There would be close to no climb for legendary players. And I think it rewards lower level players too much.
This is how it should have been to start, though I’d probably go further and suggest that the losing team also get a varying spread that works in the same direction.
The whole point is to let pips catch up to MMR. If everyone on a losing team loses 2 pips, the effect would be slowed down unnecessarily. The best of the losing team shouldn’t lose more than one.
It’s also vitally important that pip safety nets be removed.
The problem with having a varying spread for losing is that it makes it ever harder for the people with low MMR to get pips. Imagine if they lost 5 pips for losing and only gained 1 for winning. I would personally quit very quickly as there is no progression.
Also, losing is a shared responsibility. For example, the top MMR guy shouting and flaming in chat is definitely not helping the team and should be punished accordingly.
I think it is fine for pips to be inflationary as long as better players go up quicker than worse players. This way, you could grind your way up (rewarding playing) yet get there in 20% of the time if you were good.
Bad players shouldn’t be gaining pips, so this is by design. Also the person who rages in team chat is typically not the highest mmr on the team.
Trash players talk trash.
It is so easy to carry in this game, you can literally 3v1 in the low mmr bracket so there is zero excuse for not being able to get out of it except get better.
I can think of 1 player who rages in team chat who’s going to world’s *cough

Warriors, Thieves, Guards, Revs and Rangers currently just obliterate every other class. It’s great that you’ve managed to reasonable balance those classes with each other, but unfortunately are still 4 other classes. If we play those other classes should we just stop playing PvP now or will balance be fixed via hotfix?
There will ALWAYS be classes no matter what game that are better at 1v1(Based on your post that is what it seems you are talking about). Especially considering you didn’t include Scrapper and Necro in your list who are very good at team fighting. PvP in GW2 is so much more than your post suggests. What about map rotations? or recognizing classes that you shouldn’t 1v1 on your class? Those are things that people should focus on. Not “This class keeps beating me.”

Something already DOES counter condi builds. Team play and aoe condi remover. Being completely invuln to condis completely rules out the option for a condi spec to go 1v1 an outer node. It isn’t like Eles don’t have a tun of condi remover on short CD’s.
For somebody not willingly to have a losing matching up on his “1vs1 list”…you do surely talk big.
You didn’t like the idea of moving away from a 1vs1 and instead you spent weeks crying about eles
Recognize classes that you shouldn’t 1vs1 and move away from them?
Meh. I admit that was a qq thread that I posted one day and didn’t go back to much, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. I’ve moved away from that thought process during games and it is much more successful to play around what you are given than to push into stupid situation then come qq about it….. But thanks for forum sniping me, do you have any thoughts personally on my statement? Do you disagree that there are smarter ways to play the game? Or are you just all around salty and are trying to refute any comment positive towards the game?
Season 4 looks great from what I have seen so far. I just reached sapphire tier 3 after playing 20 games today (solo queue) and most of them were close and fun. I am seeing a lot of pro players on my team and against me as well as many good players who I fought in legendary last season so it is great to be fighting players who made it to high legendary last season because before this season, sapphire and Ruby basically consisted of me absolutely destroying almost everyone in 1v1s and winning games very easily which is both not fun and does not make me improve as a player. I think season 1 style matchmaking is a step in the right direction.
I agree. My matches have been very close and competitive. Last season every game was a landslide one way or another. This season, the matches are way more engaging and fun. I’m glad to see other people rise above the qq train and be honest with the state of the season.
This seasons just as bad if not worse than before.
- Premade 5man guild teams vs my entire team randoms Check
- Class stacking is still rampant. Check
- Absurd amount of passive defenses that reward poor play Check
- Absurd amounts of high damage/application AoE Check
- Over inflated elite specs. Check
- Next to no viable build diversity Check
- Matchmaking geared for 50/50 to make it a grind fest Check
It’s been one evening kitten …. How can you judge a whole season on one evenings play? That makes no sense. There is always a time at the beginning of a season for people to get to their prospective divisions and games are iffy.
I got legendary badge from all seasons, and x6 last one. This season i started on sapphire like season 3 and played 9 games against top tier teams-players.
Looks like;
- Druid and Revenant clearly OP.
- Warrior, Thief and Mesmer are same
- Necromancer and Engineer are dead
- Dragon Hunter playable on low tiers but they are trash on top tier. Has no chance against druid or rev
- Have no idea about Elementalist. I haven’t even seen oneMy meta team choice is Druid, 2 Rev, Mesmer, Warrior.
Necro + Scrapper is the most OP combination right now…. idk how they made it to your “Dead” list…
Everyone knows Guardians are too rewarding in regards to how easy they are to play.
