I agree. I had taken a hiatus after the first living story ended because I was just disappointed. So far this has been fantastic, hope the devs keep it up, nice to see some lore as well!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Man, this thread again…
I guess for the first time ever I’ll post in one and voice my opinion. I’m pretty indifferent, I like the wp system but I wouldn’t straight up hate mounts, as long as they made sense, which honestly in this game I don’t see happening. Like we would end up riding some cartoony quaggan machine or something.
Perhaps a good compromise might be what I’ve seen in other games, where you ride a mount only to get from a predetermined point A to point B. For example, we get a new far shiverpeaks map and in place of (some) waypoints, we ride a dolyak on a predetermined course, and then hop off or something.
But really, I wouldn’t be the least heartbroken if we never saw mounts.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
That’s unfortunate, I can understand the endless loop, that did get annoying, but I’m a little bummed out about the moon no longer glowing continually at night.
Now it seems the weapon is no different during the day or night… that was a big appeal to me.

Well I guess I’m glad to know it isn’t just on my end, this sucks
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
This happened before, its a confirmed bug?
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Boy I hope I am wrong….
I just returned after a break for a few months when the first season of the LS ended. It’s been a few days and I had kept thinking maybe I was just always on daytime maps, but even on night maps I am noticing that my Howler does not animate, show a ghostly moon, or howl any longer. Obviously I can’t really post a screenie of the animation itself or the howling… but this shows the moon that no longer seems to appear. This is going to totally break my heart if its true.
I looked back in old patch notes while I was away and don’t recall seeing anything about it, but maybe I’m wrong. Anyone have some clarification? Thanks!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Just gonna give this a little bump for the afternoon/evening folk to see it… if still no reply I guess I’ll assume it hasn’t been uploaded anywhere or no one knows
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Potential spoilers.
But yeah, THAT scene. I’ve seen plenty of uploads of the final cut scene for the whole episode, but none on this. I’d like to think someone somewhere did put it up. Anyone know?
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I thought of the grub thing as well… but thought if I started nitpicking larval classification I might get too much flack from my OP. But yeah grub belong in coleoptera. As you said, name the mosquito weapon Diptera and the grub weapon a certain beetle family, and that would totally work.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Correction: termites were part of the order Isoptera, but were reclassified as Blattodea in 2007. Here’s the study. So that one’s correct.
Additionally, are we sure those recipes are correct? The staff looks more like a wasp than a mosquito to me.
I wasn’t aware of this, what I listed were names I learned in an entomology course and as a biologist I definitely know how often Linnean classification gets reorganized and reorganized again. So if I’m wrong, then good to know they got that right.
I suppose the mosquito could be a wasp, but I think they already have a wasp weapon and I believe the item to make it is ‘fossilized mosquito’.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Good question… I did this as well after I finished the story. I saw a nice shiny replay button and couldn’t help myself. If I have to replay the first part again its not a huge deal but I’m curious on the answer, if anyone knows yet.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I had no idea about the tybalt mini. I agree though, that’s a shame it went through like that.
While I think about it, Iwonder if I filed a bug report if they would change it… haha, I kill myself sometimes… <_<
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I am also a biologist and I work with insects; I agree that this is cringe-inducing. I work with flies that are closely related to mosquitoes, so that one is literally (read: not literally) killing me.
Also, +1 to you, OP, for “kittenroaches,” though I guess I should be +1’ing the forum filter.
Haha ty, it was totally the filter though. I’m soooo happy I got a response like this and the previous, so as a fellow biologist you totally get it. Last time I made a thread remotely similar to this in another mmo I was super flamed for it.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
(edited by Lindelle.3718)
Now that I think about it, the termite weapon could easily just be changed to Isoptera and the mosquito weapon could become diptera, whereas the weapon with the grubs could become hymenoptera as those insects still have a similar larval form. And for consistency, rename blatellidae to ‘blattodea’. Food for thought.

