Guild: Commanders of the Reborn Empire Nation [CORE]
Level 80 Professions: Mesmer, Warrior, Thief
I farmed 4 stacks of them, and got a few minis and candy. No skins.
So is it better to sell the dragon coffer chests or use them…? Anyone having luck with them?
All it takes is one warrior, full berserkers, balanced stance, “for great justice”, frenzy, hundred blades, and the things drop in about 3 seconds without getting a chance to even move from their spawn…so everyone is just being selfish about them.
Please continue to buy RNG boxes, folks, so we can support content we can’t even play! Moa races are temporarily disabled and Dragon Ball allows for exploiters to be invincible. If ArenaNet expects players to waste tons of in-game gold or spend their real money to support pushing out new content…then for goodness sake make that freaking content playable. I didn’t complain about these kind of mistakes in the previous updates, but this failure has proven it is impossible for the team to produce content that isn’t hopelessly flawed. And don’t forget it is also temporary, while more permanent bugs persist. Fix the class bugs, prove you can make content that works upon release or can be fixed quickly, then maybe I’ll waste more money on the flawed RNG system. It’s a lose-lose for me, and nothing has proven the company is capable of making spending money worthwhile.
My favorite song for Guild Wars 2 (excluding the Guild Wars 1 songs that were recycled). Does it not remind anyone for the beginning of the Hobbit movie. Like the dragon kites, Lake Town atmosphere, etc.
Seriously Anet, when are we, and every other profession in the game, going to get some fixes. Forget providing new content (which is generally buggy and / or temporary anyways) and fix the problems with the CURRENT and PERMANENT aspects of this game. I love the concept of the Living Story, but don’t let it cripple the other parts of the game that are in dire need of a fix just to get people to dump money on the gem store. Correct tooltips, fix bugs, balance the game. That needs to take priority. You have a wonderful group of players that point out bugs and patiently wait for changes (for MONTHS on end). Please respect their wishes. Thank you.
Mere Image, the name I used on my Mesmer from Guild Wars 1. Sort of a pun because I imagine this character would a bit of a narcissist and love being able to see mere images of himself. Sylvari!
I’ve heard that the lack of Confusion runes was something that was supposed to be fixed (so they acknowledged that it’s not intentional), but it doesn’t seem as though anyone’s ever gotten around to it.
People at ArenaNet do a very good job at “getting around to it.” Remember the map completion star. It took months for that very significant fix. And even now, there’s a thread concerning a nerf to the iBersker that occurred months ago. I like what the OP is proposing. I just don’t think the devs will get around to reworking the traits when it takes several month to put stars above our clones’ heads to conceal the real Mesmer.
Kill the scepter, and give me a main hand pistol. The scepter has an identity crisis. It doesn’t know if it’s for conditions, shattering, or direct damage. Give it a clear direction or give us a new viable option for a ranged one-handed weapon. I love the sword for main-hand, but sometimes I want to be a coward and go full ranged. The scepter is the only one-handed ranged weapon we have for our main-hand. I want something to go with my focus off-hand that offers me ranged capability.
I didn’t know if I read this correctly, as I only browsed the linked forum post briefly. But from what I understand, developers are planning on adding a new condition to the game…eventually. Like I said, I may have misunderstood. But even if they are planning on releasing a new condition, it will be “down the road,” which could mean a year or more for all we know. If they are adding a new condition, however, I definitely think Mesmers should have access to it. Could the condition nerf foreshadow having the ability to utilize better (and by better I mean more consistent) condition damage in the future? Thoughts? Comments? Illusionary cupcakes?
Hopefully Mesmers will have access to this condition as well, considering that every rapid gear Mesmer is raging on our forums. With confusion getting such a hard nerf, it would be nice to have some method of being effective condition spreaders.
Oh come on… Pretty much all that got nerfed is just confusion and a couple of highly specialized confusion heavy builds.
Phantasm and Shatter are pretty much untouched and those are basically the main builds we use anyway.
The only annoying thing about this update is that iZerker bug is still here.
