Great fun in VZ borderlands this night. Intense fights every 50 yards all over the map. Special thanks for the new guys (randoms) that joined our TS and kept us company in the small hours.
While i see the good intentions, I can’t help but feel changes like this is like having a referee allowing the opposite team using their hands within the penelty zone in soccer.
My biggest gripe is the frequency of the event. But I guess we’ll just leave that last tower alone, problem solved.
He is not meant to win the war for you when enemy players are around, but to get you a foothold during/after nightcapping hours. During primetime, you just have to do it the old fashioned way.
Nice fights so far.
And why is SFR winning? Simple they got the biggest armies. And they all have hardcore wvw professions (thief, bunker warrior, bunker ele, bunker guard, pet tank ranger, all the usual ‘i wan’t the easiest profession to kill ppl in wvw’ choices). And SFR has the same playstyle as vizunah. “Always move in a zerg”.
As opposed to everyone else that just randomly stuff skills into the skillbar, pick up a bundle plank as a weapon and don’t consider talents? This is more an insult to your fellow team mates.
I played this saturday on SFR BL. We were 3-4 commanders coming to a map under heavy pressure from both sides. Each commander had about 10-15 players each. We spread out, communicated during the whole day, and wadda ya know. We took the entire map and got some good training against the Breakout Event from both sides.
No zergs, no nightcappers, on saturday day time when most are off work.
Granted, I did enjoy the fights against Xaoc and XT are quickly becoming my favorite opposition.
I’m fine with portals, its just that there should be a more valid defense against them. Someone once suggested that only 5 could enter every other second or so, the ability to block it for a few seconds with Ring of Warding, etc. Or the more drastic, and less fun, way of having a requirement of an actual physical pathway between the two portals. Give it a standstill casting. There are loads of options other than simply limit it to 5 people.
Erm… PRX is part of the Seafarer’s Rest Community, so it does concern us. Nobody picks on our guilds but us!
The nerfs are in PvP though, to which, WvW does not count.
Seriously, who cares?
The “it’s how you play the game” has always been a second place statement.
We are winning, we abide by all the rules of the game. We don’t need loot rewards, or monetary gain. We simply hate to loose and that’s what brought SFR to it’s current state.
So, drop the excuses and step up your own game. Have a community meeting, recruit or whatever is necessary but don’t blame it on us.
As someone said, its a 24 hour game with 4×166 players. No one in their right mind would enter a football (soccer for our US friends) match with 9 players on the field and only play for 67 minutes and then blame the other team for losing.
Hey there.
Had some lovely fights against XT (I think) on SFR BL today. When the battlefield is as calm as it was, its nice to have these smaller (10-15 on each side) open field skrimishes.
However, this endless talk that we only zerg or only nightcap is simply not true. Granted, we have some huge guilds that do this very well, but for every zerg-roaming-keep-capping guild, there’s 3 smaller roaming ones. Nightcapping has never, ever been our strong suite. We got to T1 with only a handful night players.
As for PRX, they seem to be a friendly bunch, that wants to be part of the community (unlike some other winwagoning guilds) and work together as a team.
See ya on SFR BL all week.
PS: Bring some friends, you may need it.
I can only speak as a guardian. Having played said class since launch, I feel it has several really good meta builds, hence giving it variation in playstyle. I mess around with new weapon combos every other week or so, only to find something new and useful.
I will, however, say that at launch there were guardians and warriors all over the place. Then everyone rerolled a ranged class to be useful during sieges and defense, and now people are figuring out how to be effective in other ways.
HB warriors? Snare and dodge/run to ranged usually does the trick, not to mention they are the weekest class against conditions.
Personally I made the biggest most ripped norn female I could find and then stuck her into the bulkiest piece of armor in the game. That’s attractive!
I would strongly recommend Desolation. They always offer a good fight, just lack numbers.
That wasn’t my question really. I’m sorry if that’s how I came across. I’m merely wondering what to expect out of GW2. A fair question I think, if a player is gonna invest hundreds of hours into a game. Will they focus on PvE, WvW, PvP or all of the above?
Now, if that’s to my liking is another question.
As for more PvP modes, I bellieve the custom arenas are gonna be something like that.
Thanks!
That video was very informative, and I’m looking forward to the new pvp content.
Is there any information about the WvW additions?
Hello there.
As of late I’ve found myself playing less and less. After giving this some serious thought, I came to the conclusion that it’s, in fact, not the lack of things to do but rather the choice of what to do.
ArenaNet had a solid fondation (imo) at launch to build whatever game they wanted. However, there seems to be mixed messages here.
To date, the following has been implemented:
PvE
Two major events.
New map.
New dungeon.
New item sets.
Fixes.
WvW
Fixes.
PvP
New map.
Fixes.
With these updates in mind, it seems that GW2 is taking the route towards the “raid” approach. However, ArenaNet consistently talks about how they want GW2 to be an e-sport and that the endgame is WvW. This, to me, seems a bit ambivallent.
My point is, that I just want to know what vision ArenaNet have for GW2. What will this game be in a year?
This is basicly so I can play my gametime accordingly and focus on what is (and will be) relevant to the long term game situation.
I want serious answers, and not oppinions on what people prefer. Just straight up facts of where ArenaNet is taking GW2.
Thank you.
Why don’t they just recycle some of the old GW1 Paragon Spear skills. Quite a few of them go along with a Guardian style of play.
Hell yes! I would love to get the paragon animation, with the magical angelic wings when casting, on my guardian. The Anthems, Recitations and Ballads all fit the guardian imo.
