And some people are so blindly in-love with a game that they get scared/angry when others look at their game objectively
Here is urban dictionary` definition of casual gamers
Gee that’s not derogatory at all.. /end sarcasm
Fell free to up vote or down vote their definitions as you see fit. The more people who vote, the closer we come to a universally accepted definition of a casual gamer.
The fact that I can only down vote some of those once is appalling. The tone of many of those posts should drive home how seriously sad our society has become. And yet we still continue to wonder why people prefer to play with AI rather than actual people…
Im sorry if the popular definition dose not suit your world view. (Something you will find happens a lot so get used to it).
lol yes because the “world” relies on urban dictionary for it’s definitions.
Ridicule the source all you like.
Citing urban dictionary is like citing wikipedia. It’s kind of frowned upon in serious academic circles.
Gw2 forums: the home of academic discussion!
See, you laugh at it when it’s the GW2 forums. What makes urban dictionary so different? What makes that website any more the authority than this one?
Please link where I said urban dictionary was a more valid source than another one.
The thread was another one of those where people argue the true meaning of casual gamer
Im sure if the Bible mentioned casual gamers there would be million of people dismissing it as the true meaning xD
Well it’s just that you seemed to be implying it. Remember tone and sarcasm don’t translate well over text. :P
I prefer to think that you inferred it :P
Stacking such op exploit.
Now THAT was cheesy.

2,3,4 and 5 is completely BS, i am as casual as anyone can be yet i outperform in any.
i rather use a PC because it is allot better then any console can ever be, i play casual games…..that’s why it’s called a casual game and not a hardcore game.
i can, at times, outperform a hardcore player simply because i learn faster and before i forget, i laugh at hardcore players because they’re wasting their time while i have all the time on the world.
I love your definiton of a casual game. : a casual is….. not a hadrcore game. Thanks for clearing that up.
Hardcore players have all the time in the world too. THEY just choose to spend it in-game where they contribute to the community, economy and over-all health of the game. We should thank them for keeping your game alive and persistent. Laughing at them is maybe a little selfish

Everyone’s definition of “casual” and “hardcore” are different. Welcome to academia.
There’s no reason we can’t have both in the same game. People who advocate the complete removal or trivialization of one type of content in favor of the other need to shove off. Whether it’s hardcore players lamenting the “dumbing down” of content, or casuals screaming for “nerfs” to hard content they feel entitled to, its all the same: One group trying to curtail another group which they have no business.
It’s like fundamentalist religious people trying to snuff out gay marriage. They have no business preventing other human beings from finding happiness.
Nah, it’s really nothing like analogy. That deals with real life stuff that affects people forever. The thing is, there are hard core games made to be hard core (like EVE online) and there are more casual games. Designers need to stay true to their visions.
Someone posted elsewhere that Lotro stopped adding raids to new content, because it wasn’t worth creating raids for 2% of the population. I don’t know if it’s true, but it’s very similar to some of the statistics I’ve read over the years about how many people actually do the hard content.
Development time is limited. So naturally people are going to barrack for the type of content they want in the game. I’m going to ask for more content that appeals to me, because that’s the content I’m interested in. It’s like we’re lobbyists. But we don’t make the decisions.
If Anet thinks that more hard core content is needed, Anet will add more hard core content. If people who want hard core content don’t get enough of it, they’ll leave the game. I’m convinced many have left this game for the reason that there’s not enough hard core content for them. The thing is, because they are a minority it’s harder to find games that have that kind of content. You can’t blame a developer for making content that will be used by a bigger percent of the player base.
And you can’t really blame people for asking for stuff they want to see in the game.
Since Turbine made that announcement their log-in figures have dropped to an ALL TIME low.

