But guess what? Then they just melt the gate by force.
pretty much every tower i had sieged up and defended was lost to attackers that did not use (or lost their) offensive siege.
Taking down fortified wall with 2 trebs takes more time than PvD reinforced gate with 30 man group.
This. so much. And that is just wrong.
Taking down the wall should be slow. but PvD should be impossible.

All i’m advocating is PvD has to go. If the defenders did all the effort to siege up a tower and put supply traps and whatnot, the attackers should be forced to use tactics as well to be able to take the tower.
Examples:
Defenders: 5 AC and Defensive Treb
Attackers: 60 man blob with no supps left after they lost their rams
= Defenders deserve to win
Defenders: 5 AC and Defensive Treb
Attackers: Notice the siege and decide to find high-ground and build a treb to clear siege, after which they can ram freely
= Attackers deserve to win
If you don’t actually read posts and are not capable of giving reasonable feedback, you shouldn’t be posting on forums. I’m doing my best to convince other players of my idea and to make it clear to Anet that PvD really has to go.

Small groups will still be powerless against blobs.
The only thing that makes em powerless IS PvD !!! That is the whole point of this Post. Sure a blob can build a lot of trebs, but a decent defender with treb skills will be able to
- Shoot a cow at the blob before they even arrive at the building spot
- Shoot down all trebs, as he will be able to take the first shot (and if you consider yourself an experienced trebber, the first hit decides the outcome of the Treb-fight)
Blobs have no tactics in general, as they usually build all trebs within the radius of my shot.
My personal best:
Me: 1 treb on supply hut Bay
Enemy: 3 trebs, 2 catas
Who won? Me! oh wait, gate down, PvD melted, gg
Did i lose bay? yes. How? PvD !!!!
Anet, if you read this post, please know that there are so many frustrated defenders, so please stop promoting the mindless karma train and remove PvD. Looking forward to seeing the patch notes: Gates are now invulnerable from player damage

Blobs can melt a gate? You can melt a blob with superior ACs focused fire.
Please read my follow up posts in this thread before posting. It’s nearly impossible to place a Superior AC somewhere without it getting AoE’d. And behind the gate is useless for range dps PvD.
As i said earlier. Instead of feeling safe inside your tower or on your walls, it feels more like playing a bullet hell game when defending.
PvD isnt a problem. Yeah i said it. Get a few friends to man 5 sup ACs and fire at the same spot. No one will PvD through 5 sup ACs.
Real Problem shows it head now. blobs move faster than your 5 man, they will leave that tower and pvd another. You go to man AC to stop it, gl getting in against 30+ ppl.
So, drop the pvd needs to stop. You shouldn’t be rewarded for gathering up 50+ ppl to just run over everything. That is the real problem. Zergs are rewarded more, safer to travel, faster, easier to take towers etc.
Clearly you didn’t read my second post. Every AC on the wall is nuked in seconds, AC behinds the gate? Lol , clearly you have never seen the blob just range DPS a gate from 1200 range like they don’t give a kitten.

