I’ve been trying for the last hour, using every strategy you can in a game that’s as simple as tick-tack-toe. I seriously shouldn’t have to spend this long in a mini-game as part of an achievement. It’s all luck based, even if you know the right strategies. Furthermore, other players got away with Mango Pies, which cannot be used now. Meaning this content is not fair in two accounts. Abusers get rewards, and luck is the winning factor. Just unacceptable.

Why Devs FAVOR mesmers.

Please consider what calling for nerfs means to a PvE mesmer. You are stating how overpowered we are, like the many other QQ’ers, without even understanding what you’re complaining about or the implications a nerf would have for PvE Mesmers. At least understand the basics of your post’s argument (you obviousy have very little knowledge of how stealth actually functions for a mesmer).

Stealth, as its been pointed out, is on high cool down. Aside from being an ability we can’t abuse or spam, it also is not exceptionally valuable in PvE except for specific situations. For example, using Mass Invisibility, an elite skill on a 90 second cd, is hardly worth using in the average, everyday fights involving trash mobs. Perhaps useful for bypassing a group of them or rezzing a friend, but hardly overpowered.

I was browsing the thief forums when I read this thread about a guy pleading for balance in the game (as if thieves need to be buffed for the sake of balance). Anyways the point is, in part of his post he was complaining about how overpowered Mesmers are because of our superior ability to dish out conditions (lol). Here’s his actual post:

“I once took 16 stacks of confusion with a few stacks of bleed, and some other stuff. I used two skills and took around 7k damage(just from the confusion I mean)”

This is why we are slowly but surely getting nerfed, my friends. What player in their right mind would continue to spam skills with 16 stacks of confusion?! God rest his keyboard.

Increase/decrease by 28% is a multiplier of *1.28 or *.72

Wait, wouldn’t the increase of 270% need to be a multiplier of *2.7? (Typo?)

No. An increase of 100% doubles the hp, corresponding to a multiplier of *2. An increase of 200% triples it, and an increase of 270% is a modifier of *3.7.

That’s what I get for doing math in the morning. My bad :P

For a hybrid regen trap ranger, mesmers get completely owned 1on1 as they haved a mixture of dmg and condi , but if a ranger goes pure dmg hoping to beat the mesmer that way it won’t work. It’s whole class mechanism is to avoid direct dmg attempts. So you need to apply fast condi that lasts over time as most mesmers have horrid condi removal. This doesn’t make ranger godly or overpowered by any means and if it does then that means a condi thief is the most op class in the game in your eyes, all it means is just what you folks have been saying and that’s to ‘find a counter’ and play that counter well.. Regen condi ranger is a direct counter to most mesmer builds and if played right against a mesmer, completely unstoppable.

Every class has a counter, and regen condi rangers get owned by a well played guardian/elementalist/burst thief/condi thief (their traps destroy our pet because our pets can’t dodge and simply follow us and they manipulate this shoddy mechanism)/burst power necros now who is completely specced in condi removal and can apply pressure the entire fight on us. In the end though, if we’re talking about strict 1on1s , WvW isn’t meant for that and shouldn’t be looked at as such.

Rangers on the spectrum of classes being played in terms of usefulness are far at the bottom as all we are in a zerg fight is an arrow spammer. The only uniqueness that ranger provides (sadly, too) is to be bait to pull dmg dealers/cc’ers off the main group towards them to suppress the main group itself because the common consensus is the ranger is an easy kill in a group/zerg fight, which is true. Once you cc a ranger to death it’s over as all we have is evasion / dodging. Not kittening, but that is the mechanics and I’m fine with that. I’ve killed entire groups simply by pulling off important players off the main group to try and go for me while my group focuses on the backline of that group completely destroying them so if that is my role, I’ll try to play it the best of my ability.

You guys get: Veil, Mass Invis, Giant circle to step in and get boons, A nice knockback from GS that can interrupt ressing capability on the other group , FEEDBACK and you get portaling which is one of the most effective surprise zerg busting encounter mechanics in the game and you guys are crying about rangers 1on1? Lol, please.

You guys have some of the best group utility and you still complain. It’s very sad how such a class can get so much group utility that’s important and still kitten and whine about kitten especially about 1on1 situations in a Group/Zerg based environment. Talk to any coordinated zerg, ANY coordinated zerg and ask if they veil before encountering another zerg. The answer would be yes. Ask any group/skirmish group , do you do a mass invis to clear aggro off the entire group in a bad situation? The answer would be yes.

Mesmers can also hide in a keep and place a portal down to get more people back into the keep to quickly retake it if they had just gotten wiped and their keep taken.

You guys try to make it out like you’re so underpowered now from this yet you’re still one of the best 1on1 classes in the game while also providing some of the best if not THE best group/zerg utility to a matchup.

It’s hilarious

This isn’t even relevant to the OP. The topic of this thread is concerned with the issue of the new functionality of Chaos Armor in regards to staff #4 and its counterpart that can be obtained via an ethereal combo field. If you want to QQ, then make a new thread and quit spamming this one with your whining. No one here cares that you and two of your friends got trashed by a single mesmer. Every profession can go toe to toe with another if played properly. It’s simply a matter of learn to play.

I’m calling it now:
Next nerf (7/29/2013, IIRC) will be either:
-PU boons (less uptime, more likely)
-DE placement (from 20 -> 30 Dueling. Still “grabbable,” but yer making a sacrifice in other build areas.)

