The only thing about this that irritates me is that, as a Mesmer, that just nerfed the poop out of my only good elite for PvE.
I’m not grasping exactly how scepter is now viable option. It seems like very little was changed about it, but I’ve seen more than a few people in map, and my guild, mention they were switching over to it..
Would anyone mind helping me understand why it is now viable, and why anyone would switch over to it? :x
Yeah, I made a Female Sylvari Mesmer, and it took me up until about 5 days after I’d hit 80 to actually pick a look. I ended up turning it into a male, and basing my colors around the Mystic Staff.
Well, I run staff, and, honestly, the Bifrost is very feminine. Is anet planning on releasing more legendary weapons, some that look less girly?
Anyone know of any? :x
Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong section, but does anyone have one of those two open currently? They’re apparently bugged in my world.
If you’re playing a condition build you shouldn’t be asking for it to be more selfish at all. You should either be fine with it as-is, or asking for it to prioritize hitting enemies over buffing allies (as the above poster pointed out).
Half the buffs you get from Winds of Chaos are wasted on condition builds (Fury). Unless you’re running bleed-on-crit sigils or something, I guess.
Also, supposedly it bounces to whoever’s closest (according to wiki anyway, though I’ve never bothered testing it myself), so… if you’re really that worried about getting all the buffs yourself, stay at point-blank range.
I find the whole idea of only wanting to buff yourself rather silly, though.
It’s early and I just recently woke up, so forgive me if I’m not catching onto something here, but I’m not worried about “getting all the buffs myself” my point is completely that it is an attack, therefor it should act as one. I feel that it runs off to buff people far too much as is. It’s an auto attack, I shouldn’t have to worry about only getting 1 hit in because it is bouncing from player to player. I want it to hit monsters more.
Yes. I is MrPromethious’ condition build.
I’m not a confusion build, I’m conditions. From what I’ve read those are two separate things. I do PvE mostly, I’ve already got my build for WvW set up just fine. I am focusing on PvE.
Oh, and on a side note before I spend all this money on what-nots; Will the upcoming changes to mesmer effect my build in such a way that I’d be better off swapping to a different one now, before I spend my gold on condition gear/weapons?
I’m doing a condition build using staff as my main weapon, I’m at the point where I’m about to start buying my Exotic gear, but I’m not sure which type of gear I need. Would you guys mind telling me what type would work best?
I know most of you won’t care, but this is for people who are having trouble with Mesmer, being hard to level and all, and a bit for me (I’m pretty excited!) but I have something, I think, is awesome to share!
I just solo’d my first champion! I didn’t even get put in the down state, or even get more than half my health taken away!
I was exploring the Brisban Wildlands and stumbled upon a section I’d never seen before, I ended up exploring it a bit more and started a quest to summon some ghost champion. I thought for sure I’d be taken down, but thought I’d get it the ’ol try anyways. To my surprise, I ended up taking him down by myself!
Ah, I see where you got quickness from. I typed swiftness, not quickness, on my post up there. I didn’t see that.
I am talking ONLY about movement speed, though. As I said I do NOT want to be forced to use a focus just so I move faster. I want it to be a utility, like other classes. I want to walk faster, I while still being able to have my Greatsword/Staff build, not being forced to swap for focus just to move a little faster.
I think you’re the one that needs to work on it. In my very first post I"m talking about movement speed only. Not how fast I attack. Then you come in saying That’s quickness. That is not quickness. I corrected you and said, once more, I’m talking about movement speed only. And you, once again, attempt to correct something that wasn’t wrong in the first place.
That’s quickness. Nobody is talking about quickness.
I think you’re posting in the wrong thread, then. I’ll go ahead and repeat what the OP said.
"
My sugestion is to rework Signet of Midnight:
Passive: Grants a 25% increase in movement speed.
Active: Blind nearby foes.
Blind: 3 s
Radius: 360
Range: 360"
Right there, he is talking about movement speed. That is exactly what I’m talking about. Where you got quickness from, I do not know, but the OP, and many other people, are talking strictly about movement speed like the Ranger signet that increases movement speed.
I’m not talking about swiftness and double attack speed. I’m talking about movement speed only. Like the ranger movement utility.

I don’t think anyone should be telling us to use Focus. What if I don’t effing want to?