You just confirmed that PvD shouldn’t be able, as 50+ people smashing on a gate get rewarded too much WXP for autoattacking a gate..
I’m happy to see some feedback on this post, and i’m happy some mod removed the post of people just claiming i’m a noob and have to learn to defend. If you don’t have a valid argument to make, please don’t post. I do my best to only post on the forums when i believe my change really needs to happen.
The only somewhat valid counter-argument i read so far is “People will get bored just standing around not doing anything if they aren’t on siege”. Everyone else seems to be just scared their karma train will get nerfed. As a remark on this feedback: i personally think hitting a gate is equally boring as just standing next to it.
So let me clarify some of the things i read
STATEMENT: Defending something is easy with just a 5 man team WRONG. Defending SHOULD be easy with a 5 man team. I’m about to hit 50.000 WvW kills (so you can’t call me a noob at least). The problem with defending are the following:
- Every bit of siege built on walls is gone in 3 seconds if a blob starts AoE’ing the walls. Even mortars, cannons and oil go down way to fast. Kinda unfair you spend so much time upgrading and 4 meteor showers just kill a mortar…
- Ac / Treb behind the gate are gone in 20seconds, as the blob just has to build 1 counter AC just in front of the gate, which the defenders won’t be able to kill. Why? Because of bad game design, walls are a bullet hell for defenders instead of giving a tactical advantage. (IMO Anet should implement it so that AoE can’t hit the upper part of the wall, but that’s a different discussion). It is even so bad, that as an attacker, the safest place to stand is right in front of a wall, because the mortars/remaining trebs won’t be able to hit you (due to their arcing shot) (also, Anet, Mortar mastery skill 5, great idea, but you have no line of sight to use it 80% of the time! rendering it useless)
- Even if you manage to take down their siege before you lose yours, they just PvD the door down…
This is the whole idea why i made this post: Defenders should be at a slight advantage. What do i mean? if I, as a defender, bother to build defensive siege, it should force the attackers to also build siege. resulting in the following: Whoever loses their siege will decide the outcome of the battle Lost your rams? sorry, you are going to have to resupply! Lost your defensive siege? Sorry, you better call in the main zerg for backup!
P.S. I use superior siege only as defending, so don’t use that as argument either.
So yes, PvD has to go! Why bother dropping a supply trap? Blobs just go ’trololo fancy tornado! Smash gate in.
In addition to this: please make all gates fully sealed! This will stop the AC’s shooting inside the tower through the gap, and also prevents the enemy from seeing how many enemies are inside. as a defender you should be able to ambush!
So to conclude
Dear Anet, Some time ago you made a post that you want WvW to be less about who has the biggest numbers, and allow smaller teams with better tactics to defend against mindless zergs. Removing PvD is a must if you want to achieve this!
Not only is defending not nearly as rewarding as attacking, it is very frustrating to lose a very heavily fortified tower to some mindless blob!

Because countering the upgrade is supereasy (as i said, killing dolyaks is too easy), so upgrading a keep is a tremendous task, while tagging a keep requires almost no effort. 1 shot at a gate and you block the whole other server’s movement? You can’t damage walls without siege, so neither should you be able to damage gates without siege

ArenaNet, i love you guys for making this awesome game.
However, can you please explain me how such a big group of smart developers never realized that it makes absolutely no sense that players can damage a gate without bothering to build a ram (or other siege). If defenders bothered to siege up a tower, they should be able to hold it if they outsmarted the attackers and killed their rams and/or cata/treb.
Not only is defending freaking impossible (Blobs just melt gates). It is simply completely unacceptable that the hard work of a dedicated group of people to escort dolyaks to a keep to finally have a WP can all be undone by a single troll who’s sole purpose in WvW is to tag the enemy keep. Seriously, our EB waypoint has been contested the whole week as some dude had nothing better to do than tag it all day long.
PS revise dolyaks as well, escorting them is useless since a thief can just stealth up to them and 3 hit them before you can even kill him. Increase Dolyak’s health and toughness and give them perma regeneration. Even when escorting with 3 people it is still impossible to keep a dolyak alive.
TL;DR: Stop the mindless karma train, promote tactical gameplay by getting rid of PvD

Currently retaliation scales with the power of the one that applies the boon.
I think retaliation should be a boon that is a counter to zerker/burst builds.
The buff should be a warning “If you attack me now, you are going to have a bad time”
So my suggestion:
Retaliation
Reflects 25% of damage received back to its source.
This way:
Receiving low damage hits does less retaliation damage back (e.g. get hit for 1k, deal 250 damage back [currently i do 361 damage on all hits])
Receiving a high burst punishes the nukers for not paying attention and just spamming their burst (e.g. getting hit by 5k heartseaker deals 1250 damage back)
Note that the 25% can be lowered in sPvP or WvW as it might become OP on bigger scale

