So, essentially what you are asking for is a way to have options like “Receive Whispers”:

  • From All
  • From Friends and Guild Members
  • From Friends
  • None

This seems like a reasonable feature request.
If Player A is on Player B’s friends list, but Player B isn’t on Player A’s friends list, how does that interaction work out?

Would this also extend out to things like mail?

(Please note this does not mean that this will happen, won’t happen, is planned to happen, and or not planned to happen)

I think a better option would be to treat this like the way guild chat used to be treated. When you changed your guild rep, the current guild chat disappeared from the chat window. When you changed your rep back, the chat came back.

For this sort of issue, if you block someone, the game should just remove any received whispers (and let’s toss in emote spam, too!) from the chat window that came from that person. If you unblock them, the chat text should reappear.

Can’t you see the direction they’re taking? They want to encourage people to spend gems for in game gold more and MORE because they’re getting desperate.

Why do people keep saying this? When you buy gems for converting to gold, you’re not buying the gold from Anet, you’re buying it from other players. You’re buying it from players who are selling their gold for your gems. The overall supply of gold is going down. That gold you “buy” with gems is also drying up. It will reach a point where you can’t buy gold with gems because no one will be selling gold for gems. Anet’s not going to be making any money then (well, except for new outfits, gathering tools, etc). Anet is not selling gold, they are facilitating a transaction between you and another player (at an aggregate level) and taking a monetary cut. The gold you’re buying with your gems is gold already in circulation, farmed out a dungeon months ago. It’s not “new” gold (created by the game).

And prices going up? They’ll come crashing down eventually because no one will have the gold to afford anything (and what little gold is left will be substantially more valuable). Anet is in “drain” mode right now. They feel there is too much gold in circulation. This is why the supply of gold (dungeons) has been effectively removed and gold sinks (guild halls come to mind) have been introduced. They are draining gold from the economy. Eventually, when the overall level of gold has dropped to the level they feel comfortable with, they’ll have to turn on a spigot somewhere (I’d guess fractal rewards) so that the amount of gold coming into the game (rewards) balances with the amount of gold going out (sinks) and the overall amount of gold in circulation can be stabilized at this new (lower) level.

Stop gating map completion with events

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

It’s rapidly becoming impossible to ‘do what you want, when you want’ and this game now feels more ‘log in after checking event timer, get lucky with lfg into good map, get lucky completing long boring meta event and maybe you have a chance at people sticking around to complete HP’s , POI’s, etc before map shuts again’.

Add that to the fact that my brain hurts as soon as I step foot in TD and map completion has gone from being fun to being next to impossible and/or tedious.

Anyone who says’ look for an event, etc’ bear in mind a lot of people can only log on for an hour or two a couple times a week, they aren’t wedded to the game.

What you said here is true. A lot of people can only log in for an hour or two every couple of weeks. But no game company can make games aimed at those people. It’s not a reasonable expectation.

Try re reading what I said. An hour or two . A couple of times a week. That’s pretty much most games target audience. Add in a couple more times a week and that’s your average game player.

You play 2 to 4 hours a week. The average MMO time investment is 22 hours per week. When the average is 5-10 times more investment than you’re able to put into it, I’m afraid you don’t seem to be a part of that target audience.

I’m completely fine with Berserker being needed, and Sinister being needed.

I’m not fine with needing to step down from my Herald Zerker, when my group needs condition damage, because Sinister Revenant isn’t viable, compared to Sinister Engineer.

I am fine with zerker.
I am fine with sinister.

I am not fine with 80% of your team must be zerker or sinister. As it is an absolute MUST.

That’s every MMO. In 40 player WoW raids you have around 2 or 3 tanks, 5 or 6 healers, and 31 to 33 DPS. That’s 78% to 83%% DPS. Sounds about like the 80% DPS requirement of Guild Wars 2. You’re not going to “tank” something to death and you sure as heck aren’t going to heal it to death. You kill things by doing damage to them.

There is no solution to your problem to be found in any MMO (at least not any MMO that involves killing things).

Also, you’re confusing “DPS” with Berserker or “Zerk”. Sinister and Viper aren’t Berserker. One puts more emphasis on condition damage and the other splits it between condition and power damage. Berserker has no condition damage at all.

