Make WvW Eventful! – WvW, 4 years in
Yes, I have 5 lv 80 mesmers – Funny Puns
Honestly, if its anything that can control the battlefield with heavy cc or interrupts ill take it. I love running heavy control specs in almost every game I play, whether it be dominator in rift, dom mes in gw1, or CI mes in gw2. I am hoping for chronomancer though
I would really love it… there’s already a lot of ideas about time and space manipulation in these forums, I hope ANet picked something from here
If you watch closely, there’s a clock in the field. My speculation is: our specialization is about time manipulation (edit: ok, everyone said this in the other thread) and that field it’s like a reverse-timewarp, slows down movement, skills and maybe even cooldowns and projectiles.
(edited by Menaka.5092)
Still running 2-6-0-6-0 but I have a new idea about a frontline build I could use to bring shattered concentration back without illusionary persona.
Weapons
Skills
Gonna reuse some old suggestions and some new.
Traits
I would really love a new trait system similar to the one that was in Mass Effect 3: you can trait certain skills or classes of skills, but there’s a tradeoff.
For example: increase the effectiveness of your conditions, but your skills have longer cooldowns. Increase damage on shatters, but lowers damage on phantasms (and vice-versa)…
(edited by Menaka.5092)
Wait wait wait WAIT WAIT!
I’m amazed nobody mentioned this:
“we are also looking at the confusion condition in PvE” … “The effect of condition damage on confusion has been increased by 33% in PvE only. This change does not affect PvP or WvW.”
This changes everything!
Ok, end of the sarcasm. I’ll get my buff to timewarp and pray for them to not break anything important.
Change to phantasmal mage sounds nice, but the projectile is so slow it rarely hits, so what’s the point?
Illusion of life: … really?
And of course phantasmal defender. Lots of people running that. I guess. Somewhere.
Not sure about NA, but EU bronze/low silver is still nice. Take a look at our fights ([So] Shellfish guild on Ring of Fire) if you want
i’d be curious to see the numbers of how many players participate in WvW compared to PvP
1 year ago the numbers were vastly in favor of WvW I would say like 10x more players in WvW
People are burnt out of WvW these days but I still think it is maybe 2x the PvP population
More people are trying PvP since the update to the system and addition of reward tracks as well
i will never understand Devs then….why so much time is wasted on the minority of gamers….
and idk if more people are PvPing in the last few weeks. i see ALOT of the same names over and over again.
Because they marketed this game as “E-Sports” since before headstart.
E-Sports bring sponsors, money and free marketing.
ALL HAIL THE E-SPORTS!
I didn’t bother with another pathping, I think you probably have more than enough data by now. Instead I recorded one fight in Stonemist, probably the worst fight lag-wise of the last few days.

Tonight was awful.
Everyone from Italy in my (international) guild was lagging horribly.
I was lagging both by using a VPN through France and without it.

I usually time it with a full stop (releasing all movement keys), then start moving again after the skill went off.
hello everyone o/
I’ve been away from these forums for quite some time, but I’m still playing around in WvW with my guild, still refining my playstyle with the phantasm+mantra 2-6-0-6-0 build.
We had this long outnumbered fight yesterday and I wanted to share the footage: it’s probably not my best fight (going down several times, etc) and the footage is quite raw, I only slapped a bit of music on top. But was really fun, so I hope you’ll enjoy the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRaLAp5uFIo
(might be slightly NSFW due to some F* bombs in TS, but you shouldn’t be watching GW2 videos at work anyway )
Just had this weird idea, so I’m gonna resurrect this post: keep traps.
Either add them as an improvement, for example merging cannons and mortars and using the free slot, or an entire new tab.
In the first case, the trap complexity and effectiveness scales with the keep tier (wooden walls, no traps; upgraded walls, minor traps; upgraded walls and gates, medium traps; reinforced walls: mass destruction traps), in the second case the upgrades require more supplies.
Some ideas for the mass destruction traps:
Account bound unlock to use your guild emblem as a commander tag.
Real question is: if I kill more people, do I get more corpses?
Just wanted to share the videos we ([So] Shellfish) made based on footage from the open mic raids we try to have every week.

