Oh please. A casual, unless leveling up, should be earning at least half a gold per hour doing almost anything.

Don’t exaggerate.Half a gold is about 25 greens or 50 blues (give or take a bit). Where are you getting that much loot?

Rares don’t count obviously, since they aren’t dropping anywhere near the rate they used to (probably 1/1000th or less of the pre-nerf rate).

I think the keyword there is “should”. If you’re not leveling up, not salvaging stuff and selling everything, like myself, between mobs, junk and farming mats, if one goes like hell, especially in low level zones where there are lots of things that die quite readily. I can take down a mob of 5 or 10 “1-15” level creatures in seconds with a couple +1300 CD AOEs (Very little condition damage resistance at those levels). Even junk adds up quickly at that rate. Half a gold in an hour would have been EASY before the Nov 15th patch. Now it might take 2 or 3 hours…and that all assuming I never get a rare or a dye (Which I ALWAYS check, just to make sure), which still do drop once in a very long time. If you’re just farming for gold…until they fix the drop rate, well…if they if it…this is by far the fastest way to get it…unless you want to play the market. You’re not going to make gold like this in high level areas like Orr, but people are there to farm mats more than gold.

Im thinking support really doesnt have a single clue about this issue… or.. are told not to say anything about the issue other than “sorry, bad luck, we dont care.”

Personally, I think it’s more the latter. I think management has essentially gagged them on the issue and told them to keep it out of high-profile threads. That’s really the only explanation that makes sense , especially given the heavy handed moderation and immediate locking of threads that might bring a lot of attention to the issue.

Right now they’re just playing the waiting game. I honestly think that they believe that once all those who played before the Nov 15h update have quite out of sheer frustration that things will just move along swimmingly. In reality, they’re disillusioned in that the drop rates are so bad and the TP so expensive that even newbie players won’t last long before getting frustrated. Over the next couple months, I estimate this will become a common topic of conversation regarding this game on game news sites and magazines…it won’t get fixed until they see it affecting their sales, at which point it will be far too late and most of us will have moved on to other things.

Except that buying from the tp is getting more and more expensive, due bad drops.

The trading post has gotten stupid!!!! If one purchased all the required materials (Well those that are purchasable) rather than spending months farming, what would Sunrise cost in real world to make with the current price of things…$1000+perhaps Dawn alone was 510 gold last time I checked… which is roughly $510 since money to gold is nearly at 1:1. How long would it take for an average player to collect 1000 gold in game? I’m not talking about the single 20ish somethings who are content to spend every waking moment playing the game, grinding the same events over and over again, I’m talking about the majority of us who also have real lives to live. Months and months, perhaps over a year or longer. Considering I average less than a gold a day, quite often substantially less, with the current drop rates, I will never be able build a legendary. Cost/drop-rate/time simply won’t allow for it. Before the drop nerf, one could get a legendary with a fair bit of work, however, getting the required stuff is so expensive/difficult that a legendary is essentially impossible for most of us. I had when games put in impossible tasks.

Anyone know if mystic clover return rate has also been nerfed?

I have high hopes the patch which brings us the Winter Event will have hidden in it somewhere, the fix for this loot nerf.

NOT A CHANCE!!!! So much money flowing so freely around Christmas, they’re counting on a ton of traffic to the gem store as people buy their way to good gear/crafting. If and that’s a big IF they plan to revert this, it won’t be until after the Christmas money-spending season. I’d say mid-January at the earliest, to give people time to spend cash-gifts and gift cards.

Call me a tin-foil hat kind of guy, but I’m telling you the whole thing was planned in order to make people desperate and spend money in the gem store over Christmas. Is it going to have that effect? Probably not for many reading these threads, but it’ll probably be a huge windfall for ArenaNet/NCSoft as a whole.

I’ll continue to play the game since I’m already in a good position with gear/gold, but I’ll not be building alts as it’s now too expensive and too much grinding for good gear. I am seriously considering jumping to ESO when it comes out next year. I’m hearing it will most likely be subscription based, which I don’t really care for, but at least with a subscription some of these dirty financial tricks and market tampering go away.

