selling

atse has a point here, as an awful lot are selling paths using exploits.
This is not only valid for Arah, but has started heavily with AC too.
Besides hurting the economy, AC is usually the first dungeon to check out and therefore leaves a nice impression on new potential dungeoneers…

In all honesty, I fully support that they are finally taking action against exploiters.
Unfortunately, there might be some misfire, but I am sure that this can be resolved.

I doubt that whining on the forums is a helpful measure though…

Differentiate between longterm and shortterm investments.

Shortterm investments have to be closely watched and you have to react fast. You can however make quite some gold in a relatively short time.
Example: The current state of rare greatswords crafting and some endgame consumables.

Longterm investments take less time but some patience. If someone outbids you by a copper – who cares? Stay in for the long run.
Example: Flipping of LS/event-specific items, e.g. wintersday gifts.

Furthermore, it is good to invest excess gold in items that are regularly needed.
As you don’t get interest on your gold, but the price for items raises somewhat linear to the amount of gold floating around, this is a rather good inflation protection.
Example: Crafting materials offer a stable value, e.g. orichalcum ore, omnomberries etc.

Overregulating silk market supplies

in Crafting

Posted by: Matisse.9356

Matisse.9356

They will not reduce the silk requirement for ascended armor, as this would trigger a major kittenstorm. They might increase the droprate or provide some exchange method (leather <> silk).

Besides that, they did introduce the gear treadmill as they consider this a long-term goal that keeps players active. Sadly, they might very well be right.

Quite frankly, I don’t really care for ascended gear stats, as (for me) the stat difference ain’t worth the hassle and I don’t like the skins either.

The only thing where it bugs the crap out of me is that it is required to do high level fractals and therefore limits access to gaming content rather massively, especially if you want to do fractals with different characters/classes. This really bothers me.

If people guest they have the same rights as everybody else on the server.
That is how it is and that is how it should be.
And I do find it rather amusing that you want Anet to take initiative in what is clearly a player-related issue.

Dragonite Ore

Matisse.9356

They should simply allow Dragonite ore to be sold on TP, that will fix all the problems.

And by ‘fix’ you mean reintroduce ‘gold farming and flipping as the best pathways to all possible rewards’.

Its not an accident that you actually have to get out into the world and hit something to get these materials.

Whilst I strongly think that it is nice to have rewards that can’t just be bought on the TP, I do agree that making dragonite tradeable would at least give us options to acquiring them, therefore selecting our preferred way to play the game.

Anet’s point of view to “introduce” people to different gaming experiences by tying certain rewards to specific content could very much be seen as forcing players to do specific content.
Example: If I want to do high-level fractals and might even want to do them with different characters/classes, I will need ascended equipment. Therefore I need dragonite. Therefore I have to do world bosses to be able to enjoy the content I want.

This again goes against their self-proclaimed principle of “play how you want”.

Instead of making dragonite etc tradeable, they could of course introduce an exchange vendor. And whilst they are at it, they could also tackle the issue with all the useless ascended rings that do nothing but use up bank space…

Orichalcum Ore.

Matisse.9356

The next step to get my armorsmithing from 402 to 500 requires a lot of it, unfortunately, it’s EXTREMELY expensive to buy all the materials I’d need for it, so I’m forced to resort to farming them. Are there well known locations of orichalcum, or are there dungeons/bosses that are known for dropping them?

I’m level 80 btw, so I can go anywhere.

To answer your original question: The best way is to farm the level 80 zones. To ensure an efficient farming route, I highly recommend using http://gw2nodes.com/.
You can run the routes on 3 servers (home + 2 guests) with each of your character.
I recommend that you search servers with efficient (fast) routes before you guest.
Furthermore, I would also include t6 wood and food (all highlighted in the website above).

Got kicked from 4th fractal level 50

There’s no evidence that Anet cares about this issue, so:

  • Don’t pug in a group with more than 1 member from the same guild.
  • Enter the instance first so that if you’re kicked the instance is wiped for everyone.

That – although grouping might get slightly difficult if everybody insists on opening the instance.
In regards to teaming up with a guild: If something goes wrong, you will be blamed. Simply because you are the filler. It really doesn’t matter if you screwed up or not.

If you pug a lot, you will get a feeling when it is a group you don’t want to be a part of.
This goes for the group setup as well as the attitude.
One indicator I found rather useful when (partly) grouping with another guild is to see if they are capable of a simple “hello” and basic strategy communication. As mundane as it sounds, this really helps to sort out bad apples.

