Honestly just one of the builds listed in the pvp sticky here. Eles don’t have any build diversity and diamond skin is extremly bad of a grandmaster trait.
The wiki is written by players it is not an official source of wording.
Common sense dictates that attacks are things which negatively effect other people.
Exceptional ele is good. Okay ele is bad.
Okay warrior is amazing. Bad warrior is still good.
I prefer Earth V to Earth III with double daggers because you have 3 sources of auras.
10 Water is pretty pointless if you don’t have cantrips. Either go 15 for the heal or 20 for the condition removal. Water V is only good paired with Water XI.
Signet of Air passive is useless in your build because you already can have perma swiftness. And I don’t think it’s worth it just for the blind if you don’t need the passive runspeed. Earthshield works better in condition builds IMHO because of the heavy bleeding.
Also you have extremely low health and healing power. Which makes Diamond Skin even worse that it already is.
There was nothing special about this besides people being carried by overpowered wvw gear fighting against upleveled players in bad gear.
You are probably the only player in the history of ever to not understand what attack means.
Having enemy castbars which are readable and easily clickable in a huge brawl would probably instantly fix the whole screen clutter issue.
Just out of curiosity, how on earth do you think that adding more information to an already overloaded screen will make it less cluttered?
If you read the rest of my quoted post you’d know why. The main problem isn’t the 3D models of the pets jumping around, it’s that they obscure vision and targeting. So you can’t see when that necro casts fear besides all his minions and can’t swiftly target him when he does. Enemy castbars and nameplates a la WoW would instantly solve that problematic.
Stop feeding the troll.
To shut him down once and for all: By his logic if shouts shouldn’t miss when blinded because you’re just shouting, 90% of my elementalist attacks should not be effected by blind because they target the ground and not the opponent, and how can you miss the ground. Hurp durp.
Thing is, in PvE eles provide great DPS. According to gw2guru they’re DPS is even higher than warriors. So the DPS is there. (But I’d say that scepter 2 needs work in order to be viable in PvP).
All that pve dps comes from lightning hammer which is a gimmicky build and will never ever be viable in pvp.
Why do eles complain so much? They can already spec in a way to have the highest sustained burst in the game (mostly seen in PvP), and they can also spec completely differently and be virtually unkillable (mostly seen in WvW).
So the question stands…. why do they complain so much?
There is no such thing as “sustained burst” which shows how much you must know about pvp mechanics.
Are you seriously trying to argue that screen clutter is fun and good for the game?
I think it’s an entirely valid game mechanic that’s available to what, half the professions in the game. It’s part of those classes and people need to learn how to deal with it – just like all the other game mechanics that everyone constantly whines about.
IMHO the main problem with the petting zoo mechanic is that it forces you to fight the game’s interface instead of your opponent which makes it dull and extremely frustrating.
The act of having to kill a specific spirit to remove a specific buff from the ranger isn’t the problem. The problem is there is no surefire quick way to target the spirit (or the ranger or whatever) at the right time with all those npcs around.
Compare a 3v3 fight on mid against pet classes in gw2 with a 3v3 arena match in wow, which is a pretty fair comparison of gameplay I’d say:
GW2: The enemy targets are 2 small asuras each with 4 pets (necro mm + spirit ranger) and a mesmer which spawns about an average of 1-2 extra targets. GW2 has pretty amazing graphics for an mmo so all those spirits casting their spells looks fancy but also makes it extremely hard to make out details in the enemy clutter. You have to click your targets in that mess and watch out for tiny animations on asuras for skills they use.
WOW: There could also be a shaman with 4 totems, most classes had pets in the end. But you had those really information heavy health and cast bars above your enemies in the game, and also had a side display with all enemy players and their buffs/debuff and cast bars so you could easily click them and interrupt them for example.
GW2 is (was?) all about being able to play the game not the interface, so they don’t show cast bars because they want you to watch the action for example. But for that concept to work we need to be able to see clearly and be able to select targets more efficiently (tab target also takes way too long to select a specific target in a brawl).
Having enemy castbars which are readable and easily clickable in a huge brawl would probably instantly fix the whole screen clutter issue.

wow!
nice one!well, their ele is rank 1 though heheh.
but yeah we dun know the ranks until end of game.sometimes a team full of high rank players does not necessary mean they 100% win the match also.
here’s my screenie heheh.
my 6th solo arena game.
Those teams were extremely close in ranks. Above rank ~30 it’s meaningless anyway.
It puts a condition on enemies. OF COURSE it counts as an attack. Anything else would be ridiculous.
so by your logic, stomp is an attack as well?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stompand stomp will miss everyone if the warrior is blind?
that is ridiculous.all right, time to make a new topic about blind then.
no, fear me! is an utility shout, not an attack.
Of course stomp misses when blinded. Also the forum pretty much knows that you are a warrior troll, with all the ridiculous topics you’ve posted in the last time.
Try to read the “New to pvp?” sticky post? https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/New-to-PvP-Start-here
That’s why we play makebelieve battles on computers where they can be fun and fair. Instead of gruesome and fatal like actual battles.
What’s fun for you may not be fun for others.
Not to mention that WvW is far more popular than PvP and features much less balance in every respect.
Are you seriously trying to argue that screen clutter is fun and good for the game?
With the base attunement cooldown lowered the only thing from the arcane traitline I simply cannot live without is elemental attunement. I would have prefered that they moved renewing stamina to master instead of this.
I simply explode in pvp when I don’t have on demand protection and regeneration.
You know what’s also chaotic and confusing?
Actual battles.

