WTF NECRO COMBO FINISHERS???

Why don’t we get blast finishers?

Same reason mesmers don’t. Mesmers, quite literally, have ONE blast finisher. And it’s on the torch, one of the least liked weapons they have.

Really, using the thought of profession Y has X, so we should too! is a terrible way to balance things.

Necromancers are fine. They’re the best they’ve been since the game launched. It’s just that blast finishers aren’t their forte (and isn’t the staff blast finisher actually two—one when it’s cast and another when it’s triggered?).

I’m pretty sure Necro support comes from things called Wells. The Siphon health trait line always helps, able to apply party healing. It is a bit weak now, yes, but guess which tree is getting buffed by Anet next? :P

So, apparently, to be a good thief, you attack people who are running away and you blind stomp.

I mean, really, is this supposed to be impressive? It’s painfully generic. The video may as well be named “Guy uses sub-optimal weaponset, kills scrubs”. The person in the video is fighting such awesome opponents as a warrior with gs/sword sword. At pretty much no point did I not see the guy’s team behind on points if not outright dominating.

The thief is obviously skilled and uses his steal smartly, as well as avoiding damage and the like. I just think the video could have been done a lot better.

Basically, pick the class you enjoy.

Personally, I find the elementalist exceedingly weak, having a glass jaw even with full tankyness, limited number of weapons meaning you’ll be using the same rotation again and again because massive cooldowns, and just a generally poor class design. I also find conjured weapons to be a gimmick that uninterests me.

The Guardian is widely regarded as one of if not the most powerful, balanced class in the game. I also find them quite boring. I can’t really give you a reason, I just find them that way, though that may be my fault for not exploring all their options.

I find necromancers tolerable. They have a speed signet so they aren’t slow as molasses. They have decent build options (which are about two, because two builds are better than some profession’s zero) with a focus on either power or conditions, though there are many minor variations, much like the Guardian. They’re also widely feared and respected. They aren’t particularly sought after in dungeons, but then again, no professions other than warrior, Mesmer, and guardian are.

This is one reason you have to look at the entire system when trying to gauge. You are completely correct, Guardians may or may not actually be OP. It may actually be that just the system as a whole is slightly out of whack. Its one reason that Anet devs need to make minor, slow changes and gather good data in between.

I mostly agree with this, though I believe that a couple of professions outright and several trait lines are so completely broken that it will require significant and drastic changes. Elementalist and thief are particularly broken, for example. They have really awkward mechanics, poorly designed trait lines, and vaguely defined vision.

This is why the Guardian is so powerful. The Guardian has an excellent base and its traits were decently designed. On top of that, nearly all of its weapons are useful in some form or another. It’s pretty much the only class that can go Damage, Support, and Defense, though obviously it’s better at tanking and support than DPS, but Anet seems to be willing to change that. It really is the gold standard class and Anet continues to dote on them while ignoring or gutting other professions, which is bound to create some resentment.

Right now, Warrior is in a good place. Once a few things are adjusted, it should be nearly as popular as the Guardian in most modes of play. My worry is that the player base has gotten used to Anet milk feeding them and will throw a major whine-fest when other professions are brought up to average instead of ‘free kills’.

By your logic – by pure numbers – the Guardian must be the most overpowered profession. In reality however, the Guardian is the most balanced profession. You have to evaluate the professions in the context of the team composition.

See, I think there’s a misconception here.

Everyone seems to think that the Guardian is either balanced, unbalanced (not OP or UP, just unbalanced) or just OP.

It’s really weird. I’m wondering if the Guardian really is balanced but can’t be seen for it because no other class is. Or, maybe, it really is OP because it’s balanced and no other class is.

Still, regardless, Guardians do their job exceptionally well, more so than any other profession. Which really is a shame, if you think about it.

Why Am I Losing 1on1 ?

Lina.9640

GS, pvp-wise, has really kittenty auto attack damage. Literally any other semi-tanky spec will absolutely giggle if you switch to it during a fight because all they have to do is watch out for 100b and not fight against some place you can WW against for massive damage and they can just wittle you down to nothing. The biggest threat against a GS warrior is the fact that they can usually run away before you can kill them.

Which is where the mace comes in, but that spec won’t be very viable for much longer, so.

It also depends on where you’re fighting. In WvW, I can see some problems, especially if you’re not aware of certain things (like food).