Posting again to keep the thread alive, because the problem is still there.
I contacted my provider 8 times by now and they say my line works perfectly.
I guess you guys have absolutely no choice about the routing to NCSoft datacenters, so we’re left in the dust.
I’m still using 2-6-0-6-0 and I think it’s the most effective WvW build we have.

The issue remains, Telia still being the worst offender.
This is destroying my game, I can’t get to play with my friends since almost 2 months.
I’ve tried Battleping.
I’ve tried making a VPN to France.
Nothing is working.
Ok, is my game broken or we have a new effect on portal?
Just got disconnected again, on top of the already horrible lag I’m having since 10 days now. ANet please fix your network.
^ same as above, also I just got disconnected with a new error “5.11:3:159:101”

My provider is checking my line for everything that concerns his internal IPs (up to 89.96.200.194), but again looks like Telia is to blame for most of the damage on international routes.
Remember, when you’re experience these spikes, please do a pathping to the server’s IP address. This gives us more information on the issue, and where packet loss is happening.
1. In-game, type: “/ip” to get the IP address of the game server

3. Type: “pathping <game server IP>” -> Hit the [Enter] key
Will do, but the problem was the same in every map I tested: blue/red/green borderland, black citadel, lion’s arch and some other PVE maps…

Traccia completata.
I already contacted my ISP for issues in their internal network, but the real problem is the AWFUL service provided by Telia international carrier. If you have any control over who is providing connectivity to your datacenter, please DROP TELIA and get some decent connectivity.
This has been going on for months and I’m really angry now.
First: if you’re planning in changing the population distribution and/or matchmaking strategies, the issues about scoring might go away by themselves, so it’s maybe premature to talk about this.
Back when I submitted my proposal for an Eventful WvW I suggested that the score could have been split between holding objectives and the results of the active events. That way, flipping and holding keeps in empty maps would reward a lot less points, let me quote myself here:
From a scoring system point of view, linking the results of the events (including the scaling!) with the score would help balancing the night capping and point-per-tick system: structures that see no attacks for a long time will provide less points in the same timeframe than those that are heavily contested: successfully defending T1 towers could probably give more points in time than a fully sieged T3 keep that no one dares attacking.
With a scoring system based on active play (both from an attacking and defending perspectives) instead than passive “holding” objectives, the scores would be a lot closer between servers, even assuming big population imbalances, so the comebacks would be easier.
I’m running either shatter (for small groups/roaming) or the new phantasm/mantra ranged build, 2-6-0-6-0
I still gotta figure out how to handle them with guardian but I’ll manage. Thanks.
blind/blocks
I would really like a bit more details on how ANet think this would work.
Will the ranking be connected to the alliances?
If true, how will the matchmaking work?
I assume each one of the first 3 alliances will go to a different servers and the process will repeat until the servers are “full”, with the option of having more alliances in one server if some alliances are smaller than the others:
If that’s the case, the Red server would probably have the upper hand because has better coordination between his 2000 players and this would mean that all alliances will try to “stack up” exactly as the servers are stacked at the moment and nothing would change.
Also: will the matchmaking consider coverage during the alliance selection? Let’s say there’s one alliance of American players playing on EU servers. Will the alliance have priority to join a server that lacks coverage in that timezone?
The risk is, again, that the most serious alliances would try to have the full coverage for all timezones, ending up with “stacked” alliances.
Another consideration I would make is about the size of the guilds participating in one alliance. Let’s say alliance A has only 4 big (400+ members) “PvX” guilds, while alliance B has 10-12 WvW guilds that tend to run in small organized groups. Will the matchmaking algorithm try to avoid the “blob vs small organized group” situation? If not, then not only the alliances will be “stacked”, but the guilds will try to be “stacked” aswell.
I really hope ANet will consider that the servers will need to strike a balance between combat groups (organized guilds, etc), “militia” (semi-organized), scouts and defenders and that’s not easily achieved with a “random” or “rank based” matchmaking algorithm.
The only scenario in which a server can achieve that balance is with a full capacity alliance that organizes internally to have guilds and players taking care of each role, but that would be very hard to balance when you need to put that alliance against two smaller alliances that may or may not provide the same coverage in all roles.