Every 2-3 matches I end up in a match with 5, 6 or even 7 guards!
They cover the cap points with traps, it’s totally breaking the game mode.
If that’s not an indication of how broken they are I don’t know what is.Yeah they’re not going to make balance updates until the end of the season, I don’t think they make changes mid season unless something is horribly overpowered.
Even if they do make changes after, I don’t think there is anyone left that believes that the balance team can actually improve the balance at this point. All they’ve done in the last year is make things worse.
Do you not remember season 1 where only 2 builds could be played to rek all other comps? The Devs have done great work in the last few months to bring GW2 back from the worst time it has ever had in regards to balance. You are letting your rage against DH shadow the logic that Anet is actually doing good work to progress pvp in the way that it should go.

You can progress as a solo queuer… I would say that solo queueing is the best way to grow as a player because you have to rely on your own rotations to make a difference. Notice I said rotations not mechanics, focus more on where you need to be and how you can change the tides of the game. I have progressed to legend solo q every season with builds that are far from being meta. In solo queue rotations and placement are more important than build imo.
This always happens at the beginning of seasons. Everyone is making their way to the division that they belong in. You can’t expect not to get placed against people better than you at this point.
WHAT IS A “NO” BUTTON ANET? ?!? MATCHMAKING ALREADY TAKES LONG ENOUGH BECAUSE DEAD GAME MODE. THE 15+ SECONDS IN MATCH WONT MAKE ME BUY MORE GEMS.
Ranked queues were like 30 seconds for me all of last night in Sapphire, I’m pretty sure you are just talking out your butt… idk what you are complaining about…. It is like 5-10 seconds after the match that you have to wait.
A /resign function like in GW1 would be nice for times when you are placed in a 4v5. Or the other team snowballs on legacy and you just want to get out and start a new game.
@OP…. You said the games are close. What more do you want? Last season the games were always favored to one side and people complained. Now there is a thread on games being close? People just like to complain
Thanks for always being there for us!
The delay is there so players who accept the party don’t leave the match early and and get back to the lobby before the party is actually created. Otherwise they’d be able to queue and then get kicked out, and it’s just all sorts of weird user experiences.
However if someone doesn’t intend on joining the party anyways, there is no harm in letting them leave early other than maybe slightly less usage of the feature.
wtf? ive never even heard of this being a problem. I dont think it has even been mentioned in threads. So this timer isnt a weird user experience? this is about the 3rd thread ive seen dedicated to this timer.
Please stop making changes to fix issues that create other issues, especially when your fixes arent even needed.
That’s some unwarranted hostility my man…. Evan was agreeing with the fact that there is no harm in letting people who opt out of joining the team leave early. Evan is continually working with the pvp community on QoL stuff and doesn’t deserve that.
And the fact that this thread has become a place for advice on playing against certain classes proves that the main issue is just to l2p.
Face it the issue we have is that this is the best feeling game out right now. The only reason people want to quit is because the the devs don’t listen to the players. This game still has the opportunity to become a standard game as big as wow if they will humble themselves and try to improve rather than being stubborn. There is either allot of potential for this game in the future or some other developer who catches wind of equalized pvp, customizable limited skill-bars, and action combat will be successful instead.
The devs HAVE been listening to the players. The last patch alone had so much stuff in it that you can find from forums. “NEW MAPS!!” “FIX SKYHAMMER!!” “QUEUE OUTSIDE MISTS!!” “MAKE ALL CLASSES VIABLE!!” “MORE BUILD DIVERSITY” (and yes it is a step up from a few months ago). Good grief people, how are you so blind. They ARE taking players suggestions into account. The reality is, most people ‘suggesting’ are just complaining about their own issues dealing with a class or personal preferences that make no sense for the state of the game.
This is very true. I used to have 6 builds I could run and do well with on mesmer. Now I have to use chronomancer to keep up with other chronomancers. I can’t run phantasms at all, I can’t run power shatter because damage is too low now. I can’t run boon based builds with the boon strip. The blocking based builds I used to find situation-ally fun are nonviable such as scepter sword. Mesmer tanks are gone and can nolonger live a point without stealth much less hold.
I have been playing since beta too… I consider myself one of the best mechanical Mesmers in NA even though I don’t participate in tournaments (I think some pro leaguers would agree). And I have been playing power shatter, condi shatter, mistrust, and chrono meta and they all are viable for soloq. I’m working on a vast list of all builds for each class that are viable for soloq and FUN. Will post in a few days probably.
