Don’t want to throw out giant paragraphs, but the gold reward from dungeons seem awfully good. Maybe you guys at ANet already know this. But as a player I can say its easy to pass up other stuff just to make sure the daily “easy” dungeons get done.
I’m not an economist, but I’m pretty sure inflation is a thing. Thousands of gold entering into the world each day probably isn’t helping it retain much value. This makes the gap between dungeon rewards and everything else even seem much bigger, too.
Catacombs in particular seems like it pays way too much for how quick-n-easy it is these days. Between ferocity scaling down so favorably, FGS-rush/frostbow spam, the two mid-bosses being cheeseable (corner stack, no AOEs), and the end bosses melting, even a basic pug can clear all three paths pretty quick. – Maybe drop it to 50s, or fix the bosses. This might drive off the dedicated dungeoneers , but it might become a bit more low-level friendly as a result.
Sorrow’s is another standout. Path two and three are about right. But path 1 is silly. Actually, a good chunk of the late night LFGs are now people skipping Tazza, and farming bags over and over. For the most part is comes down to the end boss being fairly easy (or skippable), and there being no need to fight the trash mobs along the route. Not quite as easy as AC or COF, but the bag thing should probably be looked into.
Anyway. Overall the rewards seem out of proportion given the challenge/length to other stuff in the game. Maybe the internal data shows otherwise, but that’s my take.
(Might be nice to have an Emyreal sink or two. Those are piling up a a wee bit, too.)
They tend to give us free content every few weeks. How is that focusing on the gem store?
The gem store exists. It is going to have some skins & mini pets you cannot get anywhere else. This is part of what allows them to give us all this other stuff for free, and you want to complain about that?
I always hated people repeating the same thing over in chat. And a commander tag does not make you special. (Listen to me, I’m a commander, dawg.) – Saying stuff once every now and then won’t get you suppressed. If you are, then maybe its time to reevaluate and adapt?
Well. Home instance?
If you care this much about the people you play with, then why in the hell are you pugging in the first place? There are guilds designed for just such a thing. Join those. Profit!
So about that whole "Queensdale didn’t make people stupid!’ thing. . .
I appreciated the message. I don’t constantly watch the gemstore, so a heads up was nice.
You are taking on like they repeatedly sent out a "Buy gems now, pls!!!’ spam. Thats silly. When it gets to that point, sure complain. But acting like this simple message spoiled your evening makes you look goofy.
I’ve had it in other games and it was a mixed bag. And it only takes one bad experience to turn a person off, and next thing you know everyone is always mute/deaf. Overall, its just easier to be in a guild with mumble. More support for Mumble would be nice though.
There is this universal item you get everywhere, and a little thing called inflation. So this melodramatic claim is pretty moot even if we lived in a universe where it was relevant.
You must be kidding…
After they introduced the grindiest grinds ever in a western AAA MMO (noone likes to grind they said), vertical progression (even casuals should have BiS they said), most of the events are watered down to press 1, 1 and 1 again (boring they said), you still think they would give a kitten about what they said in the past?
That is a lot of faith you got there.
Perhaps you should gain some experience/knowledge by playing other MMO’s than just this one. You would see that all of them have a grind and GW2’s pales in comparison to some of them.
Asheron’s Call 2
Anarchy Online
Horizons
WoW
LotRO
DCU
Aion
STO
Defiance
AoC
.
.
.Just to name some of the more well known ones I played to max level (besides Anarchy online). Most of them AAA at start, and the only one that comes even close to the ascended grind is Aion at release.
For everyone on the same power level at eighty and advertised as non grindy game, just this combination is a sarcastic statement since ascended items were introduced.
I don’t know why people would call it a misinterpration of the manifesto though, as ANet themselves have stated that they stopped following it…
Played some of these too, and you are full of it. Ascended, for one thing, isn’t even required. But try doing a T10 WoW raid in T2 armor and see how well it goes. We’ll wait. But if you actually played these games then you know what you’re spewing and doing it anyway. Can’t really reason when its pouting.
I do not understand why in the hell you would continue to play this game if you really feel the developers are this evil. I suspect most just want to whine but it paints a funny picture.
“This game is horrible! I’m only going to play 6 hours a day instead of 7!”
All for it, too. Anything that makes Living Story & Open world stuff less zergy.
I can’t imagine playing GW2 just for the loot and profit margins. There are a lot of other games better suited for that.
With a Birthday boost you can’t beat EotM. Follow the zerg, tag all the things.
Nothing is stopping you from going to Queensdale on a level 80. That’s silly. This was brought about because some people just want to press-1 for easy loot in a starter zone for hours on end. Now its time to put on the big boy pants, and maybe let the actual new players discover something more than ‘boar-oak-troll-bandit, or /report’
You can beat yourself to death with a hammer. This does not mean you should, or that the hammer manufacturer intended for you to do this. Free will can be tricky.
Congrats! That’s crazy.
But I’m quite wroth that its the ghastly shield that made it all possible. Not to mention RNG. I guess some players are just better than others, huh ANet.
There are things called friends, guilds, and astonishingly – the LFG tool. Which allows you to form your own group with your own style defined right there in the lfg. And you know what the best part is? It works.
A friend and I did every single dungeon path in the game ‘legit’ using the lfg tool. We can safely say we killed every mob in our path. Got lost several times over. Took a few hours to explore each Arah path and so on. We put this in our LFG, and we attracted like minded people.
But the average pug is doing it in a hurry because they want the gold reward. This is the sort of group they’re after. If you’re not after that, then joining them is a pretty bad idea. These are the groups you join when you want to snag your daily reward as quickly as possible, so you can then go play the fun stuff.