Honestly, I actually think that we got relatively stronger now, Thieves, Eles and Engineers all got quite a few painful nerfbats in their face, so we will have easier time with those too.
Give it a month when people start complaining about shatter builds. The problem here is their new policy. Noobs cry = nerf.
SO…they’ve been saying they were going to nerf shatter builds for a long time because they make new players cry from instantaneous downs. Instead they nerf our best condition build. Are shatters (power) builds next, even with the already buggy iBersker having mediocre damage? What about scepter? Shouldn’t they re-gear it for conditions (make it apply either bleeds / poison / burns instead of stupid clone generation)? And what about the staff? I would have been ok with the confusion nerf if they made the staff more viable for condition builds by removing the vulnerability stacking. Instead I feel forced to run shatters, which I’m sure a lot of you are feeling pressured to play now. Won’t people just start complaining about shatter builds again once the other builds we could run are ruined, potentially causing us to have mind wrack nerfed unexpectedly by 50%. Oh, the day when nerfs were made to balance player skill instead of the profession itself.
Blinding Befuddlement trait:
Increased duration of applied confusion from 1 second to 4 seconds.
Can now trigger only once every 5 seconds on any target that is blinded by the mesmer.WvW: Updated confusion and retaliation effects to do the same damage as they do in sPvP
I saw the damage nerf coming which is way too huge according to most people. But the change of blinding befuddlement is just …. wooow.
ANET this is not a nerf, this is genocide :>
Yeah people thought the glamor builds might still be somewhat viable, after today…well, good luck killing pigeons and rabbits with that.
Ahh, snap. Gotta finish leveling the Thief or Guardian now as I’m completely useless in WvW unless I want to run glass cannon. Thanks A-net.
Oh, I started that a month ago. Leveled a warrior AND a thief because I expected we’d get a nerf. And after the indirect nerf to Time Warp, I just decided to play around with other professions for PvE and WvW rather than brace myself for disappointment. Oh well, after reading the Elementalists’ forums, I don’t feel quite as angry. They got the kitten nerfed out of them. I suppose rolling on of the three most played professions (guardian, warrior, thief) can always be a good back up plan. Still…they should have buffed some of the weaker things to compensate for the nerfs. Scepter, for example, become really weak if you use it for a condition build (not that it was strong to begin with). And they nerfed eles mobility while failing to keep their promise of buffing their burst damage.
I don’t really mind the # of buffs or nerfs or the actual balance situation. At least… not the way it is right now.
The way I see it, we have lots of bugged traits, non-sensical trait-layouts and weird tooltips and functionality quirks left.
I’d fix those first (for all classes). Then start on balance. I’d rather have a lot of choices right now than a single balanced choice.
Given how long it took to fix the map completion star bug, we might have to wait a long time for future fixes. But yeah, I’m with you on that. Bugs should be a priority.
Mantra builds seem interesting and it looks like they have a lot of potential but as of right now I feel like they are built more for support-type gameplay. At least for me, it’s not enough to replace Null Field, Blink, or Feedback.
If they are going to nerf confusion, they should at least improve how well we stack other conditions to make condition mesmers still viable
This idea I like. If confusion is too overpowered, which I don’t believe it is, could we be given some better options for inflicting damage via other conditions. I would like to have the potential to stack more bleeds if possible, anything to balance such a hard nerf.

While Mesmers have received a number of favorable buffs in previous updates, overall we have suffered an immense number of nerfs since the beta. Scepter originally applied confusion with the auto attack (obviously overpowered), cool downs on all phantasms were extended at one time or another (which would be the equivalent of giving longer cool downs to key skills on the weapons of other professions), the EFFECTS of time warp were nerfed in the last patch (take it however you wish), portals were given longer cool downs and allowed for fewer people to use them (even though the nerf was largely made due to it being abused in sPvP). Just re-read the patch notes—oh wait, many of our nerfs came as ninja nerfs that weren’t even MENTIONED in the notes. Remember the LoS problem, first apparent in the iBerseker whose attacks failed to connect with the intended target. This problem persisted for several weeks, despite crippling a good number of Mesmer builds. Oh, the days when our phantasms couldn’t even be summoned because a bump in the ground rendered your line of sight obstructed.
