I am torn. How many of you posters play a melee damage class?
One of the key problems of the game has been that ranged damage can’t whittle anyone down very much before they are in “smashface” mode.
The immobilize buff helped.
But it would be pretty boring to just sit.
On the other hand, it is pretty frustrating to be ranged damage with melee in your face in seconds.

If it is toned down, there needs to be something done to make melee’s ability to close range far less effective.

Ranged damage still works in melee.
Melee damage doesn’t work at range.

I remember doing some random BGs on my mage one day. I had no teammates online at that moment and wow doesnt have soloqueues so i have to settle with whatever pvp is available. So i did some random BGs. A few minutes in a random guildie whispers me: “why are you doing random BGs, arent you fully geared allready?”

but the gear progression also meant it was fun to play the “hotjoin” pvp with ridiculously good gear,
i used to do it to feel godly, it was hellishly fun having a 100k health Blood DK during wotlk while everyone else in the BG was sitting around 50k (with 70k being the most i’d ever see on anyone else) hp,
topping damage meters while being unkillable and running the flags, godly fun. >:-3

Just no. Are you even aware that all of those skills are on melee weapons? Melee (of any profession) needs the mobility to get into the fight, stay in the fight , and, yes, to escape, because that is part of the overall dynamic of the games combat. If you want to disallow this, then you should also disallow kiting, which is really the same thing. When a ranged character attempts to kite a melee character, he is attempting to avoid taking damage. When a melee character uses his leaps away from an opponent he is doing the same thing. The difference is that the ranged player only has to get 131 units of range away from the melee character to avoid an attack – the melee character may have to get well over 1200 units of range away from the ranged character to avoid that characters attack.

These movement skills are no more a problem than is kiting. If you haven’t figure that out yet, then you are hopelessly lacking in any form of deductive reasoning. If you have figured it out and still can post this then you’re either a great troll, or a terrible player.

Dagger / Dagger Elementalist = Melee character
Dagger / Dagger Elementalist = No weapon swap, locked into melee
Dagger / Dagger Elementalist = RTL nerf, setting a precedent that should be applied to ALL kittenING OTHER CLASS GAP SKILLS or revert the nerf.

Consistency from the balance team would be amazing.

Are you stupid? Elementalists can use SCEPTER/DAGGER meaning they have range damage + RTL. THATS why it was nerfed. If RTL could only be used by D/D eles then it probably wouldn’t have been nerfed but the fact they could RTL away with low CD and attack from range made it OP. I don’t know why people keep referring to RTL here as it was used as a kiting skill for range damage.. Warriors can’t range while escaping so there is no imbalance.

This is completely false. Not only have the developers stated why RTL was nerfed (because fight reset + healing, EXACTLY the reason warriors use their supreme mobility) you couldn’t even do that, because scepter only has 900 range and RTL was 1500.

If the developers only want to “shave” classes and not make kneejerk balance changes, why do we always have to wait 3-6 month between balance changes?

Wouldn’t it make much more sense make smaller “shaving” changes much more often, and therefore see much faster how (and if) the change does what it was supposed to do? As opposed to dropping a huge balancing patch every few month only?

Pretty fair assessment. I’d argue that brainless specs are fun ruining though. There’s nothing more frustrating and unfun than losing to a spec that plays itself in a competitive pvp game.

Assuming all combos and gear were brought over what would be your list of “yes’s” and “no’s”

I don’t pve so I’ll don’t know all the available stat combinations there so I’ll use http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats as a guide. So if I get any combination names wrong, blame the wiki

Assassin sounds like a reasonable all-out alternative to berserker, yes to pvp.

Cavaliers. Yes to pvp. Would be nice for builds that don’t go into their classes crit damage tree.

Givers. Don’t know if this counts because the wiki lists it as only available to chest armor? Anyway, boon duration on pvp amulet? OMG YES PLEASE!

PVE Knight stats would be awesome in pvp.

Dire. Oh gawd please no. Conditons are already everywhere in pvp and way too rampart, and bursty. Condition spammers don’t need all the defensive stat + their only needed offensive stat on an amulet.

Winter. Again boon duration. YES PLEASE.

Magi. I’m not sure if I could ever come up with a build that would want these 3 stats on amulets. Don’t honestly care if they come to pvp.

Apothecary. Settlers with healing power main instead of toughness. Intriguing. Would like in pvp.

Celestial. I’m not sure if PVE celestial stuff gives more stats overall than the pvp amulet, but PVP celestial could really need a buff to stats, especially power which is extremely low with the amulet.

I play ele if it matters.

Interesting, I’ll have to give it a go. And I’d imagine this build will get a substantial boost in survivability when they bump up the signet’s heal to that of PvE. Will that change alter the build in any way?