But really, I don’t see how anyone loses to elementalist unless it’s a skill problem. At this point, unless you’re pure glass, you can almost completely mitigate ele’s damage with the healing signet alone.

Thief Stealth = Worst Mistake In The Game

much exaggeration in this thread
stealth is not broken, not poorly designed. the problem is 1 trait…infusion of shadow…give it a internal cd of 3sec and evrything will be good.

In every MMO it’s appeared in, any type of cloak/stealth as it works in GW2 (in combat use and/or spammable), it’s either been A ) overpowered or B ) Useless.

I’m pretty sure it’s not B, so…

For the record, I do play thief. I don’t particularly have a problem with thieves and I’ve never died to a thief when I wouldn’t have died to something else (except Ele because lol).

My problem with thief is simply that they can engage and disengage without fear. At all. In WvW, one thief can engage five or more players without having to worry at all. Likewise, thieves can say that the situation’s too hot for them and leave, just as easily.

Fact of the matter is, if thieves are dumb and screw up, they should be punished for it. The current perma stealth meta doesn’t apply this unlike every other profession.

Frankly, at this point, I’m hoping Anet does release an expansion as that will be the perfect excuse for them to radically revise some professions, like thief and elementalist. Because, right now, they’re both broken to hell, and quite boring to play against.

I don’t hate thieves and I don’t want them to be nerfed into oblivion. However, right now, in the current game, thieves are simply an excuse for bad players to get easy kills, use cheap tactics, and feel good about themselves for doing it. I personally think that’s a disservice to the people who genuinely enjoy the class, and I’d like to see it fixed.

State of the Elementalist (Discussion)

in Elementalist

Posted by: Lina.9640

Lina.9640

Let me say that I don’t think the elementalist, or any, balancing should be done based on profession X can do Y for Z so much better than us! What I mean to say is, if your idea of balancing one class is to nerf another then it’s already pretty full of fail.

With that in mind, I’d like to say that any minor changes to Ele at this point (which are the only changes Anet is interested in making) is pointless. It may increase viability, sure, but it won’t mean that the elementalist is a well-designed profession.

In short, the Ele basically needs a total redesign. Well, maybe not total, but basically the only thing we need to keep is the concept Anet wants to design the class around because right now, they don’t have one and the Ele’s mechanics actively contradict each other.

Traits need to be reworked to benefit every attunement.

Cooldowns need to be revisited. I don’t care if we have twice as many weapon skills as everyone else, having multiple 40+ second cooldowns is stupid. And then you have skills like fire shield…

Attunement swapping cooldowns need to be adjusted. Frankly, I’d rather there be a base 9 second attunement swap with perhaps a minor trait somewhere that reduces it to 5 seconds. This goes hand in hand with the cooldown restructuring I mentioned above because right now, we rely on combinations of long cooldown skills to be useful within specific attunements. Once those skills are on cooldown, Ele’s are out of options. I think perhaps Anet has fooled themselves into thinking it works out so fluidly when it’s just nerf on top of nerf.

Then there’s the other matter of our pathetic auto attacks, low HP without any active or damage mitigation skills that don’t have close to or over a minute cooldown, and so forth.

The way certain skills work. Skills that miss a ridiculous amount of time or are stupid easy to dodge. Skills that have a really long cast time for not much pay off (Air Staff 2, looking at you), things of that nature.

With all of the above, new weapon options.

I know it’s in the far future, probably over a year away, but they need to be discussed. The Ele needs better, more focused options. The weapons now are currently too ‘generalist’ so what we need are more focused weapons—weapons that when you look at, you know they’re a condition weapon or a power weapon or long-ranged weapon.

On a side note, Anet is so enamored with conjure weapons because they’re easier to balance, being only 5 skills instead of 8-20. Other classes can also use them, which I imagine is their key draw to their balancing since it’s pretty obvious that Anet is unable or unwilling to touch the Elementalist besides petty nerfs and UI/tooltip adjusting.

Knight’s armor, 2x sup monk, 2x sup water, 2x sup traveler. Celestial trinkets, whatever weapons (knight’s, soldier’s, berserker’s, etc). Sigil of battle on one dagger, whatever on the next.

I’m running 0-15-10-15-30. Use renewing stamina instead of that arcane whichever. Basically plays the same as the standard D/D you’re used to, but you will feel the nerfs to defense Anet intended.

