Seriously though, it will take lots of dying from a new players end. I remember not being able to dodge kholer, failing to survive even the burrows, and get crushed by Rumblus’s rocks. Most new players, who want a decent challenge, or want to become better, will practice it. They will not quit and say, “Wwah, too hard, bye” like many of the forum goers suggest.

Hey I just want to thank the group that did the run and the people that supported them. I tried to post a thread from a new players perspective and I think I did it with the wrong intentions.

I think I actually expected to enlighten a few people as to how a new player actually feels doing these runs, I described my experiences and let people know that it might take a few wipes, but stick to it, and with a group going in with the right attitude and the right expectations you’ll do just fine and you’ll even have fun doing it! _.

For my trouble I was basically just called a liar and a troll, so thank you for going a step further and showing it being done. You may not be new players per se but some of you were new to your class, and you also did it with out a wipe.

I also want to make it known that I would love to be involved in a future run, or just a normal unfilmed run if any of you guys are doing it.

You see, I think my experience in guild wars has been great so far is because I was lucky enough in the groups that I did get that people will willing to teach and willing to rez and willing to wipe if need be.

I say lucky because the forums would have you believe that this doesn’t really exist in game. Well I would like to take out this element of ‘luck’ by actively surrounding myself with like minding people to play with.

So to Meastro, and to all those involved in this video, here is an open invitation from a GW2 noob, invite me on some runs and maybe even add some legitimacy to them that way by inviting a real noob!

Just re-read this, and want to clarify. It’s not about my ego about being able to clear w/o a wipe. By “nothing to gain” I mean we can’t “prove” that AC is any more doable by level 35s.

By “lose”, I mean any failure on our part will likely not be used to highlight our shortcoming, but rather to be used by the naysayers as ammo against ANET to further their claims that AC needs to be changed – which is not the case.

Just wanted to clarify.

I would hate to be lvl 80 to run explorable dungeons, I love running them at level.

I had no idea how to play my mesmer. I just took everyones advice, and it seemed to work very well. Mesmers are fun.

I am down for P3, I’m sure our group could complete it. Let’s try to do it this weekend, how would the others fair on that?

Huh… usually I’m pretty sympathetic to people who have trouble with a dungeon (like to offer help/suggestions to make it more fun). I generally and genuinely don’t understand the problems people have with AC though.

Many of us tried to give tips/tricks for the new AC on the forums and to people in-game, but many people rejected our help and said it was only possible on lvl 80s geared in exotics. No less. To prove them wrong since they would not listen, we ran it at lvl 35 in masterwork gear, with no issue (other than maestro dying :P).

I ran 3 newbies through this today, we wiped at the queen once because someone, on accident, pulled all the baby spiders – we did kholer/troll/burrows/howling king just fine. They had a nice time and added me as a friend. Before each fight I took a minute to type out the strat, and took time in battle to type if needed, that’s all it takes to teach most people.

@Myrkkin: We did this to prove the mass of people wrong, at least on the forums. It seemed much easier than running it with level 80s w/ full exotic, and I had never played with any of the people before. And yeah, Maestro does scream loudly when down/dying/dead

To me, it makes this game a lot more fun than others. Preference, I believe.

Another vote for Giganticus Lupicus. Very dynamic, fast paced, and there is always a risk of going down no matter how much you know him.

I also like the new AC bosses, especially Rumblus when Grast does not bug out (which hasn’t happened to me yet.) I also like the Howling King, quick and easy if you get it, a pain in the kitten if you don’t.

I wish people had heard us talking and saw us typing. We really are not elitist at all, and I do not understand why you are calling us that, over and over, and over. I have never turned a person down, whether it was their first time, or they didn’t have rares/exotics, or they were at the dungeons level. I have, however, been turned down, eeerm 39 times now on my lvl 74 elementalist for AC explorable. It makes me sad.

Also, I’m for the all-white challenge.