My build is built around Staff and Greatsword. I don’t think it is fair that I have to forfeit half of my build just so I can move faster. What if I encounter some mob that insists on fighting while I’m moving quickly because I’ve got my focus equipped? Welp, half of my skills are now gone. I’ve only got either Greatsword or Staff. Not both. That is like saying every class should only have one weapon for attacks, and one for speed. It’s just a bit unfair.
I’ve tried typing this out like 4 times, I’ve tried to make it sound less selfish, but I can’t so here it is plain and simple.
I’m tired of my staff buffing other people who AREN’T in my party. If some random guy comes by to join the fight with me, I didn’t ask him to join, he just feels like joining, my staff 1 should focus on hitting mobs or buffing me. Not buffing Johnny McCool with Might. I’m all for teamplay, when I welcome it, but I don’t like being forced into teamplay like this. I just feel like staff is already slow enough. I trait for conditions and double bounce for a reason.
Go ahead and say it is selfish, I know it is, but I just feel like it should only buff others who are in my party, or atleast not count as one of my bounces if it buffs someone else.
This. This 1000 times.
A fair fight? Are you serious? You were trying to 5v1. Is that “fair” to you? Stop having your kitten just cause you need to L2P. Go QQ elsewhere.
Oh, I didn’t want to change it. I’m just very curious. I thought it was a good weapon, the build suits me.. I just don’t see anyone using it, I didn’t know if I was missing something.
The lack of Mesmer Charr makes me regret me choices :V
There is a lack of builds on the “Find your Build!” thread that involve Scepter/Sword,
I really enjoy this build and have been using it a lot lately. I’ve formed a build for it, and, thus far, it has been useful.
I guess my question is; Why has nobody made a build for them? Is it really that not good, and I just haven’t noticed yet?
So, what about the current build I posted? Would that work well with Scepter/sword?
When using a scepter, you produce clones like a madman. There are an endless number, and very rarely do I not have 3 out. I made a build around this idea.
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mMmMcz9cMbLamML0lMGG0aGcVMaVca
So, my question is this. Would I be able to replace that build that just keeps clones alive longer and instead use the traits that cause conditions on a clones death, and have it go into effect each time a clone is replaced by another one, or does that not count as a death?
Hey there. I’m currently running staff with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-B3mkM7dqM&feature=plcp that build.
But, in all honesty, Staff is horrid when it’s PvE and a short battle. I don’t have much time to stack my conditions, and the auto attack is just absolutely terrible damage-wise. So, I feel like I need to get the communities opinion about this and see what can be done.
I absolutely love the look of Greatswords. The point of the end-game is to look nice and do damage. Greatswords are one of the best looking items in game, in my opinion. You can actually see them, where as other weapons disappear under your clothing. But, I’ve been told this is a “noob” mesmer weapon. People use it because it has a decent range and some decent damage. But, it doesn’t make for a good main weapon. Is this true? If not; what are some good builds for it?
Sword/sword appeals to me aswell. It’s a nice combo, I like the attacks on it, but I haven’t found an amazing build on this. Infact, I don’t see very many Mesmers running this at all. Why? Are there no good reasons to run it? I see Sword/piston and I know people like it because of the stun, but sword/sword seemed pretty viable to me.
Torch, I’ve been told is rarely used as it sucks.
Scepter is good for confusion, but in PvE that’s next to useless.
So, would you guys mind giving me some tips and tricks? Some builds and opinions? Thanks very much.!
(Note; I’m leaving for work now, I won’t respond until later. Thanks again!)
I’ve never played WoW. I’ve done worse. I played Maplestory for 7 years :x
No, that’ on the party. Not me.
This is my opinion, based off my experiences.
I used to enjoy AC. I didn’t care for the armor, but I liked doing the runs. It was pretty chill. A nice way for me to kill an hour and spend some time on Skype with my friends.
Now?
Now, I find, AC to be a mass of burning hell and anger. EVERYTHING is buffed. I’ve run with atleast 4 different groups, 2 of which were all on Skype coordinating our moves (We’re usually extremely good at group events and can overcome most things.) and they’ve taken atleast 2-3 hours. The last of which took 4 hours, and we didn’t even finish. I just left to go CoF.
This is a bit extreme. Granted, some of you guys may do much better, the point being is it had NO need to be buffed to this degree. I shouldn’t need to worry about running from the Waypoint to the Howler King without dying. I never worried about that before. I could easily make it, without even getting hit. Now I’m lucky to make that first left turn without 15 things tackling my kitten to the ground. Oh, dodge roll, you might say. We all did. Everyone but the thief got their kitten handed to them.
