Now we can go on on how to change these, but this isn’t a thread about changing ranger so that their old self isn’t possible. This is about adding things that can work with what is already there.

3a. With the stated, we need another ranged option. My suggestion? Rifle.

4. They need more team orientated skills. Now this can be very touchy, for that it can change how fights are played. Honestly, I think that is a good thing. The game needs more options to make it more strategic, more dynamic, and just have more plain ol’ good fun.

3a. very very very bad idea – in the list of reasons there are climatic thing – rifle does not match to ranger! we(rangers) are warrior of the wilderness, silent fighters using powers of nature to defeat aur oponents – noisy mechanical industrial rifles are just oposite way.

Carrion Armor - something better?

I heard also about some full knights sets for ranger + zerker weps. 41% crit chance and 3k armor (knights is toughness power prec)
If You are about swords….
be aware of 1hsword – it’s a bad idea until ANet will fix their 1 chain skill.
but greatswords….
these are the good ones
(yeah of course, 1h swords have multum evasive skills…. but gs have one evade skill which is used much more often that all of 1hswords – evade on 3th skill of 1 number chain and counter atack blockk all the atacks so….)
Settler’s as for me is a good stats with very bad name…
(as Sentinels was bad stats with good name )
(I personaly use knights jewerly but ascended clerics\clerics + though inf amulet armor is mix of knight/rampager/apothecary(or cleric’s instead of that last one) and I’m thinking about change that apothecary piece on settlers.
axe as for me could be good idea IF ANet would fix some animation issue that are mostly very annoing – when I use ANY skill that require throws any of my weapon for a phew seconds I loose both weapons and back item. that could be very annoing at nigth with torch in hand

Hey, rangers are OP underwater.

they specifically said they are aware of the ranger underwater downstate “problem.” so i wouldnt count on being OP underwater too much longer. im not going to dig up the link, but it was in the last SOTG.

which problem and why I don’t know about it?

somebody mentioned rangers in gw1? best tank at for example Jade Quarry (once I solo-killed two mesmers and elemnatlist… but that’s only because mesmers was fools and didn’t have their energy-eating skills :P)
but returning to gw2…
last nerf I remember was destruction of spirit build.
I missed something?
(I also remember buff of GS, and quickening zephyr – with nerf of quickness and some buff to pet stats)

hmmm….
I’m not sure about fusion idea, but surely some alternative profesion mechanics to ranger cannot be bad idea
but as for me I would rather thing about some trait/skill whatever that would swap ranger pet to alternative F1-F2, which should be af course adequate to ranger profession….
maybe something like preparations from gw1?

EDIT I got it!
alternative F1 would be “camouflage” – stealth until: atacked, atack, or move – when breached have 1 min cd.
but I have no idea for rest of alterniative mechanics skills… not now anyway….

Why aren't rangers able to wield rifles?

Long time ago there were Beastmaster and Marksman professions, but for some idiotic reason ANet decided to merge them… now we have Ranger. You can’t blame ppl who wanted to play the 2nd one for looking for “sniping from 1000yd” on ranger, as it IS class that is supposed to fit ppl interested in ranged combat.
Pets scared of shots? Lol, for some reason my dog, nor any trained for it pet, has no problems with it.
Anyway, there were 100’s of topics about it over past 9 months. Next time search before starting another one.

Long long time ago was Ranger in GW1 – he could use only bows unless he had secondary proffesion that have possibility of other weps.
He also didn’t have to have a pet – that was purely optional thing.
also well build ranger could be tank over tanks – yes with the bow.
when ANet was working with gw2 there was an idea to divide ranger to two other professions: Marksman and Warden.
but for a time later when one of those profession where nearly gone, ANet made decision to merge them again in ranger.

rifles? nope that’s a bad idea – no lore approval to ranger have a rifle.
Staff? sounds intersting.
but as for me if ANet even repair 1hsword I would gladly see a shield for the rangers.