The fact of the matter is, there will be people who are good enough, and there will be people who aren’t. Dungeons aren’t for everyone. They are, like you said, supposed to be a challenge, not only for you, but for the myriad of other players that play this game. Thus, your definition of what might be “incredibly frustrating and difficult” might be a cakewalk to others. Perhaps your bar is just set differently from Arenanet’s.

Aiming an important part of the game soley at elite players is a really dumb move. You’d think Anet would know better.

Change de Ele for a Engie or the Guardi for a Thief (or change both) and maybe i take this seriusly. Not all the pugs has an Ele and an Guardi so conveniently for the icebow and the stability that they may bring to AC.

I am the same as Mourningcry, I can also re-gear as needed.

And I (a man) was the one who ran through AC story and it was a breeze, didn’t down once and had 3 newcomers, all at 30-45. I think I have a semi-grasp on my mesmer.

You cannot compare a single player game to a MMORPG.

And Skyrim, imo, was boring. After 32 hours and playing through the storyline in 4, completing most of the daedric quests, I was just bored.

We (I’m one of the people in Maestros dungeon group) must handicap ourselves because if we do not, people will claim we are not legitimate, and we agreed to it willingly, accepting the challenge. I personally have no issue, but I hope there is not something else that will be added on; like we used utilities to our advantage and that doesn’t count etc etc.

I’ll do voice call. Don’t laugh at me when I die on my mes though, it may take a death to get used to it.

My computer is not good enough to run fraps + GW2 at high fps, so I will just be screenshotting the death of each boss.

My guild will have this done soon, I just need to raise my mesmer from 23 → 35, but I’d love to do it a second time. Challenges are fun.

Nah, I’ve had plenty of experiences, it’s just that they NEED to fix these and it seems that it is not coming to their attention. At. All.

I enjoy CM with people who listen – it can be hell if people run and grab all of the groups of trash at once, quick dungeon once you get it down.

HOTW…I agree. The bosses most definitely have too much health.

Dang, people who use this sure are defensive; do you find finding safe spots fun and exciting? Do you really believe that using a consumable item to MAKE A BOSS COMPLETELY DEFENSELESS is not an exploit? And what’s with this “Oh all warriors/guards?” I ran a 65 ele in the dungeon. The 2 guardians and 1 warrior were to focused on cheesing the fight to face tank anything, which I assure you they could not do. Also, I run thief/necro in a lot of dungeons and have no need to cheese fights.

I would love to rid of people who exploit using the portal gun, but you know what? doing that would annihilate a large portion of the player base instantly. So yes, sarcasmic, in this case, it is the portal guns fault and it is Anets fault that they leave areas where people can teleport to and /afk the boss, then go on the forums and complain about it.

People only ran old AC for fast, easy gold. That’s why they liked it – same with me. Now, it’s fast, easy, and fun gold.

So, I join an AC group on my LvL 65 elementalist, there are 4 LvL 80s, a warrior, 2 guardians, and an engie. They have no issue with me being under level, yet they try to tell me how to do things, like collecting scepters for hodgins, when I’ve already completed it, telling me what utilities to use, etc.

So then we get to the Howling King. Two of them say, “We can get on the ledge using a portal gun”

I say, “What is that?”

“A safe spot, can’t get hit, stand here and…”

The Howling King was already upon us, aggro-ed by one of the smarties, his scavengers were spawning and knocking down the would be exploiters. Cursing at the stupidity of Anet, they kept trying. I took the howling king to the main battle ground while they tried to do this, while frantically typing, “Guys, it will be easier to just do it normal, and a lot more fun. Should be super easy because your all LvL 80 too.” No response, they are now being killed by the scavengers. One more player and I are up, while I kite the king, he raises the others, and I say, “Just do it normally, this is a waste of time, stop being chickens.” I guess they finally got it after wasting 10 mins trying to exploit. The king fell around 2 mins later.

I don’t understand Anets intention on allowing portal guns in dungeons, if they are not going to fix areas where people can exploit and /afk bosses.

