I wouldn’t say I know 100%, but I would guess that this comes from the same idea that norn run slower, which is untrue and something of an illusion because they are so much bigger, but must have the same pace as a human or asura. I’ve seen people swear up and down its true, but it isn’t.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Got it, thank you!!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Also looking for NA Grenth if someone would let me know, thank you!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
yup I got grenth from that too, tyvm
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Oh cool i hadn’t seen that thread… checked it and got the temple, tyvm!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
What with Grenth being so difficult I hardly see it open on my server (and I’m sure many others), but I wanted to buy some of the accessories there and would be very appreciative if someone could let me know if they see one open and what server? I’ll be watching this thread when I can…
thanks!

These are some really interesting replies. Its neat how different classes choose different totems and the reasons are very good and make sense-lore wise.

All I make are norn… and I use the heck out of these sites for naming
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
All 5 slots are norn, love them!!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I’ll go first of course!
I chose wolf. I never played GW1 but when I was interested in this game and looking and classes and races, the norn ranger just screamed at me (and I still love it!) I decided to pick wolf because of the pack mentality, strength in numbers, loyalty, etc, just made sense for a ranger. Also I’m a dog person.
It kind of grew as I played the game and now I have fun doing what I can to have a total wolf “theme” around my character. I use both wolf pets, Howler, I have the Goedulf mini, Call of the Wild amulet, and the ‘Wolf’ T3 armor. I just wish Become the Wolf and Mistfire Wolf didn’t suck…
So, what totem did you pick and why?

I love my Howler!! My ranger is a wolf-themed norn, it was too perfect. And the howling animation/sound combined with the aura and footprints is very cool.

All living snakes have been exterminated by rangers that used to put dozens of them in their traps. Now they have to resort to silly plastic snakes.
Crap!! I saw this thread and wanted to say this!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Basically famous daddy takes son from famous mommy to raise… Because famous daddy loves her so much he wants nothing to get in the way of her growing into a truly legendary figure among the norn. (though we all know she ends up surpassing that and becomes famous among all races.) He goes so far as to ask his friends to raise his boy when he passes and even demands that no one tell her he is dead. Out of fear she will be tempted to go there and raise her so, rather then become the great and heroic figure she is now… Kind of romantic if you think of it like a norn.
Seconding this, it screams “norn” and is a good example of my norn culture =/= human culture post.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Snaff was Zojja’s dad
Sorry but why do you assume they were related by blood? Snaff was Zojja’s mentor and that’s about all that is official about them. A father figure he could have been, but an actual father? Not until Anet says so.
In the book, Zojja calls Snaff “father”. So that’s why I assumed they were father/daughter.
She says this sarcastically.
I’m gonna assume it’s a mix snide sarcasm and devotion since we know his death broke her hard
Oh definitely, but I think she was someone who had a bad case of “don’t know what you had until its gone”. Even in the beginning Eir is put off by her for the way she treats Snaff, and warns her that he won’t always be around and she might someday regret it (not word for word, but it went something like that.)
Okay sorry, I will try and not derail anymore :P

