The only tooltip that matters is earth storm anyway. All the other stuck. And even with earth storm the glyph is pretty unviable.
You can’t simply compare 2 class abilities. You have to compare the full package.
Always power. Condi builds aren’t viable for eles.
Rather than hoping for the best, you should brace yourself for the worst.
(I thought ppl had learned that by now)
Like Ciaphas Cain used to say: Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
Why would you ever take speedboost runes when you already have permaswiftness?
Retaliation on auras would be awesome. Without Air I and/or Earth V Powerful Auras is an extremely lacking grandmaster trait. Plus it really needs to work with every aura we get, be it from runes or combos.
This issue could REALLY need a developer answer.
MOST OF ALL: A greater split between amulet/jewel. Something like 60/40 or even 50/50. As an ele, there are a few builds I can’t make b/c I will be unable to get a mix of toughness/vit that is acceptable, so I usually end up going full-glass. More ways to build balanced would be great.
Secondly, stat combos that I want to see:
1. Knights: Major Toughness, Minor Power/Precision (more dps than soldiers for less defense)
2. Cavaliers: Major Toughness, Minor Power/Crit Damage (similar to knights, but leaning more towards crit builds. Really only works with more control)
3. Assassin: Major precision, Minor Power/Crit Damage (mostly because the jewel can be used to get more precision on a dps build that needs some)
4. PvE Valkyrie: Major Power, Minor Vitality/Crit Damage (again, mostly to get an option for a little more vitality while staying dps)
This is pretty much spot on. Shifting some of the stats from the amulet to the jewels would open up a lot more combinations. As it is right now, for example, if you use an amulet without vitality (and there are quite a few) you can only get max 125 vitality from a jewel. And for classes with 10k base health vitality is an extremely important stat, until around 15k health where I feel comfortable in pvp. Which of course means medium and high base health classes can use all the amulets without vitality and still be viable.
For example as an ele if you don’t spec water, you simply can’t go without vitality on your amulet. 10k health simply isn’t viable in pvp no matter how much toughness you stack.
Oh please, you are really going to pick a fight with a highly experienced warrior player?
1) Dogged march only affects movement impairing effects, engis and eles have this trait aswel. So your damage stays on
Neither engi nor ele get regeneration (without internal cooldown!) when hit by those conditions with their traits. AND their respective traits are master tier instead of adept.
798 Power
569 Condition Damage
284 Vitality
284 Toughness
Do I think they were funny? No. Do I think they were fun? Yes. And I think that was the goal. They weren’t auditioning for an HBO special. They were just trying to keep a potentially dull discussion lively.
That pretty much says it all. I didn’t laugh or chuckle like I do when I watch a comedy movie, but I was entertained all throughout the stream nonetheless.
Not that funny.. the word that comes to mind is “unprofessional”
Ugh… Really? How professional do you want someone to be who’s making your kitten videogame? >_>: F’F’S.
Again, not being serious != not taking things seriously.
Not my type if humor the jokes and Lulz weren’t particularly funny… But it didn’t bother me.
The first ready up was kinda cute with the silly phone call bit, that was as least entertaining even if it didn’t make me roll on the floor.
My question is… We’re they hamming it up to put on a show? Or is them being normal?
If it’s them being normal I’d say more work less play. The game is in a serious situation if your in any level at least moderately above casual. (and I mean that for every aspect of the game not just PvP) and if the devs aren’t taking it seriously well… Then a lot of us are going to continue our breaks.
Humor wise tho I’d say just tolerate it, it’s not that big a deal really. It’s kind of silly tho when they are on a tight schedule and they extend certain parts for repeated jokes.
I take it you never worked in a software development office? Not being serious != not taking it seriously.
has anyone wrote any bulletpoints of things from the ready up?
A lot of people in a lot of places, it’s seriously everywhere. 2 Threads on reddit, more than 3 in this forum.
Here’s my opinion: Who the hell cares.
This. It was a really informative stream that gave us a lot of information. These guys are humans that work together, of course they are gonna banter.
If you don’t like the banter, wait for the mechanical patch notes.

I mostly take vitality instead. my defense is for burst resistance, not for sustain
Toughness gives burst resistance. Vitality gives sustain resistance.
I really hope that they’ll also undo the cleansing water 5 seconds cooldown in pvp. It’s such an awkward mechanic to have to count the seconds for example between using a cantrip that grants regen and then swapping to water for 2 condition removals. If you swap 4 seconds after using the cantrip you won’t remove another condition. Which is pretty lame for a grandmaster trait that needs other traits to actually do anything.
It has been a long time since this forums has been happy and peaceful about upcoming changes.
Not that it’ll last, once the preview post comes and announces some nerfs too. :P
I think this piece perfectly captures the picture you are trying to make.
More like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2j-frfK-yg I’d say.
every combination that contains +284 vitality :P
The biggest thing we need is a combination that is in between soldiers and berserkers. In theory this should be Barbarians, but vitality is essentially a garbage stat past 400 or so, so nobody uses it.
