in short: I don’t like that…
- the badge costs gold instead of WvW badges (since when do you actually earn gold in WvW?)
- you have to buy each colour seperate, so if two commanders have bought the same colour there is no way to choose a different one
What was the motivation behind that decision?
I’m ignoring the hate here, can’t talk to Anise either after Kasmeer told me that I should. I’ll keep this thread open while I’m exploring the new map hope for a fix soon.
(SPOILER: I talked to Claire, Arton, the Servant and Estelle. The dynamic event bar is now gone and Kasmeer want’s me to talk to Anise, since I should have solved the puzzle I guess)
EDIT: LOL, NOT a bug. Look at the map!! genious.

If you really have done all that you’ve claimed you must have easily enough mats to craft ascended armor for more than one character.
the drops are just a bonus, crafting is the main way to get it imho
ok I’m gonna start running fractals from now on O__O
Not rich, just a lot of fractals… here’s my fractal/dungeon loot section of my bank!
Wish I could sell those chests >.>
what’s in those chests in the bottom 2 rows?
got my 2nd one too, after about 20-30 chests
Fractals aren’t time travels though, they aren’t real. I read an explanation somewhere once, but they only show images of something that happened, it’s not the real thing.
I really loved the boss-fight against the Duke though, felt really well balanced. Getting there would have felt more rewarding if the way to it would have been a longer road though… I agree with the “less handholding please” statement.
SPOILER
Helping Rytlock to find the crown pieces; so anticliamtic. This legendary, special, mystical crown, just being scattered around like nothing. All I did was following the green star, search some rubbles and repeat. That was so uninteresting and gave me the biggest ’’meh’’ feeling I’m sure even ArenaNet could feel a cold breeze in their neck.
I agree with this, it’s too much handholding for something that is a permanent addition to the game. I don’t have to complete this on day 1. Why not give the people some hints (see: Halloween, the first one) where people have to follow the clues (and not some markers) to find the item. It should feel like a difficult search. I had all parts comleted in less than 10minutes(
I’m from drakkar lake and have the same problem… can’t find a guild with more than 5 people online when I’m playing.
lol Roy, you have an excellent point there
Did he?
Honestly, I don’t know. It seems that the letter you posted is the one WP was talking about.
Maybe they’ll put in a book about the dragons and their names into the Priory-library, so you could say that the Pact-commander had access to those all along.
I don’t know if it was stated here already (since I have no time to read up) but Woodenpotatoes mentioned in his latest Q&A that we, the player, learned the name of Mordremoth from a mail we got from E.
It’s a nice article from last year, thanks for the post. They specificly said that they want roles to play an important part:
“It’s our goal to introduce more systems that encourage play within a wide variety of roles, not just those two. Scouts, siege masters, and defenders are only a sampling of the roles we intend to add to.”
I’d like that. I’d like to see gameplay that would be unique to specific roles too, this would make the game much more diverse. Think of how Team Fortress has those huge differences between classes and how fun it is to experience some totally new ways to play the game.
As it is now though, people who scout have quite a boring job to do. I’ve heard from people on our server who watch tv-shows / play handheld games while scouting in their towers. They stay there, talk to our commanders via teamspeak and get no reward (whether good gameplay nor good loot) out of it. A more active way of scouting shows in the new map EotM, you can build scout-probes in your map. Imho thats a wonderful tactic and really helpful, but wasted in a map where people ignore defense and just flip the castles of one another. Also what do you get for placing such a probe? Nothing really.
ah, cut them some slack I guess it’s not an easy thing to do
This would bring hiding in castles/towers to a whole new level of difficulty for the occupants. And not easy for the scouts to spot as many players in a zerg as possible. I’m not sure about this.
as an anti-abuse mechanic you could include the spotting mechanic in the graph: When you, as a scout, click on an enemy player, the enemy player will be spotted and for a short time marked on the map for all to see.
The number of spottings could tell players how active the scout in the tower works.
here a suggestion how to reward scouting: an UI which every player can open on the WvW map he/she’s currently on. Looks like this:
http://i.imgur.com/EKz1gjo.jpg
Each occupied structure (towers & castles) list players who are in the building for more than 5minutes. Players have to flag themselves as scouts via talking to an npc in there to come up in the list.
Players can then freely donate any amount of money they choose. Commanders can make shoutouts to his zerg: “Please donate a few silver to xy, he’s in TS and scouts for a while now”. etc.
The money players donate in this UI gets transferred to the players mailbox directly.
didn’t call you stupid, I said that that action seemed stupid, nothing more…
I don’t need gold, so it just uses up bank space.
Sorry for being rude, but this seems just stupid. If you don’t want it, why do you keep it, when you can turn it into money (even if you don’t need money).
