Game client crashing?

It runs in streaks. After my 2nd update I went 2 hours solid and thought they had fixed it. Now 2 downs about 5 mins apart. I’d already stopped doing anything I’d get really irritated if I crashed out of, sticking to farming rubies, etc. Now I’m just quitting for the night. I don’t suspect there’s any attack. Just flaky power or some server getting overloaded and kicking some out. Not everybody, just some.

Yep. 4 times so far since reset (1.5 hours ago). Definitely not my internet, as the only thing affected on my 3 computers is ANET on this one.

player statistics on MAX crafting

All crafters maxed too 500, after ascended armor was released. All weapon makers had already moved up when ascended weapons came out. The jeweler of course, remains at 400.

Once I learned you had to craft your own ascended, up they went to 500.

9 elites, one of each class, all with at least ascended weapons, coat, pants, and jewelry. Some full ascended. I can even play some of them, at least to kill the easier champions.

I went to 400 as part of leveling 4 of them, (2 crafts each) and the rest leveled harvesting mats while the 80’s ran world bosses for ectos.

Yes, what Greener said about HP’s in HoT. Every one gives you 10 HP.

It’s a vertical zone, with HPs at several levels, requiring gliding, running, riding air currents, etc. Run your gliding masteries up first, with perhaps a pause to get bouncing mushrooms, and a few starter masteries for the 4 zones. However, gliding is the key to sweeping up HP from the zones.

For some, just getting to them is a challenge, but then you just commune to get the HP. No fight. Others the fight is just a Vet + some adds, so you’ll be able to handle it, with maybe a few do overs to learn what the mobs are doing so as to overcome it.

You’ll know immediately when you take a champ that isn’t soloable. You’ll be looking for a waypoint to revive, and some help. Just skip it. You only need 250 and you have 4 maps to do it, with I think around 400 HP available.

Airborne for Unbound Guardian

You make it sound so difficult. It’s really not that hard to just walk to the circles when they spawn, seriously.

I played the fight daily on the ground for a month before I discovered I could stay airborne the whole fight. I really do understand the fight, but I hate the ground clutter in some of ANET’s fights. A comment above made me think that the general view that airborne folks are viewed as slackers, just riding on other peoples efforts has me off checking damage delivered both ways. I observe what would be credible damage from up there, and far more healing than I ever do in a ground fight, so I’ll do a few weeks check and see. Unless you are prone to motion sickness, you should check it out for yourself.

The primary reason not to fight in the air is because standing in the green circles gives you a special action that massively amplifies your damage for a few seconds. If everyone did that properly, the fight would go much quicker.

I understand the green circles. However, getting to them from elsewhere in that ground fight is problematic. Then there are the wandering seekers, physical impedimentia to progress in the fight ground area, respawning white mantle behind you and the boss itself wanders all over the place. Looking at the logs, I would not be too sure that the airborne crew doesn’t do as much damage per person as those on the ground. Perhaps more.

If I think about it, I’ll try to pass over the green circles to see if they increase airborne damage as well.

I mentioned touching the ground only because occasionally you get knocked out of the sky, or forget to turn back in time to reach the lift before you glide into the ground. I was surprised it would not stay on auto fire after I set it the first time.

I also have long set my ground targeting so that when I push the key down, the green appears, and releasing it fires the skill. Holding it down allows one to position the damage burst over the Guardian, or over some annoying white mantle attacking peeps from behind. Similarly for the heal (skill 3) and it’s very wide, and produces a bloom of heals rising off the ground when it goes off.

I’ve spent the last two weeks doing the boss of the Jade construct Meta event chain in Bloodstone Maw entirely airborne. It looks like the fight was designed to be fought that way, and it’s certainly a lot easier than all that mess on the ground around it.

There are two uplifting air currents, and either can be used for an out and back foray over the fight, depending on where the Unbound Guardian winds up. I do about 5-6 seconds out and use my reverse key to do an abrupt 180 turn, and fire away back to the lift. Rinse, repeat.

Skill 1 has to be set to autofire if you desire, and resets to non autofire any time you touch ground. I usually manually fire it, and intersperse skills 2 and 3 during the flight.

I’ve done this more than 10 times now, yeilding the 4 blood rubies each time, so I know it works. I see a few people taking it up, but only 2 or 3 persevere to the end. Why not try it? It’s easy, and a lot safer than down below and a ton less aggravation.

I just did it for the 10th time a few weeks back. Given you have everything BUT the 250 needed for elite, (presumably from leveling and from Tyria), drop into HoT zones and start doing the 10x HP ones map by map. Most (75%?) are solo able. Some are just hunt them up and commune, others require killing a Vet and a few adds, and even some of the champ ones are solo able. Others, just start and someone will show up and help.

