@Mac, I don’t want to go into old news, but it matches a general trend. You saw it with teh SAB/dungeon feedback.

these players would rather be lied to than told the truth

That guy told the truth. ANet told the truth about SAB and new hard dungeons. People HATED it.

It is impossible to know whether “That guy” told the truth or not as proof was never presented.

All we know is he no longer works for Turbine.

He created a nasty divide between the community.

Much like the title of this thread is doing. Its bad for the community, its bad for the game.

These games need to provide content for everyone, not just one play style or the other, or a toxic atmosphere arises.

Most companies won’t come right out and say, you guys are a minority and we’re not going to cater to you. Why would they? Would you? They’ll do the best they can, but they’ll not usually say it.

But we’ve had comments over the years from devs from different companies, including Anet devs talking about Guild War 1, where they said the bulk of the people never do the challenging content. This isn’t something new, or something I just decided, or something I figured out recently. It’s been talked about in MMO forums for years. The most recent quote that I can find came form a lotro dev. Less than 10% of the game PvPed and did raids, not just at this point, but pretty much all along. 10% isn’t a big number to include both PvP and raids. He was talking about why they’re no longer making the raid instances they used to.

Again, if enough people were playing dungeons in general, Anet would have a dungeon team working full time on dungeons. Can you tell me why you think they wouldn’t?

Because a huge playerbase played SAB, asked them to death about it to rerelease, open old worlds etc. and nothing that even comes close to SAB in mechanics, reward system etc. has come out since what, like 1 year?

That’s why I think they wouldn’t.

A very passionate playerbase certainly but how do you know huge? Where are the stats? Anet knows how many people played it, and they know how many people didn’t. We can only guess at this.

A passionate playerbase isn’t necessarily a large one. In that same lotro dev quote, the dev said that though less than 10% of people ever raided, more than 50% of forum posts were made by raiders.

Kind of makes you think, no?

It really amazes me that former DJ turned community manager (Not Dev) Rick Heaton`s <10% statement gets posted on other forums.

Heres why:

After the ensuing kitten storm, Mr Heaton was sacked retired from his position at Turbine.

LOTROs producer has since posted:

“the 10% thing. Just drop that. I just don’t look at a game that way. I will consider anything if it is good for the game, and good for the players. There are realities like resources and time and money that do come into play. "

I`m sure Mr Heaton regrets his statement that created a nasty divide within the lotro community.

Kind of makes you think, no?

There was a thread on this but I cannot locate it.

Is this considered an exploit if you purposely fail an event to get champs?

Judging by how quickly that thread was removed- I would imagine that they do consider that particular ‘creative game-play’ to be an exploit.

its still here

That`s not the one I was referring to.

There was a thread about a particular cursed shore event being deliberately failed. That thread lasted a matter of minutes before being removed.

Edit: looks like it could have been merged into the linked thread.

Why are "elitists" viewed as the evil ones?

So, I think this brings up an important question: how do people learn fast, efficient runs? I’d assume it’s a combination of knowing the path a bit (having done it inefficiently enough times), watching videos and maybe just jumping in and professing your ignorance with an experienced group and hoping they teach you. That’s pretty well how I started, anyway, except I kept my mouth shut and just watched and followed.

Do people kick players that join and ask to be taught, or that are obviously learning?

“We have no obligation to do so. Do you realise how much time we would spend explaining if we did that for every single person? Yes its a polite thing to do. But sometimes people will just want to remove the player and relist as soon as possible. Is that really so unreasonable to you?

It seems you live in fantasy land with your unnatural optimism. But unfortunately the world isnt quite like that. Deal with it. Not everyone is willing to help others and certainly not all the time."

Yes, they do.

The ability to sell dungeon paths causes nothing but trouble. Either the buyer gets scammed or the seller gets ‘grieved’. Best solution would be to remove it from the game entirely, for the sake of a more pleasant community.

Many people live in their own little bubbles of thought and they never leave them. Usually that’s fine, until they decide that their bubble of thought is worth something more, that their idea of how the game should be is on greater footing to the thoughts of other people. When this bubble of thought cannot be backed up by evidence or rational argument past ’it’s what i think is right’ it becomes very problematic for this person then, to try and force their ideals onto other people. They risk looking foolish and can fall victim to emotional episodes.

The lesson today ladies and gents is this. If you have a problem and you feel that the game should be drastically changed to suit your bubble of thought, back your skritt up with rational reasoning and sound arguments otherwise prepare to get fried.

Why is it more satisfying? And why is dodging against a wall cheesy? I dont see any difference.

And thats fine. Im not asking you to agree with me. You either do or you don`t. I`m sure not gonna spend the past 12 hours trolling and flaming you about it.

So why do you want it stopped if its a personal opinion? Seems rather selfish to me.

I would like to see an end to stacking because it would mean an improvement to the game. If that makes me selfish then so be it.

How is that an improvement? Did you make your Nomad set already and want to try it out and pew pew afk at range while you go make a sandwich or take a nap?

Because that, ladies and gentlemen, is the only possible alternative..

The reason I am against stacking is because it is so kitten simplistic. I`ve been a hardcore raider for years and to me this game is just childs-play, with its lack of strategy and thought required. Its hard for me to understand why ANYONE would fervently defend such a basic game design.

Each to their own I guess.

So what would be the difference if people wouldn’t hug in a corner, but instead melee the boss open field? Except not being able to Fiery Rush bosses.

You mean you have never tried it? not even once?

I did (and do) often enough. For me it makes no difference if I dodge into a wall while fighting Alpha or through him, as an example. Maybe it is just me, but it feels the same to me.