My ele is running PvE & WvW with this build. I like this because this does not limit you to one attunement like fire trail line does.

Damage:
- Critical hits cause vulnerability (60% change)
- More damage (2%) per each boon on you
- 20% more damage to foes with less than 33% health (all attunements)
- Extra 10% damage when health is above 90% (all attunements)
- Fury + attunement bonus boon from attunement swaps (boons = more damage)
- Glyphs recharge 20% faster (heal, elite & utility are glyphs)

Support:
- Remove a condition from you and your allies when attuning to water
- Heal nearby allies when attuning to water

My gear is PVT with 50% boon duration runes (2x monk, 2x water). Trinkets are Berserker. Staff is either Berserker or PVT (depends how group is doing, if things are hard I swap to PVT staff). See Buildcraft link for more detailed armor

Build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEAQFAWhImmbwx0gjDAUGmgikRFWUUMzOA
Buildcraft (armor): http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/elementalist/?1.0|6.1g.h1|0.0.0.0.0.0|1c.71h.1c.71h.1c.71g.1c.71g.1c.a7.1c.a7|2s.d1e.2s.d1e.3s.d1e.1g.67.1g.67.2s.d1e|0.p36.0.p56.k58|2e.7|1m.1u.1s.23.29|e

Link of stats from Buildcraft with Berserker and PVT staff:

Bountiful Power only gives 1% bonus to damage, not 2%.

You really should run Arcane Wave if you’re with a group. As an ele, your only purpose is support. The majority of your support comes from combo fields, so unless you’re running with a SB thief or two, you probably should take Arcane Wave to help with might stacking, healing via water fields, haste from static field, etc.

Consider ditching the ruby orbs in the armor for two Runes of the Traveler, for an additional 15% boon upkeep. This should allow you to ditch the accuracy sigil for a sigil of battle, since the increased boon duration will keep fury up longer. Heck, you could take two staves, one the build up precision counts and a battle staff to switch when you have 25 stacks.

EDIT: And now I see this was a thread necro. Poo.

Elementalist Discussion

Lina.9640

Thing is, about survivability, Elementalist cannot both do damage and have survivability (anymore). Even the D/D at the height of its power would be eaten alive by the current meta.

The ele simply doesn’t have the tools it needs to survive the tiny health pool, the low armor, and lack of mitigation that other classes can ‘cheat’ with, like thieves and mesmers.

On top of that, the longest range weapon the ele has is staff. The staff is a support weapon. Or supposed to be, anyway.

The other two weapon sets are short ranged. Focus is generally considered to be a joke.

Maybe a long range power or condi (or both) weapon might act as a stop-gap, but still, Elementalists have a pretty raw deal.

Unfortunately, Anet seems stuck on some things, like Elementalists currently should work like in GW1. Or that Elementalists are squishy wizards so they must have the lowest armor and lowest HP in the game.

At least they’ve hit Ele versatility in the right spot. In all modes, in all roles, Ele’s are simply mediocre. At best.

Frankly, they should revamp the trait lines and separate it from attunements to concepts of the class that can be utilized in ALL attunements. No more X% bonus damage on Y attunement or any of that nonsense.

Force, Entropy, Plasma, etc, whatever.

How... Is... This... Possible...

in Elementalist

Posted by: Lina.9640

Lina.9640

The reason why Elementalists are terrible is because they were designed extremely poorly. In essence, Anet designed them like the game were still GW1, where elementalists went one or two elements and that was it.

The trait lines reflect this. In short, most traits reward an elementalist for sticking in one attunement and only apply benefits for there, usually in a backwards sort of way. The reason why D/D was so powerful/useful was that its traits benefited the ele in almost all attunements.

This thought process might be okay, except the cooldowns for Ele skills are based around attunement switching, so you cannot spend all your time in one attunement unless you really, really enjoy auto attacking for a fifth of the damage that everyone else does.

And on top of that, the attunement recharge times are complete crap as well. Unless you invest heavily into the Arcane tree, then juggling through your most useful attunements that you may have invested in simply cannot be done.

This is why Elementalists are considered a joke of a class. In WvW, they’re taken for mobile field generators and that’s pretty much it. In PvE, there’s at least two or three builds that can do whatever an elementalist can do, if not better, on top of offering something else, like DPS. The only moderately attractive PvE build for elementalists is lightning hammer—which is what I’m sure everyone in the class wants, a build that plays like a warrior.