Challenging content does not have to equal frustrating content. Challenge can be fun and engaging IF it is designed well.
To this day i am still guessing why the instance gets closed instantly after the “owner” leaves/DC/getting kicked by griefers whatso ever, whats the philosophy behind that?
Its cheap?
In-game voice would be a great way to solve the bad communication and would improve ones chances of finding like minded people to add the friend list.
You’re right a phone company isn’t a great comparison. Because a phone company doesn’t tell people it will provide a service that it can’t. And for some reason if it does make a promise it can’t deliver on it’s going to be held accountable by regulators and customers. But a gaming company has no such leash to keep it in check. They can essentially say “Too bad this is what we’re giving you now. Deal with it”
Have you ever had to deal with ATT?
Or Comcast?
Just ugh. Held accountable my kitten …Poor service isn’t the same as violating their agreement with the customer. I can guarantee that no telco guarantees any level of service. If they did regulators would be all over them. That’s why you they only promise “best effort” and don’t guarantee service. If your comcast internet is down for a week guess what? They didn’t guarantee you any level of availability. And if they want to charge you for the full month they can. Because you signed a contract saying you agreed to that. More often than not they’re going to give you a credit for the time it wasn’t available. They don’t have to, but as long as the problem was caused on their end they will most likely make the offer.
LOL…. your right, in that light all Anet would be required in the telco world is to offer the game on some server how you get there is up to you, can’t connect not their problem, connection laggy not their problem, hardware not compatible not their problem, server down for maintenance not their problem, and on and on.
Compared to the telco world just look what GW2 gives you in service and updates all for the entry price, no monthly subs, but you know some folks still kitten whine.
My dad had a saying “Some people would kitten if they were hung with a new rope”
Your father doesn’t make sense, I would kitten if I were hung with any rope, that it is new, old, or recycled is irrelevant.
Exactly. Kinda crazy that people would whine about something irrelevant.
His father makes more sense than you give him credit for
I am thoroughly disappointed with LS 2.
The new ‘map’ so small it must have taken 5 minutes to create. Same with the story-line.
And.. jumping? well at-least they don’t have to balance that…
Im not even gona bother running it again for a few poxy Achi points.
1/10 epic fail.
3/10, would not read again
Indeed. that pretty much sums up LS2 episode 1: The futile search for content.
Id like to see a new feature that discourages fleeing and encourages fighting.
Maybe I`m just crazy.

Does this thread have a point?
They way you spoke suggested that you think it should be considered an exploit.
You never outright said that though, that’s true.
In fact what I actually suggested was it was only possible due to poor design.
Well the only one saying it should be is you.
I think that if a player is capable enough they should be able to solo, just how you can solo instances in WoW or BAMs in Tera.
It’s not an exploit just because you don’t believe people should be able to solo.
kitten ?
Please link where I said that “in GW2 this was an exploit.”
because it SHOULD BE impossible to solo group content
Mind enlightening everyone why?
Im not sure as to WHY its an exploit.. possibly because it SHOULD BE impossible to solo group content without the use of exploits if the scaling/balancing is good.

I would have no problems if dungeons had a solo OPTION with down_scaled loot and, obviously without the ability to then sell party slots for ridiculous amounts of gold.
My analysis:
Anet overcommitted. They released in China, and they fixed themselves to a 2 week development cycle for LS. They have to make sure that the LS bugs are fixed before anything else. It is obliterating work and fixes of the base game.
They do not have time for:
1. Real bug fixes (not the skill fact changes they do to fluff patch notes)
2. Adding more weapons
3. Adding more skills
4. Making traits attainable at level
5. Graphics control of particle effects
6. WvW work. Lots of work.So instead of saying “hey, we were off on what we wanted to do”, instead they string the playerbase along in silence, hoping they can milk 9 to 12 months without adding weapon skills, precursor crafting, and everything else they they SAID THEY WOULD DO.
You guys can say, “but they said subject to change”.
They did, but I take someone at their word. If they are off by nearly 9 months?!!!! How can you even defend that????
I believe its called Stockholm syndrome
Its not taken out of context. I quoted the whole paragraph.
Why would they say “here is what you will see”
Small print: Subject to change, suckers.
It is taken out of context.
The context is the whole post, not just a paragraph of it.
The whole artical has already been linked.
The rest of the artical discusses the things that “we will see” there was no need for me to quote the whole artical. The point I was addressing was there openeng paragraph. “The things we will see”