I’m sorry to be ‘that’ guy. But please train a bit harder before asking for a nerf. I’m happy to see there is some actual boss fights that require people to pay attention instead of mindlessly nuking a boss.
Not trying to show off, but i basically solo’d this dude twice now. I even had time to rezz people (during his super-long charge phase i always rezzed someone for 10%). I even did it on lvl 34 just now, and solo’d him down from 70% HP left.
How to do:
- don’t look at your skills, who care about dps? staying alive is key
- ALWAYS look at him, no matter what.
- Jump over the waves by running towards him
- WIN
He is pretty predictable, he only has like 3 skills he has
- Smash ground for multiple waves
- shadowstep towards you (just dodge away)
- Super charge ground-slam (just run away, or just jump the wave)
I play as tanky warrior. i lost my entire party cause most people just zerk and die. I could survive 1 mistake, only if i had full health (could survive 2 “smaller” waves).
It’s the same as Tequatl: Just JUMP/DODGE THE WAVES. yet 50% of people fail to do so.

So yea, was playing sPvP while waiting in queue for WvW.
The sPvP server used insta-respawn on defeated.
2 seconds before being stomped, the dialog box shows that i can join WvW.
I insta-respawn automatically, can no longer press Join WvW ……
All that time in queue for nothing.
I hope it’s something substantial I know the winners worked hard to come out on top.

I really hope the rewards ain’t that big. Every player that obtained the season key should get a somewhat similar reward, regardless of the end rank of the server.
Anet should realize WvW is still a mess (aka the server with biggest blob and that goes to bed the latest wins). Tactical defending is useless, i’ve seen blobs range-dps a reinforced door down… (since AC get AoE’d so easily on walls, we only had those behind the gate left…. so they just ranged the gate).
So yea, Season score has nothing to do with skills, so people shouldn’t be awarded for blobbing the best

Please sort it out OTA guild, or do you promote hacking? You should be able to recognize who it is (not many people use the ugly tentacle backpack)

Dear Anet,
A while ago you removed the AC combo with warriors and Leg specialist.
I wonder how it is possible that you make such a change, and forget all the other combo’s.
- Why does a necro using fear on a ram with the ‘fear deals damage’ trait still do damage?
- Why do high condition builds can get insane damage from using the bleed on AC, while the number 1 attack doesn’t scale with power?
Siege should have fixed damage regardless what class/build. And the condition damage should be buffed in general. A mortar’s burn should burn for at least 900 burn damage. AC bleed should tick for at least 100 a stack. Same for Trebuchet poison…
P.S. Revise the Leg specialist implementation. When using Hammer Shock it should correctly immobilize all targets hit by it, instead of just 1
P.P.S Also reduce the cooldown on Mortar mastery 5 skill ‘Concussion Barrage’… i mean 20 seconds? By the time you get a second shot off your mortar is already Meteor showered to death…

You are an obvious troll,but let me still make some things clear:
How come you couldn’t take our border then in primetime? Yesterday, all i saw was INC guild and some other guild flee everytime we want to fight em. You all tried so hard to take our bay, yet you couldn’t. All GH did was kite us around until their full server was grouped up at 1 location, and then tried to fight us. Still not succeeding to kill us.
I’m not saying running is a bad decision, i just use it as an example to go easy on the remarks your server (or UW, whatever you are) makes. After all, AoA is a War Machine that you should fear.
AoA and RiOT defended our Home Border last night during primetime from any assault!
We don’t have THAT many night forces, The Shiverpeaks are just starting to work as a solid team, with cross-border communication improving every day! We just call in the other guilds when you decide to launch a combined assault on our keeps (like Saturday night).
Special thanks to Punk and Kale & RiOT for the fast response when we call for their aid!
(I love the other FSP Guilds too, i simply haven’t personally asked you for assistance yet)