I think aura builds could be viable with a single change: Move Fire’s Embrace (fire aura on signet use) to adept from master. This would enable 10/30/30 aura-signet builds with tempest defense and written in stone.
An aura that is shared using powerful aura shares any boons associated with it (for example when using zeyphrs boon or elemental shielding).
As far as I know the auras that are generated using a blast finisher in an ice field do not.
You are misinformed sir. Auras from ice field blast finishers DO share boons. What it doesn’t do, is if you use Powerful Aura and an ice field blast, is apply boons double.
So, a combo field is as good as one of our grandmaster traits? Figures.

I would also really like a system that lets you re-queue with some teammates you just met that did well in the match.
It’s there and its called Team Queue. Just invite the people to a party. Would it be convenient for a one button way of doing this, sure, but that might be asking for a bit much.
Team queue pits you against full 5 man teams with teamspeak coordination though, which solo queue doesn’t. And 3 random guys that just met in a match don’t stand a chance against a coordinated team with voice communication.
I fracking loved random arenas in GW1!
I would also really like a system that lets you re-queue with some teammates you just met that did well in the match. Just like wow allowed you to re-queue for dungeons with a few people from your random dungeon group if you wanted to.
Thanks for the explanation! I didn’t look too much at the stats of your build but you’re right, 20% crit chance without any point in air does make crit chance runes pretty interesting.
Eles do massive damage under the right conditions, and its easy to learn how to look for those conditions.
1. Join with your Zerg.
2. Wait too your commander attacks the enemy Zerg.
3. Drop lava font and fire fireballs
4. Wait for that lull where the enemy wave stops moving, then drop meteor swarm
All that isn’t possible in PVP. There is no zerg to protect you and without the zerg eles are cannon fodder, even in WVW.
Interesting build BlackBeard, I shall give it a try. Though Lyssa with a 3 minute cooldown elite seems like a waste to be honest. I’ll probably use Ogre, Melandru or most likely Hoelbrak instead.
Mesmer and Eles should swap base health. Mesmer have countless active defenses (clones, defensive phantasms, stealth, evades, distortion) while eles pretty much have none. Yet mesmers have 15k health while eles are stuck at 10k.
It would be more balanced at 25% stun, 25% daze and 50% no cc. If it goes to the way it technically should be CS chaos storm pulses will only have 1/8 chance to stun which is far too low on a skill that pulses just 6 times.
Frankly I think random stun chances can never be balanced. Even if it’s just something like 5% it has the chance to decide the outcome of a duel/match/game simply by rolling the dice.
I think stuff like “Stun for 1 second when you interrupt. 100% chance. 30 seconds cooldown” is much more balanced because you can count on it and play with it, or anticipate it and play against it as an opponent.
I can live with Flash not being a stun break, but Cleansing Fire should be one again. A tiny amount of burn and clearing 3 condition is just so bland for a utility skill and doesn’t justify the 40 seconds cooldown.
I think gale might last long enough to land a tooth, but updraft doesn’t. Even if you spam the tooth button while you’re still in the updraft animation to land it ASAP the enemy can avoid it if he spams dodge while getting up. Not sure about earthquake (I think it doesn’t last long enough) but signet of earth is a guaranteed tooth hit if they don’t use a condition removal.
Fear isn’t a warrior class speciality so 80 seconds cooldown is fine.
S TIER (too strong and/or too much reward for little or no risk)
- Warriors
- Spirit Rangers
- Necromancers
A TIER (really strong but probably balanced)
- Engineer
- Guardians
- Thieves
- Mesmers
B TIER (not a single viable build)
- Elementalists
Overall I think warriors, spirit rangers and necros are simply way too easy to play for the rewards they get (extremely high sustain, great damage).
Engineers, Mesmers and Thieves are really good but they can be defeated with skillful play and they at least take some amount of skill to be good with.
Guardians haven’t changed since release. They still are the #1 needed class to bunker mid. Which doesn’t make them OP, but there should be other classes capable of filling that role (bring the player not the class). Elementalists at release looked like they could fit the role, with staff, but that was swiftly nerfed.
Overall Eles need a LOT of help. They still don’t have any build diversity, they still have the exact d/d bunker build setup they had at release, only it has been nerfed to make it unviable. Fresh Air isn’t viable either because while it brings insane burst damage (too much actually, and it shouldn’t all be instant) they simply explode when looked upon, especially by thieves and mesmers.
So I main ele in soloq, usually ~top 30 barring decay if I can’t play for a couple days, and from my experience Fresh Air s/d is the only way to go
You’re just as glassy as a zerker staff ele, but have a substantially higher amount of burst and two on demand blinds, plus the earth 2 to bump your toughness slightly as well as help with burst/proc FA.
Sure a full zerk staff ele can pop things if they get a bunch of lava fonts and a meteor channel off on a point – but s/d unloads burst instantly if your fingers are fast enough and can instadrop a zerker staff, especially if you watch their prot and get them at the start of a channel which is essentially a pseudo-immob
If you play just be aware you’ll still fall over pretty quick if you aren’t good at disengaging after unloading
The problem with glass eles, even if they have high burst, is that thieves eat them for breakfast. And it’s even harder with scepter because most spells need a target as opposed to daggers and staff.
Josh Davis posted:
“There are a lot of valid concerns with the elementalist right now and we’re going to be working on addressing those points. Once everyone gets back from holiday vacation we’ll be posting up our proposed balance changes and we’ll go from there.”
Does this still hold true? When will we get the post with the proposed changes to elementalists that are supposed to help them back on track? Do we really have to wait till the 17th for the twitch stream?
Please post the proposed changes sooner Grouch