I see there is no way to reason with the mount-haters… a sad thing.
the thing is: if it’s tradeable and only a percent of the players get’s the item and puts it on the tp, there will be hundreds/thousands of that item in the tp and it would lose value fast.
So my suggestion, contrary to the OP, make the rare skins accountbound in order to make higher droprates possible.
BUT in order to make those accountbound items any useful, make them salvageable.
(edited by Marcus Greythorne.6843)
People have missed out the one argument against mounts.
Introducing mounts will bring all the whiny WoW kiddies over to GW2….
Have you looked around here? All those entitled whiners are still here, even here in this op.
so many people are raging against mounts, yet I have heard no single good argument against them.
There are plenty and if you actually bothered to READ the posts, you would get the idea.
I will repeat some of them.
1. Not in Lore – lore breaking
2. Already have speed boosts – can buy from TP _15%) and each profession has even temporary (SB 33%).
3. Not needed because of all of the WP’s in game (an they are in lore)
4. Maps are small.
5. Would overload the game engine and slow game down.
6. WvW and PvP are not set up for them.
7. Would take an inordinate amount of development time and other things should get top priority – Game optimization, etc.
as I said: no good arguments.
1.) There are mounts in lore, see the mounted skeleton riders in GW, the mounted dwarfs in the shiverpeaks,… then this: In Edge of Destiny a herd of wild horses is seen through an asura gate when Logan, Rytlock, and Caithe flee from the Destroyer horde in the Dwarven ruins.
“Visions. Beautiful visions… a grassy plain where wild horses ran… a deep lagoon encircled by leaning palms…”
2.) mounts aren’t only wanted for speedboosts. Furthermore: why not give people an option which speedboost (mount or not) they want to choose?
3.) Again: why not being able to choose whether to use mounts OR waypoints? Also: they could just delete half of the waypoints too. New maps already have far less waypoints than the ones at release, which tells us something.
4.) You still can spend a lot of time running from one end of the world to the other, even more so if you take routes you haven’t before.
5.) No one says that mounts must be in WvW, PvE maps surely can handle players + mounts as the number of possible players is far smaller than the WvW map.
6.) As I said, they don’t have to be in WvW. You could also make them a reward for holding the Borderland Ruins instead of statistical advantages.
7.) Game optimization? Really? That’s always important and always being worked on.
I’m short on Dragonite as I have made multiple sets of gear, can someone send me some?
Oh wait, they made it account bound, and have yet to see the error of their ways!
I’d rather see those accoundbound materials being salvageable into t5/rarely t6 mats.
I think the core problem here is “too bad rng”, not rng in itself. What if each zone could give a bonus on rng/magicfind (for chests too) if you invest time to play the zone in a variety of ways. The new zone-achievements would be a way, another would be to find as many unique events on a map as possible. Over time you’d get rewarded with good luck because you invested time in exploring a zone and getting achievements for it.
something like that:
- enhanced loot chances for getting achievement xy for the specific zone
- enhanced loot chances for finding new events
- enhanced loot chances for killing new champions
- enhanced loot chances for talking to certain npcs
…
This way, for example, the dropchance of the fossil could go to up to 30% per rare chest. The more you do in a zone, the better the chance.
(a bit like a reward track for zones)
so many people are raging against mounts, yet I have heard no single good argument against them.
was this last dev-comment before the introduction of ascended armor? How many stacks of ascended mats do I need for a full set? I guess I can delete most of the stacks I’ve got (actually it’s more than (edit) 3 full bank-tabs) :-/
Edit: looked it up myself, you need 1500 Dragonite ore, Empyrial Fragment and Bloodstone dust for 1 full ascended set. This equals 6 stacks of each… I guess I have a empty bank soon
(edited by Marcus Greythorne.6843)
got mine in the 7th chest, I had no idea how bad rng is for these O__O
these are my settings:
http://i.imgur.com/GiCpq6Ll.jpg
is there a cinematic I can trigger in the game without having to replay the story mission? I’m not sure if I found that playback devices menu, I found a Realtek HD Audio-Manager which is set on Stereo.
I have the problem too… or should I say a similar problem – having “some” sound but VERY quiet. It’s like this for every cutscene, but not in other parts of the game.
I still can’t figure out that waterfall / skill point jump. Working on it…
no need for a crystal, I jumped from the small ledge on the left to the middle of the waterfall while steering a bit left. I didn’t expect to make that jump but I did, so it works.
But not everyone got Precurors, while many others did, which was rather hated. Some didn’t even get useful Exotics (I for one got 2 lvl 76 daggers on my lvl 80 Mesmer).
So you should only get rewards for doing the story on one of your characters then? Do you really think people would accept that? People are already complaining about how bad things are for people with alts and so on. Limiting the rewards in such a way would not be liked.
