[The Flameseeker Prophecies] 4/11/13
Itinerant, no guild.
My repair bills from being run over by the SoR EB zerg last night suggest there is no 2v1. Their commanders did a good job – we got knocked around quite a bit.
Appreciate the advice – I added a bit of berserker gear and switched weapons. and it seems to help quite a bit in low-numbers situations. Crit % is up, and crit % damage too. Food and oils also help a ton.
My remaining issue is how to handle higher numbers or zerg v zerg encounters. Ending up in the middle of the latter is essentially instant death, but Guards have almost no ranged options. It’s a dilemma.
I’ve seen a lot of people get enthusiastic about Staff #1 for Guardian, but in my hands its range is too short to be useful in any kind of numbers encounter. Scepter has better range but the damage is not good.
What to do? Thanks!
(edited by Midnightjade.3520)
I’ll try that. And yes, I don’t carry a lot of extra gear around although I do carry several weapons – hammer, GS, mace, shield (soon to be FSP!), scepter and staff.
I’m definitely below 30% crit and 30% crit damage – I think I can spare a few other stats to raise those both up to at least hit a bit harder without sacrificing survivability.
And I’ll switch to Judges’ Intervention when roaming.
Thanks.
I for one am very much enjoying this patch. The removal of culling has been great. Its nice to see each server adapt to being able to see each other and the new movements that have come along with it.
Spent a little time in EB last night and came across this!
’DO NOT PUSH UP!"
Haha, great screenshot.
You know you’ve been playing Guardian too long when you switch to another class and try taking on 10 enemies at once.
Totally normal on Guardian. Suicidal on anything else.
I’ve used Scepter 3 to immobilize and then Hammer 542 to finish people off – not sure GS5 would work well since you have to actually connect first but GS3 at least gets you close. And I’ll start using Judge’s Intervention – good idea. Hadn’t even occurred to me to use Sword 2.
Overall, it sounds like maybe Hammer main and a different alternate, and swap a #7 skill would be a good idea. Will need to balance it though.
This is really helpful – thanks!
(edited by Midnightjade.3520)
Yeah, most of the time I can’t reach them.
If I switch to hammer, I can get to them with #2. How do I keep them in range while I pound on them, once skill #5 wears off?
Thanks.
Hi,
I’d like some tips on WvWvW as Guardian. I’m fine running in a group and can survive a 1v1 or even 2v1 (ie get away without dying). However, I have major issues actually winning a 1v1 ie killing the other player, and if I can’t get an escape route I always eventually die.
My build is similar to this:
http://en.gw2codex.com/build/17524-tank-guardian-signets-shouts
And gear is full exotic/ascended cleric/knights (ie PVT+healing) with 6x soldier runes.
I’d like to get better – advice welcome. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
I don’t think JQ has more population than it already did, its just more people want to try WvW because it has Character progression. Its happening everywhere. As someone said in another thread, within a few weeks it will die down some and the numbers should stabilize.
^This. There is still a population cap on all servers. Anet has said so, and on JQ at least there are queues for all Wv3 zones.
Folks that normally PvE, or who were taking taking a break, are trying out the new game dynamics. In a couple of weeks it will die down, and everything will get a bit less busy.
Thanks. I think what I’ll do is finish the Wv3 component of the Legendary, and the final shards, then grind out the AC tokens. If I find a decent group farming it, I’ll hang out with them for a while. It’s only 240 tokens more – just 4 completions. And I’m very patient.
I appreciate the advice and your time.
I need another 240 AC tokens for my Legendary. They and 200 badges and 100 Obsidian Shards are the final items I need to complete. I haven’t done AC since the changes – ran it multiple times beforehand favoring P1.
Is there a guide to the new version? How doable is it with PuGs? If running with PuGs, how good do they have to be? How long does each path now take? How likely is it that they will /ragequit?
I am Guardian with full exotics and ascended, but haven’t run any dungeons in a couple of months while grinding out the Legendary.
Thanks for advice.
I think Bloodstone Shard, Phil Stones and Crystals are Soulbound, and so is the Precursor if you equip it. Beyond that, everything is Account Bound – clovers, gifts etc.
This is from personal experience but I haven’t finished the weapon yet so it’s not exhaustive.
I just put 110 Mystic Coins into that cursed Toilet and got 20 Clovers in return. What? Grind? GW2? Never…. But still I return. :P
Use the 10-clover recipe. The rate is much higher.
I’m on my fourth 77-clover set and I usually use about 150 mystic coins.
It’s really not – you just got lucky. Congrats! If you look at a much larger sample size, you will see the success rates for both recipes are around 30%:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Clover/Drop_rate
I used the single recipe for my 77 clovers and got 29-30% success, as predicted.