Yes, I’m ranting. I get that. I’m just saying. We are a profession that helped define guild wars 1 back in the day. I think we deserve better than constant disappointment. Are we still one of the best professions in the game? Of course we are. We are still capable of excelling in 1v1, of being viable in parties, contributing to high level fractals, and killing mindless noobs in WvW that spam 1 when confusion is coming out of their ears. Even so, many other professions are equally desirable, if not more so in certain situations. When I re-read the warrior notes and the anticipated buff that will make them bunker-slaying gods, I can only pat myself on the back for leveling an alt, and getting over having never played a “brute” class in any other MMO. We aren’t broken, we aren’t undesirable, we aren’t weak.
I’m simply stating, I’m am overwhelmed with disappointment.
P.S. looking forward to the next major nerf—I mean, UPDATE.
I’m just glad I went full power and crit damage on my ascended gear. With that being said, I wish they could at least announce big class changes prior to releasing new gear, or at least allow you to exchange gear for a price of a couple gold. Most of the current ascended gear takes time to get (laurels, for example, can only be acquired at a fixed rate of one per daily and then of course the monthly). Isn’t it a bit unfair to players who invested the time and effort to run a specific build to be unexpectedly nerfed? Sure, you can get exotic gear and be slightly less effective. But most players are going to want to run their favorite build to the fullest potential. When it takes a month to get a single trinket via laurels, builds could become obsolete within the same time frame it takes to get them.
Nerfs aren’t made to balance classes anymore. Nerfs are made to balance player skill. Kitten players get buffed and skilled players get nerfed.
Smart players remove conditions when they pop up. Poor players auto attack with ten stacks of confusion on them. This nerf wasn’t made because confusion was overpowered. It was made because ignorant players think anything that kills them “unexpectedly” is overpowered.
Nerfs aren’t made to balance classes anymore. Nerfs are made to balance player skill. Kitten players get buffed and skilled players get nerfed.
Nerf? I will still destroy anyone 1v1
OP was obviously referring to Time Warp, and if you needed Time Warp to win in a 1v1…well, that’s another problem to consider entirely.
As many of you know by now, quickness (not Time Warp specifically) was nerfed across the board for ALL professions, not the Mesmer alone. However, even though quickness was nerfed in its effectiveness (from 100% to 50%), it was also given an extended duration. Unfortunately, this “extended duration” does not apply to Time Warp.
With that being said, many Mesmers have regarded this as a nerf geared direclty at our profession, and more specifically, one of our best elites, if not our most useful elite in a group setting. As a way to compensate for our loss, I’m proposing that Time Warp retains its present duration and cool down; however, in addition to giving quickness to ALLIES, it also provides a type of debuff to ENEMIES that reduces their attack speed by 50%. This would make the skill more useful in all game types (slower boss attacks in PvE, an AoE speed debuff in PvP, etc.) without rendering it OP. Furthermore, the Mesmer is known for the duality of its skills. Chaos storm, for example, can be a boon shield for allies or a slight debuff field for enemies. Null field removes boons from enemies and conditions for allies. Why shouldn’t Time Warp operate in a similar manner? Isn’t it time for Time Warp to actually warp time in both regards rather than just speed it up? It’s an interesting thought…
The thing is though, Anet said they nerfed quickess to 50% speed and extended the duration. Unfortunately that extended duration does not apply to Time Warp; it remains 10 seconds long, creating the illusion (or reality) that Mesmers were singled out. I wouldn’t have minded the nerf if they had given us some compensation: a shorter cool down, slightly longer duration (13 seconds instead of 10), etc. Actually I’ve always entertained the idea of time warp serving a two way effect, and with the nerf it would be really cool if they added this feature.
My thoughts: Time warp – increases attack speed for ALLIES by 50% and decreases the attack speed of enemies by 50%.