Time and date of incident (plus time zone): since friday 26 Sep, every evening from 19:00 to 00:00 GMT+2
Game World: Ring of Fire
Description: packet loss (blinking around, skills not activating) and random disconnections from the game. This applies to both WvW and PVE megaservers.
I don’t think we have enough details to give proper judgement.
How does the alliances work? I’m confined on one server? What about representing different guilds that may be in different alliances?
What about the matchmaking? Will the guild size/raid size be considered while match-making? I would totally love a matchup against alliance/groups of alliances with similar guild sizes and raid sizes and mixed “pug” groups, but I would totally dislike a matchup against guilds with 500+ members with blobs of 60+ in each borderland… even if I had many small guilds helping.
I never was a big fan of solo roaming (I play MMOs because of the social component mostly), but during the season it’s really hard to find any roamers, at least where I’m playing right now… and, yeah, I agree with Doiid… all the cheese.
Still trying to learn this “ranged mesmer” stuff I’m not used to
From my experience, having iZerker hit full on first attack with +15% from domi adept and +15% from inspiration gm minor is A LOT of damage. In the video you can see about 7.8k on zerker rangers (and you can drop MoP and Mind Stab on top). I’ve seen damage up to 8.5k from this invuln izerk, so I really have a bad time renouncing it, altough I love gs cd trait.
My point is: spike kills people. Being able to spike more often and having more sustain damage is nice (overall you do more damage in the same amount of time), but if you lack damage on the spike, the enemy will never go in downstate/defeated… Hit hard when/if you hit.
You truly are an inspiration for all shatter mesmers
keep up the good work and those crazy shatter combos!
Maybe it only takes time to get used to it, but I find it really weird and unpredictable.
What are Mesmers running in WvW for zergs at the moment?
I haven’t really played much lately and was wondering what the best builds are right now for mesmers in zergs since the last patch.
I’m running 2-6-0-6-0, I posted a thread here
So I’m a scrub and therefore want your input on a question: would swapping 2 points out of inspirations (losing heal on mantras and the 15% damage bonus) for 2 more points in domination for Greatsword training be a good idea?
You would lose some damage on the spike (phantasm hitting for less), but gain some power that afflicts ALL your damage, and have all gs skills recharge faster. It’s worth a try if you don’t feel like the healing is necessary for you and/or your group.
I play this build , you should try
I will do a video .
So funny to play 2 6 0 6 0 !
Without triumphant distortion your phantasms will die before attacking in a zerg, and without a stun breaker you’ll die very very quickly. It might work for small scale, but I’d rather go shatter in small scale
I didn’t see enough MoP recharging to justify taking Restorative Mantras. Regardless, taking ether feast over mantra heal with two mantra traits (and mender’s purity) confuses me.
Restorative mantras is very good if I find myself on a bad spot and with the heal in cooldown, and for regroups (when I don’t miss it ). I don’t feel the mantra heal is good enough for my playstyle in zergs, I would rather have a bigger heal with fast cast time every 20s for when I screw up than two small heals with a cooldown in the middle, just a matter of taste
Looks good. Don’t bother with Mantra Mastery though as you’re only using MoP and therefore the cooldown reduction is insignificant. In the Duelling line, you’d probably get the most benefit from Phantasmal Fury and Deceptive Evasion (shatter flexibility). As you’re backline, you probably won’t need Blade Training either as you will mostly be on your greatsword.
At the moment I’m using the second variation, with Phantasmal Fury and Protected Mantras, so channelling the mantra has the double effect of giving me a bit more toughness and healing at the end.
Hello everyone o/
I wanted to share some of my earlier fights with the new build based on mantra of pain and phantasms with triumphant distortion.
Build variation 1 – Build variation 2 – Video
These are probably not my best fights, I’m still learning: the playstyle is very different from what I was used to, but it’s very enjoyable.