Since the last patch, I noticed that some weird things are happening in WvW atm.
On rare occasions, i see people (including) myself, become defeated instantly. Sometimes without even being in combat.
No, i’m not some noob that doesn’t know what vengeance on a warrior is etc.
Seriously, i was Scouting on Hills in our border – not even in combat with anything – and all of a sudden i’m just defeated ….
Just now it happened again, fighting with a striketeam in EB and all of a sudden I just drop dead defeated. While running around with a zerg i’ve seen other people drop defeated too…
Anyone else experiencing/witnessing this?
AS the million posts already indicated that the stats bonus just makes the bigger and stronger server even stronger, i suggest a simply solution:
Having Bloodlust makes every Dolyak on that border immune to damage and have perma-swiftness. This way, it doesn’t give an unfair advantage to players.
However, it is still a very useful buff to have if you want to upgrade stuff on the map.
Whenever a server controls less than 3/5 of the ruins, they should immediately lose the buff. Now zergs still have 2 minutes to neutralize one.
I mean, they have +150 stats, and we still should be able to hold 3 points for 2 minutes to make em lose 1 buff?
Losing control and having less than 3 points = immediately buff loss, implement it!
This way you force the winning server to actually man the 3 points with more forces!

Exactly, After spending all the gold/supply on upgrading your tower, you still feel like standing on your own walls is the same as playing a Bullet hell game (with DIFFICULTY LEVEL: ASIAN) instead of actually feeling safer with the upgraded tower. Cannons and mortars? Blob takes them down in 3 seconds…
While i encourage you all to discuss my ideas, it would be nice if you would actually carefully read all my ideas and put some thought into them before raging about them.

I never said that. i’m saying Ac’s should have LESS power because they shouldn’t be able to actually shoot siege down. All i’m saying is that it would be nice if a properly defended tower would actually be HARD to capture for a blob. Right now, 1 meteor shower takes down about 30-40% of an AC’S health. Combined with the Huge AoE, AC’s are too easy to counter.
- rams will be countered by ACs
- golems will be countered by cannons, mortars, trebs
- catapults will be countered by trebs, catapults and and ballistas
If you see too many AC’s you should first build a ballista to shoot em down (given they also add the arc-based AoE attack on ballistas). I’m a WvW commander, and i bought 200 ballistas 3 months ago. Currently, i still have 194 left, which should be an indication on how useless ballistas currently are.
If you can’t build ballistas, then you will have to go build something else to counter theirs. I mean com’n on guys, do you really think that it is perfectly fine that the 30 minute siege-building of the defenders to prepare for a blob inc should just be laughed at while you roll over them and ignore all defensive capabilities of the tower? “All hit 1 on the gate…aaaaaaaaannnnnd we are in, GG”
People seem to confuse WvW with GvG, WvW was not designed to be player vs player only. It was designed to bring battles on an epic scale to GW2.
As a reference: Did you see any uruk-hai / orcs swinging their swords at the gate during the Battle of Helms Deep and taking it down in a matter of seconds? No, they had to use a ram. They even had to bring a ladder & blow a hole in the wall to be able to actually fight the defenders.
Defenders should ALWAYS have the advantage.

Hello fellow player and (hopefully) ArenaNet developer.
I’ve been playing WvW for a long time, and i have noticed that there are some things wrong with it that can be easily fixed (i’m talking < 5 minutes programming work) that would have a MASSIVE impact on WvW in terms of (i) Fun and (ii) balance (server-wise). Some of these ideas are probably already mentioned somewhere in a post. But i would like to list some ideas. You can see it as a player-made patch list for WvW!
By implementing the above tweaks, WvW becomes more how i believe Anet themselves intended it to be! An epic battle with proper siege battles, where the most clever siege placer wins! IMO, 10 persons should be able to withstand ANY direct assualt given a properly sieged tower (enough AC’s to prevent ramming, few ballista’s vs cata’s and 1 trebuchet to counter trebuchet assualt) Attackers would thus be forced to (i) find a high ground so they can out-range the defensive trebuchet or (ii) coordinate the building of multiple trebs, placed in opposite directions, so the counter trebuchet can only shoot 1 down and the attackers would win. This would really get rid of the mindless ‘who has the biggest blob’ mentality.