I do think the manipulation of precursor prices should be stopped since it is ruining the game for some people. I got my shield precursor in December for 190G, and had seen it gradually increase in price on the TP since then, going up to 330G. However, in the last 2 days it has shot up to 495G.
http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/29177
I think someone rich bought the whole supply (6 shields) and has simply relisted them 2-3 at a time, for a 150G premium each. That is not nice and it should not be allowed.
This is one of the things that FFXI got right in a big way. It is played in Japan, US, and Europe (UK, Germany and France) as well as other countries. The game contains an autotranslator with hundreds of words and phrases in English, Japanese, French and German. Players just enter the tag for translation from one language to another, and the game takes care of it.
GW2 would benefit from a similar system – especially WvWvW on the higher tier servers since they use 24/7 coverage involving guilds from many different timezones.
(edited by Midnightjade.3520)
My Legendary needs 250 of these, twice ie 500! Same with ectos. Why are the same ingredients repeated for different Gifts for the same weapon?
Doesn’t make any sense. Either increase supply or specify another ingredient.
Thank you for reporting this! We’re working on this now.
You’re most welcome, thank you for working to fix the problem!
In the interim, may I suggest adding a message when players try to log in to Wv3, to the effect that there is an ongoing issue with the queue system and you are on the case.
This will help a lot – atm players are confused as to what is going on. Thanks!
We’re aware of the bug with queuing and are working on a fix.
Please put up an error message that tells players you are working on a fix!
I had to come here to figure out what is going on. Communicate with the playerbase!
Hello,
The Wv3 queue system was broken by today’s update. It is not currently available, and attempting to port to Wv3 zones results in an error. It is being discussed widely in Lions Arch on my server and I expect more widely.
I checked 5 pages back and did not see this reported but it is such a big bug I expect the developers are probably aware of it already. Just in case, I am reporting it.
Le pics for le workers?
This! I want to see it!
^ This please! And include an Asura. I’m getting withdrawal symptoms.
I’m almost done with mine, and think the way I play will change afterwards. I haven’t finished the main storyline of the game, and I want to do more Wv3.
I don’t think I’ll play less, but it will be a lot more relaxed. Right now I haven’t missed a daily in about 6 weeks – that will certainly change.
I have an alt called Cat Gif. She likes asking people if they haz cheezburgers.
I am on JQ and can confirm that the WvWvW setup on the server is well-organized, well-attended and committed, in all timezones including SEA. It is the best I have seen.
What strikes me most is the attention to detail. The guilds and commanders on JQ coordinate operations in ways that I have not seen on other servers. If you currently have scouts on JQ you will see this for yourself.
Does anyone on JQ play for the fights? Or just to win? Serious question.
Don’t you have to fight to win? Serious…
Well if you consider a zerg killing 10 people a “fight”. Then I know where you stand.
If you want small scale battles you could spvp. Or go out there and recruit more guilds for your TZ. But in reply to your question, There’s nothing more fun than running around in a large zerg steam rolling everything in its path. Call it what you will, fight/slaughter whatever.
I think everyone who play’s any game will play to win. If you dont then you need to re-evaluate your outlook.Serious.
Ok, so if this is what the majority of JQ feels, then I know where you stand.
I like good fights as in something that can and does fight back and may even come close to or does beat me. Thats what I call fun. Thats what I call a fight.
And of course I play to win the fight, I guess I should’ve asked, do you more care about winning the overall match, or the battles. Screw overall because that’s just a coverage game on who has more people in a 24/hour time frame.
A few people on the forum is not a majority. Are you also implying that nobody gives JQ a good fight? I get plenty of good fights the small slaughter’s in between are just a loot bag bonus. The ‘good fights’ we get between JQ-SoR-BG usually happen around NA prime everything between is what it is.
You’re obviously mad about getting rolled over by large zergs, all I can say is welcome to WvW, it happens no matter what server you are on. Win or lose WvW is all about big numbers. Fights are fun, winning is the cherry on the cake.
But what I love most about my server is the community. JQ is just a great place to be.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be never so vile. This day shall gentle his condition. And gentlemen (and ladies) in Lions Arch now abed shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that fought with us in the mists.
I dispute this. Getting people to hold my manhood is definitely not cheap, in fact it’s really expensive.
And yes I am a Guardian Main.
Just had a great 1v1 with a guardian from KnT in EB. Let him know I had fun was great fight and hope he saw the /bow after the fight. hammer/GS guardians 1v1 was pretty funny.

A great suggestion here earlier regarding the FPS was to make it have trails. Not foot trails, but an aura trail of flying pages from the book. It would have that blue ghostly aura.
Actually, that sounds awesome – much better than my suggestion.
I hope one of the dev team goes after this idea for the FSP – would look really nice.