The best rotation is probably something like iZerker + MoP, Mind Stab + MoP, Mirror Blade + Mind Wrack, but I somewhat managed to never use it in these fights, that’s how bad I am
I hope you enjoy and I’m looking forward for feedback!
Edit: I have mote footage with the same build but without the commentary here (last fight) and here (last two fights)
(edited by Menaka.5092)
I play on Augury Rock (yes I’m french :P ). So we are fighting against guilds with 25-30 members, sometimes more, sometimes less (but unbalanced fight in our favour are not interesting).
if you play in an organized group and you are confident your group has enough boon stripping necros and mesmer to remove all the aegis/stability, interrupts might work, but from what I’ve seen it’s really hard to cleanse the constant spam of boons…
The vitality in my build is usefull because of the rune of exuberance. If I change for a full soldier build, I’ve got more power, equal thougness and less hp.
I really like hoelbrak for ranged and melandru for melee oriented builds. Travelers for more mobility or even runes of the pack… you really want at least 40-50% crit chance if you want to bring some damage to your guild (on top of your utilities).
So, I might change the mantra of distraction with or mantra of concentration, blink or signet of midnight. This signet is a break stun and when we use it, we blind nearby foes. Can be usefull I think against war and hammer (F1). Which one should I take ?
Mantra of concentration if you plan on staying with the frontlines most of the time, Blink if you are playing ranged.
@Menaka : sometimes you played with a sword/torche. Why did you choose a torch ?
For small scale/roaming is mostly useful to lose the focus (if an enemy group is focusing you, you go stealth and reposition). In the frontlines can add a decent amount of damage to your spike, work as a defense to lose the targeting of backline focusers (thieves and such) or even to blast water fields, but that requires good timing…
Also, consider that focus phantasm was broken since late October 2013 and has been fixed only recently.
How the hell did they manage to break this?
Even if I tend to agree with Sandrox in saying that Guardian makes a better commander “by design” (self healing, leaps, stability, protection, blocks), I did command on my mesmer.
Some notes from my experience:
I would say in WvW we’ve seen a definite improvement. The nerf to sword swap still affects the gameplay badly, but the changes to Mantra of Pain and Triumphant Distortion made possible a backline build that can dish out real damage on spikes, and I’m really loving it.
I have a video in the works showing a bit of details about the build, but you can already see some fights in which I’m using it here (last 2 fights) and here (last fight).
You sure like vitality… looks far too tanky to me. I was running with less tank in frontline groups, about 1 year ago, you really don’t need that kind of protection for a “midline” build that can get in (sw) and out (staff) from combat fast and will try to focus on interrupts…
The real problem I see, from my experience (currently in top bronze league/EU), Mantra of Distraction in WvW is pretty much useless in the current meta: way too many guardians giving stability and aegis to everyone around them, in particular during the regroups, when you want to interrupt the empowering/blasting of water fields.
I abandoned the idea of making a interrupt build for WvW for the moment, but I don’t know about the meta on the server you are playing on. Your mileage may vary.
Beware: as a Charr you’ll be targeted in group fights A LOT more than any other race (except Norn).
WvW is basically broken at the moment and no amount of tournaments, trailers, siege masteries or photoshopped doritos will help it. It needs a proper rework. The game mode has incredible potential. It’s just being wasted.
I completely agree.
Basically removing the achievement requirement during a tournament is an experimental step we took to reduce the incentive for achievement grinding. We want people to play WvW, and not focus too heavily on satisfying achievement requirements.
If we find that players prefer having numerous things to check off a list, then we would certainly take that feedback into account and consider it for future tournaments.
The best way to have people play WvW is to improve it.
These are only a few points. Most of them have been discussed over and over in the WvW forums, alongside with many more, but still, the feedback from ANet has been pretty much non-esistent.
