Best part is, she was already “nerfed” earlier in the game. It used to be much worse, if you can even imagine. I agree though, its still incredibly annoying, especially since that leatherworker spot in Hoelbrak is my afk/clear inv/whatever spot.

I’d really like to believe it will be on or before the 3 year anniversary. That way the expansion came out “before” 3 years or “at” three years.. and no one will say “It took OVER three years for an expansion!” Advertising thing, I guess? Not saying it WILL happen, I certainly hope so, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a goal at least.

Tough part is, we’re in an “all bets are off” moment right now waiting for more specialization reveals (and even still the fine-tuning with the ones that have been), more with Revenant and its specialization, what classes might be best in the new WvW borderlands and/or Stronghold, etc. I know we can do some speculation now with the info we have, but seeing as nothing is really set in stone until its delivered…

That’s pretty much the entire book. So to clarify, you are asking for me (or someone) to give you detail of all of these events? Can I ask why you don’t buy a copy of the book yourself? That way you at least have all of the events handy right there that you can refer back to at any time without relying on another. I’m not trying to sound rude, but as stated earlier in the thread that is a lot to ask of someone.

Or, you said you are looking for things in chronological order, so something like…

Eir meets Snaff and Zojja
Logan and crew meet Rytlock and crew
Caithe meet Logan and Rylock

…etc?

I guess its tough because you aren’t too specific on what it is you are looking for. The book is an entire novel, not really a short story, so there is still a hefty amount of information (which is why I would suggest buying the book.)

Yeah I’ve done my time in hard core mmos. I kinda want to relax now and not have to worry to much about treadmills and the like, feel like I moved to a semi retired state. I personally like more co-op style of guildwars 2 and in pvp I prefer everyone be on the same gear level. Harder to get the, you only killed me cause my gear sucks wah wah wah.

Dueling, I’ve always turned it off cause I found it more annoying then anything else. Nothing but an ego stroke at the end of the day I need my carrot on a stick yo.

Think the only thing I truly miss was from WoW with a 40 man raid. Open world just doesn’t feel the same.

Isnt it funny how the MMO players have aged with the genre? Ive spoken to plenty of people, and of course myself, that feel the same. Hardcore MMOs were a blast back in the day, I could game all day and night. I still recall those days fondly but in reality, just cant do it anymore, which is why I love this game (though, a bit more tougher pve and instanced content would be nice.) I played Archeage its first few months, and while I had a lot of fun for a while, just not something I can maintain anymore, so I came back here. I love how easy that is to do in this, and even if I play another MMO in the future I know Ive always got this one! I guess it was kind of proof of owning a pair of ruby-tinted glasses.

I also advise either joining guildmates, or if you want to pug it, make your own group using the lfg tool. This way you can advertise that you are new and looking for help, can make good friends this way and meet some awesome people! LFG, since it constantly refreshes, can look misleading. Often times it will seem empty, but due to this constant refreshing groups come and go fast. And a lot of people who dont want to start their own group are just watching it waiting for one to pop up too. Hope that helped a bit!

City of Heroes had this too… God I miss it. So convenient.

I’ll hope for armor being rewards for “challenging group content”, as long as it isnt quite as rng crazy as the stuff from teq or wurm. Maybe it will incorperate a bit from what some people miss from older traditional MMOs, who knows.

Pretty much. You seem far along enough in the story though you could just finish it, and if you have plans to roll another character to use that for the fixed story. Im on my tablet so a lot of browsing and links isnt easy to check for me atm, but that sticky may tell you where the fixed story would put you depending where you are now. I may be incorrext, but thought I read that somewhere.

They did intend for it. If you may recall, we used to get one story mission every other level or so until 70-80 when they became more frequent. Anet decided instead to give us entire chapters at 10 level intervals… I guess they thought it would be better? We all had the same sentiment, no one liked it. Newbies, who it was most intended for, could hardly follow the later story. We needed the missing chapter for others to make sense, and some became out of order so that we might do a story that first exposes us to the eye of zhaitan, when we already fought it before, stuff like that. So the community ranted and raved and finally Anet agreed it needed a fix.

Something happened. They reworked the storyline and ditched those Greatest Fear chapters and rearranged others when they changed how the levels/story work together. Anet has stated they are fixing this, along with giving us a soloable arah story.

To be fair, most races have been having cultural problems since launch, including humans. Sure, most things that are added to the game tend to fit humans and there have been the occasional references to the other cultures from Guild Wars 1, but it’s still pretty token. Humans are just one giant vague super culture now, which detracts from something GW1 did really well, and it doesn’t really make much sense (especially with how completely we’re cut off from Elona and Cantha).

The reason humans have so much though is because GW1 was entirely about various human cultures. Aside from the Charr (who started as “always chaotic evil” hordes), the rest of the races weren’t invented until the end, and the different races came at the cost of deep and varied cultures.