It’ll make the build better

Try something like this for a bunker build. The passive healing + high heal power and toughness helps you get acquainted with the D/D skills and you’re still doing OK damage.

I still hate the fact that auras are supposed to be OUR thing, yet mesmers have pretty much exclusive access to the best aura in the game. Chaos Armor is way above and beyond what any of our auras can do. It’s the best aura in the game and we don’t have access to it. I’d argue it’s better than all of our auras combined (at least fire + ice those pretty much suck).

Also why the frack don’t we have a glyph that gives us an aura depending on attunement? Instead of the trainwreck that is glyph of elemental power?

Charge, Heartseeker, Leap of Faith, savage leap, monarch’s leap, etc, etc, etc…these really need to be changed to be used at a target, would fix a lot of mobility issues in wvw.

Why? One of the best choices the dev’s made when designing this game was the combat style/engine – the entire idea that you can use most of your skills without a target/target in range is one of the biggest difference between this game and most other PvP MMO’s – your reason for wanting it changes is pretty minor in comparison to that.

And then they said: “Frack this, elementalistss shan’t have any of that!” and nerfed RTL into the ground.

No. The designers made a game we care about. The developers haven’t done much in the last 2 years besides showing that they have absolutely no idea of class balance or bug fixing priorities.

Is there a big difference?

Developers develop.
Designers design.

:P

Developing is much more about number crunching, bug fixing, coding, implementing, etc. It’s “down and dirty”. Designing is much more high level, usually done by non-programmers and doesn’t linger on little details. Design is much more about the bigger picture, broad strokes if you will. Development is about the nitty gritty little details that make up that bigger picture.

Also design is usually finished (or close to being finished) when development starts.

Or just learn to carry Condition Removal? I have a whole build that focuses on immobilize, and it is not overpowered in any way shape or form, beacuse all anyone has to do is blow their nose and they lose 3 conditions.

There’s no way to guarantee that condi removal removes immobilize, that’s the problem. And most classes don’t have a “remove all conditions” skill, most of them remove only a limited amount of conditions.

ALL our elites suck, that’s no secret. Elementals could as well be a utility spell, they don’t really do anything fancy besides adding damage and maybe a heal. Tornado is ridiculous, a transform that gives zero defense and really bad (and localized) damage, all on the class with the least survivability. Greatsword is probably our best elite, but only because it has 2 mobility spells which we crave so much after RTL was nerfed into the ground, through the earth, all the way into china.

Noone cared for Greatsword before the RTL nerfs.

Yeah, they should at least revert Bountiful Power (10% max damage) and Cleansing Water. Using a trait you need a stopwatch or luck to use isn’t good. If Cleansing Water removed 1 condition every 5 secs, I could approve of it. Or 2 every 10 secs. Guardians have purity (adept, 1 condi/10 secs) and rangers empathic bond (grandmaster, 3 condis/10 secs w. living pet). That way you wouldn’t have to worry about an invisible timer.

This so much. The only thing that ever made cleansing water worthy of a grandmaster trait was that you could time a few regen abilities at the same time to remove more than 1 condition instantly. Now that it only removes 1 condition at the same time, and you have to internally count 5 seconds cooldown to time the next regen ability, it’s not worthy of a gm trait anymore (especially with elemental attunement getting moved to master tier).

Mind you this is only SPvP. It works wonders in wvw.

Um, the fact that some classes have way too much escape mobility.

Yes, nothing worse than a thief spamming HS to run away from you at a rate of like 123984612037846 meters per second. Or worse, Monarch’s Leap.

Right.

BTW these are not in fact “mobility issues”, at least have the common sense to call them something like “disengage issues” or something.

I call it an entitlement issue. People thinking they deserve to have a kill when in reality they don’t.

PvP "Hotfix" Patch?

If they are smart, they will take note of all the negativity on the forum. All this negativity came out mostly today, and that is all the result of realizing balance changes are not going to happen until at the very very least end of march/early april….the pvp player base simply cannot wait another 3 months for the small and relatively low impact changes that were proposed on the last ready up.

It is time for the pvp team to step up and sneak some small balance changes into one of the living story updates. I can’t see pvp surviving if the community has to wait 3+ months for ANY changes at all when it comes to class balance. There is no reason why a small 8% heal reduction, or a small cd reduction from armor of earth could not be hotfixed.

Honestly it seems they never learn. The forum was like this for the 3-4 month where we had to endure the worst meta ever without so much as hotfixes just because of PAX. And when the balance patch finally came, it underwhelmed everybody and didn’t change anything about the meta.