ArenaNet could fix so many problems if they returned drop rates to normal and/or took away the open market trading post to control cost. I’m fine with the drop rates the way they are if it’s a closed marketplace with the cost of items set reasonably and static (c’mon, last time I looked it was 510 gold for Dawn!!!!! That is NOT reasonable). This also fixes crafting and helps with gold bots by keeping the cost of crafting materials low and not worth botting. As it stands, the TP is essentially broken almost dead to me anyway since I RARELY get anything I can actually sell on there and hardly ever buy anything as I have all the gear I need and it’s too expensive to level an alt now. Everything else, including whites and junk, I sell to in-game vendors to help cover the cost of way point travel and repairs.

I thought gw2 had systems in place to tell in incredibly depth what plays were doing and how they were getting on? And they cant see how many golds drop on average from mobs?

Sounds like this “report and we will look” is just a placebo/decoy to me.

Agreed. Same goes for bots. Any half decent coder should be able to write something to track down bots based on activity, especially these new teleporting bots. That should be a no-brainer, yet they have to rely on us to report them? Sounds fishy. Perhaps ArenaNet/NCSoft are running the gold vendors…hence the farming bots…through a side company…dual income!!! It would also explain why the bots can do things no one seems to be able to do.

Probably it’s just a coincidence that guildwars2.com and gw2gold.com both resolve to Texas addresses…

After all is said here, do you guys actually believe they will fix the drop rates this Friday? I think not so!

No, they will not fix the drop rates for Wintersday, if anything they’ll make them even worse, if that’s possible. This is the Christmas season and money flows like a raging river. They’ll be banking on the fact that some of that money will get diverted in to the gem store.

ok, the support ticket got a response … need to report this bug using the ingame bug reporting so QA get extra info. I’ll do that later today after doing pent/shelter/jofast events for a bit (think there is about 6-7 events associated with that area) so if it is DR they can tell me.

That’s just automated run-around. Wait for it…when you submit the in-game bug, you’ll get a message stating that due to the volume of submissions they receive, they simply cannot respond to everything.

Did some Orr farming for the first time in a while and averaged less than blue. TP has skyrocketing prices all because of this. Is this what the devs want?

Devs…no, I doubt it. Developers often are very attached to their applications and I’d be surprised if most of the devs weren’t as upset as the player base. It wouldn’t surprise me to see some devs resigning from ArenaNet over this…fat execs looking for a new yacht, telling the devs what to do…that’s where this is most likely coming from. They’re trying to ram-run people in to using the gem store…it’s that simple.

MMO companies seem to never realize how commited is the player community and how fast they can achieve even the hardest of challenges. After a lot of players started to advertize their new Legendary weapons, in a relatively short time after the game launch, they kind of panicked and hastly introduced the FoTM to keep the achievers entertained (achievers were the first to reach end-game and to get the Legendary skin). They were afraid about people leaving the game because of no challenges.

Now they should be even more worried about people leaving because there is no reward for effort. Many, many players, such as myself, are reward driven much more so than goal driven, which was a big draw for me in GW2. I don’t have time to grind and didn’t have to to feel as though I accomplished something. After Nov 15th, everything is about grind. I get off on finishing a tough event/fight and reaping the rewards…well now there is essentially no reward. As a casual player, while I do enjoy dungeons and long chain events, I don’t always have time for such things. Mind you with the rewards as they are, there seems little point in doing such things since regular mobs usually drop better loot than veterans/champions/bosses.

Unfortunately much of the open world seems to be dying, as people funnel in to specific areas such as FotM, dungeons and Orr. Why? It they seem the only places where one can make any decent coin or get good drops. Orr, while it is part of the open world, it is a different story, many are there to farm T5-T6 materials needed for making legendary weapons. I pity those people who aspire to make a legendary. Under these new loot scheme getting all the required material by farming alone will take at least 10-20 times longer (And probably longer than that) than pre-Nov 15th.

Back to open world adventuring…even in Orr, where people do tend to congregate, although I understand there is less congregation since the loot changes, it’s hard to find a group who is willing to help with menial things like skill points…it’s all about about events and farming. I find myself often trying to hit-n-run skill points using pets/minions to distract mobs hopefully long enough to get the point. Unfortunately, this is not possible in all cases.

The areas I find most affected by population problems are the 40-60 level areas, especially now. Many simply leave the game before ever reaching level 40 and that number will only increase with the increased difficulty in leveling, heavy focus on the gem store, lack of rewards and the sheer frustration that causes.