I don’t need to respec my ranger – I use same build for dungs, pve, wvw…
I have no idea why ANet changed description at their page but originally it was this:
“Rangers are flexible and durable—proficient with the bow, yet surgical with the sword. They rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature to slay their targets. Their loyal pets, which rangers tame and train, distract enemies while the rangers strike safely from a distance”

and was also quote at the begining about biscuits
to all discussion about from where “rangers” in fantasy games came I just sent you google frase “Rangers of the North” and “Rangers of Ithilien” – from mixing those groups D&D have inspiration to their rangers.

as from pet tanking… Usually I’m this “tanky” and pet are this “dps’ing” in our relationship my role is distract enemies from my pet so he could dps’ing bleeding etc. with no problem – You know 2k toughness
problem starts with zerg fights at wvw – there is nearly no possibility to have pet live too long in this mass AoE fights. but rangers isn’t made for mass zerg figths – warrior and guardian are purely made for this and spellcasters are for support their effords – but not rangers. but ranger role at wvw isn’t topic here so let’s back to the Dungeons.

I had play many many dungeons and if I was kicked from party – so once I was kicked because I wanted to do AC explo with 40 lvl so reason was lvl not class.
I’ve never been kicked for being rangers and I’ve seen a lot of both noobie rangers and good rangers. (once I’ve seen ranger with axe+warhorn/shortbow at CoF p1 – in fight with effigy he was striking boss from sb staing at nearly melee range – and was dying often) I also seen glass canon rangers that didn’t died once through all the AC explo.
I also have made AC explo with 4rangers+mes party with no problem and get wiped in 4warriors+ranger one.

as a ranger in dungs I have also situations when fighting finall boss (in AC again ) when all party get died and only me still standing – and I revived all party then to kill that boss

That’s all I wanted to say and If I forgot about someyhing I’ll post it later

that would make sense on me… – if only “auto-drawn-when-my-pet-get-hit” system would be disabled….

It’s called, hit F3 to tell your pet not to retaliate because you don’t enter combat just because your pet got hit. You enter combat when your pet attacks.

That’s not so easy – I can turn my pet even on avoid combat – mob hit a pet=I’m running slower and taking my sword from back – when just running through the world I just stow weapon – next hit – again sword in my hands… seriously I tested that – I’m counted as in combat if I or my Pet will take or deliver dmg funny that’s makes also that I’m counted as in fogth for a while when taking falling damage…

PS. F3 is “come to me” not avoid combat – so hitting it will only czange that pet will go to my position first – so if just hit before I could hit F3 he will aleady deliver hit.

Dungeon Difficulty

I asked My friend who is much more experienced with dungeon how all of it works aafter patch – answer was: “You need a good party – and best with teamspeak”

I pugged it, through gw2lfg, and 1 guy from map chat at lvl 40
my exact message was
“LF3M AC exp fun run to explore the new dungeon, NO ELITISTS”

I got a bunch of very friendly people. Sure we wiped, like 10 times. But we did it. Later on when I went with my guild for path 2 and 3 we wiped very few times (1-2-3) until they saw the tactics. And path 3 was flawless.

Do not limit yourselves! The dungeon is not that hard, just keep trying and improve.

PS: Aaahh now that I think twice your friend might’ve recommended VoIP because of path 2, in reality its not that hard. You just zerg the ectos with lifts and pulls. It will take more time but oh well, worth it

yup I tried today again after spider queen was a way easier – first time Kholer was killable without mega-guardian in team – but everything god stuck on the Ghost Eater – under 1/3 hp it got bugged, and he was ingnoring fully hcarged traps… and after a while of trying lure him on the trap in hope that will activate – he started to heal himself. and again… failure (as previously it seemed to be just matter of two idiots in team, that this time that was bug)

didn’t checked another paths yet

after all I still agree that choice of difficulty lvl (and reward depending on it) is good idea

I agree with the author – client of GW2 for linux would be a good thing – a gaming developers are just starting to wake up that linux users can be a way more proficient group than windows or mac users – If you check – more developers are starting to making games for linux – not only in the Asia…

Guild Loyalty should be Rewarded

In my honest opinion GW2 needs to remove the G from their name because guilds are not the main feature of the game.

and I my humble and honest opinion You should checkup from where game tooked their name.
I’ll tell you – if You listened carefully what trehearne was talking about orr while mission with pale tree vision You should know it.
Originally Guild Wars have name from the event in Tyrian history that is in the beggining of the first campain (eventually just slightly earlier) and that event was… Guild Wars that have place in tyria after exodus – and fisrt trailer of Guild Wars (not GW2) was about that event.