There’s no mystic left for the elementalist. There’s no threat about them. When was the last time someone went into WvW, saw an elementalist, and thought they were a threat? Odds are, most everyone just thought correctly that they were a free kill.

But oh yeah, they’re in an okay place. Sure. I mean, you could take D/D at the height of its power and toss it into the current game, and it still wouldn’t be anywhere near the top.

In short, it will take almost a complete overhaul of the elementalist to fix their fundamental problems. Anet simply won’t do this, either because it’s against their design decision of glacial changes or because they have too much on their plate.

The only thing elementalists can hope for is that some of the new weapon options will act as a bandaid for our problems.

Irony nerfs:

D/D getting repeatedly nerf (most recently, the extremely uncalled for RTL nerf, which was a range and cooldown nerf, on top of the other ones it had received) because it’s ‘too mobile’. Know what class is far, far more mobile than D/D eles? Warriors. Thieves.

EA gets nerfed because it creates ‘too many’ blast finishers—first all blasts were removed from it, then Anet decides to graciously allow us to retain the Earth attunement blast bonus. So glad there’s not another class out there—like, say, engineer—with access to really good fields—like, say, water and smoke—and a plethora of blast finishers.

Since when is Green the best keep? I would take Red any day. That is not even counting the fact that Green keep’s south double gates are bugged allowing flame rams from the first gate to hit the second gate.

Back before the random slots started, here’s what happened: the team that was predicted to win would get green. Then the second team would get blue. Lastly, there’d be red.

Green is the best keep simply because it’s in the most easily defended spot on the map. All that water makes running around harder for invading forces. Quentin is a nice plug that no one really seems to want to pass except for minor annoyances at Danelon and other supply camps.

Blue is pretty much the worst side of the map. There’s really nothing that gives it an edge, and if blue doesn’t control SM, then the only reason blue can hold Quentin and the other SM-proximity tower is because the forces that do control SM are lazy. What I’m saying is, SM can put up trebs that cannot be countertrebbed by blue.

Red is a great side for a few reasons. The first is, of course, if you control the keep, you control red land. The keep can range anything on their side of the map except one tiny supply camp. Second, the red keep has range on northern SM, meaning it’s the easiest side to do a breach on (green can do it too, but from towers, not a keep).

How matches used to run would be this: since green would have the best defense by virtue of their position and the most people (because coverage is the only thing that matters), they would start the match by curbstomping red’s keep. Once that fell, they’d treb it up and proceed to claim red’s lands. Then they’d turn their attention on blue after neutering red.

Now, of course, matches end up with the side with the most people/off-hour coverage can start in, say, red.

It really is pretty sad because EBG really is a pretty well designed asymmetrical map.

How would you change Confusion?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Lina.9640

Lina.9640

I’d simply have that Mesmers get a trait somewhere that, whenever an attack that would inflict confusion hits someone that already have an existing condition (including confusion), another damaging condition—bleed, poison, burning—procs on said target.

Voila, confusion doesn’t suck and mesmers have a condition build, and it still has a random element that Anet is in love with for the Mesmer.

Things you dont like about mesmer.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Lina.9640

Lina.9640

I don’t like the fact that the Mesmer’s ‘random’ elements were poorly thought out (vulnerability on staff, anyone? the recent chaos armor adjustment?).

I dislike that some of the weapons are way off or just vastly inferior to our ‘standard’ weapons, like the scepter which is generally considered to be one of the worst weapons in the game (on Mesmer). Other weapons need some of its skills adjusted—the temporal curtain, for example, needs to be the same height as the guardian wall, because right now it’s freaking annoying to see high arcing attacks just poof by it.

Cooldowns are freaking dumb on some of our skills. Portal, for example. Yes, it has a lot of uses in the utility department, what with being able to deliver people to areas quickly and easily. However, it should still retain a tactical use in combat. Right now it’s crippled by a freaking 90 second cooldown. In a world where warriors can get two invulnerabilities on 60 second cooldowns (on top of, say, shield blocks) and thieves can permastealth, I see no reason for portal to not have a 60 second cooldown and turned into a manipulation, especially since its abusability is severely limited from having a 20 person cap. (Veil I can see keeping the cooldown because it scales up to, well, everyone).