You only need 25 of them, you won’t be entirely through the 3rd zone and you’ll be done. Takes about an evening. The additional benefit is you’ll learn a lot of the maps.

Followup.

All was well the next morning, about 8 hours after trying several times, and hours before the next server reset. I am told by several that the message is used for Free To Play using the Black Lion TP, where they have restrictions on what they can buy. I know I occasionally get that message when I’m clearing bags at the BLTP even though I have had this paid for account for 4 years and have HOT. People also told me the WvW and PVP servers where having trouble last night and apparently it went on quite a while.

Something is glitched.

The account has passed it’s 4th birthday, and I’ve owned HOT since it’s launch, and this would be the 4th (maybe 5th) earring I’ve purchased from that vendor. This was the first time the character had even entered the zone. Thinking it might just be a server glitch, I’ve logged out and in several times, but no joy. Otherwise the game seems to play okay.

What does that mean?

Situation: level 80 character, elite, wants to buy an ascended Black Ice Earring from the unbound magic vendor in Bitterfrost Frontier. The account has sufficient unbound magic and winterberries, and she’s already wearing an ascended Petrified Wood earring, and was not in possession of a Black Ice Earring, nor had she ever been.

When highlighting the item, the Buy button would not light up, and the title message showed up. I’ve bought 4 others for other characters successfully. Since I only was purchasing one, what does “single purchase only” mean? How do I get the earring?

Basing my conclusions based off other things GW2 does, it does seem like they removed it to kill off personal guilds so people couldn’t use it as additional storage.

They have a 10 mail limit for mail from players so people can’t use it as additional storage.

They only have an option for take all in the auction house presumably for the same reason. It’s not difficult to add an option to take items individually, as other games do.

Personal guilds allowed for a lot of extra free storage, which goes against ANet’s goal, to get people to use the gem store to buy additional storage.

But we got to keep our storage, all 3 banks. Also our ranking and permission system.
Not only us, but anyone we invite can use it.

We just can’t make any other progress, and have no source of funding or the ability to create anything, including the banners we could create prior to HoT.

Can’t you just buy banners now? From Guild Commendation Trader or something?

As I understand it, only if a member of a large guild. To earn the tokens, I have to run GM’s with that guild, representing them, and then the traders that sell them appear to be located in their guild hall exclusively.

So our guild lost what it had worked to get, and we were displeased.

We lived on the daily log in amounts, mostly, so it took a while to accrue and we spent it on things we could use, like banner generation. I recall a something like 24 hour gathering boost, which we used when we would spend a while gathering crafting mats.

We never took the 1 hour boosts, as it took too long to accrue their cost vs the benefit gained.

I was and still am profoundly angry that they did away will small guilds. Two of us used to be able to craft some basic banners, and use them on weekends we planned to harvest, or run world bosses, or whatever the banners helped. All influence driven.

I had no issue with ANET creating a large guild system, with lots of benefits we would never get. However, it was unconscionable to kill off our benefits. What could they possibly hurt? The software was already in place, nothing need be added.

Whenever I see ANET quarterly declining profit sheets, I think on this and several similar issues. It is much better to grow new opportunity for the players than kill off things they’ve worked a long time for.

However, I’m tweaking up my necro and find the the tooltips show the damage being dropped.

I’ve done okay in parts of the game I play. I have 9 characters, one of each type, all 80 elites. All have ascended weapons, ascended coat and pants, and a full set of ascended jewelry (thanks to LS3). I have all crafters to max level. One can do those things one handed, for sure.

I raised the first two with the Been There Done That approach, soloing everything. I raised the rest gathering mats for Ascended weapons/armor (sell excess, buy what can’t be farmed at the TP). I hated to waste all that gathering experience on level 80’s, so rolled another character and out they went. The rose to 80 in the rags they got from drops, then at 80 got a full set of exotic, and ascended weapon(s), and were sent out to solo a champion. Any champion. That’s how I learned to play the class, rather than the occasional skirmish while gathering. I don’t think it’s too big a deal to kill a champion, as many can kill lot tougher ones that I have, but it’s my test for did I learn the class. C’est la vie. Fun to figure it out and do. I’ve died a lot of course, but got it done. That earned them an ascended coat, pants and full set of jewelry. If I couldn’t play them well enough to solo it, they just sat there camping some chest nightly until I could, or ran World Bosses gathering ectos.

I’ve avoided PVP and instances. PVP because I don’t twitch well, and instances because I can’t keep up with folks who have run them for years and just run through. I hold them up, and the loot is no better than open world bosses. I must have run several thousand instances in another game, so I didn’t miss it.