Small print: may not be actually added to the game.
gg
very misleading.
In January, we talked about where we wanted Guild Wars 2 to go in 2013. We’re a little over halfway through the year, and we felt it was time to give you an update on where we stand, where we’re going, and discuss in more detail some of the systems you’ll see in the second half of 2013.
Sounds like a promise to me.
A broken promise.
Taken out of context without the rest of the article, but why only read what you want to. It’s clear, 100% clear that due to how the company works, the constant changes and iteration that anything can and does change. They’ve said it before. They’ve said it in the article.
Why take something out of context to try to prove a point?

My advice.
Wear whichever armour you want.
There is only a tiny part of the community who actually care about which armour the other guy is wearing in PvE.
The OP asked for optimal… so it’s that they wish to be optimal.
That of course would depend on what he wants to optimise.

^ This.
Using my spacebar is the main reason I play MMOs!
Go naked or go home!
If the game was dying their PvP players would be leaving .. oh, right, already happening.
If the game was dying their PvE players would be leaving.. ah, right, already happening.
If the game was dying there would have been server merges.. Oh , right.
I think OP has a valid point.
No. I reckon you can burn through the content in 6 months max.
What do you consider to be a long time?
Lmao.
Have 11 internet points.
chuckle
If you truly were a guide for 4 guilded members in a run, you should certainly be in a position to be in a guild yourself where you don’t have to deal with random kittens, no?
Forced guilding?
Its bad enough that we already have forced logging-in!
The BINGO meta was last week.
We totally need in-game voice to help co-ordinate this kind of encounter.
Ball-up and AOE. The most /facepalm of ‘strategies’ in any proper MMO.
Meh. generic.
Wheres my loot?!
I believe this may be a troll thread (no offense) but what evidence is there that Dungeon gold is “killing the economy?” Because someone thinks so it is so? Seems like a post to stir up Dungeon lovers for its own sake, OR someone begrudging others the way they have chosen to enjoy the game.
I actually have not seen huge shifts in the economy for a while, though perhaps I am not buying as much as of late. Mats seem to be stable-“rare” mats still priced as expensive as they used to be, and more common mats according to the “Ascended demand”. Globs of ectoplasm have been priced similarly for many months by now, for instance.
Can u name me another other source gold being directly inject into the economy other than dungeon that can generate up to 5g+ a hour per person out of no where, just by running 4 ez path.
Buying gems with real currency and converting those gems into gold.
You`re comparing a game in Alpha testing to an almost 2 year old game? oO
gg.
Seems like some kind of anti-exploit mode.
Maybe they thought you were an AP farmer.
The chances of an organized conspiracy to kick someone for no reason and/or profit is extremely low.
You probaly didnt read the LFG and they discovered you didnt match the description in that fractal
If teams see you have 0 AR you might be kicked, they could give the person a chance in level 1, actually showing compassion until its too much to handle in the second level
You were probaly making choice commments
Not many guilds or people kick for fun or lulz. There might of been something done on your part either voluntary or involuntary that caused a vote kick. Try brushing up on the dungeon forums to minimze agitation of party members.
“organized conspiracy” It takes only one angry kid to initiate a kick vote and a second angry kid to accept.
I`ve seen kick votes initiated for the smallest of things.

InB4 the “start ur own group”. “join a guild” crowd.
I agree with you OP. The whole design is flawed but I dont expect them to do a thing about it.
Nope. We are all running around with the same cookie-cutter build and the same sparkly greatsword. Running the same content for the same green loot. Yawn