Temporal Curtain swiftness needs to stack with other swiftness. I don’t care what Anet’s reasoning was, there’s no reason not to. It just creates some down time between each swiftness, waiting for it to wear off, while Guardians can stack their pulsing marks from here to eternity and so on.

The lack of finishers. We have a decent amount of fields, but there’s a severe lack of finishers when it comes to mesmers. Since the fields we do have are generally subpar (lolchaosarmor) anyway, Anet may as well embrace the support nature they’re starting to force us into and give us access to more finishers than iWarden, Torch, and….I dunno, shooty pistol phantasm?

The current lack of a viable condition build. Confusion had its damage cut by 50% in WvW, just because, and got nothing for it. Anet should clean up the random elements to certain skills mentioned above and then embrace it for a condi build. For example, they could have it so that every time confusion is applied, a random, damaging condition (bleed, poison, burning, maybe torment) is applied. Also, all illusions could cause bleed on crits by default—the master trait that does this could be changed to apply bleed when the player crits or something. Either that, or embrace the scepter/torch as the Mesmer’s condition weapons and give them consistant ability to provide it.

New swap utility

in Mesmer

Lina.9640

It’d be great. Run up to a keep with cannons, cast a phantasm on it like iWarden or iBerzerker, swap places, and voilla, you’re inside and free to portal all your merry friends in.

In reality, the restrictions placed on a ‘swap’ utility would be stupid.

Anet should really work on making the utilities we have now work correctly or even better. For example, since warriors got endure pain dropped from 90s to 60s, I think it’s only fair that portal be brought down to 60s recharge too and possibly made a Manipulation so it can benefit from the 20% reduction.

I assume in the future one of the above will be nerfed, and they’ll bring down sword’s effectiveness to the scepter’s level, which is fine because focus and pistol will be ‘balanced’ into near uselessness. “In order to give Mesmers more condition options, we’re nerfing all offhand damage by half and giving them a grandmaster trait that will proc one stack of a random condition—vulnerability included—on every crit. 10s internal cooldown. You’re welcome, mesmers.”

As for eles, the nerfs arent so bad. Just very minor. but too early to say

Mesmers had ~15 skills nerfed for about 80% of their builds. Including some really, really dumb ones (like nerfing scepter, of all things).

With the gutting of confusion, most mesmers feel there are now two viable builds
20/20/0/0/30 or
0/20/20/0/30
Pick one.

As for ele’s, they’re used to nerfs, stealth nerfs, and anet generally just breaking everything.

And, of course, guardians receive nothing but buffs. Because why the hell not.

How in the world do I deal with Retaliation?

in WvW

Posted by: Lina.9640

Lina.9640

Just make retaliation’s damage from condition damage instead of from power, which most guardians stack anyway. If guardians want to abuse retaliation (like mesmers allegedly could with confusion), make them work for it—provide a zerg wide field but can’t really do much outside that beside be an already extremely solid class with respectable AoE, not counting the massive might stacks they already get.

Retaliation scaling with power is dumb. It just encourages an already stupid form of play. Honestly, I’d rather have confusion mesmers back than keep the retaliation crap the way it is, at least with confusion mesmers you could cleanse yourself and others (most professions have an AoE cleanse, not even counting things like soldier’s runes) or if you were feeling spunky, you could wait the three to five seconds for most of the confusion stacks to wear off.

I forsee the next trap Anet releasing be a strip boon trap, with retaliation as the top priority.

Now, if they upgraded the rewards you could get from WvW or change the cost of things, like to costing karma, then that’s a different story.

Hey, there’s a thought. Let’s make armor repairs cost karma. WvW players have a crapton of that.

The reason servers are ‘dying’ is because guilds are transfering anyway. Guilds will transfer. It happens. Someone will get kitten and demand a change or they’ll get bored of the same ole same ole on their server and want to leave—especially if they’re on a super zergy server that constantly faces people who generally have an idea of what direction to point siege.

So instead of transfering to another competitive server, a whole bunch of guilds transfer to a low tier server (who didn’t want you) and proceed to have a T1-3 population in, say, Tier 6. Heck, with all the bandwagoning, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kaineng has bloated to the size of at-release HoD.

So yeah, you have a ridiculous amount of people, while at the same time, every not-in-vogue server is steadily losing people who like to transfer to easy-mode servers so they can win without, y’know, trying.