I’d still like to hear from you what’s the difference, since you clearly have experience with both and therefore can tell me.

Doing damage is an exploit, why else do you think Arena Net introduced Nomad armor, the ultimate armor for real dungeon runners who don’t want to exploit by doing filthy, filthy damage.

I see the solution now: it’s to force everyone to wear Nomad armor, just like the elitists tried to make everyone wear Berserker armor. That way no one can do any damage, and we can all do dungeons the way Arena Net intended.

Oh, grow up.

Look, I get that this forum’s regulars are pro-stacking and tend to flip their kitten when it is brought up. But this goes beyond reasonable, straight past ridiculous, and over to the extreme side of sad. Please stop.

Wow, nice job kittenting on my thread, guys. I don’t even know where to begin wading through this mess.

Look, Guild Wars 2 is an ARPG: adaptability and evasion should be king. If you don’t understand how everyone exploiting the system by huddling in a corner breaks this, then I don’t even know what to tell you.

The whole irony of this is the diehard stackers tend to be the ones that I’m having to peel off the dungeon floor because they haven’t learned what x or y mob actually does.

An excellent point.

Its clear to me that stacking serves to totally trivialise fights , all mechanics can be by=passed by using over-powered dps. basically the mob dies before it can fire off an attack. Thats fine if you like the brain-dead approach but If your looking for challenging game-play, its really bad.

But like I`ve said before, many people here like spam-1-to-win content so I dont see it changing anytime soon. That of course doesnt mean that people should stop voicing their disappointment with the current system, if they did that then nothing would ever improve.

Not sure if the engine allows it, but if so, could collision detection be added for players except for dodge rolls like the way mobs are setup? I don’t mean everywhere, just inside of dungeons only.

It’s not big, but it’d go a long way into removing a lot of the cheese factor in dungeons runs.

In order for there to be a solution, there must be a problem. Stacking is not a problem. If you don’t like it then create your own group and specify that you don’t want to stack.

Secondly, so that if there is an anet reading that they don’t take the OP seriously because they’re whining about a non issue. You, however, just don’t like stacking, and want to reply in threads with people who share your view so that you can feel good about yourself.

Firstly: Its not an issue for YOU. You are not educating anyone, you are simply trying to make people think as you do.

Replying to threads where people share my opinion does not make me “feel good” I am taking part in a discussion with like minded people. You should probably try doing that.

Maybe start your own thread about how awesome stacking is. its not that hard

I don’t really care about the argument you and colesy are having, but it is extremely presumptuous to put “/thread” in a thread where you have actually not put any suggestion or discussion related to the OP.

Lets stick to the OP: collisions in game rather than collisions of polar opposite personalities.

Yes you are right. My apologies for derailing a perfectly reasonable thread. I appear to have show my frustration towards people who try to stifle discussion when the discussion does not match their personal opinion.

I’d also be extremely curious to know what percentage of Guild Wars 1 players even participated in GvG.

Why?

Because so many people are saying every Guild Wars 1 player expected it to be here, when I’m convinced most Guild Wars 1 players never even attempted it. It’s this huge debate all the time. Maybe there’s a reason it wasn’t a priority for Anet to put it in the game.

While I agree that a game’s developer needs to be sympathetic to the desires of the customer, it stop if it goes against the developer’s design philosophy for the game And mounts, duels, GvG either never were to be or dropped during development for reasons they don’t have to tell us. Remember PvE is happy, pretendy, fun-time land were all races get alone and where we all help one another and nobody can grief anyone else (so no GvG or duels in PvE), in a world littered with enough Asuran Way Points to be within a 15-30 second jog to anything of interest, once you find them.

I guess you have never heard the expression: The customer is always right.

You sound like you`re exactly the kind of consumer that game developers what.

I am a customer with standards.

Can we just stop ?

They really should just sticky a thread about

  • Mounts
  • Duels
  • Cantha
  • Elona
  • New Race
  • New Class
  • New Legendarys
  • Precursors (Crafting & Scavenger Hunt)
  • Guild Vs Guild
  • Guild Halls
  • Player Housing

After that just merge all the threads that pop up about those topics into the corresponding one or delete the new thread while giving the “A discussion already exists about <InsertTopicHere> post your thoughts / concerns here <ProvideLink>”

Or..

They could start developing the stuff that their customers are asking for?

Please fix the Legendary Acquisition Sy

There is nothing to fix as It’s not “broken” as is evidenced by many players that actually have them.

Now if you want to request that they change the method (or add another), that is a valid discussion.

TBH, if casual “poor” players (which includes me) could get a Legendary easily, they would not be very “Legendary”.

There is nothing legendary about legendary weapons except the legendary amount of gold required to obtain one. And as we all know that only requires a legendary swipe of a credit card.

They are skins..

Making gathering tools account wide

Hey, I’m not sure if it’s supposed to go here, but I’ve an idea that would most of the players (atleast those I know) really appreciate.
I’m talking about making gathering tools from Gem Shop account wide, not just account bound. It would work like the Wardrobe, you select a slot and choose which tools you want, after you unlock them from Gem Shop for your account. Also it would be nice if every gathering tool got the same effect as the Watchwork Sprocket mining pick, just with a different material.
I think this would help sales, since a lot more people would think it’s worth it to buy more than one type and also it would make life easier, just choosing what you want instead of running to the bank everytime you want to change a character.

This is probably the ideal method for me, especially if they would apply it to weapons, armour and trinkets too.
whether they would put this much effort into their game or not, is for another thread.