There is “power damage” and there is “condition” damage. There is “upfront” damage and there is “over time” damage. What other type of damage are you hoping for?

You bring DPS to a raid because the goal of the raid is to damage the boss until he is dead. Anything else is secondary. In MMOs with a traditional trinity, the tank and healers are there to support the DPS. The healers keep the tank alive so the tank can keep the aggro and the DPS can do their job.

That red bar over every mob’s head is a health bar. You need to decrease the amount of red to 0 to win. This is what DPS does. If your role is DPS and you are not wearing optimized DPS gear then you should not be there, period.

There is no such thing as “balance” between “doing all the DPS in DPS gear and doing all the DPS in healing gear.” That’s not possible. That’s not possible any more than it’s possible to hammer a nail with a feather.

If you want to bring your nomads to a raid and “do DPS” you are delusional. There is something fundamentally wrong with your critical thinking skills.

Anet, please make the Are You Ready? squad dialog something you must manually click rather than just pressing Enter. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been trying to talk in squad and hitting Enter as the leader asks for a ready check just accepts the Enter as “I’m ready”, keeps the chat bar from opening, and (if any word I’m trying to type has “r” in it) I start running forward. This is incredibly annoying.

Please make this dialog only usable by mouse click!

I found a way to get up to the canopy without a chopper. It seemed pretty legit because there wasn’t any hard jumps and there was just coincidentally a trail of updrafts. However, I thought to get up there you needed choppers. I wasn’t sure if this was true or not. So my question is, is it legit or not? Do you need to have a chopper to get up there?

I think you’ve answered your own question. No, you don’t need a chopper to get up there. And yes, it’s completely legitimate. This is the kind of exploration Anet meant when they said Masteries would allow you to explore areas you’d otherwise not be able to get to.

My guild has about 10 active players. We’re level 21 with the PvP arena. I think it’s easier to get people to put in the effort when you’re smaller and everyone knows that their individual contribution matters. If you dilute the pool of workers too much, it’s easy for any given person to fall into the trap of “someone else will do it.” Enough people get into that frame of mind and you end up with a handful of people unfairly burdened with most of the effort (you may even get no one doing anything).

Anet pushed fractals as “the new dungeons” — content open to anyone. What they gave us are fractals that are even more “hardcore” than they ever were. The equipment you need to get into them is more prohibitive to get, you have to grind masteries, and if you deviate from the dailies, at all, for any reason, you lose about 1/3 of the money you put in unlocking encryptions (unless, of course, you buy keys with matrices).

This is embarrassing.

(I was doing level 50s before HoT, I’m not complaining about it not being made “easier” for me, I’m complaining about the changes being … confusingly poor.)

How do I make gold now?

Land of Cheese.2584

I usually don’t like people who complain about “play how you want to play”… but seriously though, what happened to “play how you want to play”?

Ultimately I’m unaffected as I’m mostly a TP flipper for cash and only did SW chest runs intermittently.

And this is where you are oh so wrong. Gold is being sucked out of the game at an alarming rate via sinks. You “make money” doing your TP flipping because other people have gold to buy your items with. The gold is leaving the game, people have less and less gold to spend. You are absolutely impacted.

This is exactly what ANet wants. If Gold has more value, people are willing to spend gems (real money) for gold conversion. Buying and converting today means that your value of your real life money is worth just as much (or more) than when you spent it to get the gold.

TP flipping is a reduction of gold in the economy and extremely beneficial at the macro economic level. However, TP flipping is not without a lot of risk because there is virtually no inhibitor for the next guy/gal to undercut you by 1c and you lose the sale.

I’m not giving an opinion or what that means. It’s just reality.

The gold you buy with gems is being bought from other players. It’s not gold that’s just magically created when you give Anet your cash. It’s bought from players who are using gold to buy gems. You are selling your gems to them for their gold. If there’s no gold in the economy, the buying and selling of gems (and the buying and selling of gold) goes down the tubes, too.

Anet said it would all be account bound. Making them obtainable by “running around” while avoiding market impact is achieved by “Account Bound on Acquire.”