PS. I agree that loyalty should be rewarded – not sure how it would works but that is a good idea to reward players hat are represending just one guild (somebody mentioned guilds as playerhubs – who represent those “player-hubs” guild, when being in real one?

Just … no. Learn Kholer’s mechanics. He has A LOT LESS hp, his adds are basically soloable with lvl 40 so they’re nerfed to hell as well, and you guys want easy mode? o.o"

See when he starts charging his sword…you should prepare to dodge :U

not sure what Kholer is look like after patch because team of random player that would have no problem before patch to that patch within one hour was trying no to die on spider queen within those hour and knowledge of single player about mechanics of the boss can’t guarantee a succes when he is alone living after a while…

I don’t want to make whole dung an “easy mode” – I just agree that giving player a choice of difficulty level is good idea.

PS. before patch I was able to make AC with random players. after patch and failure of “random team” I asked My friend who is much more experienced with dungeon how all of it works aafter patch – answer was: “You need a good party – and best with teamspeak”

Dungeons are fine. People have been beating them in under 15 minutes since release. We still get punished for beating them quickly.

If you thin your level matters, if you’re getting hit, if you think the enemies are like normal enemies, that’s your problem.

People have been finishing the dungeons in under 15 min because they are running through them.

And they were running through them because most of graveling groups was very deadly in fight for group of random players – even with ts.
For example – Lieutenant Kholer – he was a way too difficult for group that is not playing together from weeks – so if cave troll wasn’t spawn nobody even though to fight with him – and the patch… – added more mobs to fight for him? if that so nobody will fight Kholer right now.

I agree that some things that they made in the last patch made AC very difficult to make – one hour with random team – and not even killed spider queen – because she spawned nearly “at once” and the spiders have swarmed all the team. Two seconds, no time to react – and whole team dead.

about hatchlings – I’m not sure if they have lowered damage.. – still they have strangely big range of atack and thay are bleeding on each atack – if we consider that hatchlings are spawning in nearly ten at once Fighting with them in close combat will efect with deadly number of bleeding stacks (in bigger spaces with properly build there is a possibility to kite them that they cannot hit you)

And one strange thing I’ve seen – Spider queen if spawned and kill whole team will rush with all the spiders toward player when plafers still are not able to figth – when they are just upstairs with no room to figth, trapps in every place – and enemy spamming with AoE poisons…

so I agree at this moment AC are normally way to difficult for random teams of player and I agree with proposition to give possibility of chosing difficulty lvl (for example: easy – mode to players without 80 lvl but in those 35 lvl’s – 20 tokens per path first time per day – medium – for casual 80’s – 40 tokens per path first time a day – and hard – that what is present – 60 tokens per path – and everybody should be happier )

Hi there,
For start I just admit, that I’m one of these person who thinks that ranger rigth now is good and not “sux”
but after all my adventure with this profession I have seen some minor (but in some-persons opinion major) issues, and after some making my mind I have some proposition how to fix them (not sure why writing them – because, if You fix that I’ll have serious problem with choicing my weaponset :P)

first issue is… one-handed sword chain skills.
there are very players complainig about that (and still playing at sword+dagger+trap “tanky build” as “only viable ranger build”) but let them alone with that – there are many other viable builds (minimum 4 but not sure what that build are – but this is not topic of that)

so problem with that chain is hidden in skills “kick” and “pounce” – both some kind of “move-toward-enemy” with range 400 and 430.
With auto atack activated on this chain we have very difficult situation.
If ranger focus he can move around enemy while “slice” duration. unfortunately little move of camera in wrong direction lead to “where-the-heck-is-enemy-i’m-atacking” situation. the other problem is that in duration of both “kick” and “pounce” ranger cannot dodge and in the consequence of all of that – he cannot disengage without using hornet sting. Only possibility to disengage with that weapon is: dodge, hornet sting or weapon swap – there is not possible to just run out because autoatacking chain are leading us back to the enemy.