The Flameseeker Prophecies could use more effects. Right now it just glows and the pages flip around. Given it’s a Legendary with a heavy Lore component, it could use some more pop.
Maybe have footsteps leave runes while it is equipped?
Anets response is to delete all the posts they can about it and attempt to cover up just how bad it is. I guess I could always go play on another server and do the same. So is it correct that this is not a bannable offense?
It’s definitely griefing and as such should be grounds for account termination.
Alternatively, could just bend the culprit over and put one of those siege engines to best use. He who lives by the flame ram, dies by the flame ram.
You Dont use lvl 400 mats for Leveling crafting
Yeah, when doing Legendary you can use the mats you find during World Completion to level the crafts required, without sacrificing any of the T6 mats you’ll need to complete other Gifts.
I just finished World Completion last week, as part of Legendary. I then needed to get WvWvW badges, and so started two Asura Alts for jumping puzzles. The Legendary needs Tailoring and Weaponsmiting at 400, and I was able to level each Alt to 400 in one of those pretty much with what I had gathered during World Completion and from 3 months of Dailies, in the process getting them to level 15 with about 11 skill points each (important for Clovers).
I’m now leveling both of them and another Alt to 400 in Cooking to get extra SP for clovers (I’m 15-20 short). This has cost about 2G each.
In addition, my main is at 300 Armorsmithing, and has been leveling it on and off since launch. Since I only work on it when I have the mats, it’s been free by and large. The last 100 point would cost about 2G – I still have around 250 mithril ore and 250 bolts of silk. I’m going to leave it until Legendary is done.
I guess the point of this post is to say that the cost of crafting depends on when you start. If you’re doing it as part of Legendary, I’d leave it until World Completion is finished.

EBJP is really high traffic – not a good idea at all.
I’d really like to see a GvG area placed aside and would watch matches. Right now I can contribute to WvWvW via zerg or siege, but in a small numbers or especially 1v1 situation, I really suck. Would love to get better.
BG and SOR going at it!
Next week all three servers should take the WuvWuv maps on Spring Break, and spend the whole week drinking and partying.
At the end of the week, each server would have a WuvWuv score of zero, but many many notches on the bedpost. :P
My “Insert name of the server here” Is the best at NA.
My “Insert name of the server here” is better than urs.
My “Insert name of the server here” wipe ur zerg all night.
Its the only thing u read in the past 17 pages xD
18 pages now. But otherwise, yep.
Less trolling prz people.
I did World Completion last week while I was off work sick for two days. It was a good distraction.
Pretty much what the other posters said – just chip away at it. Log on and run with the zerg to start. Listen to what the commanders are saying in chat. Keep an eye on the maps and if an objective you need opens up, grab it.
By the time I went back to work, I had only two points of interest and a vista left. They were the Blue Keep and associated areas in EB. I could have waited but they rarely change hands and my server has been Green for weeks on end, so I decided to server transfer for a week to finish things up. Going back on Thursday.
Hope this helps, good luck!
All i can say is “WHAT?”
I think he’s trying to communicate with us, but can’t be sure…
I’ve summarized it a bit for the laymen:
jq convertingto muchless men of leader events have you passing out chastise to their fights the people thatthnk dynamic in itself finds gems thru fear of guilds have tower for engaging the manuals
… does that make more sense?
Did someone just stick a skewer in my ear… ?
Whatever you do, do not farm lodestones or t6 mats directly.
^This. There are a million more efficient ways to get these than farming them directly. Doing so is a recipe for /wrists and woe.
If you get some while doing other parts of the Legendary it’s all good, but don’t try to farm them all.
I got precursor first. Once you have it, you know the only thing stopping you from completing is work and time.
A few other things – eg farming for precursor and making clovers, and world completion, will generate lots of mats which you will need for leveling crafts for gifts, and also the T6 mats you will need directly. So it makes sense to do those early, to mimimize cost later.
Good luck.
I am working on Flameseeker Prophecies. I have:
Precursor
World Completion
37/77 clovers, plus 160 Obsidian Shards and another 250,000 karma.
Bloodstone Shard
100 Icy Runestones
264/500 Ascalonian Tears
200/500 Badges (got them in a week)
Tailoring 400
Weaponsmithing 400
Will complete the clovers this week, then Badges and Tears. Finally, the remaining T6 mats and lodestones. I have decent gold, so those last should not be so bad.
Been working at it for 3 months. Another 1-2 and I’ll be done.
I didn’t use any of my mains skill points for the clovers. I just made an alt, ran him to the crafting station, leveled him with cooking (this gets you to level 15 btw, which nets you 11 skill points), used the skill points for clovers, deleted him, repeat. Whole process took about about 15 minutes once I got it down. If you got extra gold it’s the easiest way to “buy” skill points.