The entire crafting, loot system, gem store and trading post is broken and corrupt. Artificially manipulating the marketplace like this would be considered fraud in the real world. Crafting is essentially dead as a result because T5-T6 mats are now so scarce and expensive that crafting is a waste of time. If they want a pure micro-payment-type economy common in some of the free MMOs…$2 for this piece of armor, $8 for this weapon, or even just straight gold for money…which seems the direction they’re pushing, then just do it and tell everyone. Then in this case, IMO ALL listings should be returned to the respective sellers, the TP should be shut down for player trading so that players can ONLY sell to in-game vendors, which in turn increases TP stock and prices are controlled from skyrocketing. GW2 should also be free to play in a pure micro-payment system. At $60 to buy, I didn’t sign up for a money sink. At least, then people would know where they stand.

problem is WoT’s dev wargaming is FAR MORE “HONEST” , STRAIGHTFORWARD and BLATANT about their schemes :
1.if they plan to nerf several tanks income, they’ll POST it in detail in their future patch notes.
2.they even purposedly introduced the “increase income details if u buy premiums window” in battle details.
3.if u wanna grind cash, u’ll have to buy $50-$60 premium tanks (yes its one tank not a one new game)
4.at least when u spend real money for buying gold there its not based on any RNG
5.u dun like it?like their devs said openly GTFO and play another game!

At least they’re honest about it, one might not like it, but I can at least respect it. No secret-squirrel ninja-nerfs.

I’ve being doing DEs and champions all day yesterday in Cursed Shore and both priest of Grenth and Melandru’s chests and the Risen High Wizard’s one gave only blues and 1 green (run them all 2 times at least).
While i had multiple greens and 3-4 yellows dropping from common mobs.
While doing the champions i died multiple times and got little reward for the effort in comparison to just kill what was on my path going from A to B, so there is really no point and involvement for me in doing those events any more.

Also in the Cursed Shore, 3-4 yellows in a single session is unheard of for me. Lately, I’m lucky if I get a single yellow in a week of play, ALWAYS from a regular mob though. Same goes for greens, but boss chests will “sometimes” drop a green. Porous bones abound aplenty though. In the 3 weeks, or so, I’ve been playing Orr, the ONLY rare crafting material I’ve gotten was a Pile of Putrid Essence, of which I’ve gotten 2. I don’t know how people get loadstones…must grind-farm relentlessly for hours upon hours. Tier 6 mats (Basic/Fine) are very rarely dropped from mobs and are mostly acquired from moldy bags found when farming ore/wood/plants and salvage

Everyone should be replying on the “bugs” thread, to keep it alive and on the front page of bugs, not this discussion, which probably has very little traffic from ANet staff, other than the forum moderator. “Bugs” is likely the forum that is most closely monitored by ANet and most often visited by players. Only two pages of posts there, but still no reply, which is still obscene. I’d like to see this discussion merged in to the bug as that’s where it properly belongs, but that would make ANet look very bad.

Anyone have any idea who does the testing before they release a patch so that there might be a hint of what’s coming? Many people are asking what they are planning to do for dec 14th. If there will be fixes involved for both the classes and loot issues.

Any word?

Perhaps it IS them trying to get the TP under control, as DevonPaul theorizes. If this is the case, they really need to let the player community know what’s going on. A lot of players are feeling extremely alienated by this issue and ANets silence is only fueling the fire. Until then, my opinion is that the loot issue isn’t a bug or they would have acknowledged it by now…it’s dirty business…nothing more.

Something that irks me about the whole situation is that this is nominated for Game of the Year and has a good chance of winning. A few weeks ago, I might have agreed…now, not a chance. I’ve updated the required components for Skyrim, last year’s GotY…a game that actually deserved the title, and as I write this, I’m downloading the expansions and HD pack and will move to that tomorrow…after it spends 8 hours downloading over my crappy connection.

I think I’m done. I’ll still participate in “guild night” when I have time, but I’m moving to a new game. The reward in this game just isn’t there anymore. The only enjoyment left are the jumping puzzles and guild runs. I played this game, 250+ hours, because it was casual-solo-friendly and one could level a player solo and get decent gear without needing to group up and do group-specific areas such as dungeons and bosses. That’s just not the case anymore since decent gear is all but impossible to get without dropping money in the gem store. Even group area/events generally give garbage returns. I was going to work toward map completion, but with the loot system totally broken and no response from ANet on the topic, it just seems like a lot of work for nothing. When a game becomes “work”, it’s time to move on. The Steam Christmas sales are coming after all. I’ll probably continue to monitor the situation and perhaps return to the game if they ever fix it.

