[The Flameseeker Prophecies] 4/11/13
Itinerant, no guild.
I’d be interested in changing the race of one of my alts – could just re-roll but it’s already level 30.
If the option was there, I’d take it and pay gems for it, and wouldn’t mind a complete background and story reset. Just saying.
I use a Mystic Battlehammer, but even that is a little small on my Norn in Cursed Shore and CoF armor. New options would be great!
Hammers should be big and intimidating, especially when wielded by an 8 foot barbarian covered in spikes and with flames coming out of his eyes.
Almost done with Flameseeker Prophecies. All I have left now is 240 AC tokens and about 10 more Obsidian Shards. Should get it this week.
If you want we can group up in the SAB, I can show you a path where you’ll get youre 10 obsidian shards in less than 30 min
Thanks. I actually got the last 10 shards yesterday. So now I’m just missing 240 AC tokens.
Dungeon tiem!!
Hey all.
I just enjoyed my first day as a commander on SoR borderland. I’d like to thank the endless hordes of SOR who pinned us down into our own spawn after a great Briar fight. really good fights there, i think we smashed a couple of trebs, catas, rams and golems before we finally broke.
After that i would like to give mad props to everyone from my own server that refused to run, but fight on, capping camps at first and then rushing bay and T3 Longview tower and capping it.
In the course of 1 hr we went from being pinned down in spawn to trebbing garri from Longview.
Thx for the fights both SoR and JQ. I hope i can have many more of these epic hours as a commander :-)
SoR BL from JQ spawn through Briar to Bay was also fun as hell over the weekend, I had such a good time. Really intense.!
(edited by Midnightjade.3520)
JQ has a higher WvW population than other servers. The general population including PvE of the top 3 NA servers is a lot closer than folks would think.
Yeah, I think a high % of the folks on JQ play WvW at least part of the time – a lot of players bounce back and forth between PvE, Dungeons, Fractals and WvW.
In fact I don’t even know any PvE-only players. Can’t think of a single one.
It takes me less time to finish the new dailies than it takes for my fiancée to watch her 20 minutes daily soap opera. I don’t see the problem.
Which you can record and watch at another time if it so happens you were not capable of watching the show at a specific day. Not possible here.
I don’t see the problem. 5 silver, 4.5k karma, a laurel and a coin. Boohoo big deal if I miss one of those. I rarely finish more than 4 dailies a week anyways. Yesterday I got my first pristine fractal ring. If you play casual, you’ll really appreciate the pacing of this game.
If you use karma banner, karma booster and karma food (ice cream) it goes up to 7200 karma per daily. I usually save up around 20 plus the monthly (another 10) and then convert them all together – which is 216000 karma. You can do a lot with that.
Almost done with Flameseeker Prophecies. All I have left now is 240 AC tokens and about 10 more Obsidian Shards. Should get it this week.
Is very late here, but for some reason is all good, bc Im not sleepy!
Score Update for u guys!
Thanks, I was looking for a score update this morning.
You sure are going to be tired all day though. Go to bed!
I have had a good time this week in WvW, mainly on siege in SoR BL at Bay. Thanks for the fun to both SoR and BG. We killed them, they killed us and a good time was had by all.
By the way, there are always free for all battles ongoing south of there, but nobody seems to drag the opposition into range of siege, Veterans and PuG reinforcements. Why is that?
We were outnumbered there earlier this evening and managed to do so, and as a result won pretty handily. 8 foot Norn chicken decoy for the win, I guess.
As it stands, the server I am on (Jade Quaggan) is always first. We always, ALWAYS win (the one time we didn’t was because of an exploit!) and as such we are always Green. This makes WvW Map completion very difficult to get.
Can we please just have the colour randomized?
So wait you ALWAYS win but are incapable of taking other servers garrisons/keeps/towers to get your completion ?!?!?!?
Yes, it may seem strange but this is true. If you are on a strong server and win but are facing strong opposition, the enemy will always have core centers upon which it can rely and which it will defend strongly.
BG and SoR EB keeps in T1 are really good examples. Taking them as a JQ attacker is very very difficult – those servers are not in T1 by accident!
In addition on the rare occasions we take them we usually cannot hold them for long.
Rotating spawns in WvW would equalize the battlefield. As a side-effect, it would also allow world completion for those that have been waiting for it for weeks or months, especially on server groups where the opposing forces are well organized and the battlefield tends to remain static for long periods of time.