And what, you don’t expect people to call you out on this? We don’t blame you for using your numbers, but don’t try to disguise opportunism as some sort of noble goal. Fact of the matter is, Kaineng has just been steamrolling servers who, frankly, can’t even get a queue even on Friday night resets. Kaineng is winning solely on numbers. They just have more. And they have been doing this for at least a couple weeks.

Unnecessary disincentives for WvW

Frankly, they should just create a fourth (or fifth?) type of game currency specific for WvW—like glory for PvP, karma for PvE, and gold for general use. And then replace all current WvW costs with this currency—everything, including upgrades, invader’s stuff, siege, etc.

This way, Anet could actually just cause this currency to automatically uptick whenever someone does something like kill an opponent, stop a supply yak, take a keep or tower, etc.

Especially since the GW2 engine apparently can’t handle adding things directly to the inventory.

Bunzy is right – night capping is never an issue until it’s being done to you. It’s funny to see YB finally start complaining when they’re the victim after benefiting from it for 2 months.

Now, let’s be honest. Night capping is a huge issue. Or rather, it’s part of the huge issue that is the way the score is tallied. At this point in WvW in all tiers, the only thing that matters is a server’s ability to off-hours cap. They can snag most of the map in an hour and have six to eight hours of 500+ ticks. That’s on the weekend, where there’s a lot more people playing and staying up late. Once you get to the weekdays, it gets even worse. And no servers can close the point gap.

I think it’s safe to say that DB is being carried by their off-hours crew. Their NA coverage is decent, but certainly not up to the standards of this tier. Certainly not up to Ebay or Mag, not even Yaks really.

It’s fine, though. Servers who have a numbers advantage or constant position advantage or cover advantage get fat and lazy.

No armor repairs.

If you aren’t making money in WvW, you need to alter what you are doing.

If you aren’t losing money in WvW you need to start upgrading keeps.

Nah, that’s because…

…upgrading structures is somebody else’s job…

Well, crap.

So what I’ve gotten out of these last few pages is that Maguuma has a secret alliance with both EBay and Yaks simultaneously.

Well, there’s still the whole I-Hate-Ebay hateclub still active in Maguuma, but it also seems a significant portion of your server has stopped wanting to be YB’s JV squad.

Which is a shame, because you all look so cute in those tight little uniforms.

I love being double teamed by yak and mag, it just shows how much of a threat we are. I mean again, I understand you guys need the handicap because your servers skill average is below average, but you would think attacking each other would grant u more points at this point.

Borderlands are designed to encourage the two invaders to tag team the defenders (who have an absurd advantage).

Rest of the map all looks pretty standard. YB’s strategy in EB has always been to smash Red with numbers then move on to blue because it lets them leverage their numbers in the best way (as in, capture the red keep which essentially means you control red’s lands, much in the same way controlling SM means you—should—control the surrounding towers). Mag’s strategy has always been to stab Ebay in the back even if it hurts themselves in the long run.

So, really, nothing out of the ordinary in that picture.

It’s funny, people always say I should go play spvp if I want competitive pvp. I just fought a thief a couple times, tiger finisher (spvp rank40-49) with the champion slayer title (200+ tournament kills), and he wasn’t even remotely challenging. I could probably list at least 10 thieves I’ve fought against who only do wvw that are 10x better.

Make that three times, he jumped me as I was typing this post and still lost.

Yeah, people aren’t typically a threat when you outnumber them three to one or more, which are the only times I see Mag actually fight anyone. Oh, unless the opponent is half health or can’t fight back in some way…

The Fundamental Flaw of WvW.

I wouldn’t say the ranking system itself is flawed, but rather, the way the scoreis taken which affects the ranking system.

Currently, the only thing that matters in WvW—and I mean the ONLY concern—is off hours coverage. That’s it. If your server has more people in the ‘off’ hours, then your server will win. Your teams will PvDoor against a population a quarter of what you can field, fully upgrade and siege everything, and just let the ‘prime time’ population not suck to the point where they only lose about half the map. But during all that time, the linear scores continue ticking away.

Not only does this create a very singular aspect of the format, but it also creates tremendous point holes that are near impossible to retake—especially as time during the week goes on.