I have a theory, what if they changed the amount of time it takes DR to reset (Obviously in the order of days, perhaps longer) AND changed it from being event bound to map, or even region, bound meaning that DR applies no matter where you are or what you are doing…so if you activate DR in one event, it’s still active for the next event, which in turn might diminish returns even more for the next event. That would explain why good loot runs are seemingly random, not tied to events and quite far between.

I still say it’s underhanded, sneaky and in total breach of what the game was advertized as when I bought it.

So how about it, Crystin? Instead of a flat zero from a growing percentage of your player base, I would hazard a guess that many of us now would grudgingly pay $15 a month to be free of you – to regain the fantastic freedom, and potential for Tyria re-imagined, that so many of us paid willingly for.
Unrestricted, as was promised and paid for by us.
Sound like a good thing to bolster your resume?

Not a flying chance in hell from me!!! I play this game specifically because there is NO monthly sub, I even bought the guide and gems to help support the game afterward. If I were willing to pay a monthly sub I would be not be playing this and be eagerly awaiting ESO to be released as the Elder Scrolls games are perhaps the best RPG games ever created IMO.

What the game is now is NOT what I bought and I will not succumb to extortion to get it back. I will stop playing before I pay a monthly fee and will not spend a single cent in the gem store until this is fixed.

I consider it nothing less than a dishonest cash grab. I get garbage from drops, if I want a legendary weapon, say The Bifrost, I have little choice but to buy gems and it will run about 700 gold by the time one buys and collects all the required materials, pays their dues to the mystic toilet and untold amounts of grinding in the required dungeon to collect the required tokens. Currently, a gold in the gem store translates to about a 1 dollar in the real world….$700 plus a ton of grinding to boot!?!?!?! NOT A CHANCE!!!

Here’s a thought, is it possible it also prorates drops based on the amount of gold you have? With 150+ gold in the bank, maybe it doesn’t think I need good drops. :/

Considering I normally have less than 10g in the bank (no more than 15G across the account), I don’t think so. Why so low? Using cash from selling gatherings to make 20 slot boxes so that when the loot gets fixed I wont have to run back and sell as often.

I’m just throwing out bones…NO WAIT…porous bones. :P

My “everything handed to them” comment was directed at those who want champs to ALWAYS drop rares with a good chance of dropping exotics.

They should, as should boss fights such as dragons and Melandru, but I did qualify, that it should only happen on the first time you fight them…then DM should either permanently apply (To that event ONLY) or at least have a very long reset (Week+), when redoing the event under DM, rare/exotic still has chance to drop, but a “normal mob chance”. The rewards for the time and effort that goes in to a boss/champion are not proportionate.

These are bosses and champions…it stands to reason they have GOOD gear. I consider this “bug” nothing more than a dishonest cash grab.

Directly because of this, other than “guild night”, I think I’m going to switch to Torchlight as my “regular” game and just check back on the forum once in a while to see if this has been fixed. Now I do have substantial gold in the bank, and have a full set of exotics (Most of which I bought before the Nov 15th nerf or shortly after the Lost shores event), so it’s not even really about money….but god help me if I want to start a new character…it’s just cost preventative. It’s about the game not working properly and getting appropriate reward for effort. With the length lack of any comment whatsoever, it’s becoming extremely apparent that this is nothing more than an explicit cash grab…I don’t need to play a game like that. Got frustrated will porous bones, played Torchlight for a couple hours the other night and quite enjoyed it. Not MMO, but that’s secondary for me and at least magic-find seems to work properly, was getting decent drops…and you know what…bosses actually dropped stuff!!!

Here’s a thought, is it possible it also prorates drops based on the amount of gold you have? With 150+ gold in the bank, maybe it doesn’t think I need good drops. :/

I did a greneth run last night for about an hour and half. In that time, between all the events, I got 3 rares. Drop rate seems fine to me.

Then you didn’t play there before november patch.