Ele would benefit from a good power/precision/healing combo (maybe with vitality).
seems like burst is going to be getting a bit of an indirect nerf, since they already have their optimum setup
This is spot on. Especially vitality being extremely vital for a bit and then becoming pretty garbage from a certain point on, where toughness is needed then.
A buff to or stat-shift on celestial amulet would also be great. I used the jewel a lot of times in soldiers amulet on my ele for a bit of everything, but the amulet simply doesn’t give enough power or condition damage to be of any use.
Honestly Helseth might be a great mesmer player but he doesn’t seem to have any idea about eles. Burning speed change doing nothing? LOL.
He doesn’t say it is worthless. He said it is a worthless change in respect to the power creep. Stop taking things out of context, you are literally a problem.
You are literally using literally wrong. Whatever your point maybe…
Nothing? Swap-Sigils already have 9 seconds cooldown so if you swap weapons faster you ain’t gonna proc the sigil.
Honestly Helseth might be a great mesmer player but he doesn’t seem to have any idea about eles. Burning speed change doing nothing? LOL.
For fracks sake, do you really believe that they will simply buff on crit sigils to 100% chance and let that be it? They will probably lower the damage accordingly. Same for on-swap sigils, energy probably will get nerfed to something like 25 energy etc.
They said in the stream that every single rune and sigil had a balance pass.
Oh for fracks sake. They said in the stream that every single sigil and rune had a balance pass. Which – get this – means that they actually know that doubling sigils is power creep and will probably make all of them a bit worse. Just like they said that on crit sigils will probably be 100% chance but then do way less damage.
I imagine stuff like energy only giving 25 energy, battle maybe giving only 2 might, etc.
Until they fix the fact that being support is rewardless and ineffective (save for on a team level), even IF they made the stats worthwhile it would still be looked at being lesser.
The issue with GW in the support manner is, if you aren’t killing, you ain’t getting nothing.
Everybody gets the same amount of glory and rank points at the end of a match so support already is rewarded. It simply needs to be buffed a bit to keep up with damaging roles.
The devs asked for feedback on new amulet stats in the Ready Up stream, so I’ll start:
As an ele I’d love to see more amulets with vitality as a minor stat, so something like
+798 Power
+284 Healing
+569 Toughness
+284 Vitality
or
+569 Power
+284 Precision
+569 Toughness
+284 Vitality
Anything that gives some offensive while also giving toughness + a bit of vitality really. If you don’t want to go into water traits you don’t really have much choice when it comes to amulets as an ele: 10k health simply isn’t feasible in pvp, but 13k is a start (then you can go barbarian jewel for 15k).
Dudes, chill. They said it’s only gonna be a minor speedbump, ridiculed the idea of skill points for pvp stuff, and said it’s account wide. So probably 200 glory per sigil or something like that.
1, This stuff wont be in for ages. It is anet so probably march (lol)
They said the next feature patch will have balance changes, which should be end of january?
So excited as I was 95% ready to give-up completely on main-hand dagger. I think this is just about what the Dr. ordered. It actually makes the play-style even more like I have always wanted, and buffs our might-stacking abilities.
The 2-sigils is crazy, depending on how they change. Battle + energy would be amazing with current stats, but they are changing a lot of effects too!
Nerfs to other classes, especially dhuumfire and freaking PIN DOWN is amazing. That skill probably accounts for about 50% of my deaths with a warrior nearby.
The only thing is my 2 water/2 monk/2 traveler setup in pve/wvw might have to change with changes if they affect pve too.
Overall, great steps in the right direction. Now make RtL a LITTLE shorter CD and we’ll be cooking with gas.
Edit: I might consider armor of earth as an actual thing now, esp. if I run cantrips. Also rune changes should be very interesting. Buffed/changed strength would be great for dps might-stacking. I only wonder, why bother keeping it 6 different pieces if they want to force people to use complete sets?
I completely second that. I play pretty much D/D exclusively because I simply love everything about the playstyle (battlemage frack yeah!). Evade on burning speed sounds amazing as does a blast finisher on frozen burst. Now if only we had another field besides fire fields
Pretty much all of our long cooldown utilities could use some cooldown reduction but armor of earth is a good start, especially if they make the earth III trait behave the same and benefit from cantrip mastery.
Sigil of Battle + Hydromancy also sounds intriguing
Here’s a list of elementalist skills that reduce or negate damage dealt in some way. This might be a useful reference that is a bit faster than looking through the wiki.
…
I would like to add, that dagger 2 in earth attunement (Ring of Earth) also blocks projectiles, even though it is not mentioned in the tooltip. You can also find this information as a note in the wiki. The skill absorbs projectiles for about 2 seconds.
WOW DOES IT?
I never knew that!