I’m on a server that gets to unfairly jump on two demoralized servers and see no problem with getting easy PoI’s while controlling EB, all three BL’s, and have dozens of our zerglings dancing on their spawnpoints. As a big pufferfish in a very tiny bowl with two goldfish squeezed under me for several months, I see no problem with the way things are currently set up.
I agree! If someone can’t bribe an entire WvW guild to transfer to their server or just hop to a winning server instead, they clearly don’t deserve that one little point of interest that really has nothing to do with WvW whatsoever.
This made me lol irl – almost spilled my Friday evening margarita. Well played sir.
And yes, for overall fairness and to shake things up it would be fun to rotate colors independently of rank. Some keeps are slightly easier to take than others, and they all have a slightly different atmosphere. Keep it even, so nobody can claim unfair advantage or foul.

As an Asuran researcher of no small renown I’ve also come to appreciate the docile yet hardy siamoth. They provide excellent (and highly disposable) test subjects for experimentation in easy walking distance of my lab.
As an 8 foot Norn with a hearty appetite, I am also a huge fan. BBQ siamoth short ribs are super delicious! Siamoth bacon, siamoth burgers, even siamoth and garlic ice cream. Yum yum yum. I can eat 3 siamoths just for breakfast!
…when you go back to PvE and everything seems like it’s moving in slow motion…
I eventually server swapped for a week to get the Blackgate EB Keep POI and vista, since it hadn’t changed hands in over a month. It still hasn’t changed hands since then – about another month. It was OK – folks on BG are really nice just like on JQ, and I also finally got to complete the Blue BL JP.
I stayed out of WvW to avoid accusations of spying, and because I didn’t feel like killing JQ buddies. At the end of the week I hopped back to JQ, quite a lot of gold poorer.
I was thinking of switching team colors around to encourage stiffer competition.
In the new scheme, first place server would get black leather rockstar outfits. Second place gets dressed like grey bankers. Third place, all the male characters have to wear a pink tutu.
Extra motivation to win!
I’d like straight to inventory, but I definitely prefer the current model over the PvE one – just think what it’d be like to have to check every body’s death location to get your rewards.
Used to be that way, until shorty after release. They changed it so if your target gets pushed down the cliffs you can still get your loot
Fixed for great justice.
Or even simpler, have the badges from kills go straight onto the inventory tab next to karma and laurels automatically, the same way we get XP, Karma and WXP. No bags, chests or anything needed.
And I think this is a grand idea – easy and elegant. Although it’s only a partial solution since it doesn’t address loss of swaggable loot.

Out of interest, how long does the new AC take to run assuming the group is halfway decent and has read the guides/done it before?
I will have to run AC Exp 4 times next week for my Legendary – need another 240 Ascalonian Tears. It’s the final item – guess I should have finished it before the changes.
Thanks!
I would say maybe 20-30 minutes. It’s not bad at all if you know what you’re doing.
Thanks – will give it a shot. I’m 50 badges short of the WvW Gift and am getting about 30-40 a night so am on schedule to start running it next week.
Better spend the weekend reading the new guides, I guess.
Not only do we 2v1 BG, we also now have Devs fighting for us.
3vBG!
What better place to chech skill lag then with the biggest zergball server!
Seriously. We had some major lag last night, and 3 or 4 devs showed up.
Yeah, lots of folks were complaining about skill lag yesterday. I was on a treb half the time, and they fire pretty slow so I guess I didn’t really notice. But it was all over the chat.
Zerg or lownumber fights or camp caps all get badges. Personally, I find manning an arrowcart during a siege gets a lot of badges. Even better is manning a treb against enemy gate or chokepoint, especially if you have a spotter close in to help your aim.
JP are ok and the ones in BL take less than 10 minutes and give 4-6 badges regardless of level. More importantly, they also give free siege blueprints which you can then use to build the AC/treb for activities described above.
Main reason to do EB JP is to get even more free siege and to clear it out for other members of your server to also get free siege. Sometimes it’s worth it, sometimes other servers have it and are also mining that resource.
(edited by Midnightjade.3520)
Can’t we just <3 one another? Once we’re done killing each other in WvW, that is.
Also, I keep bumping my head in the EB JP. Aspirin, anyone? TY!
I think Badges should drop automatically into a Wallet, and that other tokens (eg Dungeon tokens) should do the same. This way, you could choose whether to pick up bags or not, in the safety of knowing your token rewards would still accumulate. PvE tokens (Laurels) and Karma already do this – why are WvW and Dungeon rewards any different?
