING

I agree. Without guesting this game loses the most important part GW1 offered: the ability to play with all your friends, no matter where they lived.

I really would like to hear some more news about the guesting….

Anyone else still having a blast?

I love the game. I hate, absolutely, hate, ANet’s way of destroying friendships that have been formed over the last 7 years. There is still no news, at all, about guesting. Without which our guild is slowly falling apart, my friendlist is purely a chat client and I really miss the cooperation in this magnificent Coop RPG.

Switching servers to play with other guild members isn’t an option as the second half (NA) of our guild is on a Full server. So, even if they switched to our EU side, they might have troubles moving back to their NA server. And don’t even consider the amount of influence lost if we actually do decide to go on once server only.

Beside that silly server problem (which shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place if guesting had been working from day one), I adore the game.

ANet created a very nice world, where I love to roam.