I was thinking a lot how to repair that chain without making them OP.
after all I decided that IMO best possibility is rebuild that chain a little – and even I have a proposition of new one-handed sword chain:
1. Slice: Slice your foe,
2. Backswing: Slice your foe again with a backswing,
3. Hawk’s Talon: Maul your foe with a powerfull evasive blow that inflict bleeding (3 stacks) OR Bear’s blow: Strike Your foe with powerfull evasive blow that grant might to you and your pet

skill damage and casting time (duration time) I give to balancing team

that’s the first and most important (IMO) issue.

second is the issue with the spirits.
in my opinion spirit efect should afflict all strikes when player is in the range of spirit not just one in 10 seconds-if that is OP maybe that what is needed is changing the chance to gain buff (for example – if applying burning on every second hit is OP maybe just make lesser chance to apply that efect – maybe to 25% with(out) trait? that would make that every forth atack inflinct burning)

that was second now third:
that is minor grafical issue and I think that this problem is not only afflicting ranger (not tested yet)
problem is with any weapons skill that have “throw your weapon” in description.
for example: if I take axe+whatever and have guild backpack visible – using any axe mainhand skill are making both weapons AND backpack to disappear for a moment.
with some test following skills are afected:
Greatsword:
Throw sword (chain with counter atack)
axe main hand – all skills are affected,
axe offhand: path of scars,
dagger: crippling talon (throwing dagger – main weapon and backpack disappear for a moment – seriously)
torch: throw torch.

and at last I have some propose – maybe adding dagger mainhand option to the ranger is worthy of consider?

I have an ask to every player that will read this – please, respond in this thread only when You have some merytorical comment to my proposition here – If You want just to post “fix the ranger” or “fix all the ranger” so better will be that You wouldn’t post anything – but I’m waiting for every agrees/disagrees – in that second option best with some good arguments – and also waiting for somebody from developer team best those who are responsible for ranger profession (if anyone is at the moment), to tell what is ArenaNet opinion about things which I pointed here

PS2. for any interested where I found 4 viable builds for ranger – before last update I have a possibility to make an AC with 4 rangers+mesmer team – and asked everyone for build – there was not even two players with the same build – and we made the whole dungeon without any problems – there was some similarity in builds – as for example focusing on power/crit/condi/whatever-kind-of-damage/survi – but there was big differences in builds

Axes, GS, and swords…what are we talking about here? The Warrior/Ranger? Oh that’s right, they are out there.
I just want my ranger to use her bows, pets and spirits like we’re supposed to. Tired of rangers getting “overlooked” on the real problems here and the solution is to “just use the axe or GS”..WTF? I’m a ranger!! o.O

Aragorn was also ranger… and was catched to using bow just once!

PS. Aragorn was a member of group who was precursors of all the “ranger” classes – Rangers of the North

seriously – There are two options for me – ranger class isn’t for you guys… or You just can’t play a ranger (or compleining just to complain.. ops thats three)
Played ranger from the begging – comperd with guardian and thief – ranger is still best for me from all of those

I’m playing the ranger and only ranger from the beginning (tryied for some thief and guardian, but thief isn’t really for me and guardian was more than “killing them before they will kill me” than really that I supposed)
and never used “guard!” nor “Protect me!” never even used most thing from this patch – only crippling talon, when still used sword+dagger.

and still cannot stop to laughing about that about spirit – played a very lot of time with spirit and now I don’t use it only because I was always forgeting to resummon them after that minute… :P but in every second when my spirit will be needed – quick swap of some utility and traits – spirits again.

Last surviving player along whole team – rezzing death allies and using his devourers to distract the enemies from that.
4 rangers+ mes better in dung than 4 warriors+ranger,
seeing all that “tanky” another profession build dying when I still survive…
Yes there are things to be proud of being ranger.

PS. When I’m reading lot of crying about “how ranger sux” In a whole lot situations can’t stop from laughting….