Mesmer is by no means OP atm. The only reason it gets flack is because low level players cannot see that the real Mesmer can move back and forth sideways and the other ones just stand still then rush straight at you. I realize that that is just a SUPER hard thing to grasp……
PvP is great atm guys. What is your problem? All classes are viable (don’t give me the ele sucks bull), Every class was played in the Qualifiers. There is a new map that is fun, they are working on making skyhammer and spiritwatch competitive. They are meeting a lot of QoL issues like queueing outside of the mists…. PvP hasn’t been this good in a long time. If your problem is “balance” then L2P against the classes that are hurting you. Not everything is devs fault. The point of PvP is to grow in skill, not to complain and be handed an OP build.
Delpfine Out
It’s pretty awesome that there are so many different answers. Anet really did do a good job this balance patch despite all of the QQing.
The only people that are complaining about Mesmer, are those that have no clue how to fight Mesmers. Mesmer is not massively OP atm. Learn to fight them. Go practice and get off these forums. Best of luck.
Play ranked
NA didn’t even use Mesmer in the last finals…. So OP
One of the mods was banning every single person that had the word “mod” in their post. Not all of them were bad too.
Banned for 24 hours now. poooo
We aren’t looking for sympathy. Just informing anet of a problem. Stop trying to think everything is directed toward you.
Second legendary didn’t seem to increase my queue times either @Miyu.
I have observed that it isn’t just that there isn’t enough people. I have seen that there are plenty of people queueing in legendary, however, it still takes forever to get matched with the same people over and over…. Atleast shorten those queue times if it is going to be with the same people.
This is a real problem. I have been facing this all season being one of the first 10 to legendary. Even before legendary the diamond queue times would be 1 hour +. Now being in prestige 2 legendary I can be in a queue for 40 minutes in a prime-time hour when I can obviously see that there are enough legendary players queuing from my guild and friends list.
Last night I was getting into sequential games with hammergaurd and even though the games consisted of the same players it still took 20 minutes to queue up. All of us queued up immediately but there is something in the system that doesn’t match the teams until after a certain period of checking for better options.
The games were really good too. Teams were well matched. System just doesn’t get it.
This will be changed for an upcoming update so that disconnecting will not cause a desertion for party members if they win. The player who abandoned the match will still get a desertion.
You guys fixed “We Heal As One” in 12 hours. How is it that something so ridiculous isn’t fixed already. Helseth announced this bug on the second day of leagues.
Maybe because your overall division was higher than theirs?
You seem to be Sapphire (halfway through even :o ), whereas most of the people I currently see are still in emerald (halfway or just broke through)
I’m pretty sure the other team was mostly all sapphire.. I know most of them and see them around
Hey guys. Just had a game against a full premade (didn’t take the screen before the team markers went away) but I played them more than once…. Anyway, my team was full pug solo queuers. Our score was 419 to 500! Yet we all still lost a pip. How was 419 points not breaking one of the point thresholds since we were the underdog?
Not raging just curious as to if y’all think this is far.
Unblockable cc on the block. DH trap daze or warding walls (if they move around), necro corruptions or fear mark, shocking aura (works on evasion too), DH heavy light proc from deflecting shot, DH chain yank thing, rev shiro-port followed by a cc.
The mitigation combo is strong but fragile. If you can break the chaining of defense, substantial gaps of vulnerability occur. All of the cc I listed is capable of breaking one or more portions of the chronobunker defense chain. Used appropriately, you can knock a chronomancer out of the defense and kill them in short order.
Really the only thing that can consistently counter are the two completely overpowered classes at the moment.
DH and Rev……
Just encourages more people to jump on the bandwagon…..
Why don’t rangers get some instant traps?! Since DH has them….
I realize people say power vs. condi traps are different but this is completely about QoL not about the effects of their traps.
Instant Spike trap would be wonderful!
Thoughts?
I think it’s healthy for the game that something counters condi builds.
Something already DOES counter condi builds. Team play and aoe condi remover. Being completely invuln to condis completely rules out the option for a condi spec to go 1v1 an outer node. It isn’t like Eles don’t have a tun of condi remover on short CD’s.
This trait completely counters certain builds. It is ridiculous that all you have to do is use one trait and another player is completely rendered useless.
I understand people will come back saying “don’t play full condi specs”, L2P, Etc. However, I think it is bad design for a single trait to completely make another player completely ineffective.
Thoughts?
How do you think it could be changed?
If you are using desperate decoy it will interrupt your stomps/rezzes when it activates at 50% health
I’m lucky if I queue into a game before 10 minutes. And when I do finally get into a match sometimes it is with players who confess it is their 3rd time in a match.
So basically the system waits so long to find players with high mmr for me, then it gives up and gives me baddies? I don’t know, doesn’t really make sense to me.
