If you attended the event and did not receive a chest, please contact Support.

I’m curious to know, how far along did I need to be in the chain of events leading to the defeat of the Ancient Karka to qualify for a box? I didn’t make it to the last step but got pretty close to it, and would like to know if I have grounds to contact support.

Client crashes when traveling to other areas

Same issue here but for some reason seems to be getting worse in last few weeks

Latest NVIDIA drivers / 32 bit windows 7
- approx 30% risk of crash to desktop every time I change areas

(Most recently crashed at end of long personal story quest – which means I need to do area again from the start)

Is this acknowledged as a bug/design issue or is the “fix” to run at video settings which are less than optimum visually or install a 64 bit OS ?

I did not buy GW2 to run it on reduced graphics when it has such wonderful art design

On related topic I wonder what is done with the automated error messages which my system is telling me that it is sending to Arenanet every time this happens ?

I had the same problem using the same system set-up. I’ve been posting how I fixed the problem on a few similar topics.

Just to be totally clear: the fix below worked to fix my out-of-memory errors on a 32-bit windows system with an NVIDIA graphics board. I’m not as bold as to claim this will fix it for everyone, but I recommend people with a similar system to give it a try. Having gotten the disclaimer out of the way, let me quote myself:

I’ve had the same problem for a while, and found some advice for it that helped me get rid of it. If your issue is caused by the same factors as mine was, it might help you too. If you’re running Windows 7 on 32-bit with an NVIDIA graphics board, you might want to give this a try.

(You’ll have to copy/paste that link into your browser manually.)

It describes how to make more system memory available to applications. It’s a support page for a different software product, but the actions it describes are related to general Windows behavior and also benefit GW2.

Here’s the relevant part:

To enable the 3GB switch on Windows Vista™ or Windows 7:

  1. Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
  2. At the command prompt, enter “bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072”
  3. Restart the computer.

Read the link carefully though, you might need to undo this change if your system starts misbehaving in other way. The link also has 3-step instructions of how to turn it back off.

Also, setting your resolution to “Windowed Fullscreen” in the in-game video options appears to improve things, if you’re not running like that already.

I hope this helps someone.

What’s that reason then? I can’t for the life of me see how the meaning of the word “legendary” pertains to the weapons of that name.

yeah…. have you opened the TP lately and searched “skin” you may notice that most of these skins are 2g-20g atm… so in all reality, everyone in this game regardless of weather they spent real money on gems or not can get these skins.

Were there a few million of them for sale then? I guess they’d better hurry and make a mystic forge recipe to get rid of all the excess skins!

If ANet is at all clever about datamining, they can draw valuable conclusions from these forums. What can only be anecdotal evidence to us, doesn’t have to be so for them.

They are in the position to relate every user’s gem-buying habits, actual keys bought with said gems, actual keys spent on opening chests this event, actual rare skins received from said chests, total number of posts made on this forum and their opinion on the results of their chest-opening as expressed on this forum.

They can do so because our posting identities here use the same account as we use to play the game. All of that put together might be quite enough to establish a sample-size large enough to establish the general customer satisfaction off of, like polls do.

I’m not saying they do this, but they might, because all information is available to them.

What kind of gain should I expect from a crafting booster?

I’m not 100% sure if they actually do stack, but I’ve found it incredibly effective to use a crafting booster at times when the WvWvW artisan bonus was at 20%.

Under those boosts, I could finish tiers incredibly cheap, hardly needing anything other than discovering full gear sets for my own characters and some miscellaneous side discoveries (runes/sigils/bags/potions/etc.)

Never doing exp Arah again - fire this employee

The problem with people complaining about this dungeon is that the vast majority haven’t even completed all the previous dungeons and some haven’t done any at all.

Throughout all the dungeons leading up to Arah you learn all the mechanics, you improve your skill and profession understanding. You end up finding people who are also skilled and reliable and whom you learn to play as a team with.

This process is entirely skipped by most of the people who complain. I don’t understand why people do Arah knowing it’s the highest level dungeon in game and expect it to be easy.

If you struggle in Arah I’d advice to go do all the other dungeons on all the paths. If you can get through all of them with your team then you should be able to tackle Arah (with patience… and if they finally open the gate to allow access to the instance in Desolation!)

Probably because a great many people don’t bother with dungeons before their personal stories end up at the “Kill Zhaitan” objective, and then they go to Arah because they want to finish the story.

Putting the eighth dungeon at the end of the story, while making all other dungeons optional is an odd choice. They should either not put a dungeon at the end, or include them all in the personal story.