I understand that the “If you don’t like it, don’t do it.” rule applies, but once again, the principle of it is that it is far too buffed now. It takes far too long. It needs to be brought back down..
#Begin trolling/flaming/whatever.
None of my other friends have complained about this, so I don’t know if it is just me or not.
Within the last couple days I’ve been doing some events and only getting bronze rewards. Except, I’ll be there from start to finish, attacking the entire time, I even use Time Warp and speed up my attacks, I summon illusions so they do damage, I drop Chaos Storm and do even more damage. Why shouldn’t I be getting gold? Last night a friend and I duo’d a champion in a Norn area. It took us around 15 minutes. That’s 15 minutes of NON STOP ATTACKING. What would be the issue? Why wouldn’t I get a freaking gold from that? I didn’t even get loot, yet he did. What’s the issue here? I’ve tried using different weapons to see if maybe my staff just wasn’t pumping out enough damage, but it happens with all my weapons.

Found the vegan.
Hey guys, I’ve recently seen a lot of people dissing Greatsword Mesmers.
Personally, I enjoy the attacks for it, and I love the way Greatswords look.
But, are they not a viable weapon for PvE and PvP?
I’m saying what you think are amazing things (I finished most of the daily running a dungeon)…should be the norm, not an exception!
Every day, you should be able to finish (or come close) to finishing the dailies by doing dungeon or two as long as you choose those dungeons intelligently.
Every day, you should be able to finish (or come close) to finishing the dailies by doing WvW if you remain aware of it and seek out the tasks.
Every day, you should be able to finish (or come close) to finishing the dailies by levelling up a character and exploring a zone and doing events.
I don’t understand what you are complaining about.
This describes the dailies perfectly. I can easily complete the daily in a short amount of time by doing something like PvP, WvW, or just wandering about in a zone looking for things to do. If you do not like the daily, then don’t do it. It’s an option, not a mandatory point. I think you’re complaining just for the sake of complaining; as there is nothing wrong with dailies. I’ve yet to have ANY trouble with one, and hell, I’m actually almost done with my monthly by doing my normal stuff. I say that’s pretty nice.
Hey guys. This is kind of a 2 part post.
1. I was told that, in general, Mesmer is a weak class in PvE and there aren’t any good builds that keep clones alive that are worth even trying.
2. Regardless, I need a good build. I do Solo, like 99% of the time, and I do PvE, 99% of the time, so I’d like a build that doesn’t focus on buffing the party, I just focus on me.
Thanks for the help.
I’m giving this one last shot, if nothing comes of this, I’ll either take a long break from GW2 or just move on to something else.
I don’t know what class to play. It’s driving me insane. I’ve done each of the starting zones more times than I care to think about. I’ve tried most classes to a decent level. Only ones I stopped playing at a low level were Mesmer and Engie.
I’ve got a level 80 ranger. but I’ve got some issues with it that make me just flat out not want to play it.
Level 6x Guardian. I just really don’t like this class. It seems, despite this game not supporting “holy trinity” and giving every class the aility to fill any role, that this class is tank. Pure and simple, I’ve tried so many builds and there just isn’t a good DPS build. It’s all tank and bunker. I’m a solo player, I don’t want to “outlast” and enemy. Then it takes far too long for me to do anything worth while.
Level 5x Warrior. I feel extremely squishy. I tried to go to help some friends with an event, and a monster 3 levels below me kept hitting me for half my health. This was a normal mob, nothing fancy or super powered, and it did this. I’m fine if I’m in a group of 1 or 2, but god forbid I get any more on me or I’m done for.
Elementalist, I just can’t do the element swapping. It’s 100% not my play style and I hate that you MUST swap.
Necro, I’m really not sure what I don’t like about it. I may try one out again. I think my biggest issue was the minions being glitched.
Hey guys, I just needed a quick opinion on my build.
Keep in mind a few things;
1. This is my first build I’ve ever made. I am most likely terrible with this.
2. I made this with PVE AND SOLO play ONLY. I do not give 2 flips about party play, as of yet, and I do not run PUG dungeons. I Only go with close friends.
3. Solo and PVE.
Thanks, guys.
It took me about an hour to figure it out, but I got it working.
It was a WoW legendary mouse, and after some googling, I see that a bunch of people have the same issue. I finally found a fix for it.
Mods, you can close this thread n.n
Hey guys. I recently got a gaming mouse to help my gameplay. I previously used a controler, but decided to switch.