The rewards list state only stats and unblocks are given, but since HoT, a regular rain (8 to 10 at a time) of HP’s show up as the character levels up. With the fast track item, do they still show up? If I use it on a level 80, I do wind up with less HP than I start with? Thank you.

It’s not that I need another level 80. It’s that I’m tired of that shared inventory slot being wasted on that item.

I recently did a bank clean up and became aware that I have over a stack of Tomes of experience (+1 level each), and over 2 stacks of writs of experience (~10% experience each). Since I could level almost 4 more characters, I’ve reached my threshold of needing that slot more than that item.

ANET’s going to make me work to get rid of it, since I can’t destroy it and don’t want a new character. I have a couple of lowbies whose job it is to camp chests at the end of jumping puzzles, hoping for the occasional silver doubloon. I’ll raise one to 80, kill it off, roll another, raise it up to level 22, then have to jump it back up there.

C’est la vie. All for lack of a delete option. <g>

I agree with IllConceived. It reports to me that I must own HoT, then reports that I do, then reports that my new account must be validated, and reports that it has. So what’s it’s point? If they’ve determined I own HoT, and am a validated account, then why interrupt the transaction and announce it to me? Just do the transaction.

For the last 100 or so years I’ve done software for a living, and this screams of amateur debug code, either left in the client accidentally, or ill designed in the first place.

I expect no nourishment from customer support on this type of matter in normal times, and this is holiday season in ANETsville. OTOH, if enough players are seeing it, it’s likely a code bug and hot a malware irritant. It requires clearing the error message, the TP window, and any other open panels to restart the transaction.

It warns me that new accounts must be upgraded to HoT (done at the time of HoT launch, and 9 elites later I’m getting this alert) and newly activated accounts must be validated. (see birthdays, above). The character involved is only one year old.

ANET, what is considered a “new” account? Is this alert to be considered something sinister going on with my not so new account, or a normal software bug?

Petrified Stump question

Michael.9403

Seems only 16 nodes could be collected today, which may be off by one. Net was 16 petrified wood, with a couple of bonuses from killing boss type mobs.

Indeed, only 3 per heart vendor per character per day, and the hearts don’t persist over the account per day. I.e. each character has to work the heart themselves, and each day. Ergo about 30 total petrified wood per character per day.

Is there a reason for this time gate, other than as being an irritation? Is there some exploit that’s being made from petrified wood?

Okay, so the grinding starts. I’ve been told several times what people like about GW2 is they don’t have to grind. Is there a more modern term for grinding? This sure seems to fit the definition. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind grinding, as I’ve done a lot of it. I just don’t like pretending GW2 doesn’t have it.

Petrified Stump question

Yes, there definitely is a limit, and not a big one. My 4th player could not gather the first node, and I’m sure the 3rd one out there fell short, but was too sloppy with the bookkeeping over the night and following day it took between reset to get a handle on accurate count.

I wonder why a low limit? It appears petrified wood can be bought for karma at most of the heart vendors. I wonder if there’s a limit on that too? Like many others, I have about a zillion karma banked.

I’ll pay more attention after tonight’s reset, and should be ready for the first backpack, so will find out the wood issues.

Petrified Stump question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Michael.9403

Thanks for the answer. I meant the nodes on the map, and being new to LS3, didn’t know what to expect, since either answer exists in other parts of the game.

The Bloodstone Crystal wiki notes indicate those nodes cap at 35 per day per account, which is about 1.2 characters worth. Do you know if there is such a limit on petrified wood? Perhaps the bloodstone limit doesn’t exist any more? I’ll know in a few more days.

My intent is to get lesser capable 80’s into a gathering routine, leading to Ascended items that I can’t craft. If the port wouldn’t work w/o qualifying via the story quests, or I could only gather nodes once per account, it would be moot.

It is not difficult to finish your Elite in HoT. I have 9 Elites, one for each class, and all required HP from HoT to finish. My “Been There Done That” character, completed back when the WvW maps were mandatory, still needed 37 HP to finish. My least developed player needed 147 HP. All got them in HoT, and mostly by solo.

You’ll find of the 11 opportunities for 10HP each in the first zone (VB), 7 can be soloed as long as you can fly. Pushing down into the next 3 zones, about half in each zone can be soloed. None of mine had to get deep into zone 3 to finish.

Further, many of the tough HP chances (really tough champions) are so frequently done that you can just ad hoc them when you arrive. Start the fight and stay alive long enough and many will join just for the fight chest, even if they have the HP.

Far more important than getting to Elite once you are at 80 is getting into good gear. Full Exotic is a minimum and if you’ve done any laurel acquisition, you should be on your way to Ascended jewelry. That why you are geared enough to compete in HoT as you grow to elite.