I rolled a warrior… Not because of any nerf to mesmers. I see one nerf and its across the board for all classes. Why is everyone overreacting to this.
Mesmer is still my main and I destroy warriors in WvW
I don’t mind the nerf in a WvW or PvP setting, but in PvE it is really taxing. Skills like hundred blades suck outside of PvE, but in a dungeon you can complete a dungeon in around 6 minutes with a single Mesmer and 5 Berserker Warriors. As the stronger PvE classes (Guardians for fractals and harder dungeons, Warriors for anything you intend to speed clear) it makes the other professions less and less desirable.
On gw2lfg.com, for example, nobody requests for Rangers or Thieves or anything else; they all want Warriors and Mesmers, ELUSIVELY. For Fractals, everyone wants Guardians. ArenaNet needs to focus on balancing PvE so that all professions are equally welcome in parties. I’m tired of feeling like if I play something beside Guardian or Warrior, people will feel that I’m hindering the group’s efficiency. Good players should be chosen, not good professions. It’s just disgusting that people will kick you because they want all of one profession ONLY and nothing else.
I started leveling a warrior a month ago. Once again, Mesmer receives a nerf and minor bug fixes. Why won’t they fix some of the more prominent bugs before implementing such a powerful nerf? That would be more of a fair trade off than just making Spatial Surge slightly more useful.
I’m kind of sad. All of our profession specific skills that the Mesmer is known for have suffered since the Beta. After Portal nerfs and the terrible LoS issues, people said Time Warp would be next, but I didn’t believe it. Once again, not sure why these changes should affect PvE. Time Warp may be OP, but isn’t Hundred Blades also OP in PvE? And adding a 30 second cd to Portal before was just inconvenient and not necessary. It should have just affected PvP. This is the reason I re-rolled a warrior a month ago, because I can only expect minor bug fixes and major nerfs. I still love the Mesmer, but I am definitely tired of unexpected changes that hinder PvE efficiency.
I saw this coming months ago. Started leveling a warrior, because apparently 20k hits with one skill isn’t OP in PvE while the nerf everything else.
Why hasn’t this been stickied? I want to be able to keep up with the other Mesmer YouTubers
The are listed in reverse chronological order of the date they were posted, so I would recommend the ones near the top.

I have been very reluctant about posting these builds on the forums, but seeing as how they have received mostly positive feedback (<— not the Mesmer skill) on YouTube, I am posting a compilation of detailed guides that I have come up with for the Mesmer. These guides vary in a number in their methods, function, and purpose, but the majority of them are geared toward PvE, dungeons, Fractals, and WvW (in other words, everything but sPvP). I will include links and a brief description of the build itself. Links will be listed in reverse chronological order rather than by the category of the build itself. I hope you find at least one of these useful
1. Condition Build? I’m Confused
This video features a condition build…sort of. It relies on greatsword clones to stack bleeds but also isn’t lacking in the burst department. One click of your F2 skill, Cry of Frustration, and your enemy will be killing himself, meanwhile you are armed with Retaliation, which will allow you to suck even more of your enemy’s health away. And do you hear that? It’s the moaning minstrel…
2. Fractals of the Mists: How to Glass Cannon beyond levels 30+
This is a video featuring tips to make your life easier as you progress through FotM. I’m running a glass cannon spec, using my Balanced Build shown in a video listed below, entitled “Build of Balance.” As a Mesmer, you are able to dish out a lot of damage, while still maintaining moderate survivability.
3. “Loaded Signets,” Mantras, Duality
In this episode, I reveal my “Loaded Signet” build, a variation of the “Build of Balance” that was featured in my last video. I also take a look into a new build entirely, which focuses on Mantas and delivering high, sustained DPS. Lastly, I discuss the “duality” of the Mesmer class, a segment in which we will take an intensive look into some of the skills that offer a variety of options wrapped into one neat package.