My issue is that none of the buttons, besides the left and right click, do not work in-game. Anyone know why?
Why not just tell the enemy you need the PoI and they’ll simply let you walk up and get it?
Oh no, I don’t have an issue with a swap here or there, I did it on my Ranger. The thing is, on my ranger, I ran Greatsword almost constantly, but every once in awhile I’d pop shortbow and just sit back. That only for a few minutes, and it rarely happened. I’m fine with that. What gets me about Eles is that it is almost a constant swapfest. Not my thing. I’m just going to try something else out. Thank you for your help, though.
Sorry, guys. I posted this last night, went to bed, got up, went to work, then went out for some time with my girlfriend.
Thanks everyone for replying, this clearly isn’t the class for me. I’ll keep trying to look for something.
I’ve got a Ranger Asura. I put a lot of effort into him, I enjoyed him a lot.
My issue is the size.
It didn’t bother me during my leveling because the main point was leveling, not how you look. Once I hit 80, however, how you look becomes a large portion of the game. I went and got lots of cool armor, I thought I looked neat, when I opened my character menu. Then I would look in-game and realize I’m nothing. You could hardly see me. I could have the best looking armor in game, and nobody would know.
How do you guys get past this?
Do you have a medium armor Asura that looks decent?
Well, here I am. Either about to find a new, faster, way to level, or most likely quit.
My first few classes, flopped. I didn’t get the hang of anything, until I hit my ranger. I leveled up and played using a Greatsword. It was awesome, and I loved it. I hit 80, and ran into my first issue. I was an Asura, you see. I was very short, and I disliked the fact that you couldn’t see any of my armor without zooming in greatly. It was an issue. So, I thought I’d start a different class.
I tried different classes, all but Engie, and got them to around level 10 and decided I didn’t like it. I wanted to level more, but I got so bored because I’d already done all the areas on my Ranger. With each character I made, I got more and more bored with each area because I’d done it already.
Now I’m at an impass. I want to continue on, I think I’d really like Mesmer, but I cant seem to find the motivation to mindlessly ruff my way through any starting area, because I’d done it before.
What is another, faster or just as fast, way to level without forcing myself to go through the starting areas only?
I was having a hard time picking a class after my Ranger. I was walking about in the Norn area and was inspired by an Elementalist. Usually, I wouldn’t even consider one. I hate swapping, it messes with my OCD. This Ele though, didn’t swap. She said she was pure fire. She had awesome damage, didn’t die often, and was just what I was looking for.
I was leveling my Ele, enjoying it VERY much, and it came up in Map Chat and people started insulting me, calling me a selfish kitten and saying that I’m and idiot for not swapping constantly.
Is it seriously that big of an issue? I feel like quitting now, I haven’t enjoyed the other classes, and now I’m being harassed and told that I won’t be able to play me class at all later if I don’t fix myself now.
Almost 800 views and only 7 replies. Cmon, guys. More people that agree, the more likely the Devs will notice.
Hello, everyone. I hope all is well.
I’d like to start off by saying this is a NEW issue. I’m not sure what caused it, but whatever.
When I started a few months ago, Maw was nice, not too many people, it moved at a nice pace, everyone got their share of kills in. Hell, more times than not I was able to get GOLD in every single part, including the weak guys who spam to the right that usually die in seconds.
Recently, however, I’m getting bronze on the 1st part (Protecting the town), the 2nd part (Escorting him to the shrine), and not even ranking on the weak guys. This is due to a huge increase in people participating in the event.
I have NO issue with more people in the event, that’s awesome, this game is about team work, after all. My issue is that it doesn’t scale like other events do. In most events the more people participating, the more mobs spawn. This event doesn’t follow this pattern, and when you have a lot of level 80s swooping in and 1 hitting mobs, it is almost impossible to tag anything.
I really do think it needs to be reworked to follow the same pattern as the other events.
Thank you for your time, hopefully the masses agree, and hopefully this is fixed.
:]
Nah, my FPS has gone down by a stupid amount. I asked around in “map” chat a few times, and lots of people are having the issue.
Sorry for the late reply, guys. I was at work.
I don’t ask this because of the Daily. I can get that done fairly simple with some Grawl Archers. My issue is just day-to-day PvE. I don’t “die” often, I can usually kill stuff before anything too bad happens, but I have major issues with dodging. I guess I just need to learn he mechanics of the mobs I’m against.