Another reason: people won’t bother with dungeons that won’t give them a reward they care about. People preview all the armors in LA and many of them decide upon the Arah armor.

With no good incentive to do something, it’s no great surprise people won’t do it.

Manasa Devi.7958

Some runes are soulbound because they’re sold in LA by the dungeon equipment merchants for dungeon tokens, and everything they sell is soulbound.

I agree though, they’re pointless as a random drop unless you’re lucky enough to actually want one. I’m pretty sure that only happens in a minority of cases.

If these runes are really supposed to be soulbound, I’d prefer something other in their position on the random loot tables. Something actually useful.

then GW2 may not be a good choice of game

No, GW2 is perfectly viable except for a tiny bit of content that is totally out of place in the larger game that perfectly suits my style of play. I think they made a mistake to put dungeon story mode on a different level of play.

What we have now is a game that you can spend weeks having fun on, happily ignoring dungeons (because frankly, I don’t even care to miss out on them) only to run into the final story step requiring the Arah dungeon, leaving me with a game I can’t even bother to finish.

Then Multiplayer games are probably not for you. They kind of need those things. I hear WoW is easy enough without co-ordination. You should try that MMO, Seriously.

Nonsense. Only a small subset of multiplayer games require those things, and most of that small number only require it for a small subset of the things you can do in them.

I can do multiple DEs in the time it takes to cut down the first few trash mobs in CA storymode because of their pointlessly inflated health. The prolonged fights with mobs that are essentially the same ones you meet outside the dungeon, just a bit more buff, will never ever become fun for me.

Effort, Risk, and Reward in Dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Manasa Devi.7958

Manasa Devi.7958

I will write it again, as I did in many other posts:

Explorable dungeons are NOT meant to be done by random players (read: pugs). That’s the official statement. That’s how the game is designed.

Sure, but that leaves the game with a glaring problem: it has no “on-demand” content for casual, unorganized play.

There’s DEs, but they’re unreliable. It’s pretty much a roll of the dice whether or not you’ll be able to do the more interesting ones during a given play session, unless you play for hours and hours on end. Want to experience killing a dragon? They’re on what, 3 hour timers? Good luck if you just have 1.5 hours. Want to do a temple liberation event in Orr? Too bad, that temple you’ve never done before is already under pact control. Again. Just like yesterday and the day before.

The game really needs some stuff that you can reliably do whenever you want it, and the only reasonable way to have that, is if it’s in instances. If the only instances are dungeons that demand more of most players than they’re willing to invest, that leaves the game barren for those players.

That’s all well and good, but mastering dungeons is a colossal waste of time, as opposed to many real-life endeavours. Mastering the art of playing dungeons has no application other than playing more dungeons. I guess there might’ve been a point to it if dungeons were actually fun to play, and not a dull, monotonous chore.

GW2 Dungeons need re-balancing, imo

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Manasa Devi.7958

Dungeons are nothing like the rest of the game, they’re at a totally different level. I don’t think anyone will disagree that you need to learn to play dungeons. There would be no problem with that if dungeons actually motivated me to learn to play them.

“Learning to play” dungeons serves no other purpose than to play more dungeons, because nothing else in the game requires me to excel at the style of play required to play dungeons. And here’s where the whole thing comes apart: dungeons are dreadfully boring. After the ridiculously long time it took us to whittle away the obscenely large health totals of the first few trash mobs in the Catacombs (story mode), I would’ve logged off if I wasn’t there with guildmates that I didn’t want to let down. I was bored with what I was doing 5 minutes into it. Design like that doesn’t entice me to adapt to the required playstyle, it turns me away because it’s not worth the bother.

And there’s more bother: I also need to respec and switch equipment between playing dungeons and open world content. Because my open world build can’t survive dungeons, and my dungeon build is far too defensive to be efficient in the open world. All in all, dungeons aren’t worth my time and effort. Fun content is worth investing time and effort into. GW2 dungeons aren’t. Even the rewards are discouraging me from playing more dungeons: I really don’t need those generically skinned hats with useless stats that storymode slaps you in the face with for putting up with it.

And the final nail in the whole dungeon deal, was finding out that my story ends in the last dungeon. I’ve been looking at the “Kill Zhaitan” objective for 2 weeks now, and I don’t have the slightest urge to act upon it. I don’t expect to be sticking for very long with a game I can’t even be bothered to finish.