The story doesn’t make me feel any better about Eir having a son tbh. It’s almost like they had someone who’s really bad at writing fan fiction write this. So Eir has a 17 year old son who she just what, forgot about? How many mothers can honestly forget being in labor and having a child.
Who said she forgot? She hasn’t talked about it, but who said she forgot about it enough that it’s a surprise to her? Far as I can tell she was aware of him, and knew he was around, but just let him have his own life. If the figures are right, by the time of the story Eir was with Destiny’s Edge. You know, when she was out doing things trying to become a full legend among the norn.
I said in another thread: It’s going to come out that the reason she never talked about it is because nobody ever asked her about it and she saw no reason to talk about it. Norn aren’t human. To them, it doesn’t matter whose son/daughter you are . . . “deeds, not words”.
What the story sounds like, is that Braham’s father gave Eir amnesia and took the child to Cragstead. Meanwhile; in Hoelbrak, NO ONE remembers Eir had a child, even though she is the daughter of a famous hero of the Norn. So apparently EVERYONE has amnesia who ever knew Eir.
Holy heck that’s a stretch! I hope you didn’t strain anything.
What the story looks like is that Eir has a son. For whatever reason, Braham’s father was raising him while Eir wasn’t there. (Whatever reason? Eir was out trying to do great and glorious things. We sort of know this.)
Braham grew up away from her, so he has no reason to really have an attachment to her. He knows she’s a Big Deal, but for the most part he has no reason to have acted like they were anything other than blood relation.
Nobody else talks about it because, and this may be not easy to grasp . . . it’s not a stranger’s business (in the case of another race) if Eir has a son who hasn’t been seen around Hoelbrak. To the Slayer (in the case of a norn), a nobody who hasn’t done anything yet wouldn’t be important either until they showed up. Which they did.
It’s like the deal with Logan’s brother. Nobody really talks about it, but it’s happened. You can find a grave for him in Ebonhawke but Logan . . . far as I know, doesn’t really talk about him.
Anet you had to put that comercial and politically correct detail dont you? I saw that coming from the first time I saw an image og Eir. Meh…
What exactly are you talking about?
I’m really glad you made this post.. because I really wanted to type something similar but I tend to just browse the forums instead of post much. So, +1 to this.
Also as was kind of mentioned in this post but I’d like to re-iterate, norn culture =/= human culture.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Braham being Eir’s son is unnecessary drama, worse because it’s unnecessary drama that’s contrived.
my thought exactly. The story linked is not much better.
I’m wondering what was the point of telling Braham EIRSson that Eir is his mother? Seems that would have been a question asked long before.
Dad, why am I named Eirs Son? gawd.
Perhaps as a child his second name wasn’t Eirsson, at least not until his father told him his mother’s name. Norn names and titles change over time. Perhaps when he learned of his mother’s deeds (as his father predicted she would be a great hero) he began to call himself Eirsson.

After that last stretch of crazy gaming when I was really close to finishing it, I won’t lie I did take a break for a few days. However, I wouldn’t say I enjoy the game less or feel like I no longer have a goal. Still plenty to do in my opinion, but I know that always differs from person to person.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Thats why I came to the forums, glad to see I’m not the only one
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Wow I can’t believe how many responses so far!! Thank you so much for the welcoming posts… I will have to talk with my boyfriend tonight over these.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I always assumed he was a member of Dessa’s crew that she abandoned. The shock of actually seeing him and the abandoned lab again is why she panics and suddenly departs.
This had been my speculation as well. Funny, my boyfriend and I were just talking about it the other day and I started with, "did you notice how Dessa kind of freaks out…? etc etc and then ended with my “theory.”
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I asked my boyfriend about this since all we create are norn as well, he said he didn’t recall remember a distinction between voices. As we game side-by-side I’ve heard his stories a lot and I never have either… though I guess there are also so many different stories, maybe we just happened to never hear it?
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
This thread just made me laugh my butt off. My boyfriend’s engineer says this and he never understood why he says “moon loot”. I had to show him this post. His response… “I still think it sounds like ‘moon loot’.”
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I might explode if I don’t see howler soon
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Does anyone have Howler? Really itching to see those new effects, I was considering making it before, if they didn’t mess it up it’s confirmed.
Seconding this… I have been working on howler as my norn ranger is very wolf-themed. I had always kind of accepted it was a “lesser” legendary but now I am DYING to see the new effects!

“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I guess I’m the only one who likes the warhorn
My norn is centered entirely around ‘Wolf’, I wasn’t even going to go for a legendary and then I saw it and thought, “Well… crap. I think I want that.”
Just depends on your taste, the greatswords are neat but now I see them more than any other legendary, and are getting a little old. But hey, these are all personal opinions. I’m female and I think all of the “girly” legendaries are absolutely hideous. The only people I know so far that have the dreamer or kudzu are male, lol.

My boyfriend and I dancing before Tequatl
I only just noticed until after I posted this.. neat how the couples here seem to also match in race as well.