My guild is also raising some chars to 35 atm, but they’re going to slow. I may have my mesmer to 35 today if you still need more. Just say a time.

Well there is your problem. You are a veteran, playing a dungeon meant for new players.

Do you really think someone that picked up the game a week ago, is lacking rings, has a level 16 sword and barely understands how the targeting system works, has any chance of beating the new AC, even if he tries a hundred times?

That person should run AC story. After running that, they will see they need to buy rings, find a lvl 30 sword, look up/ask how targeting works, and then he should be fine. I failed a lot when I first ran dungeons, I wiped around 30 times in AC story.

They’re fixing the bad fps lag in areas of the game it looks like.

On my warrior, I added some knights pieces and I know swap to axe/shield in dungeons where I know I need to have some more defense instead of my usual axe/mace.

In a dev post earlier it said they were looking into revamping basically all dungeons, I’m guessing kinda like they did AC. This will most likely raise the difficulty of all dungeons, and make them require smart thinking and teamwork, kinda like Arah does now.

Well, a lot of people complained about it beforehand, so criticize them and not ANet, they just did what these people called for.

Really? I literally know of no-one who ever complained about AC exploration needing to be change…

Many people said the bosses HP needed to be lowered and special attacks/more abilities should be added. People complained that trash was too easy and just tedious due to high HP – now the hp have been drastically lowered and the trash now have stronger abilites.

First of all, I’ll state that I believe the new Ascalonion Catacombs is great. This is coming from someone who got a lot of gold from that dungeon, has 3000+ tears, and has LvLed two characters to 80 through it.

Sure, it’s great for geared level 80s with a lot of experience. Think about a level 35 (you know, since that’s what level the dungeon is) and a completely new player (you know, since it’s the first dungeon in the game) and how their experience might go.

They will die, a lot. They, if they would like to play dungeons, will learn from their mistakes, adjust to situations, and ask for help. I for one, gladly take in and help new players with dungeons. I know others are different, but I have no issue taking an extra 1/2 hr – hr explaining/wiping a couple times if it means that the new player will learn.

I died a lot when first running old ac, heck, story mode doing it the first time took my group 4 hours! We managed though, and boy were we challenged by explorable first time. 2-3 hrs PER PATH no joke.

I did not quit, others shouldn’t right away either if they want to play dungeons. It takes patience.

In no way do I sit at home and play this all day, I go to school, maintain perfect scores, and play in a sport. In no way do I run this to the point of redundancy, the game has been out for 6 months, 3000/60 is 50 runs of AC over the course of 6 months. Not that much time is needed to gain that many tears.

Rumblus’s howl was bugged and fixed a month ago – its range was adjusted to the normal one, and if your running around ranging him, I’m, sorry to say but you are doing it wrong.

PUGs will learn this dungeon in a week or two and will stop complaining. This is the exact uproar that occurred at launch – AAAAGH AC TOO HARD! It will cease soon enough, but perhaps to far into the future that the devs will respond and nerf it into oblivion.

To solve the issue for the Ghost Eater: use the Call Target function, you can key map it to a key of your choice in the control options. It places a target above an enemies head and is perfect during this encounter. Type out: X use the levitation 1 ability Y use the pull 2 ability. Communicate a bit, it can go a long way.

And, last but not least, I never said the dungeon was easy. At the moment, to most people, it is as challenging as AC was at the beginning of the game. I find it very fun – it rewards people for working together and following the mechanics, and punishing others for trying to ignore them and range through it, dodging those 1 hit wonders.

NO. It is completely unfair to the casual gamer. I don’t sit around playing all day everyday and it is completely unreasonable to expect people like myself to be able to do this dungeon sub level 80 without full exotics/ascended gear. Especially now that I can’t WP rush either! Most of us don’t have time to sit around discussing utilities and tactics, and Anet really needs to pull their finger out and cater to us, like some easier version of dungeons that can be solo’d.