Fair enough, precursors are still a big rng element, I give you that. Maybe you could get one of those ambrite-fossils you need in order to craft the new exotic weapons. This way people could choose which weapon they want and rng gets left behind.
(Ambrite fossils drop rarely from the buried chests (I got one from 7 chests yesterday on day 1), so I’d say it would be a good choice to get a single one guaranteed for completing episode 2).
In this case it would probably be ok to make it repeatable for other characters since the effort to complete the whole episode comes close to buying a few lockpicks and finding the buried chests (which isn’t hard in any way).
@Rebound:
http://dulfy.net/2014/07/15/gw2-ambrite-weapon-skins-gallery/
Craftable weapons with unique skins, no gemstore involved
@Elden: Feel free to write about your experience in episode 2 when you’ve tried it, I’m eager to hear whether you had problems or not compared to episode 1. I think once you have the 2nd waypoint unlocked it “should” be quite without any jumps/crystal mechanics if I remember correctly.
Because getting a guaranteed Exotic for as little “work” required to complete the instances would not be proportional to the time it takes to get them in other ways?
And no, people hated the fact that the Karka event gave away exotics (and precursors) at such a high rate.
Let me tell you: you’re wrong. People hated the fact that the Karka event was a one time occurence and they couldn’t get the reward when they’ve missed that event. All the others participating who got the reward… I know no one who gets rewarded with exotics and says: “I hate this, give me greens and blues!!”
About the rewards for completing the story once, I fail to see how this is a problem. They just have to make sure that this is a one-time reward which can’t be farmed and which is account-wide. That’s all.
Let’s say i want to come back in 1 month to do the achievements…or let’s say in 1-2 months from now people who buy the game and want to do those achievements.
Can u even comprehand how irritating/hard/close to impossible (SPECIALLY for low pop servers, even with scaling system) it will be to gather enough ppl who actually give a kitten about that map once others are opened,
haven’t heard of megaservers, have you? This is not a problem anymore, take a look at Orr or Southsun Cove, lots of people there.
And about the 0 reward… the craftable weapons are a perfect reward, very unique skin tied to the zone-rewards and can’t be sold on the tp, another reason why you’ll see a lot of people in this map in the future.
Another question to people who haven’t unlocked episode 1: Can you play episode 2?
why is it not possible to give everyone a guaranteed exotic once for completing an episode? If the problem is named trading post, then simply make it accountbound. Why not? They did it for the ancient Karka, everyone loved it and the world still worked fine.
(I got about the same as the OP)
I’d love to see Anet telling us the numbers of how much gold Drooburt got from us
It just doesn’t make sense to me that the pale tree is the center of Tyria since it…
a.) exists only for a “short” time
b.) isn’t the only one
I still want my Nord story instance
Sorry for being offtopic and unconstructive, but everytime I see this (calling Norn: Nord) I cringe inside.
lol, now is there any creature in Tyria which hasn’t seen the Eternal Alchemy??
First of all: I love the story, story delivery and lore mentions.
What I don’t quite understand is: When we entered Omadds machine we saw the universe and how the pale tree seems to be the center of it. How can this be? The pale tree is about 250 years old and happend to be planted by a human in those days.
Does this mean that there is more to the pale tree than we know? Does the pale tree have “a mother-tree” where the seeds came from?
each dead quaggan brings bubbles closer to us… GIANT ELDER QUAGGAN killing all of us!!
I REALLY love the direction this is going. I’m really immersed in the story and couldn’t even go by any named npcs but had to talk to each and every one of them.
…and this is not only the writing, it all comes together beautifully – the animations, the artwork on loadingscreens, the music, the cutscene at the end, the mapdesign, the side-lore (Krytas heir…), the dynamic events, the reward-system which finally has something to be proud of because it can’t be bought from rich guys on the trading post, the fact that a coordinated group can achieve a reward-tier for everyone.
TL;DR: outstanding, please keep up the good work and don’t take trolls too serious
they are accountbound and I’m SO happy that they did this. Finally zone-specific weapons which have to be earned rather than just bought from tp-flippers (like myself).
I’m looking forward to find a EU-teamspeak-community which takes on the challenge to reach T5; had one for Boss Blitz and it was AWESOME and tons of fun to play with the guys and gals.
So there is no crystal jumping for any of the “mainstream”/story content in episode 2, am I right or have I missed something?
Now I’m REALLY curious if the people who had problems with the jumping parts in episode 1 have managed to get through the story-missions. (The reason why I’m asking: I found those quite difficult in comparison to the ones we had before.)
there are crystals in the new part of the zone. Hurray!!! Coins… I’m coming!