For example, last night I was on a trebuchet during a push at a keep. In addition to gate/wall damage, the treb killed defenders whenever they came close to the gate or sallied, and a lot of bags were dropping. However, I lost a bunch of them because it was more important to bring down the gate/wall for the team than to leave the treb to pick them up – in fact it would have been selfish to do so. In this case, playing for the team penalized me when it should have rewarded me.

while waiting get some friends or:
http://gw2lfg.com/
Do you still need to be in overflow for that to work or can you just /join from anywhere?
When I’ve been a core gamer in WoW a few years ago (and and addict, and really fat tbh), I had no gf, so that question didn’t arise. Guild leader, raid leader, class mentor, pvp group leader playing for ranks, that was a fulltime job. Usually more than 10 hours per day. Every. Single. Day. 16 hours and more on weekends. My current gf knows that and the only reason she “allowed” me to start playing GW2 was that it’s made for “busy adults”. And that worked out pretty well so far. Played ~400 hours in six months and never stepped back from any real life activities. I can just say “ok I’m out” and I’m not missing anything, unlike in those 40 person raids back them.
Wow, that’s pretty crazy hardcore. I used to raid 3 times a week in FFXI, and played it on and off for 8 years, but it was never like that. More like 10-15 hours a week and even that seemed like a lot.
But yeah, GW2 is much more reasonable and time-efficient than either WoW or FFXI. I was in WvW for a couple of hours last night, got 30 kills, helped out in the zerg, helped take a keep with a trebuchet for a while, did my daily, and ran the BL JP three times. When I was raiding in FFXI it would have taken almost an hour just for everyone to show up and gear up, lol.
The fun versus time ratio in GW2 is good!

I have been spending a bit of time in WvW recently and gave it a shot again last night with the monthly in mind. It really is fun – can see why Anet want people to try it out. I completed over half the monthly in just a couple of hours.
Between that and the JP, it’s kind of a cool list of challenges for April. There’s a list of JPs sorted by difficulty over at Dulfy’s site – really helpful:

Thanks!
I received Venomstriker (exotic pistol) from bonus chest a couple days ago – @ SB.
Supposed to be random drop from Mystic Forge only – pretty nice.
Once again, good times in SoR BL.
And………….score update
Thanks for posting these – that siege fight was fun as hell.
So you want to make it so Staff Elementalists (and other AoE abusing builds) can take down entire zergs by themselves and become massively overpowered? Because that’s probably what would happen, causing ANet to pull a massive AoE nerf across the board that would effect PvE as well and make AoE useless. I SAY NAY!
Do you die now if your in an Ele’s AoE ? Don’t stand in the AoE, it really is that simple.
If you refuse to move out of the AoE, you deserve to die.
When I’m dying due to Ele AoE, I’m either dazed, knocked down, immobilized, knocked back into it, or the worst one…I’ve been lagged into it. And considering how it is ikittenerg, that last one happens a lot, though I don’t normally zerg unless we’re taking a tower, keep, or defending one. I prefer roaming in small groups and causing havoc.
This. Two zergs meet, AoE confusion, followed by AoE damage. Everyone in the front line of the smaller group dies, unless they had time to get retaliation up which is partly dependent on lag.
I finished the JP part of it last night, and am 3/4 done on the dailies. The rest will take a bit longer but I’ll finish it before the end of the month, probably in WvW.
I like WvW a lot but my support-heavy Guardian doesn’t qualify for a lot of kills. Might even be easier to make a level 1 DD ele and spam AoE in the zerg for the 50.
I like watching the ambient animals – especially the cats sneaking around in villages and towns. Really brings the world alive.
None here, although I did get a Celestial Dye once.
It’s not a problem – my 8 foot Norn Guardian looks better in day-glo orange, pink and green anyhow. Blinds the opposition in WvW for the easy kill!
Midnight, I believe (from my non-extensive testing) that the jumping physics of this game and the puzzles designed by ANet (not the exploits) are exactly the same across all races. So if you repeated the same moves you did with your asuran, you might be able to do them again with the norn. Just pay attention to spots and marks on the ground so you can jump from the same place.
Maybe you knew that already, but I do agree with you that the height of the norns makes us not believe on the jumps sometimes.
Yes, agreed! The camera is the problem – on Charr and Norn it is harder to see what you are doing but the mechanics may be the same. I can still complete the puzzles – they just take longer.
On an Asuran or Hume the field of view is clear, making things a bit faster – less stopping to make sure you are in the correct spot.
Yeah, it was a rly long post. =s
Sometimes I have a lot to say u know? hahahaha!
This is indeed the place for mush wailing and gnashing of teeth.