Hoping someone at anet reads this…. but I wanted to point out several of the names you assigned to these weapons are the wrong taxa to their corresponding insect (or other arthropod.)
I’m on my phone now so I can’t look them all up, but from general entomology knowledge I can tell you the following
Blattodea/termite: blattodea is the order that consists of kittenroaches. Termites are in isoptera.
Hymenoptera/mosquito: hymenoptera consists of bees, ants, and wasps. Mosquitoes belong in Diptera with flies.
I’m not as familiar with taxa for non-insect arthropods and like I said can’t really look them up at the moment. I really applaud anet’s design here and its a cool idea. I’m just requesting that the names be corrected if it doesn’t take too much time or resources (I can’t imagine it would.)
This may seem too nitpicky to some, and to a point I understand, but this is what I and I’m sure others here do as a living and its almost like nails on chalkboard! I wish I could think of a common example for context in another profession, perhaps something IT, I’m sure that is common here!
But even for the sake of general knowledge, many players are going to learn these names quick and it would be incorrect information. Reminds me of a time I was at the zoo and saw mother point at a pelican and tell her son it was a swan, and I wondered how long this kid would call pelicans swans until he was corrected.
Well, if you read this, thanks for listening!
Edit: haha, kittenroaches…

I’ve been dying for the norn shaman outfits since launch…. anet, come on, people would chuck money at you for these. I miss ‘cultural’ stuff, seems it got scrapped. Well, unless you’re human. :p
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Now that I look at some data-mined stuff… some of these scientific names may be wrong for their associated insect. For example, a mosquito is a member of Diptera, Hymenoptera consists of bees, ants, and wasps. I’m hoping its an error on the data miner and not official, if not that is gonna bug (haha) the heck out of me! This may seem silly for probably everyone reading this, but its what I do for a living.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Whoever you are, I love you. I’ve noticed all these weapon names that come from certain taxa (annelid, anura, arthropoda, etc) but these new ambrite weapons? Love it! As a biologist and lover of systematics, I just wanted to say I appreciate your weapon naming. I’m especially happy that I had to learn a ton of insect orders and families a year ago, and that this is going to come in handy. :p
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I’m not particularly interested in farming them, I have waaaay more gold and items than I’ll ever need any more and I just can’t stand farming, but I always found it just genuinely fun, so I’m kind of bummed if this isn’t the case any more. But thanks for the answers!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Ah, alright thanks. So I take it those events don’t give the rewards they used to as well?
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Are you talking about the gw2stuff timer, for those “other” events like foulbear and fire shaman and whatnot? I ask because the new timers I’m seeing now don’t even include those events.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Hey folks! Sorry if you’ve already seen this thread a hundred times, but I couldn’t find one with these particular questions. I took a break from the game after the first living story ended and summer was creeping up. I recently came back and I’m having a great time but I’m still a little lost on the world events.
I saw a thread with timers and checked those out, so nice to know I can use that… but I am noticing a lack of fire shaman, foulbear, commisar, etc. I used to start the foulbear chain all the time, and could always count and seeing loads of people when I got so far into it thanks to the gw2stuff timer. So how do these events work now? I may be wrong but it seemed like the gw2stuff timer is a little wonky now. If I was to start one up one of the chains on my own, would other people even know I was doing it unless I manually typed it out in map chat or something? (I am currently guildless as well)
And what the heck with the temples as well?
Thanks!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I’d save the Norn near the Mists gates. He’s been trying to get in that Sylvari’s guild for almost 2 years and they STILL haven’t accepted him. Poor guy.
this made me lol.
The human talking to the skritt at the TP can go.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
It would give an excuse to see the other racial cities too… sooooo much wasted potential there in my opinion.
Jubilee and Halloween in DR, Dragon Bash in Hoelbrak…. and if we had Meatoberfest in the Black Citadel life would be good.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please…..
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
as fellow charr i completely sign this
on the other hand we now know what smodur is doing in his spare time lol ^^
This… I mean, maybe he kind of misses the days when he was a lowly grunt?
In all seriousness though, as a norn, I would be pretty annoyed if I saw Knut Whitebear handing out drinks in EOTM…
…wait…
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I don’t usually make my own threads to voice an opinion, but I guess this was just something that kind of bugged me enough to do it.
When we are first speaking to the Sheriff and she mentions the probes, all of the sudden we get the cutscene panning out to the one under the water in LA turning green. If you’ve done the LS, you know what I’m talking about of course.
What I am not understanding… is how exactly did our character see that? The line right before the cutscene mentions you investigating the probes. There are a lot of them. But we get this cutscene, see it turn color, and we’re all, “oh no, I just saw something! Just right now! Without leaving the room and conveniently after you say we should investigate them!”
Were we supposed to assume our character just decided to leap out into the water and check that probe in particular within a span of a few minutes, and came back? Because I don’t get the impression any decent amount of time passed during the cutscene where you might be out investigating, and then speaking to the sheriff again.
Or are we all just totally psychic? Or do we have awesome x-ray and telescope vision that allows us to see through buildings, past a distance, and then under water?
Please if I misinterpreted this, someone correct me!
Otherwise I thought the rest was pretty cute. Its clear Anet is listening to us and involving our character more in the cutscene. Granted, the dialogue felt a little forced in the first Dead End instance, but they are learning and I think did a good job. The second Dead End instance was pretty neat. It’s just this one thing I am having a hard time with.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
First of all, I’m surprised how many people are complaining this is a reskin. I just don’t even know what to say… when I knew they wanted to change it from the T3 cultural, I figured they would probably use the Feathered set or Winged set.
I’m quite glad they changed it, put me in with those people that hated the idea of cultural armors across different races… and I play a norn.
But I think this one looks fantastic!! Also like that we finally see some more revealing male armor. I may buy it for my raven-shaman norn ele.. the only thing that is stopping me is that she is an alt I hardly play. Would look perfect, but not sure I can justify the gems, especially considering she is in T3 now.
I main a ranger, too bad the medium set is horrible. But hey… c’est la vie, not going to go on a rampage. Just not going to buy it of course.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Im really disappointed we haven’t seen more cultural stuff… helloooo NPC town clothing. Why is that still not a thing? I know anet would rake in some cash. And its been requested since launch.
Edit: and not just stuff clearly aimed at humans. Looking at you, grenth and dwayna back pieces.
The original thread I posted this in was merged into this thread, so context is weird. This was in a thread regarding cultural back pieces and capes.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
You know whats funny… I have been playing since beta and no precursor. Expected as its the same as many players, really.
Now, last week I looted a key twice, and got one from the daily reward. 3 keys in one week. Last time I looted a key before that (and not from personal story) was around launch. It sort of blew my mind!