I didn’t play Orr before the November patch and the drop rates are still appalling for me. After many many hours of play over the 3 areas I’ve had one exotic and perhaps 5 rares drop from mobs/veterans/champion/chests.

It’s pretty par these days, on the EXTREMELY RARE occasion a champion drops something for me, it has never been better than a blue. I’m OK with diminishing returns if it functioning properly, but the first time you fight them, champs should always drop at least one rare with a high probability of an exotic.

DR=“Diminishing Returns”? It could very well be that this is broken and not resetting properly, however, with the notable silence from ANet, it makes me think the change was more intentional than not. Lowering drop rates like this breaks the marketplace, it breaks crafting. If they keep the drop rates like this, they have to do something to bring the marketplace in line.

For instance, currently it would take hours of farming to be able to afford to buy a single ecto on the market. Salvaging rares and exotics to get ecto is…well…let’s just say you need to get them first. “Very few drops”=“next to no salvage”=“pretty much no new ecto in the market”=“Skyrocketing price of ecto”=“Way too expensive to craft”

The net result is a non-functioning marketplace and crafting becomes nothing more than a means to power-level, which it is essentially now. Drop rates HAVE to be drastically increased to fix these critical game mechanics.

Well, I AM a reward/loot driven player and make no bones about it. Last night over the course of ~3 hours, in Cursed Shore I did the events up to Arah twice (First run failed) and did the Melandru events…totaling probably 6-8 champions, many veterans/normals and 2 area bosses…resulting in two big chests. Nothing better than a green, totaling probably less than 10s in loot. Don’t get me wrong, the grouping up was fun as were the events, but I can farm resources in low level areas for 30 minutes and make more than that…there’s something wrong here. Really…does anyone at level 80 running Cursed Shore wear white gear? Champions, ESPECIALLY unique bosses, should drop at least one rare with a good probability of getting an exotic. To get high level exotic gear or even rare…with rewards like currently exist (Since the November update) would takes months….and what’s with all the porous bones?…wholly flipping hell!!!

If you’re working toward a legendary…crack out the VISA because it’s the ONLY way you’re going to get the mats/gold you’re going to need, unless you grind 24/7 for the next 2 years.

I’m really starting to understand why people are resorting to bots…it’s becoming the only way to get anything good.

Whether the change was intentional or not, and I truly hope it wasn’t intentional, it looks incredibly bad on ArenaNet that they have not come out with any sort of official response yet. They are losing players because of this and that is HUGE. Run some of the big boss events in Orr and watch the frustration and comments people make about the drops they get?

I’m really considering moving on a new a game or limiting my champion/boss encounters to skill points for map completion only. Regular/world events involving champions/bosses currently just aren’t worth the time and effort. You could easily spend more on repairs/respawning to waypoints than you actually make on the event. Unfortunately, this really limits my desire to play the game. It took over an hour last night to put Melandru down, and we got lucky because it glitched, shortening the event…all for a meager two blue and a green item that weren’t even worth a silver each. You’re better off to hit-n-run events and take bronze rating.

they didn’t intentionally do anything, it’s just something made up to be negative about by people who are disappointed in the game for in my opinion the wrong reasons.

No, the drop algorithm changed mid-November…they even made a big announcement about it…champs with guaranteed drops, rares/exotics drop more often…all that jazz…none of it delivered on.

I obviously meant the decrease in drops that wasn’t intentional. :p

Intentional or not, and I truly hope it wasn’t intentional, it looks incredibly bad on ArenaNet that they have not come out with any sort of official response yet. They are losing players because of this and that is HUGE. Run some of the big boss events in Orr and watch the frustration and comments people make about the drops they get?

I’m really considering moving on a new a game or limiting my champion/boss encounters to skill points for map completion only. Regular/world events just aren’t worth the time and effort. You could easily spend more on repairs/respawning to waypoints than you actually make on the event. Took over an hour last night to put Melandru down, and we got lucky because it glitched, shortening the event…all for a meager two blue and a green item that weren’t even worth a silver each.

they didn’t intentionally do anything, it’s just something made up to be negative about by people who are disappointed in the game for in my opinion the wrong reasons.

If they’ve done it on purpose…they’ll not get another cent out of me and if they don’t fix it soon, I’m going to stop playing…I’ve gotten my $60 worth out of the game. I bought the guide and $60 worth of gems early on. I’m not in to grinding for no reward. There are less frustrating games…I still have to play the two Skyrim expansions, Darksiders 2, countless classic games I’ve been meaning to play…….