So the biggest problem is the way the scores are tallied. Now, I don’t know whether the answer is the base scoring on the number of active opponents in WvW or whether to introduce a decaying points system (you get lesser points for objectives the longer they’re held), but something should be done.

I think the second biggest problem is that Anet hosed up the map design of the game. Specifically, Eternal Battleground. Green simply has too great a defensive advantage, and when you combine that with their typical higher numbers, means they can take all their EB lands and focus on SM—sure, they may lose the occasional supply camp, MAYBE a tower, but I guarantee that in 99% of the time, the green side of EB is held by the green side. At the very least, starting positions in stagnated matches should be randomized to at least keep things fresh.

How quickly EB’s post remind me of all the whining they do, cry more. This is Wv3 we were attacked all night on our BL by both EB and MAG, I was defending until 3am PST and was killing both!

Borderlands are designed to funnel the two attacking teams into the defenders and not towards each other. So if you are getting double teamed (since as defenders, you have the advantage of positioning and starting with towers and keeps and such), then it’s working as intended. If you’re not, it’s either that one side doesn’t have the numbers to do more than harrass or one side is trying to screw over the other.

If they wanted them tradable, they wouldn’t be soulbound.

Heck, they’re not even accountbound. They’re soulbound. That should pretty much tell you Anet’s position on them.

Though, personally, I wish they were account bound.

Emerhy Bay and Maguuma have formed an alliance for next week.
Yak’s Bend watch out. We’re sending you down to T5 where you belong.

I would love this, if only to flip the green side of the map in EB. I mean, seriously, has anyone ever seen that part of the map not constantly green (apart from maybe that one supply camp in the corner).

Numbers advantage and positional advantage. Thanks, Anet.

The Borderlands are designed so that the invading forces are more likely to engage the defenders than each other. YB would know this if anyone ever bothered to put pressure on their lands in primetime.

And lol at Mag teaming up with Ebay. I’m pretty sure Mag exists to screw EB at every possible chance, even if it means that YB can continue to trott along pretty easily.

We need MORE events like Breakout, not less.

in WvW

Posted by: Lina.9640

Lina.9640

WvW needs less PvD and more PvP. And I don’t even mean open field combat, just standard siege warfare inside capture points. Breakout events actually promote leaving the tower undefended for all parties involved, which is outright silly.

And the current system encourages the server with the most overnight coverage to cap the map and upgrade the towers/keep closest to the enemy spawn point in order to effectively bottleneck them—and it’s rather difficult to break into a fully upgraded tower complete with siege with absolutely no help (and heaven help you if you still don’t have the numbers advantage).

The breakout event at the very least encourages the other server to beef up all objectives in the area, allow the enemy to simply retain more or less control of the tower, or commit an absurd amount of resources to its defense.

How to get PvErs into WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Lina.9640

Lina.9640

One at a time.

Your standard player will go into WvW, have no idea what to do, run towards the nearest objective, then die horribly.

Rinse, repeat two or three more times.

Said player now has lost money on broken armor and has nothing to show for it.

However, if you bring said player with, say, a small group or even just a roaming buddy, you can show that person how fun WvW can be, how to play, tips and tricks, etc. They’ll be more likely to return.

Alternatively, a game wide movement to encourage players to not be kitten. I know it’s hard—I oftentimes see one server standing around and congratulating each other on 10v1ing someone, or a maxed geared thief dancing when they ambush a level adjusted character and kill ‘em in like two hits. No, wait, not hard, downright impossible, since servers can’t even keep outright cheaters from doing it. Nevermind.

So yeah, just play with other people not exclusively in your guild, I suppose.

PS Making WvW rewards not-crap would help too.

Lina.9640

Meh, done with Yak’s. It’s just a zerg server. Both in numbers and mentality. I was willing to give ’em another shot, but ya.

I’m gonna be honest. The only time I ever see Mags are when they’re buried in groups, and the only time I don’t see Mag zerging is when they go across the map, ignore multiple YB objectives, and poke EB in the back when they’ve already got their hands full trying to beat off YB. When Mags have anything even close to pariety in numbers, they run away.

Now, I’ll give your server (and you) the benefit of the doubt and not assume that every Mag is a cowardly, bad-mannered cheater, even though that’s what I see.

Maybe you could pretend that YB didn’t just get where they were because of numbers and that they actually have quite a few fun individuals that, say, play to win instead of, I dunno, playing so someone else loses?

Just a thought.