In fact, I am using a variant of this. I leveled two alts (asuran mesmers) to 400 in tailoring and weaponsmithing, which are required for my Legendary (shield). This got them both to level 15, and around 11 SP each. Then, I have started running them both around the starter zones, which have about 7-8 SP per zone. That gives a total of about 45 SP per mule, which is enough to finish the Legendary.
This is easier if you have a printed map of the relevant zones. I run one of the mules around a zone, then go back and run the other around the same zone while it is still fresh in my mind.
I am finding this is an efficient way to do things, and it is fun and cheap (it actually makes money from drops). Plus, I also use both mules for Jumping Puzzles for Wv3 badges each day. In addition, once the Legendary is done I’m going to use one of them as my next character to 80.
Anything by Motorhead. But especially this:
Be nice to get a set number of badges per day for supporting your side beyond fighting/zerging. Maintaining supply lines, capturing and holding supply camps, setting up siege without depleting supply below a certain level. Each could give up to maybe 5-10 badges daily.
This would encourage folks to learn about building infrastructure to capture and hold territory. Right now the only non-combat way to earn badges is to complete jumping puzzles, which teach players nothing about Wv3 mechanics.

Staff guardian in a big zerg.
I run a staff on my Guardian but tend to switch to hammer when hitting the enemy. How do you maximize tagging with the staff?
Thanks!
Pop a fat staff 3 symbol in the middle of a group of bunched up unsuspectings, as they scatter staff 1 them all and cackle maniacally as loot rains upon your head so long as the zerg is helping to mop. Got around 15 bags in about 1 minute during a SM defense this week doing that. Bonus fun to corral them into an area with line + ring or warding and staff, staff, staff away.
Great, thanks. I will try it!

You can put siege (eg arrow cart) on the inner lip of a battlement, at a corner point. It’s very hard/impossible for attackers to hit it when it’s well placed, but you can still hit them. A well placed cart can hold a fort against a medium sized group for quite a while – easily long enough for you to call in the cavalry zerg to scatter them.
Hope this helps.
Level an alt, is probably fastest I get a ton of levels from WvW when theres constant fighting if you’re on a server with an active WvW.
Yeah, I do quite a lot of Wv3 at the moment and like it a lot. I’m on JQ usually but have bounced back and forth to BG a time or two with my guild. As you know since you are in [Choo], both servers are very active and are in the same tier, with a great rivalry, and I have fought on both sides, haha! And have fought SoR as well from both servers!
I think I’ll finish everything else and then level an alt as you suggest. Thanks!
(edited by Midnightjade.3520)
Hi All,
I am working on a Legendary, and have just finished World Completion, and also have Bloodstone Shard and 37/77 Clovers, plus another 260 Obsidian Shards. I’m now working to complete Clovers and Shards (need around another 250,000 more karma), and Wv3 Badges (I currently have 150/500) and dungeon tokens (I have 260/500).
My math suggests I’m going to be short about 30-40 Skill Points that I need to complete the Clovers, by the time I get everything else done. What’s the fastest way to make up the difference – just level an alt? That would be fine – I have an itch to level a Mesmer (current main is a Guardian).
Thanks for advice!
Biggest differences I’ve seen in ppt are during EURO primetime, when it has been up to 450ppt for JQ. I don’t think that’s all EURO activity though – some of the JQ SEA guilds go to bed REALLY late. :P
BG has a great presence in NA prime – they were certainly rolling last night! It’s the SEA and especially EURO prime gap that’s holding them back from the win right now.
Good stuff this week – I had a lot of fun and was able to get 100% map completion as well. Thanks everyone.
Yes, the 4 on Claw Island count towards map completion.
The 2 newest waypoints are…
NW corner of Brisban Wildlands
SW corner of Plains of AshfordHere’s a chart for you to use to make sure that you’re completely covered…
I obtained 100% Map Completion last night and received the rewards and title.
To clarify, I now know that you DO NOT need the 4 POI on Claw Island to complete the map. I have not reached the point in the Personal Storyline where you go there – wanted to finish my Legendary first.
I hope this helps some folks – I know it confused me but I now have the correct answer.
I’ve used PVT+Healing Guardian to stay alive. It means you can run through a crowd in PvE and live, or stay upright in Wv3. It also means you get to tank a lot of stuff in dungeons. But the downside is that damage output gets reduced.
Bunker Guardian plus mace/shield is kind of an immovable rock. Killing anything big takes a while though. :P
Yeah, most Guardian players hate the scepter. It’s not very good, but it’s really our only ranged option.
This x10. It’s a poor ranged weapon on guardian but we don’t have anything better. I start with this while closing, then switch to hammer or GS, or to mace/shield if in a group.
In Wv3, Chains of Light can slow an enemy down if they’re making a break for it, and then you switch to hammer and pound them down.