Well, I AM reward/loot driven and make no bones about it. Champions, ESPECIALLY unique bosses, should drop nothing less than a rare with a good probability of getting an exotic. To get high level exotic gear or even rare…with rewards like this would takes months….and what’s with all the porous bones?…wholly flipping hell!!!

To be clear, the issues in this thread include:

- loot quality increase from vet/champs doe snot seem to have occured
- guarenteed drops from champs has not occured (drops are extremely rare)
- vet drops are extremely rare
- overall drop quantity and quality is lower
- Magic Find drop quantity is lower
- Magic Find drop quality is more crafting materials (and items that give crafting materials), less of everything else.
- Lack of response from ANet on these issues.

Well summarized. While some would argue that since this affects everyone equally and that things aren’t technically broken that it’s not a bug, I’d argue it’s a serious bug that hurts the marketplace by disproportionately driving up the cost of rare/exotic gear and mats. The increased drop rate that was promised was supposed to lower prices that were already out of control. It also breaks game dynamics by making the fight against champions and veterans pointless and a waste of time. I’d add there’s seems to be disproportionate amount of garbage drops too. After doing a few events in Cursed Shore last night, or the night before, I had 44 porous skulls (Or whatever they are)…good for a few silver, but otherwise useless and pointless.

I tend to agree that the notable silence from Anet is disconcerting. Perhaps that indicates that they did indeed intentionally lower the drop rate to increase gem sales over Xmas. Unfortunately, if that is the case it’s pretty shady business and what’s happening is that it’s pushing the price of many things well beyond the point of reasonable…which is discouraging for the casual playing who can’t grind 7 hours a day. What’s ecto now…something like 40s per? OUCH!! Unless it’s fixed, we’ll see a lot of people quitting out of sheer frustration and a lot more farming bots. With these drops rates, legendary weapon become essentially impossible to get unless you sink a ton of money (Hundreds of dollars) in to the gem store.

I don’t think I’ve had a champ drop anything at all since the before the Lost Shores event…perhaps since the dye-drop-rate “fix”. However, I first noticed it during Lost Shores. I have had a couple exotics and rares drop in Orr, but always from regular mobs and nothing ever drops from champs…EVER. The is a real problems since at this level everyone is typically already 80 and just farming or doing events for rewards. There’s no incentive to take on a really tough enemy and possibly rack up repair/respawn costs, when you can be reasonably certain there’s no reward other than a bit of karma and less than 2 silver. I’ve done the Champion Risen Abomination in Cursed Shore, a truly tough foe, twice and racked up over ~6 silver in repairs and another ~6 silver in respawns and didn’t get any drops at all either time. I’m typically running about +31MF.

Again, this is a real problem, and very discouraging, when the drop rate and quality on regular enemies is substantially better than a champion that typically garners it’s own “group event”. Again…there is no incentive for me to take on champions, unless there is another motive such as them guarding a skill point or something similar…this is a real problem!!

Admittedly, I haven’t read the entire thread, is the behavior similar in dungeons?

I’ve had exotics drop for me from regular mobs in Orr, had Axiquiotl drop just yesterday…so I’m confident precursors are possible. However, I’ve never had an item drop, not even a white, from a champion, not since before the Lost Shores weekend. I’ve participated in at least 6 champions in Orr and many more during Lost Shores and no drops, so I think they still have some work to do on the drop mechanism.

My point was that the precursors and the cost of making the legendaries were already WAY overpriced and that this will hopefully lower that to just simply overpriced.

There seems to be a great many people who think getting a precursor means a legendary weapon or that a precursor is a legendary weapon. Ummm…no!! Precursors are special exotics that can be used to create legendary weapons and have stats not much better than a common exotic which only costs a few gold (Typically between 2 and 5). Even if you have the precursor, it will still cost hundreds of gold, over 1,000,000 karma points, over 400 skill points and untold amounts of time at the mystic forge to craft the legendary. For straight-up stats, legendaries only have a fancy skin, and only support a single type of character build so personally, I can’t see ever pursuing this. 100 or 200G one might make selling a precursor on the TP is no small chunk of change, but it’s not a huge amount either. A level 80 character can burn through this rather quickly with traveling, upgrades and repairs.