Why don t simply reduce the range and double the cooldown on miss?
Can be done with initiative cost also…should cost double and give half back on hit ….

I m sure it would work perfectly leaving untouched the gap closing ability…

That why you guys is talking about is just absurd. You just want that an Warrior, easy target without AI, Stealth, Protection or Teleport, just no have any chance of flee or disengage a fight, when half of professions has access to stealth, 7 them has AI, heal spam, combo spam, ect, etc. etc…

Stop telling the lie that warriors are easy targets without any defenses. They have lots of invulnerbilities, more than other classes actually, seeing as block is equal to mistform in protection.

I would pay them money if they postponed the last 3 story arcs for the feature patch. It’s very telling about the state of the game when balance changes are worth way more to a lot of people than the “story” content. How long does it really take to get some tweaking done to some classes? Most of it is just changing some numbers in a database/formula. I’d say they spent time testing to make sure the changes were balanced but just look at the current balance that they’ve “tested”. The worst part is that it will have been 4 months since the last underwhelming balance patch and it will still be a huge letdown. I have yet to hear of anything in the feature patch that warrants it being it’s own patch. Everything from ferocity, sigils/runes, class balance, etc are all things that SHOULD be put in alongside story content. Every other MMO developer can do it, why can’t ArenaNet?

Because for those kind of changes you need software developers. People who actually can write code. Those type of employees are much more expensive than content creators. This is especially a problem in a F2P game where most of the money comes from the item shop (aka gem store). And it is even more a problem in GW2 where PvP doesn’t generate any income worth mentioning.

It’s not our fault that arenanet doesn’t give us anything worth spending money on in pvp though. Finishers were a nice start but they need more stuff to monetize on.

I’d gladly pay some money if it meant pvp would get faster and better balance updates.

So, grouch, are you REALLY telling us that stuff like setting Armor of Earth cooldown from 90 seconds to 75 seconds is SUCH A HUGE change that there is no way that it can go into a “normal” patch? That such a change really needs 3 month of feedback and testing before it can be released?

Sure the sigil and rune revamp is gonna need testing, but why the frack don’t you release some balance changes, the little ones, the “shaves” as you always like to call them, in a “normal” patch?

Thats exactly what people are angry about. In GW1 we had so many game modes(RA, TA, HA, GvG, Aspenwood, Quarry), daily automated tournaments, mat´s, guild halls and a decent ladder system.
Then they promised to bring an extraordinary PvP experience with GW2. But all we got is a PvP system which is quite fine, but everything around it just isnt existing. And instead of developing it any further, they just bring 1 PvE update after another, while doing straight nothing for PvP. And this is just dishonest. We even have to wait months for bugfixes or little balance adjustments, while everything in PvE is fixed asap.

Im playing GW since prophecies release and always thought about A-Net as a visionary company, but nowadays im just disillusioned.

All the while teasing us with bi-weekly pve updates that clearly state “look we DO have development resources, we just choose not to use them for this silly pvp of yours.”

Opinion: Conquest is the best mode ever. Was the best mode in battlefield and every game that has it.

Fact: Conquest only really works on foefire where the points are large enough to have teamfights and use movement (what the game is all about) without getting decapped instantly.
The cap points on all the other maps need to be enlarged to be as big as the ones on foefire. Graveyard always has great teamfights and even the sidepoints there let you move around.

Fact: Conquest is boring as all hell.
Fact: Conquest might be more fun in a 6v6 or 7v7.
Fact: PvP should not only have one mode.

Seems like 2 opinons and a fact to me.

The cap points on all the other maps need to be enlarged to be as big as the ones on foefire. Graveyard always has great teamfights and even the sidepoints there let you move around.

ITT devs trying to wiggle their way out by arguing semantics.

ITT a bunch of whiny kids with entitlement issues.

ITT a dude who thinks paying customers complaining about legitimate issues about being lied to makes them “whiny kids”.

Just because you pay them doesn’t mean your issues move to the top of the queue. They gave you a timetable, what more do you want?

What more do I want? How about not being balantly lied to? I.e. promising that balance changes would be in the next feature patch. Then today the feature patch comes and no balance changes at all.

Well that’s disappointing. They could have at least tried to make it more clear that there would be nothing for a couple of months.

Also, I love how they specifically mention pretty important bugs, like Nature Spirit healing for the wrong amount, yet they don’t even have fixes for them in the upcoming patch.

I don’t understand how you and so many other people missed the info that the massive balance thing wouldn’t be before at least the LS is concluded. I’ve read/heard it several times and I’m not even fishing for that kind of information all that much.

It’s because they said clearly the balance changes (not the sigil changes) will be in the next feature patch. Which was todays patch.