Asura and Norn got hit especially hard in GW2, because what did define them, golems and shapeshifting, were relegated to gimmicky racial skills.

I’d agree that Norn got hit the hardest though. They were introduced as these heroic giants. Each Norn could take on a whole army all on their own, and each was a legend. Their “army” was just a handful of people. Now Norn are treated as just another race that is no more powerful than anyone else (this makes sense for gameplay, but is a problem for lore characters).

Seeing Norn soldiers casually in various armies contributing little more than anyone else has completely destroyed one of their most defining aspects. And the Norn need distinct defining aspects more than the rest of the races, since they do just look like large humans on the surface.

The other major problem they face deals with customization. Most Norn I see run around with some combination of armor or character customization that fails to have the nordic/celtic aspects that make the Norn distinct from the GW human cultures. A lot of people also tend to play small Norn or large humans, so there’s almost no difference between the two, especially when you consider the armor and character designs most people go with.

A female Norn shouldn’t look like a beauty queen, and a male Norn shouldn’t look like some shaved marine. They should look like Valkyries and vikings. Not saying people shouldn’t play what they want to, but those two designs seem way more popular than the berserker look the race is supposed to have, which has completely diluted the Norn culture.

This is a great post. I can sympathize with what you mean with the human culture having to become all mish-mash now (though unfortunately that sounds like it is NCsoft’s doing and may never change, but I hope it does), and the way you describe norn summed up my thoughts well. Thank you.

Armor wise the game is frankly mostly catered to human chars, human female mostly. Not saying you cant make a non human char that wears armor that reflects a specific race theme… but you gonna be very restricted with the parts… mostly to dungeon and cultural armor and even there it can be a kitten to get the “feel” in…looking specially at you medium charr cultural. Try to find a single gear on these things… I dare you lol.

Also the op asks for more “different” options that use more racial “traits” added to the game. Think braham’s armor… Sorta that way, just for all race “traits”

Yeah this was mostly the point of my OP, perhaps I wasn’t clear enough. If you take into account all of the “new” (as in, after release) armors, weapons, and outfits… they tend to all cater to humans, kind of sylvari, and barely the other 3 races. Funny how often we see new threads pop up about the cultural NPC armor (we just got a new one too!), that would make some awesome cultural outfits imo. But hey, thats something people have wanted since release and still doesn’t seem to be happening.

Regarding the post about the crazy hair colors and styles, yes, that makes me sad too. But I guess play how you like to play, right?

I actually purposely didnt keep track of the gold because I knew I would get more discouraged. I got a decent amount back from the loot inside, including two of the necklaces. Unfortunately for me, I collect wolf stuff in this game and when I saw that mini upon returning to the game during wintersday (haha, nope, didnt even do it during halloween with bags I earned myself) I just thought to myself, “well kitten me, this is gonna be rough.”

lol okay I feel like I’ll have to edit my OP and take the steampunk thing out.. I used it as a loose adjective for I guess a “machinery” feel but I know it isn’t the perfect term, and nor was it added as “charr/asura cultural.”

Just a quick note, Asuras have NOTHING to do with steampunk trash. Asuras are tied with geometrical stones and magic runes style.

So, basically, the same issue you are saying that exist on norns, does exist on asuras too. (Altough I think that there are as much norn’ish armors in games as it does for asuras, and both have some quite good matching culturally speaking).

Steampunk = High technology embased on vapor, usually themed on victorian age style.

I had mentioned in my OP but I’ll say again, I used norn as an example but I believe ALL non-human races could use some love. I know asura isn’t all steampunk and whatnot, but I guess what I meant is that some of those kinds of items look nice on them, but that is just my opinion.

Okay, I’ve whined about this several times already as replies in other threads, but I think it’s time I just make my own.

What happened to other races’ culture?

I never played the original GW (though I actually just started a few days ago, loving it so far) but I did keep an eye on GW2 for a year or so before release. I remember looking up lore on all the races, and settling on Norn because… 9 foot tall shapeshifting alcoholics that can’t decide if they’re vikings or native americans? Sign me up!

I looked up stuff about Jora, Svanir, the shiverpeaks, the Spirits of the Wild, and just fell in love! But it’s been close to 3 years now, and I feel like we never really got any new ‘stuff’ the way some other races did. Particularly humans.. of course. (Disclaimer: As a norn main I’m particularly talking about them, but really I think the other 3 races [charr, asura, sylvari] need a bit more love too.)

So what has come out since launch that fits the norn? Particular weapon sets or armor that looks cultural and belongs to them? Braham’s stuff (that my ranger can’t even use)? Maybe the arctic explorer outfit, kinda, even though that is more wintersday? The black wings backpack until you realize its kind of more human cultural? I was STOKED to see the raven and snow owl mail carrier, even though I know that is probably more because of GoT/Harry Potter.