I just think we can do this in a better way, thats all.ps: Great battle on SoR Hills moments ago! We ended up losing it, but we give u guys HELL as a price to have it!! Thx for the fun!
Great! See you guys in-game.
“Someone want to translate this for me?” lol
“Uh… not really. Sounds like a recipe for a headache.” kitten hahahaha
Meh…every game have the down side right? I guess in GW2 is the forum ppl…well, gl and hf with your trolls then!
Actually, yeah, you’re right. Sorry about that – my bad. You have to admit it WAS kind of a long post though.
I’m usually the nice guy on the forum – guess I misread this one totally.
/salute
Jumping feels ok on humes and especially asurans. On my max size norn guard the camera is a pain in the behind and it feels like he keeps banging his head on the ceiling, so I usually just do JPs on an asuran mesmer.
I can finish JPs on the norn – even the one in EB – but it takes a freaking long time because I can’t see straight.
Jade, it was only being run en masse because it was so easy in the first place.
Yes, it was definitely too easy – especially the final boss of P1.
However, now it seems to have gone the other way. That is fine with me and I am happy to run it. But nobody else will run it with me, so I cannot get a group.
If Anet wants people to run this dungeon, they need to either give them an incentive, dial back on a few of the changes, or toughen up the playerbase.
That last option is never gonna happen, and all the kids are going to continue to farm CoF P1 which is even easier than AC used to be (much easier, actually). So the devs need to do something else. Fix it so that those of us that enjoy it can continue to do so.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_of_least_resistance
The most popular dungeon is the most popular because it is the easiest dungeon. If it is adjusted to offer more of a challenge player will, by and large, flock to the new easiest dungeon.
We know that definition and it does not really require a wikipedia link. This suggestion is not designed to turn AC into an example of your wikipedia entry. It is to rescue it from its current sorry state of not being run at all.
“BG is like that guy that tries super hard in a pick-up game of basketball. To bad 99% of them don’t know what I am talking about because that is what we call a sport.”
“My thoughts are that BG is trying to prove they are still going strong and nothing happened.”
“Looks like this week is BGs last hurrah. From what I hear it sounds like there is way too much drama in bg’s community (never a good sign). I like the fact that SoR has zero drama and all our guilds are here to stay and are NOT scounting other servers. This up and down weeks for bg can’t last long, they must really hate not coming in first.”
“JQ and SOR didn’t lose 2 or 3 guilds as well as 2 of their most notable commanders, BG did.”
“Poor BG, never gets any respect as a server.”
Im on BG since beta day 0, WvWvW as a main reason to purchase the game.
We have trolls? Bad players? Yep, we do! And sorry but, U do to! In proporcion, u probably have even more then us… =/
But c’mon, u ppl refere to BG as a individual, we’re a community, with a lot of good ppl and the more skilled players I’ve ever seen!I cant say how many times I’ve heard on TS our commanders saying:
Dont underestimate these guys, respect the enemy!
I’m following the same principle as always: respect the community. All these posts among many others are just disrespectful, far from being true and tbh, rly childish.
In time mb u guys learn that “be Number 1” is not worth when u gotta trash talk, cheat and disrespect ppl to get there, in a MMO things dont stay always the same, and suddenly u find urself surrounded with lifeless trolls and a bad reputation U didnt deserve…you know u’re not gonna be #1 forever right? O.o’
In my point of view, theres a lot of good players in JQ and SoR, and for this reason Im gonna actually do the opposite of what I’ve read here today.
JQ and SoR, congratz on all you’ve acomplished, I had lots of fun fighting u guys in the past weeks. I rly hope u can get rid of these ppl with low mentality, bc imo any champion should be respected and admired, and some of these ppl soon will compromise your “status” with this behavior. I’m sorry to say, but these kind of posts decrease your “glory”… It’s a pity, but true.
Someone want to translate this for me?
Uh… not really. Sounds like a recipe for a headache.
I think you may be confusing LFG and LFM posts. LFM is a group looking for one or two more players. LFG is someone looking for a group, either because they are not experienced enough to lead or (often currently for AC) they have tried forming a group but have had no interest.
Posts for AC are commonly LFG – folks are trying but not succeeding in forming groups to run the instance..
The AC explorable mode dungeon was altered in a recent patch, and this has caused the playerbase to stop running it en masse.
For example, this morning I checked GW2LFG and counted groups looking for the various dungeons and modes. FotM had 39 groups seeking, and CoF had 42. AC had 2. These numbers are currently pretty typical – they are the rule and not the exception.
I’m not sure why the developers altered the dungeon – had run it several times and had a good time. However, the changes they have made to it have not had the desired outcome. Instead of it still being fun but a bit more of a challenge, it is now deserted.