4. “Build of Balance”
Tired of changing from a Fractals build to a pure glass cannon one to get the dailies done? If you’re anything like me, and you change your build multiple times every day, you know it can get time consuming, not to mention it begins to burn a hole in your wallet (illusionary wallet ftw). This build focuses on giving you the ability to support yourself while still pumping out the damage.
5. “The Illusionary Bunker”
With the nerfs to phantasms, including our damage and LOS requirement, I have made a build that focuses less on the illusions and more on the…reality. Just so everyone is aware, they nerfed illusionary membrane so that it can only trigger once every 15 seconds. This build is still viable by all means, but slightly less effective. Also using Runes of the Earth is now necessary in order to keep protection up. Before the last patch it was easily possible to have 30 seconds of protection in the middle of a fight, now it’s not always probable that you will have protection up 100% of the time. Still an effective build nonetheless for those of you wanting to tank in cloth.
6. “WvW Guide:” A Shatter Spec
This is an aggressive style build that I made when phantasms were getting nerfed and had huge problems with LOS. If you fancy the the way of the thieves, downing people in seconds without them knowing what hit them, then you’re in luck. This build is deals devastating burst. Just be mindful of condition-based foes. Cripples are you weakness. Bring Null Field or some other condition removal if you want some security.
7. “Dungeon Guide: Support”
This is a guide to an adaptable Mesmer dungeon build. This will allow you to deal damage, while keeping your party members alive and healthy. Full berserkers armor is great if you have a good group of friends you can speed-clear with, but what about for those of you just getting on your feet? Here’s the perfect build for such an occasion.
8. “PvE Guide” Part 1 and 2
My first build / guide, and the one I’m probably most embarrassed to post. I made this guide when there weren’t many level 80 Mesmers yet, or level 80 players in general. Still, if you are just starting out or are simply looking for a good build to run for farming in Orr, check it out.

Just a couple of the more recent videos from my channel.
The devs have done better lately with trying to establish balance in the game, but there is still a strong element of a pendulum effect that causes players to doubt their ability to maintain long-term consistency.
fix the freaking map completion star before you make a random buff and then nerf that buff the following patch. do any of the devs have foresight in any small degree?? balancing in this game is a mindless pendulum of idiocy.
We at Arena Net are aware of your 5,000 bugs. We will fix them soon™. Oh we’ll be lowering all your damage and increasing Phantasm cooldowns.
I don’t think the nerf was really all that bad. I’m just upset with how quickly they nerfed a buff they only recently implemented into the game, while leaving bugs that have been present since the game’s release.
I recently started a YouTube series called “Nerf or Buff.” In it I attempt to addresses the update notes from a Mesmer’s perspective and analyze how it affects builds as a whole. If you have the time or are simply bored, feel to free to check it out in the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFC2RWaxIG0

1) Mesmers need to be nerfed. You guys have nerfed every other class but this one. The moa supercharge should not cancel other people’s elite skill.
I was litterally just in a match that had 1v4. The mesmer’s health was not even going down. You need to nerf them. There is no way one mesmer should be able to take on 4 people, with one being a guardian that can heal pretty well.
2) Your matchmaking system is a messed up. You have 4 mesmers on one team usually. The teams should be balanced.
3) A new type of game would be nice. A lot of these people inside SPVP do not understand the point of capping points. PLEASE introduce a game that is just killing people.
Do you read the patch notes for Mesmers? Ever? Like seriously ever? We have been nerfed every patch since the beta. The last patch we received our first major buff, and guess what. They intend to nerf that. PvP is screwing up the life of the PvE Mesmer. At least keep informed with a class you’re demanding nerfs on.
Please split the changes. PvE mesmes continue to suffer because of PvP complaints.
It’s not merely the class. It’s how you play it.
Here’s a link to a build I had made just several days before…now it’s half as effective. Went from having protection stacked up to 30 seconds to not being able to maintain it even 80% of the time during fights, and that’s a very generous estimate.
Yeah, but I use this trait on my support build now to increase party buffs
I would love to see them taking away the 15 second restriction.
I think it’s great that Mesmers are starting to function even better as great buffers/debuffers.