Good to see that FSP woke up. Thanks to everybody that actually fought us tonight, particularly to AOA. for the intense and fun fights over bridge and middle island.
Also nice to see that you enjoy defending your eb towers. I don’t know why not more people share your passion for siege weapons and repairing. Keep it up!
Had the best time in WvW i had in a long time in some epic fights near hills in our home border. 3 GH guilds fighting us, and remarkable we managed to survive (no sarcasm, was actually surprised how well we managed to kill them all. AoA was on a roll it seems). Then FURY showed up and – combined with the other guilds you already had – it became a bit too much too handle!
Thanks for fighting near the bridge in hills and walking around in my trebuchet’s line of fire, you made me one rich man ;-)

Here is a crazy idea:
How about AG and FSP actually try to reduce their inter-fights to the minimum and actually fight the server that is winning?
Let’s play a 3-way fight as it is supposed to be played ;-)
Pretty simple to implement, yet a great improvement to Guildwars 2 IMO:
Instead of a blue triangle, make the commander icon a small shield with the commander’s guild emblem on it.
This way:
1. Commanders are still visible on the map (no functionality/current benefit is lost)
2. Facilitates multiple commanders commanding on the same map (clear difference, unless of the same guild)
3. Helps to get WvW guilds ‘known’.
4. Profit
As a commander myself, i like to know the location of other guilds on the map (to prevent we both run to the same supply camp, for example). There are situations where we have many commanders in the same map, but i always have to mouse over them to find out what guild is where.
The only reason i bought this was so i could blow the horn in WvW when a tower was under attack or something… So either fix the horn tooltip and refund those who bought it, or just fix it so they can hear it in Wvw
Additionally, it would be nice to be able to use the horn while moving

Canach’s Liar was accessible before the actual patch became live, everyone (inclucing me) who finished the story dungeon pre-patch got no reward for it.
1. I entered dungeon
2. Killed Canach
3. Pressed ‘Leave Instance’ —> game ‘crashes’ and patches
4. Re-do instance, still no reward

Can you please add the option to change your guild name or guild tag?
If needed, add it as item in the BLTC, just provide us with SOME way to change it.
The reason is as follows:
-> Guild tags are not unique
-> Some other guild may copy your guild tag
-> That guild can recruit a kittenload of people, making it better known than the original
-> That copy-cat guild can have a bad reputation, damaging your guild
I’m having similar problems as listed above, some other guild copied our tag and is almost 20x as big, resulting in me getting random whispers or complaints from people confusing me with that big guild.
(as no one reads the name, they just look at the tag)

Anet, don’t get me wrong. I love you and your game. But somehow you seem to keep making these mistakes regarding info in the UI. Don’t you think it is obvious that if players spent points in something, they at least want to know exactly what it does?

Does spending 5 points in guard killing grant 5%, or + 15%? (1 + 2 + 3 4 + 5%)?
Same with supplies, is it +15 total or +5?
I think the tooltip could be a little better (e.g. how much range do you gain from ballista)

The title says it all. I’m one of the lucky guys who gets many ascended rings (i have 11 atm). I only need 2, However:
- I can’t trade them
- I can’t salvage them
- I can’t MF them
Normal rings are salvageable, so i think ascended ones should too (and drop at least 1 ecto). Even better, make them return a Pristine fractal relic. Nothing worse then having the best items in gave and only being able to sell them for 4s.
My bank space is just slowly filling because i hope that one day you’ll change this.
Yes, this is also starting to become frustrating for me.
I thought Anet had some people assigned to each class in particular (like a ‘warrior responsible’ ). How hard could it be for that person(s) to change endure pain from 4 seconds to 5 seconds (or change the tooltip from 5 → 4). I mean, that is like changing a number…. yet they don’t even bother to do that?
I don’t want to set a too negative tone, but com’n. The game has been released for a while now. I can understand some serious bugs that relate to game engine stuff (takes longer to fix), but setting the duration right to match tooltips?
and Fast Hands ! I can’t count the times i died due to fast hands not working (when i really needed my shield block)

@zerk: I upgraded soon after release because of the 32bit-system bug. That is over 2 months that i have been playing fine with 2Gb RAM on a 64-bit system. Your argument makes no sense.