Okay I am sorry for this guys… but as a wildlife biologist and a birder I have to put in my 2c regarding the coloration thing. Forgive me!
The extreme sexual dimorphism found in the coloration of birds are not found in the majority of bird groups. Its mostly limited to the perching birds (or songbirds if you will), ducks, and game birds. A few other groups (ostriches), but still a small amount. Not to say there aren’t exceptions, but when you think of the color differences, there you go.
Now how about all the birds that show little to no sexual dimorphism? Plovers, herons/cranes, gulls, owls, hawks, parrots (with the eclectus being an exception, and I think the female is prettier!), thrushes, pelicans, penguins, swallows, kingfishers, nighthawks, crows, geese, vultures, woodpeckers, pidgeons… the list goes on.
Personally I think it would be interesting if there was some kind of color dimorphism with the tengu! But my nitpicky self had to post that. :P
And on a biologist sidenote… devs, please keep using taxa names for weapons, it cracks me up. Thanks!

Looks awesome!!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Hrm… kind of a tough one as there really isn’t nobility amongst the norn, and most of us norn lovers probably LOVE that barbarian look!
However, in my opinion, I’d say cultural T3 would suit nicely as a “noble norn”. I think it looks pretty noble, while still looking norn.
I attached a picture of my guardian, but as you’re male… I also found an image on google to give an idea. Otherwise, here is a link so you can see different armors for male heavy norn.
http://www.gw2armor.com/norn/male/heavy_list.php
If you are still having trouble finding the right look, as much as I hate myself for saying it… maybe try rerolling as a human? They are all about the noble look.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I still don’t know why they haven’t added cultural town clothing like the NPCs wear… I would buy the wolf one in a heartbeat. A lot of people have already voiced this, and I’d like to believe they would make plenty of money.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I think a staff to compliment spirit rangers would be interesting.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I guess no one knows officially until then or an Anet dev confirms… but I imagine the achievements will be up as long as the event is. In the Tower of Nightmare LS they had all of those achievements the entire time, so IIRC even the ones that came out with the first LS were doable until right before the tower collapsed.
(Though correct me if I’m wrong.)
So I think you’re safe
Edit: Oh I guess we WERE told! Cool!