Blaming these guys, or the developers for not making your style the defacto one is a little selfish when you have the means to setup your own group to suit yourself.
I don’t want any of these. A lot of them are things that are absolutely hated in other games.
So, no.
Usually the people who put such invested requirements in their lfgs are pretty mediocre themselves. At least that has been my experience. I am a little wary of people under 1000 AP or so, but I do not kick them. I just readjust my expectations for the run a little bit.
There really isn’t anyway to measure a player. Legendaries are common as dirt. Glory/rank is farmed. WXP is farmed. The only thing I’d be impressed by is maybe Yak Slapper. If nothing else, you know that dude is going to be patient.
I am enjoying leveling up a warrior under the new system. It is a challenge, and one that benefits from leveling at a natural speed compared to EotM zerging or dungeon swapping. You’re rewarded for getting out into the world and doing stuff. I like that.
But I’m not entirely sure its the best setup for a completely new player. Some of the things are required are pretty drastic, and I could see them being overwhelming to inexperienced players.
I expect things will be tweaked a bit. Maybe with the lower tier traits being put in the lower level zones, and scaling the challenge with the character/player’s experience.
How dare ANet slow down our free content. Those greedy jerks. If they weren’t holding this gun to my head, then by golly I’d go play <NextHypedMMO> right now and never not buy gems ever again. Harrumph.
An extractor cost about $3.75. If its as big a problem for you as you’re taking on, that seems an easy enough solution.
But you don’t seem to want to pay that, nor convert gold for it, or even just buy more upgrades. Instead you want ANet to make it even cheaper for you. Dunno, seems a little selfish to me.
I don’t hate mounts, I just hate stupid, nonsensical ideas that boil down to "it was cool in this other game!’
There is a legendary in every pug I join, usually the greatswords or the staff. The drop rate must be pretty decent.
if its driving you the point you’re bringing in phrases like “Corporate Masters!” and “greed” its probably time for a break. That’s some real angst, and a sword with a few extra bits of glittery pixels probably isn’t going to make you feel any better.
Because duel spam isn’t annoying in other games at all, and people totally won’t use it as some childish attempt at peening.
A consequence of playing a MMO is also not having the game tailored to suit whatever wild fantasy you have because you cannot be bothered to open a menu, and go to different area.
Actually, seems like they can’t shut up.
You aren’t wanting answers—plenty of those with all the patch press—but instead want a red name to acknowledge whatever the latest life-shattering grievance is in your video game. That isn’t feedback so much as pouting. I cannot imagine why they aren’t breaking down the gates to listen to that.
The ‘forum mindset’ is a terrible way to judge anything since most of the answers will be about pushing whatever the agenda is today. Best to experience stuff for yourself.
Warrior is more straight forward, and probably the easiest class to get the most dps out of. This makes them pretty good for pug dungeons as you’ll literally get a GS, press 2 near a boss, and do 14-22k dmg. If you’re going to dungeon pug, its honestly easier to have an 80-zerk warrior to swap to. Hammer warriors are pretty good in wvw, and blowing up hotjoin spvp right now.
Necro is more involved. Bit more crazy stuff you can do. Minions aren’t anywhere near as good as GW1. Conditions are lackluster in PvE, but amazing in WvW/sPvP right now. Necro, even zerk’ed, generally isn’t going to as well received as a warrior in a pug, but most of the time nobody will care so long as you don’t die much.
PvE population is loaded now with the mega server system. WvW population varies. If you want giant battles around the clock, pick a gold league, silver for zerg/roam, bronze for ???.
I’d roll necro, play the game, see if you enjoy it. Then if so, level up a warrior to earn gold/pug with later.
Then you have bigger issues than a tab cap.
I don’t think you’re really using 360 + 400ish inventory slots on equipment.
I just finished the dredge fractal, so this is going to sound angry. And that is the point, part of your content can and often does drive people into full on raaaaaage. This is not good by any conceivable standards, and for the life of me I cannot understand why you guys at ANet insist on keeping it around in its current form.
The dredge fractal is not hard. It is not challenging. It is long. It is tedious. It does punish pugs/new players. The random nature of the fractals system also makes it bloody aggravating that its always looming over the horizon.
I like fractals. They’re some most interesting situations in the game. But the dredge fractal keeps people away. It is reason I have to pug it up if i want to do anything beyond 11-19. Every so often, I can talk my friends into doing a ‘quick’ baby fractals run but we always end up rolling dredge—-which not only doubles the length of the run—but also sours everyone on Fractals.
I want to see the dredge fractal removed entirely. Again, I’m still in post-dredge-rage. But I don’t see any merit or unique ideas it brings to the table. If you really want to keep the final boss somewhere and tack it on else where. Just do something
The RNG of the rewards also really sting. I’ve done 200+ fractals. I have so many rings that I cannot do anything with. Relics are also a dead end after you snag your backpieces. Would it really be so bad if we could trade in relics/rings towards weapons skins?
I can tell you it really blows when RNG gives a skin to the guy doing his first 11+ run or the guy who spent the entire boss fight dead cause his AR was low. Not because another player got one, no because I’m left no closer to obtaining one and my only choice is to try again.
It just really isn’t worth the bother. Any ‘progression’ comes down to RNG luck, and the threat of rolling dredge overshadows the potential fun.
For what it is worth. I love the change. My armor looks even more amazing now.
And here I thought BP whined a lot in these threads.
FA – some of your roamers are pretty leet. /tip hat.
It was fun screwing around a bit ago at Shiverpeak’s BL North camp with the troll-siege. We were done for the day, and decided to toss out all our siege for the sheer absurdity of it.