I’ll admit, as an old GW1 player, I raged over the introduction of ascended gear.
However, as someone pointed out, its not the ascended gear in and of itself but how it has fragmented my guild and the community.
Guilds and friends are split into different levels of fractals, preventing them to play together.
Now I know you can play at lower levels with your friends, but once you’ve climbed to level 20 or so, fractals looses all its fun. This leaves players to only doing the bare necessity, which is their current level.
Not really, since the collition detection is rather poor in GW2. Projectiles go through bunker builds and hit the ranged players and so on. Area denial and barriers are more important than “formations”.
I am keeping you from getting free sieges, and also because I’m doing something the WvW players on your server would’ve like to do to you since you’re essentially being a dead weight and taking up a queue spot that your server could’ve used to get another WvW player in.
Can you explain your psychological reasoning for doing WvW jumping puzzles at the expense of your server’s interests?
PvE players are FORCED by ANet to be in W3 in order to complete the Jumping Puzzles and their World Completion.
Maybe you should be championing the removal of the Jumping Puzzles and the World Completion points from W3 so the “dead weight” PvE players stay out of W3.
Really? Who deemed PvE to be the supreme content?
Last time I checked the vast majority of the world completion points where in PvE content areas. You are forced to play 4 maps in WvW, which you can easily complete at night or friday before reset (provided it means so much to you).
Now, all of us who enjoy WvW and don’t think PvE is particularly fun are literrally forced to level in PvE, get our equipment in PvE and complete like 85% of world completion in PvE. Yet, we suck it up and do it.
Take your complaints to some other part of the forum where someone cares.
Thanks for a great game last week Deso and welcome to T2 Baruch Bay.
Let’s keep the good fights going for another week.
Depends I guess. Teleport with an AoE blind is a pretty good utility.
As for the guardian, try out the Sword/Torch if DPS is what you’re going for. In PvP I would never let go of my hammer.
The zerg is obviously very important and (often) key to capturing keeps or heavily fortified towers. What most people forget though, is that everything matters. A roaming group of 3-10 is instrumental at preventing a siege or defense to reinforce. Picking of dolyaks for hours deny the opposition a lot of points, not to mention straining their supply for future players.
Which brings me to the gamelengths.
The battles lasts for a week. I usually log on late at night and face dire odds. I simply abandon the notion of capturing any keeps, but focus on supply raids and loosing points as slowly as possible. All to make it easier for our morning crew.
I think a lot of people are fixated on the idea of conquering keeps is the shiz. It is, ofcourse, important but not the only thing needed in order to win.
I can understand you’re feeling upset Elvis, but try to look at it from a different light. You want to perform a task that grants you, and your server, weaponry to destroy the other teams key points. Ofcourse it will be defended. If you, however, are hellbent on completing it, fridays are usually fairly calm.
About you having to play WvW to complete your legendary is no way close to the amount of PvE the “other” side have to do in order to complete theirs.
I see a lot of people wanting to remove the AoE cap of 5, as if this would magically solve everything.
Imagine a “blob” of 30 people, with me (guardian) in it. % enemy players drop their AoE that will hit all of those 30. Naturally I will pop my “Stand Your Ground”, giving retaliation to the entire blob. Those 5 AoE’rs will go down in a matter of seconds, same as before.
Or, is the AoE cap just gonna be removed for damaging abilities, in which case it seems a bit biased towards casters and rangers.
Krookie, I am in no way advocating that this game become WoW. And guess what, neither is Arenanet. Vertical Progression is not a WoW concept, it is a concept that has existed as long as gaming has existed, even back to DnD and pong derivatives. That people are assuming the game is “going to become WoW” simply because it derivated in one way from GW1 is just silly.
There are a lot of concepts that have stuck with MMO’s for a long time. Such as subscription fees.
Just because its old doesn’t make it right.
I had the pleasure of working the entire weekend of Lost Shores only to get back to “LFG FotM level 10”.
It’s been said time and time again. The JP is a resource node that provides free siege. Ofc we will defend it and actively prevent the enemy from getting their hands on weaponry that -will- be used against us.
While I agree to keep it mature, I really don’t mind a little trashtalk or the occasional taunt. It’s part of the competative nature and builds up the necessary spirit to really wanna fight the opposing servers.
Anger and being generally pissed off is fine, whining is not as cool.
What surprises me is that so many complain about camping. When you have a force attacking a keep, a vital part is to disrupt reinforcements. This is especially true when it comes to Riversiders as you are very good at defending.
Keep up the fight and don’t give up. We love to hate Riverside! So do us a favor and stick around.
If you’re into WvW and play on non-peak hours, you’re welcome to join The Civil Rebels [RiOT]. We’re an international guild with players from NA/EU and Asia, that leave the zerging to our larger allied guilds and focus on small intimate battles and harrassing.

This is sad.
Last week we on Seafarer’s had some epic battles with Kodash. In the end it was with less than a 30k lead we won. Kodash came second and Augury Rock did not measure up. I was looking forward to fight Kodash again, but this time have Far Shiverpeaks or something into the mix.
Instead, we get stuck with the looser of T2 and the winner of T3. To be perfectly honest, we don’t belong there.
My question is: With this rankingsystem, will consistensy and even games be something exclusively for T1 or will the it keep matchin servers over a 3-4 tier span?
You can also contact me.

I usually play around 10pm – 3am CET and spend most of that time in WvW. Or you can pm me here.
OP stated though, that his last transfer was a few days ago, meaning before the 7-day lockout was in effect.
It is truly amazing how well we have done, considering we “only” have a medium population.
Good job to all of you.