I would not be. It is kind of refreshing as a female gamer to see some races/armors that are very similar for both sexes. I’m glad charr and asura female models don’t have giant chests and revealing armor.
That isn’t to say I am against the idea, I’m glad there are sexual distinctions in the other races, and different armors for them. I am just a fan of different options, and glad that for the most part this game gives them. I would not mind seeing both male and female charr/asura with some more revealing armors as well, just for the sake of greater options.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Godkitten right norn are awesome! I have a max-height male norn warrior and max-height norn female necromancer and man do their armors / animations look intimidating against other races.
Lol, this.
I remember a thread someone made about how the norn were too big and they didn’t feel right fighting against something so big. So they decided to call for a-net to make norn smaller. Lol.
Just blasphemy…
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I guess my point was, people are guessing because you’ve withheld 90% of the information in this living story till the end. I don’t want to be told the details, I want the details to come out during the course of the story, rather than in a big info dump at the end. Might you tell us what you feel we’ve learned from the living story thus far? From what I can tell, all we’ve learned is that Scarlet can make people form alliances, and she has some sort of plan, and it involves a tree and a dragon.
For instance, why did she want Queen Jenna? I assume that’ll be revealed at the end.
Why did she want Mai Trin to replace the assassinated captain in lion’s arch? Revealed at the end. How did she get the xenophobic Krait to team up with the insular nightmare court? Revealed at the end. Where did the Marionette come from? Revealed at the end. What was the point of molton alliance invading ascalon and shiverpeaks? Revealed at the end. Where do the aetherblades come from? Revealed at the end.You can reveal parts of the mystery without spoiling it. Stories should solve mysteries as you go along, not withhold them all to the end. Maybe some of them have been, and I might’ve missed it, but I feel like I’ve been following the Living story for the past year, and I don’t feel like I know anything.
I’d like to add “Caithe’s secret” to this.
I had actually been considering making a thread about the “unanswered” questions in the LS, and hoping we can check them off as they are answered. I’m enjoying the idea of the LS, I can see how Anet was trying to go about telling their story, and I’m hoping nothing slips through the cracks. These are all things I am very much wondering too.
I made a thread a while back about the karka invasion, if there was ever really an answer to that, since I don’t think we ever got one “officially” (was asking anyone in the thread if they knew and maybe I just missed it, “a dragon” was about the best I got, and I don’t even know if that was completely true or just accepted.) I mean heck, this was before the LS almost a year and a half ago. Maybe it was just Zhaitan, and that was that, but I’m still curious.

Perhaps it’s another strike against Rangers, but #4 stops channeling after 2-3 seconds, even when not being attacked or hitting any buttons yourself. Luckily your pet can pick you up, but if other classes are able to continue to channel and rez, then this would be a bug on the Ranger front.. would it not?
I just tested this to confirm and yes, it stops channeling after 3s or so.
That must be a problem on your end because the #4 downed skill has never stopped on me(all I play is ranger) unless I am hit while it’s active.
This exactly, and I main a ranger. What is likely happening is you are hitting 4 and channeling for a few seconds, and then when 3 is up you are using it to call your pet over, which since it is technically using a skill it stops channeling (but your pet is ressing you), wait a few seconds and then you can channel 4 again while your pet is still ressing you, and you are healing even faster.

I absolutely love how huge they are too. I still remember my first beta weekend I was running around hoelbrak admiring the scenery. I decided to check out DR after that and could not believe how tiny humans were!

Jeez grats, curious if this has been done before and if not, good for you then.
Out of curiosity, are you making 4 of the greatswords so you can have sunrise, twilight, and eternity?

You are kidding, right?
I dont have a strong opinion on the issue… but I read this in the bandit/thief voice. kitten it, GW2.

In all seriousness, I read an article anet is aware this is an issue and the end of living story is supposed to involve our character much more.

As a chick gamer I know how nice it can be to talk to other girls or couples, especially if she is new to the genre. Not that I dont enjoy the company of you gents, but after being in a guild of all men I realized having gamer girlfriends are refreshing. There is a mini icebrood wolf (hologram?) I believe that came out during dragon bash. I don’t think there was confirmation, but it seems dragon bash may be an annual thing here, so we could possibly see it again.
I’m with you, I main a norn and actually collect ‘wolf’ things. There is a wolf mini you can buy from a laurel vendor called Geodulf for 75 laurels.
