@Nekroseth
Yeah, I agree bare hands would be tricky to do. You could add in some martial arts move to the thief but scholars would have it rough. Perhaps it could be them just casting spells with their hands. Nonetheless, abilities that had no weapons would have to appear as if they was effective against a variety of foes.

@Sjach Darasv
Detracting from players wanting/needing an off-hand or two hand wouldn’t really be an issue. It’s more options and it’s hard to go wrong there (unless you’re the one that’s gonna have to program and balance it).

Speaking of Thief, they ALREADY had a special 3rd ability if they have no off-hand weapon. Just make the last two abilities something that is weaponless; grab, throw, punch, kick, etc.

I thought they should add a Long Sword that functions like that or even a crossbow would work for either 2h or just offhand.

Don’t know about daggers and such. Would be cool if they could add 2 weaponless skills like a kick, punch or defensive ability that would be automatically placed in when you have no off-hand.

Heck, they could even give you 5 abilities that you use without any weapons equip.

Dynamic Event Challenges: Players vs Monster Players

in Suggestions

Posted by: Mojo.2691

Mojo.2691

What if some Dynamic Events allowed some players to play against each other?

After a beginning stage of an event participating players will get a prompt to play as a Centaur, Dredge, Ettin, Grawl, Hylek, Krait, Minotaur, Quaggan, Skritt, or whatever the opposing force is. This would be Players versus Monster Play and could make for some interesting battles

This could possibly make the Dynamic Events even more dynamic and add in a light form of PvP into the world. There is no limits to this idea and it has tons of room for balancing issues and reward gains.

Has this been suggested? What do you think?

Heh, you call those odd? They are NEEDED!

I’d pay for new animations, dances, faces, styles, artworks and such.

Don’t you dare call these odd again!

YEAH, I’m with you! These are needed features and ones they’ve probably already planned on.

These items should be priced as if you exchanged 5-10 gold into gem currency. Get players in the online store and looking around. We need smaller things to spend our money on; little is the new BIG.

I like Bastion ’s Blood Stones. Ways to reach friends faster is always good.

I agree with Omnia Wind, we do need more emotes and dances. I would hope these are already on anet’s ‘to do’ list. Swagman had a good idea with interactive emotes.

Login Backgrounds would totally rock! An inexpensive item in the store would help to generate revenue.

Login Backgrounds would be what you see when you click on your character. Instead of that white city background wouldn’t it be cool to pick what you want? After deciding your location, then you could pick your character’s position (holding weapon, etc). These are like little statues before we log in and they are underestimated.

  • Animated to loop
  • Cool background
  • Your Character

I want to start a general discussion on what odd features you want to see added to Guild Wars 2 in the future.

For me:

Player Login Backgrounds Profession, Racial or Level based (Mesmer shopped example ). These could be starting cities, adventure or even comedic sequences that could be made monthly and added to the store.

Spell Theme Addons Change Mesemer’s butterflies to birds or Elemental’s fire to blue. Add new animations to abilities; eg. Thief’s Pistol Whip would be a real Whip ani, w/same timing and hitbox as original.

New “Swagger” Walk for the Sylvari I know they are related to trees but do they have to walk like it? Other walking effects would be great for all races (crippled would look sweet with a cane and speed up a little bit).

What are your strange and fluffy wants from GW2?

The Ele could use a little love. IMO switching to an attunement should give you a temporary shield that helps mitigate damage (in addition to their aura). Although you could put it in their skills or builds it just feels like they could use a defensive passive for all their weapon choices that would add to survivability.

Yeah, I figured it would give players some trait points to work with. They would still use their PvE gear and up level to 80 – but the trait points would be unique to WvW. WvW and PvE specs don’t always match, why not give a second spec whilst doing it?

Those people who have a lvl 2 Thief with a Glory rank of 80 (which is really really hard to get) wouldn’t be handicapped as much with the extra trait points. WvW is a type of PvP and should somehow reflect the Glory rank as well.

sPvP Gear on Login
I was wondering if it has been suggested that if you log out in the Heart of the Mists, you will be in your sPvP gear at character login.

WvW is another form of PvP
Would it be wrong to ask that if your Glory Rank was higher than your PvE Level, then you will have Trait Points equal to that of your Glory Rank to spend while in WvW.

Does anyone have an update on these ideas or would like to voice your opinions?

This is very true also of my first successful AC experience… after several failed wipe fests when we fought the “Romulo & Juliet” (snicker) encounter we were only successful because the waypoint was close enough to have a couple of people die, and then run back in to rejoin the fight.

…never underestimate the power of the boulders.