Also, if people put up a lfg that gently hints towards an addiction to capital letters and exclamation marks, you might want to reconsider joining.

Just to some more runs than necessary in tier 0 and avoid speedrun groups and you’ll be fine. You’ll probably get some heat if you are a beginner, but that is actually mostly from other beginners poorly trying to cover their inexperience. Good players explain, bad players kitten.

Thieves soloing AC p1 and selling "teach"

Don’t waste your time, let them be, if ANet fix it, they will move to something else, it will never stop.

I wholeheartedly have to disagree with this. Saying this is like following the saying that “the wiser head gives in” which in turn means nothing but a dominance of fools.

Matisse.9356

It is an exploit, using Shortbow. They use it to teleport where they shouldn’t be able to go and skip the whole dungeon. Some kinda of jumping puzzle. Use it at your own risk.

However I remember seeing a post about a Dev saying the “jumping puzzle” were not exploit, but I wouldn’t trust that.

Well there was (is?) a partially completed jumping puzzle after you finish the boss.
For the current thief skips – as they are practised/tought – I highly doubt that any dev would claim that this was working as intended.
If it was jumping puzzle, it would (theoretically) be doable for every class and if this is not seen as exploiting, then everything from the snowflake incident to the linen farm can’t be considered exploiting from my point of view.

My advise to OP is to stay away from this, unless you want to risk a righteous strike of the banhammer.

This and similar skips for Arah are one of the main reasons why dungeon sellers are frown upon (another reason is that little bit of envy, because honest soloing is actually quite skill-based ).

PUGs and LFG

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Matisse.9356

Matisse.9356

In regards to AP requirements:
AP does NOT equal dungeon experience. Everybody that actually IS experienced knows this. It is nonetheless a basic indicator if your fellow player has some experience in the game.

The basic guideline I follow for explanations:
AP < 1k = explain the mechanics unasked
1k < AP < 2k = ask if they want explanations
> 2k = explain if I feel that that (someone in) the group would benefit

Always keep in mind that you can learn from anyone, independent from AP. Quite a few high-AP players like to forget that rule, but I happily remind them.

In regards to LFG tool usage (and I think there has been a post somewhere on this forums in more detail about this):
- Px: Don’t care about level or experience.
- Px, 80: Level 80, don’t care about experience.
- Px, 80, exp: Level 80, know the core dungeon mechanics.
- Px, 80, speedrun: Level 80, know the dungeon in detail, proper equipment (e.g. PVT might improve your survivability, but at the expense of your teammembers).

Note: If I look for a specific class, I will add this in description.

All this doesn’t save you from bad apples, but that’s the risk you take in pugging.
And if I’m in a group with people that obviously lack manners (uncontrolled swearing etc.) or are unwilling to at least listen to suggestions, I leave.

It has been this way since day 1, so if you want detailed explanations, just look up the countless threads on this topic.

What the hell was done to Arah P2?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Matisse.9356

Matisse.9356

Apparently there was some attempt to stop path selling, but it’s completely botched (which I guess isn’t surprising).

There’s no waypoint after the spider cave, and the electric field kills anyone trying to cross it (even Guardians with RF and Shelter have trouble making it). Even if you try to do it the normal way, the abominations can now charge you through the defense golem’s shield bubble, making it impossible to get through by the normal way.

Not to sound rude, but impossible for you <> impossible for everyone.
Actually, we just skipped to abomination. Doable. More difficult than before though.
…and this will certainly not stop selling P2.

Selling dungeon paths ... Your thoughts!

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Matisse.9356

Matisse.9356

But I don’t get it. The best gold reward from a dungeon is 3g, the sellers charge for like 20g per path, I’m sorry I just don’t see how that’s profitable. It’s on the brink of kittenly stupid. Correct me if I’m wrong.

You are most likely referring to Arah path 4.
Buying this path is not about token, people do it to get the dungeon master title.
Some people apparently feel like they have achieved something if they buy the title.
Good for the sellers, at least they can get something out of it.
Arah too lives from its reputation to a certain degree – it is not as difficult, as people make it sound.

Can anyone really see through the clutter?

What is does is start to reduce the amount of particles and details on effects once you have a certain # of them on screen. This system relies on us manually setting up a value for how noisy any given effect is so if turning it on does nothing in certain areas, we could simply not have set those effects up correctly. A cursory look at the data seems like they are setup, but there might be some caveats in how the Effect LOD system works that keeps it from turning on for those instances because it is an “important” boss. I’ll dig a bit deeper when I can.