I appreciate the help Kalec, but as a computer science student i don’t need lesson’s in 64 bit vs 32 bit :-)
In fact, Anet admitted that they have a serious bug when playing GW2 on 32bit systems, causing frequent crashes. Installing the 64bit version solved this bug , even though i have only 2GB ram.
I was planning on buying a new system soon, would just be nice if i could still play until i have it.

What good will that do? did you read my post? I’ve been playing from release until now without any problems, on medium settings and 25-30fps. Just today GW2 keeps freezing.
Intel Q6600 (4x 2.4Ghz), 2GB ram, Geforce 8800 GTS 512 (driver 306.23), 500W PSU
Yes, an old system. But again, it worked fine until today, and i didn’t changed anything….
I even have a clean Windows 7 (64bit) installation with nothing on it besides the Nvidia driver and GW2.. yet it also freezes. My PC runs fine, it is just GW2 that is causing the issues

I can play other games just fine. It’s only when i play GW2 that now all of a sudden my PC keeps freezing.
Interesting though, another guildy reported having similar problem today. But there wasn’t a patch or anything so i don’t get it.
Anyway, i managed to stay ingame for a longer time when i was not moving or doing anything. did some autoattacks, also worked. Then i tried to cast some skill and as soon as i pressed the button, the game froze, so i’m starting to believe it is not related to my GPU…

Hi,
I’ve been playing GW2 since release without problems, but all of a sudden, It became unplayable today:
I decided to create a sylvari today, and during the cutscene i suddenly got a screen that looked a bit like the one in attachement. The game froze, showing similar artefacts, and after 20 seconds or so my monitor showed “no signal”.
When i try to play now, the same thing after loading the map and playing for 15 seconds.
- PC works fine doing everything else but GW2
- It’s not a virus, I have a Virus Scan + i didn’t do anything (e.g. browse the web) since i played last ime without problems.
- I tried the ‘-repair’ argument, did nothing
- Didn’t changed driver or anything
Basically nothing changed to my PC. I even have a clean Windows 7 installation (unable to be infected or anything), which suffers from the same issue when playing GW2 now.
Any idea’s?

The patch notes of 25/09 mention:
“Updated vendors in the Ascalonian Catacombs and Caudecus’s Manor to sell level 80 versions of their unique skins rather than level 60 and 70. Players who purchased the level 60 and 70 versions will soon be given the opportunity to upgrade those to level 80 without having to use transmutation stones”
Was this opportunity already given? The reason I ask is that i already transmuted my ghastly shield with a level 80 (rare) shield, and i’m worried that i might no longer get this opportunity as the script looking for people who have the level 60 version might not work for me anymore?
If not, any ETA?

I searched the forum and only found bugs reported about the health regeneration not working at all (which seems to be fixed)
I’d like to address another bug (If this is working as intended, i’d be surprised):
The health regeneration does not scale with character level? isn’t it a bit odd that when i’m scaled down to level 3, I regenerate 30 health/second. While at level 80, i also regenerate 30 health/sec.
Shouldn’t it always generate the same % , or an amount relative to a character’s level? Because if we take two theoretical cases: A level 3 character with say 300 health, and a level 80 character with 30.000 health, the rune would regenerate for 10% on the first, and only 0.1% on the latter, thus making it far stronger on low level characters.
P.S. A 30 health/sec regenerate on level 80 is pretty much useless IMO and does not equal in ‘power’ to the benefits of other runes when equipping 6
Hi,
After finally obtaining the dredge pauldrons (Sorrow’s Embrace set), I must say i’m slightly disappointed by the insane clipping it has while wielding a hammer (as it makes your charr bend more). Please see the attachment, as it illustrates what i mean. Pretty much half of my face is gone :-)
I know there are more clipping issues, but as this is a ‘prestige’ item, i would love too see it not look this awful on charr. If any Anet employee would have the time to fix this (maybe bend the pauldrons a bit more to the back?) i’d appreciate it