I suggest it be changed again. Up to the devs as to how to handle it, but it is not working as intended right now.
[edit – please do not move this thread – it is a suggestion, not a dungeon-related comment]
(edited by Midnightjade.3520)
First week of January, they were 4S 65C. Right now they are 28S 69C.
There is a problem and it is supply.
I just checked GW2LFG. At time of checking, there were 42 groups looking for players for CoF, and 39 for FotM. There were only 2 for AC, one of which was a ‘speedrunz only zerkwar ping gearz kk!!!!111’ post ie idiots.
I will need to run AC 4 more times for tokens, and am happy to form groups for it, but right now that dungeon is dead. Even Arah has more activity.
My list for the Flameseeker Prophecies is now down to 34 obsidian shards, 148 WvW badges, 246 Ascalonian Tears, and my lodestones.
Getting there!
So this is like the 16th time the trolls predicted BG was dead and imploding and the 16th time they were wrong.
Im sorry, who is BG?
Betty Grable. Look at dat a55!
If you’re having issues with your Guardian in WvW, I suggest finding a good WvW guild, you don’t have to join, you can just find when they’re playing and follow their commander tag (but if it’s a large guild look for the attacking commander tag) and see how your Guardian does in large scale battles.
Also this. From running with a couple of really good commanders I have learned that the quality of the leader is really, really important.
Makes the difference between having a blast versus dying over and over in predictable and repetitious situations.
Not sure why everyone is focussing on our inability to nuke people from the walls. We can nuke people at the doors and through walls instead. You can harrass people outside the gates too, no need to stay safely inside.
Also to flip the example around, guardians are great classes for seiging.
For all the sceptre’s faults, it does a pretty good job of immobilizing and smiting wall defenders.
You’re likely to find the guardian shrugging off aoe pounding away on the gate providing continuous protection, healing and shielding for ram operators. ( no other class can stay at the gate longer than a guardian can )
If you’re trying to keep up with a zerg, just get used to swapping weapons and utilities that give yourself and your team swiftness – that way you’ll be at the front and not at the back. ( you can switch them back just before you arrive at your objective )
This, pretty much. Except that if I’m on Guardian and am inside a keep, I’m on an arrowcart, positioned out of LoS but still able to hit the zerg at the gate. One cart can break up an attack, or at least give your side time to counter or build oil.
And keeping up with zerg is just Retreat and Staff 3.
Having said that, I don’t really enjoy Guardian in WvWvW unless I’m with a good group, giving out buffs. Lack of burst and ranged can be annoying. I enjoy Mesmer in WvWvW a lot more – unpredictable and fun.
I logged in, realized wait time was longer than I would normally play at any one time (2hrs), and logged out. I enjoy WvW but having to wait that long is not practical. If they were going to revamp the WvW gameplay, they should have factored coping with extra demand into the plan.
Improve the situation or lose players – it’s really that simple.
This is really interesting. There are tons of threads on Guardian that go into why Hammer and Staff are good in WvW, AH and such, but both use at least some AoE (especially Staff). If retaliation is such a problem, are these weapons still good and if so why? Would Mace/Shield or Scepter/Focus work better?
I’m asking as a Guardian who utterly sucks in WvW. In a 1v1 against my 80 yr old grandma I would still have no chance! I want to get better. Help me out!
EB JP is controlled strategically as a source of free siege for the WvW server population. It’s high-traffic and highly contested and legitimately so.
If you’re having issues with it, you can just do the BL JP on a few alts – much less contested and takes around 10 minutes per alt. Each will get 4-6 badges, while the longer EB JP gives around 15-17, so the net results are similar in terms of time and reward. Or you can do the BL JP 3 times and then see if any mesmers are porting in the EB JP.
Standard WvW can get you more badges/hr, depends on your profession and level of experience, and who’s commanding. Personally I really enjoy it but totally suck at it. My major function in WvW seems to be setting up and firing big siege weapons at zergs (gets badges!) and acting as a target dummy for BG and SoR mesmers (no badges for me, lots for them!).
(edited by Midnightjade.3520)
- Line of warding.
- Wall of Reflection.
- Staff 11111111 recurring.
But seriously, I went 0,10,10,20,30.
It’s an ok build.
I tried using Staff in zerg v zerg last night and each time I was dead less than 10 seconds later. Granted it was T1 megazerg ie 50-75 people on each side and those situations are brutal.
Why not just use Hammer if you’re up that close? What makes Staff better? Isn’t it better to stay at range?