I don’t understand what their economist is thinking. I understand wanting to tweak the economy but he really needs to put more thought into things. Any tweaking needs to be done in a way that avoids losing customers.

You see, in Real Life™, as long as I am alive, I am forced to participate in the Real Life™ economy. I have to have a job, I have to pay taxes, I have to eat, and I have to live somewhere. But in a video game, I can just disengage completely when “The Great Recession” hits. Saying there will be “tough times”(*) is the wrong approach. Tweaking the economy so “times aren’t so tough” while still getting to the end goal is what’s called for.

I don’t know which way Anet would go with this, but the only way to keep the overall benefit at least somewhat close to the intent of 50% is to raise the effect to either 65% or 70% (75% gives you the same result as 70%).

At 65%, the average benefit is to increase duration by 44%. At 70%, the average benefit is to increase duration by 61%. This is because of how the game rounds boon duration down.

If you set PU at 65% you get +33% to Decoy, +50% to Veil, +33% to The Prestige, and +60% to Mass Invisibility.

If you set PU at +70% you get +67% to Decoy, +50% to Veil, +67% to The Prestige, and +60% to Mass Invisibility.

The current +50% “benefit” the trait provides only gives you +33% to Decoy, +50% to Veil, +33% to The Prestige, and only +40% to Mass Invisibility.

Personally, I think increasing it to 70% (or 75%, the same thing) is the sweet spot.

PU Mesmer Video

Since boons don’t last fractional seconds, and Anet’s code rounds down, the “new PU” is exactly the same as the old PU in duration with the exception of adding 2 seconds to Mass Invisibility rather than the 1 second of yore.

PU has the following impacts:
Decoy: From 3 seconds to 4 seconds (50% of 3 is 1.5, 1.5 rounded down is 1).
Veil: From 2 seconds to 3 seconds (50% of 2 is 1, no rounding applied).
The Prestige: From 3 seconds to 4 seconds (50% of 3 is 1.5, rounded down is 1).
Mass Invisibility: From 5 seconds to 7 seconds (50% of 5 is 2.5, rounded down is 2).

The effect of this change, at least from a stealth perspective, is put PU, basically, exactly where it was before the big trait revamp. It is, once again, not worth using. It’s gone the way of Fiery Greatsword, Ice Bow, and any other “OP” treat players have enjoyed that’s been nerfed into oblivion.

Here’s the caveat: I don’t want to make one of each. Saying “why not try both?!” will lead me to having two classes to spread my attention, and most likely will discourage me.

I think this is a personal issue you’re going to have to come to terms with on your own. A bunch of different opinions on the forums from other people isn’t going to give you a feel for how it plays to you. For example, I strongly disagree with the poster above me who feels elementalist is a lot of fun. I can’t stand the class. It was my second level 80, my first in full ascended everything, and my first in fractals. And I regret the time I sunk into it.

(Note: I don’t think it’s somehow wrong to enjoy an elementalist, it’s just not for me. So, guy above me, no offense intended!)

Anyway, you mention “divided attention,” that’s a temporary problem. Once you feel you enjoy one over the other, drop the one you don’t like and voila, no more divided attention.

The best advice you’re going to get is, “why not try both?!”

I’m not talking about AFK’ing (no words in my mouth, please!). I’m saying that at Mai Trin, spending so much time running around avoiding cannons without fighting anything is boring. I’m saying that at Claw of Jormag, having the boss AE fear every 5-10 seconds is boring.

Anet needs to have come up with better mechanics to make the fights challenging and interesting. No, running around during cannon phase at Mai Trin isn’t interesting. No, chain fear at Claw isn’t interesting. Both encounters suffer from bad design.

I don’t get the point of using LFG to advertise your home instance. The only people that care about it are going to be in the city looking to complete a gathering daily. Just use Map chat and advertise to the people who actually may be interested in the service.

Before someone says “but what about people in other instances of the same city?” I’m sure there’s someone with a full home in their instance, too. They don’t need to use yours specifically.

At any rate, maybe I don’t use LFG often enough. I’ve never seen anything advertised for sale there other than Arah paths and Fractals.

On a side note, I wish ANet would add a “Looking for Guild” channel that people can turn on and off. The recruiting spam is getting intolerable.