Meanwhile, we see all kinds of releases catering to human culture and their Gods. That is fine, I know a lot of GW1 people appreciate the throwback, and so do I. But will we ever see back items or anything else that has to do with the Spirits of the Wild? The Charr legions? Sylvari Cycles? Asura at least got the spinal blades, but they still fall short in terms of cultural items released for them (haha get it? I’m hilarious.)

I’m really happy that all this dreamer’s stuff looks like it was made for sylvari, that is awesome, let’s keep it up! But when looking at my own race of choice, I just really see nothing. We have had plenty of plant-themed items come out for sylvari, “machine-ish” stuff that could make sense for asura and charr (though they still need a lot of love too)… but just nothing for norn. And then the absolute plethora for humans. I remember reading quite some time ago about a dev that said they were getting rid of cultural stuff, please let’s not. I don’t want our outfits to be pretty asian-themed dresses, or weapons that symbolize a human god. I want to be a NORN! Please Anet, I don’t wan’t want to be just a tall human anymore.

I never played WoW so when using the term “raid”, I don’t really mean the specific way they do things.. but I think it would be cool if some parts of LS1 (Tower of Nightmares would be PERFECT) could be set up as some kind of raid content. Finally let us have some harder PvE larger parties.

Definitely gonna echo the people that say choose it for the skin alone. If you play a necro at all, I bet the GS would look pretty fine on a Reaper.

If I had to take a guess, you are doing the “off” events that is similar to the main boss event… but not quite it. Sorry I don’t know the correct term for it, so I know how confusing that sounds.

Check out this boss timer, a lot of people in game use this. Look for “Svanir Shaman” and that is the “official” boss event, and should reward you the achievement. Also, as silly as it sounds.. make sure you don’t already have the achievement. I can’t tell you how often I’ve seen people say that for some reason they aren’t getting it, only to discover they already had it! (myself included)

Ah, thanks for the reply. As I said I know nothing about GW/reward mechanics but I imagine I’m still safe to start the game and later get rewards? (I realize you aren’t a dev, but you seem to know the mechanics.)

I finally am able to play GW, and granted I wanted to play it to experience the game itself anyway, I certainly also want the rewards for GW2. Since I know nothing about HoM yet and how it works (I’ll do my research), I do recall a certain patch messing up the rewards or something, I forget the details. Am I pretty much in the clear now, or is stuff still ‘broken’? Thanks!

I did, but I chose account as it seems “linking” is my biggest problem, and I did select linking in the second drop down option. (I did a GW1 trial near beta or launch of GW2 and linked the accounts, but now even though apparently it should be the same username/pass for GW1 and 2, it is not.)

I just tried it again and the ticket finally went through, I think it was putting my email address into the GW2 serial code area thanks to autofill settings, which I only noticed from scrolling up and checking an upteenth time, so now I feel silly. Thanks!

I know which second drop-down you are referring to, and I have selected it as well but the same error occurs.

Thanks for the response. I just tried it again to make sure I have selected all drop-down menus, and I have. This and my GW1 code are the only things I have left blank, editting my OP to show images “in case”.

I’ll spare the long story, but basically I bought GW1 MONTHS ago (I know this isn’t a GW1 forum, but please don’t close this thread immediately on reading this yet) and am only just now recieving tiny bits of “help” in the form of automated emails asking me if I have the game installed, and then asking me to rate my service. Please.

Anyway, yesterday I got an email to submit yet another ticket or something, but the problem is.. it asks for my GW2 serial code, which I bought before launch and don’t remember. The page tells me I can leave this blank if I don’t remember it, but it will also not progress if I don’t enter one, and of course “I don’t remember” is invalid.

I know I’ll likely get the usual “this isn’t a GW1 forum” and “We can’t help you with your problem”, but this is seriously my last option. I have responded to these emails several times and am getting nothing back. I bought this game on March 2nd and submitted a ticket then, and still cannot play (its a simple wrong username/password, but its linked with my GW2 account so I’m sort of stuck.)

Edit: The issue with being unable to submit this new ticket is now resolved… though I still feel after waiting since March 2nd I will never play GW1. :,(

I never played WoW myself, but one thing I consistently hear for people that come here from WoW is to take everything you know about that game and toss it out the window here! I have unfortunately known ex-WoW (and some other similar MMOs) players that came here and expected the game mechanics to be very similar, and ended up getting frustrated… when really, you need to play GW2 like GW2, not like WoW.

I have to wonder if those of us with legendaries now will have these new precursor skins already unlocked…? I already kinda hate that with the wardrobe introduction I lack the precursor skin, but now especially with updated precursor… would be nice

I don’t think any of them are new, but if you never played certain classes you would never have heard them before. It certainly sounds to me as if you can hear more of the nearby callouts.

I haven’t played my Warrior since the fix….any chance they fixed the backwards Adrenaline callouts?