As for legendaries…I wish there were more legendaries that could better support a wider range of character builds…perhaps 3-4 per weapon class (Exception…There are 3 legendary greatswords, but you have to build the first two and use them to make the third). Also legendaries should, well, be legendary in every way, including stats (At least 15-20% better than exotic). Currently legendaries (Comparing the legendary staff The Bifrost to the exotic Carrion Pearl Quarterstaff) only add about 8% to base damage/stats, which does not even come close to justifying the enormous cost and time required.

So will a legendary weapon make a difference in a fight, perhaps, but at that level…rarely, it’s a marginal gain. Does the gain justify the cost? You tell me…

The precursors are one of the materials. So imo, they should be about as difficult to acquire as the gifts, which also require a lot of input. I don’t think is should be a ridiculous amount like 300g of course, but they shouldn’t be worthless either. Something like 50g worth, or a different method to acquire them that takes a good amount of time and/or effort just like the other components.

It’s an open market, so they’re worth as much as people are willing to pay. What amazes me is that people are willing to pay so much for something that really isn’t any better than a common exotic. For example, in many ways, the Bifrost is a weaker staff than than my Carrion Pearl Quarterstaff. It might have a fancy-shamncy skin/animation…but that won’t help take down a champion troll. At a cost of 500+G, 1000000+karma points and 400+ skill points, to make I would expect a legendary weapon, to be , well, legendary…not an exotic with a fancy skin and name. My staff cost ~3G to buy.

I have been playing 3 months and dont have ANYWHERE near 180 gold…

Well, gold also comes/goes fairly quickly between all of the sinks. I’ve gambled with the Mystic Forge here/there, but despite casually netting hundreds of gold, after the urges of supporting our characters (wife and I) with the gem-shop, sets of gear, and much more, we have less than 100g in our banks ourselves. Of course, I rather spend/enjoy than re-invest, so it’s not terribly difficult to assume that others (whom enjoy reinvesting frequently) have accumulated thousands of gold.

Exactly, when you reach level 80 EVERYTHING is expensive. Hell, it costs 3-4 silver just to teleport across the map and well over a silver to go to a waypoint if you’re downed…even if you’re right next to it. A couple hundred gold is bugger all and can quickly be spent. I don’t see the point in the legendaries, they are uber expensive to make and really only support one type of character build. There is no legendary that will support my condition damage necro, so the ~2-4G exotics I have are much better.

For the record, precursors don’t go for 2-300 gold anymore. I think the most expensive one on the TP is around 180g.

I think its insane people have that much gold, obviously people are buying gems with real money.

or they are better at making gold than you are.

I know a guy who day-trades dyes. He knows what he’s doing and can easily make 10G in a day…that adds up quick.

I don’t see what the big deal is, while I was lucky enough to get a precursor in the chest, if I didn’t…so what…people are complaining about 8G drops. I can tell you that 50% of my group (~60 people) did not receive precursors. Many were posting and I think I was the only one who posted one. Gimme a break, while I already had 25G in the bank I would have been just as happy. In fact I was more excited about the box and the accessory. For those in inconvenient time zones, I agree that it could have been handled better…perhaps rolled out to the servers in those regions at a different time. For those who had other plans and couldn’t play, get over it, such is life and it’s only a game. I nearly had company for the weekend and they luckily canceled, but if they did, oh well!!

My biggest hope is that the influx of exotics with actually lower the trading post price to a more reasonable level because they are extremely over priced at the moment.

Precursors?!? That would have been nice....

Precursors should always have been drops from incredibly difficult bosses, something like level 10 FoM or something IMO. Not random.

Agreed.

I have to say, with phase 1 being botched so badly I really considered giving up on the entire event, then I had problems with the start of phase 2, but the boat was there so I decided to persevere and head over to the island just to check it out. It was fun there and the Skipping Stones jumping puzzle was excellent. Then came phase 3, which, with the problems of the previous two days, I was anticipating with some gentile apprehension. I have to say phase 3 was epic and, for me at least, makes up for the problems and frustration caused by phase 1 and to a lesser extent 2. Well done…it was a blast, I loved every minute of the 3 hours phase 3 took and I truly appreciate all the work that went in to making this possible.