Yeah I tested it in the heart of the mists yesterday. Dunno if it really is 2 seconds (didn’t time it but didn’t feel like 2 seconds) but ring of earth definitely stops projectiles. There isn’t any animation or anything, the projectiles simply cease to exists when they come into range. That’s probably why I never noticed it the whole last year
I actually ended up playing with dev in soloq… he was playing an ele and was doing fine O.o
Were you playing with Powerr? We won our first match-up in the 2v2 tournament last weekend with him playing D/D ele. He’s a great player.
As for elementalists, we’re not scared to talk about them, we just haven’t talked about any profession really (in regards to the next update). There are a bunch of changes coming down the pike for the entire game in general. I mentioned on the ele forums before the holidays that we think the main problem with elementalist is sustain – and that’s what we’re focusing on addressing. I mentioned on the ESL livestream today that our first step towards rectifying this is making Signet of Restoration function the same in PvP as it does in PvE.
I REALLY hope this won’t be the only change you’re gonna preview for eles.
Please do something about Cleansing Fire, giving it back a stunbreak or making a smoke field or something. Anything really to justify a 40 seconds cooldown on a 3 condition clearer.
Only D/D build I’ve had success with in solo queue: http://intothemists.com/guides/2578-bunker_surprise
This would completely break ele.
Currently
Passive healing (per cast) is reduced in sPvP to: Healing per cast: 168full effectiveness
Healing per cast: 202So 120,23% its current state
Healing power scaling is also reduced in pvp right now, from 0.1 to 0.08
song list? 15555555
First one is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSjaEHoi1_c
Nice video. Care to post your build? I made out pack runes, rock solid and evasive arcana, which seems rather strange for a scepter build, but you did well with it.
Also what is the song about revolution called, that starts playing when the action starts?
Grouch wrote 1 or 2 weeks ago in the ele forum that we would get positive changes and that they would be previewed in this ready up and in forum pre-patch notes. While my faith in Arenanet certainly is almost broken after last year, I do believe in Grouch.
If they won’t go over any positive ele changes tomorrow, I’ll throw a tantrum though
I missed that topic, got any link?
In grouch we trust..
Frack, don’t remind me of Warhammer online. That could have been the best pvp / realm vs realm game there ever was. And the publisher and devs completely bombed it. Just like Age of Conan.
Pets are just DOTs with an animation. But unlike DOTS you can kite them.
Dots don’t body-block your projectiles though.

Great idea. Though the main problem we have when it comes to condition builds, IMHO, is that we have not a single skill that applies more than one condition. This is what we need most, some skills that apply 3-4 conditions at the same time, or at least a way to apply more conditions in different attunements (i.e. ways to burn in air, or bleed in water, etc.)
Here’s a list of elementalist skills that reduce or negate damage dealt in some way. This might be a useful reference that is a bit faster than looking through the wiki.

It does, really? Never noticed that. That’s kinda awesome.
Signet of Air is awesome though. AoE blind and a stunbreak on a relatively low cooldown.
Agreed. The only issue I have with the skill is it’s passive. A movement speed boost on a profession that has a hard time NOT getting perma swiftness as a side product of pretty much every build feels a bit wasteful to me. If it were a 10% speed boost that stacked with swiftness however, that’s be a whole different story.
That’s just because we have no build diversity. When the day comes that we are no longer forced into arcane we won’t have perma swiftness in all builds anymore. Even now I played a lot of builds that relied on signet of air for movement speed, especially focus builds.
Any ele build. Period.
We deffinitely need a low-CD ultimate so we can use Lyssa with it. I’m so tired of dying to condi spam
Signet of the Elements:
- Passive: Grants 20% boon duration
- Active: Grants an aura depending on your attunement
- 45 seconds cooldown
I still can’t fathom how we don’t have a single utility skill that grants us auras when they are supposed to be our active defenses.
Please go over all the ele nerfs from the last year and if they are still needed:
Cleansing Fire for example really needs something to make it viable again. Either Stunbreak or something else.
Anyone that thinks playing an ele is easy, should not play an ele. Roll an engie
Eles are very hard to play in WvW but if you master them, they are very fun.
Also you play an ele because you know it takes twice the skill and effort to take down an engie meaning you are twice the player
Engies are easy to defeat and indeed if the player is good then the Ele is very powerful in WvW. Back on topic, the few times the dev post on each profession forum they always get attacked by users that let their emotions get the best of them, I wouldn’t expect any dev to keep trying on the forum.
I can’t talk about WVW but in PVP there is pretty much no chance to kill a competent bunker-condi engi with automated response as an ele. You have a chance to overwhelm him with Fresh Air but then you’ll fold if he dodges and subsequently kills you.
Norn women are too bulky, also their voice sounds like they are imitating a man.
But that’s just my opinion.
WTF? Norn Women have the best voice actress of all the female player characters (male humans have the best male, Nolan North). It’s Claudia Christian aka Ivanova from Babylon 5.
“Did you see that? I did that!” “I. AM. AWESOME.” – love all the female norn infight quotes.