I’d ask to not just focus on making repeated play more attractive, but also do something to encourage initial play. I haven’t done anything except storymode AC and CM, and am loathe to set foot into any dungeon ever again. My reluctance to be confronted with another slap-in-the-face generically skinned story mode reward hat with useless stats, far outweighs any desire to be dragged along Destiny’s Edge’s entirely uninteresting reunion story while slogging it out with unfun enemies.

Badges - what am I doing wrong?

in WvW

Posted by: Manasa Devi.7958

Manasa Devi.7958

I got a grand total of 2 badges for 50 kills. (I stopped playing the second the monthly achievement pinged.) I don’t have anything to compare it to, because those are the only 50 kills I ever made in WvWvW. Seems a bit poor.

I see people talk about tagging enemies to ensure loot. So, does qualifying for kill count and xp rewards demand less effort than qualifying for loot? Having so far only played a character that doesn’t sling huge AoE damage all over the place, I can’t say I’m impressed with the rewards.

I don’t get this at all.

Sovereign Eye became aggressive, I put some hurt on it, avoiding its own attacks. Very quickly, before I got “into the groove” of the fight, there was a blast, and there were 2 lesser eyes. All three eyes retreated, ending up in a formation with the sovereign one in the middle, and they started spamming purple torpedoes.

A frontal assault seemed impossible, so I went for the flank. Trahearne just stood in one place, spamming attacks, totally ignoring the enemy missiles, but seemingly taking no damage at all. He kept this up without changing his pace until the fight was over. Myself, I just spammed my staff auto-attack at the Sovereign Eye from the side. I was completely ignored. It took 10 minutes of this to finish off the eye, during which I made coffee.

Was this mission changed with the latest update? Someone mentioned a “landmine hell”, but I saw nothing remotely like that. What was supposed to happen? Surely not an afk-able fight?

Manasa Devi.7958

If they do anything like that, it’s probably completely transparent and innocuous for items traded in large volumes, like base materials. Matching buyer stack size to seller stack size would have a nasty impact on people bundling up things that are usually bought in singles though. Every single bought would be matched by a seller offering a single, and the bundled items would not sell until all singles are gone.

By the way, I have seen stacks I posted shrink, and partial revenue turn up in my pick-up tab. They definitely don’t wait until a stack has been completely sold.

Another notion just crossed my mind: I don’t know if it’s just me or if this happens to everyone, but some things I put up on the TP will be shown as posted “seconds ago” when I look at my status tab, even hours later. If the TP does use a straightforward ‘first in first out’ system but my items are always considered posted just seconds ago, perhaps they get lost in the shuffle because of that.

Whatever the reason, there’s definitely something odd going on with some of my sales.

Number of items having to do with selling time?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Manasa Devi.7958

Manasa Devi.7958

Had this happen to me multiple times.
I’ve had stacks of 250 set on a reasonable price and they didn’t sell over the whole night!
I then made a stack of 100 and one of 150 (wasting another 5% listing price) for the same exact prices and they sold within seconds.
This is very annoying if you are sitting on a lot of items as I have to periodically check to see if a stack got sold to sell the next -_-

Well, your and my experience above does seem to point to the problem being with bundled items. Lacking an official answer (so far), I’ll just stop putting big bundles up for sale, or even small bundles if it’s items people tend to buy singles of. If that doesn’t help, at least it won’t hurt either, except for a little bit of extra time spent on the TP.

Number of items having to do with selling time?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Manasa Devi.7958

Manasa Devi.7958

I started suspecting they used a ‘last in first out’ system, but someone on another forum told me that it is most likely a matter of the TP trying to match the sizes of the stacks sellers offer and buyers request so it doesn’t have to break up seller’s stacks when it doesn’t have to. If this is how it is done, that’s pretty unfair.

Here’s an example from a few days ago:

While crafting, I discovered a rune, and I immediately crafted one more because it was sitting in the sweet spot for crafting experience gain.

I posted these 2 identical runes WELL below the lowest asking price, I wanted a quick turnover, so I could reinvest in crafting materials and continue crafting. Well, no such luck I’m afraid! It took me 6 hours to sell it, during which time I periodically checked the status on the TP. I witnessed the number of items at the price I first set rising and falling again and again, getting as high a 7 at one point, and frequently dropping back to 2. My two, that had been on there the longest. Dozens of sales must’ve taken place before mine finally sold.

Whatever the technical reason for this, it’s not exactly a fair way of doing business. I expect to be beaten to a sale by people who undercut me, but I certainly don’t expect to be beaten by people arriving later and selling at the same price.