Snow Leopard as well, considering mesmer stealth and slipperiness.
Exactly why I picked Snow Leopard for my mesmer
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Wait… there are races OTHER THAN norn?! Absurd! Norn are all I can play!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
That’s probably old concept art from before the Sons of Svanir were fully fleshed out. The reason why no women are allowed is because Jora (a girl) killed Svanir himself. Makes me wonder what they would’ve done if a man had killed Svanir: then they would have to be the Sons of Svanir, No Men Allowed.
It’s not only that Jora killed Svanir, though that is a big part of it. But Jora also refused to take on Jormag’s blessing and for some reason that we do not know of, Jormag does not turn females into icebrood at all after this incident. This leads me to believe that females are somehow immune to his power of corruption much like Sylvari are. Because we do see Jormag attempt to corrupt at least one woman, but none have so far been corrupted successfully.
I’ve always kind of wondered about this, because I can’t imagine a dragon caring about the sex of a minion, as long as it is a minion. But in the “Edge of Destiny” book at one point, Eir proclaims to the norn something like “What does the icebrood do to the norn who go to fight them?”
And a norn woman replies, “The norn men come back as Icebrood. The norn women come back… not at all.” Which leads me to think they are just killed. It’s all interesting speculation though.

I’ve been looking for something like this. This is awesome! Thanks for taking the time to put it together!
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
It sounds like you saw that because you chose “cunning” in your personal story, that you think its important to protect the spirits of the wild. Similarly to choosing a pet, choosing your revered spirit has no affect on your story other than someone greeting you in a lodge. So if you chose bear, the bear shaman or whomever at the lodge might say something like, “I see you are one of Bear’s chosen.” Same with humans and choosing their Gods, and so on.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I remember hearing something from A-net (or a single employee) that cross-fertilization is not possible.
Unfortunately it was a while ago and I forget the source, but it was out there. I’d try and look it up if I wasn’t pretty much on my way to work right now, but maybe someone else will remember or find the source.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Glad you are enjoying this game, as am I.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
The massive scale and detail of this game demands some sacrifices. They threw in multiple kinds into each zone, it’s more like:
1-15 area: Sons of Svanir, Icebrood, Jotun, Dredge, additional enemy (skritt, destroyers, steam enemies and so on).
15-25 area: Sons of Svanir, Icebrood, Jotun, Dredge, additional enemy (skritt, destroyers, steam enemies and so on).
level 25-40 area: Sons of Svanir, Icebrood, Jotun, Dredge, additional enemy (skritt, destroyers, steam enemies and so on).
Level 40+: Sons of Svanir, Icebrood, Jotun, Dredge, additional enemy (skritt, destroyers, steam enemies and so on).And it repeats. There’s variety, not much, but it’s the trade for such a massive and detailed world.
But, if you think the Norn areas are bad, wait til Orr. It really is just undead (though there are many variations of undead).
Pretty much this.. on top of the fact that no matter what race you can play you can go level in any zone. Tired of snow and mountains? Go level in the jungle for a while, etc etc. I mean if I recall correctly, Jotun are only found in the shiverpeaks. I think they gave the enemies here tons of variety, moreso than in other games, you just have to go find it.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Is your character norn? Cultural weapons can be accessed by any race, armor can’t. If you speak to someone for cultural armor that isn’t your race, they won’t talk to you. Otherwise no, there is nothing you need to unlock to see the armors.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I bought it, and I like it.. but of course we all have different opinions.

I have to agree with the last few posters, I absolutely adore Hoelbrak and like it much more than the other cities.

“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Funny, I myself play a norn ranger, and my boyfriend plays a norn engineer. I feel like the constant pirate/steampunk feel to a lot of the medium armor out there works for his engineer, and the cultural armor SCREAMS ranger for me.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Seems to me the Spirit of Bear would love to consume the Spirit of Salmon…..
Working with what we are given, spirit of bear isn’t necessarily a bad choice. Bears swim and fish, I could totally see them working into the nautical theme.

Love how it fits the GW2 paint style, and yes I agree, it screams mesmer.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
How very cool of you! This is my norn ranger, Lindelle Ulfdis. She wears tier 2 cultural armor so it actually is a little intricate… not sure how challenging or not it might be, so if you have to pass by her no big deal!!