After all, Mesmers are only allowed to be Shatter or Phant, it seems. OTOH, we’ll probably see some “improvement” for Mantras again. I swear, they shoulda just converted the GW1 Mesmer abilities over, instead of tying the majority of our CC/DPS/Conditions into the “Illusion” mechanic. Oh, right – that’d still be Nerf City. /shrug

I guess they will give Deceptive Evasion an ICD.

P.S. Don’t worry guys, Mesmer will still be a top tier profession for PvP. Even after more nerfs.

What about those of us who PvE? I don’t want people confusing the profession of Mesmer for the skills of Time Warp and Portals.

So lets look at what it should be doing now and what it used to do.

Old: 100% chance of 33% reduction of dmg.
Now: 33% chance of a 100% reduction of dmg.

How do you get “33% chance of a 100% reduction of dmg” ?

Shouldn’t it be “33% chance of a 33% reduction of dmg” ?

Well spotted. I think he may have mixed up reduction of damage with duration of damage reduction (protection).

The bug. I agree that this is a nerf to staff 4 BUT it is a buff to every other chaos armor if it actually works. Blind also used to NEVER work. Now it should work for ALL chaos armors. This means that the confuse on blind trait now works. This is also amazing defense for WvW. Being able to blind multiple foes now is BETTER IN EVERY WAY. Its like multiple aegis’s that stack.

This could definitely be a good thing for Chaos Armor then, but now I’m wishing they changed the function of staff #4, since it is essentially a skill that can one can easily reap the rewards of via the effects of other skills with better abilities, like the swap on sword #3.

I play a mesmer and I say good. They are op, and stop crying like they ain’t. I fought 1 with my ranger and 2 others were there. Guess who won? I stayed on the mesmer the entire time and she didn’t go below 50% hp while she just ran around as I bashed her and I died faster. She got the others as well. 3 vs 1? Even if I did suck this makes no sense? So all 3 of us just sucked and that is why we lost? Yet they seemed fine against other classes…

Rangers are considered the best PvP class in the game. If you lost a 3v1 you must be either a horrible player or running a terrible build. A failed 3v1 regardless of class is just pathetic. I’ve beaten Mesmers on my other non-mesmer toons plenty of times. You were probably killing its clones while they were armed with retaliation like a moron.

i can’t see PU being changed again it’s a heavy trait investment and if you don’t have a friendly shadow refuge or shortbow it needs some utils to work as well. the trait’s in a really good place at the minute.

The problem here is that you appear to be using logic and common sense, both being commodities in somewhat short supply over at Anet central.

It’s not just us. They are ruining this game for a lot of people by nerfing professions mindlessly. I understand the need to “balance.” But in a year from now…what will the classes look like. They are making them less unique every patch. I just don’t understand how something that began with so much promise has declined so rapidly to state of utter idiocy.

Also, the necromancers are talking about how Torment condition will be the Mesmer bane. They are hoping it affects teleports and the damage is received based on the “distance traveled.” Which means using “Phase Retreat” could actually do more harm than good to you in some cases. Apparently this will be a way to lock-down mobility for classes like us and the thief…

What about the re-distribution of traits? I don’t know about you guys, but it felt like they were basically implying death to the shatter Mesmer. “Stunbreakers were over abundant in some cases” which might mean the common shatter utilities (decoy and mere images) won’t be stun breakers anymore. I don’t run shatters, but I do like access to good stun-breakers. Also they said they want to balance “over powered” builds. Other people might be excited but I’m frightened we will see some of the popular builds die. At least new ones will be possible. Hopefully iBersker will be getting a fix, but I doubt it.

Help give fractal Mesmers a better name by trying out this build and establishing our usefulness, which extends beyond just casting TimeWarp every 210 seconds! This is a hybrid build that focuses on reflects, coupled with decent damage, support, and survivability.

I’ve been struggling to get the damage on my thief higher. I’m currently running full berskers gear with ruby orbs. My backstabs barely hit for 6k, but I’ve seen people hit double thakittens really annoying when I can one shotted in dungeons while doing pathetic damage. I’m new to thief and would appreciate it if anyone could link or explain their build and gear setup to hit higher. Is it just because I’m lacking ascended trinkets? I have full exotics with a few ascended pieces here and there…

Opening 1000 regular Dragon Coffers [Merged]

Still no tickets, but I got one pair of hologram wings from a regular dragon coffer chest and another from killing a moa in WvW (most random drop I’ve ever had). Unfortunately I got the wings so late that they will only sell for 10 g as opposed to 80 g like they were originally. Honestly, I would recommend selling the coffers. It garuntees some money, and even if you should get as lucky as I did, you are not likely going to break even had you simply sold them.

Pistol Whip Help for CoF farming

My backstabs don’t hot nearly as high as the ones in the video. Maybe a lack of ascended gear could also account for some of the extra damage? How much do thieves normally hit without sigils specifically for CoF and without food?

Pistol Whip Help for CoF farming

I’m relatively new to the thief class, and wanted to know what setup people are using to hit so high with pistol whip. I’ve seen people hitting 15k in the CoF dungeon. Currently, I’m using all berserkers gear with ruby orbs and can’t hit over 10k. Any help would be much appreciated.