Slightly off-topic, but still very close to this subject, I’m wondering who else feels like you should be able to have the option to display both weapons on your character?
I realize that everything a character carries cannot be shown, but it IS easy enough to program the visuals for seeing both weapons you’re carrying, as well as perhaps a quiver for when bows are equipped. Just kinda funny seeing my Greatsword or Longbow disappear entirely; also, I fabricate arrows out of thin air haha.
This would also lend tactical information to players in PvP, about what sort of skills another player could counter their abilities with.
Again, I realize that everything cannot be shown visually (or everyone would be running around carrying huge back-packs; well, Engineer’s DO do that, I suppose), but it would be nice to at least see your weapons as well as things such as quivers for bow-wielding individuals.
Lastly, I’m 100% supportive of this sort of feature being optional, such as a simple option box to check/un-check in the General Options, for example.

Perhaps, seems like a fluff issue for the future. It would be cool to see all the weapons you have equipped rather than having them vanish.

It's expensive to play with low-level friends.

Mojo.2691

I have to agree with the OP and it’s not just a problem when leveling with low level friends, but a problem in general. The waypoints were put in there so we don’t have to run around so much, and touted as a great way to quickly get across the map instead of spending several minutes in flight or on a mount like in other MMO’s. It needs to be an affordable convenience, based on distance traveled, not my level. You don’t create systems like that and then tell people to walk instead. They have map completion achievements and other ways to incentivize exploring (and I do find it fun). But if I’ve already seen the place and just want to get somewhere fast, I’d just like it to be cheaper.

You brought up a good suggestion. I would agree that Waypoint price might work better depending on the distance traveled moreso than level.

Or if they do keep it by level, they should at least price it according to what level you are downgraded to (while traveling within a zone). If you’re not getting the luxury of your higher levels then you shouldn’t be expected to pay the prices.

Yes there are better ways to run an instance which shave off time and deaths, but the point im getting at is that zerging with a pug group shouldnt be rewarding at all. Dungeons should require strategy to work, but the way this game is set up disallows that, because of the waypoints right next to the bosses. Yeah im all for doing strategies and what not to do a dungeon but right now in its current state, dungeons in guildwars 2 require 0 strategy to complete which gives people no joy of achievement when they finish it.
A random pug group in arah (with 0 experience) shouldnt be able to just zerg through it.

So you’re saying that people who are new to game and learning how everything fits together shouldn’t be rewarded whatsoever for their effort? How many people do you think would do the dungeons in the first place.

The rewards you do get isn’t that great and don’t forget the repair bill for waypoint killing a boss… what reward are people getting that is making you feel so cheated?

Dude, I searched before I created my thread but didn’t find yours! Anyways, the weapons I’d like to see added would be;

Melee

  • Rapier – Main Hand Only
  • Great Axe – Two Handed Weapon
  • Long Sword – Main Hand or Two Handed Weapon (even if you equip an off-hand weapon, due to it’s size the 5th ability would still be associated to the long sword)
  • Polearm/Halberd – Main Hand or Two Handed Weapon (perhaps the off-hand could be limited to a shield but it would have similar mechanics as a one handed long sword)
  • Kite Shield – Off Hand Only (another type of shield would be neat)

Ranged

  • Wand – Main Hand Only (alternative ranged weapon for scholar professions)
  • Crossbow – Two Hand or Off Hand (could equip in main slot for a two handed weapon or use with another one handed weapon in the off-hand slot)

Underwater

  • One handed swords, axes and daggers could still be used underwater. I can understand why the great sword or hammer wouldn’t be too effective but we could use a little more diversity beneath the waves (duel wielding options would be nifty as well).

EDIT IN: Some awesome responses in this thread. I’d like to add that whips, fist weapons, and scythes are great suggestions.

I’m agreeing with you mouse. As much as I’d like to play with my friends, I’d much rather not have to deal with pub-stomping premades.

We still have fun though, even if we have to fight each other… sometimes it’s fun to kill your friends. We are wanting to plan a guild event in which we’ll find an empty room, fill it up with guildies and kill each other while on vent. Gooood times man.

I think they should leave in team balancing, but it should automatically disable after a team has reached 400 points.

That’s a good solution. Either that or move the ppl who have the least amount of points to the other team.

I added a new section for general Guild Wars 2 wallpapers and updated it with blank profession backgrounds from character creation that players could add in their character. I’m working on some cool icons for the professions and will be updating as soon as they are ready.

Will I ever get new weapon skills later in the game?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mojo.2691

Mojo.2691

May be hard to do but I’d like to see a “special-uber” weapon (in the future) that would change out some of the abilities for the different professions.

All the professions have various abilities that transform them and gives a new set of skills. Also elementalists can summon bows, axes and swords they can use that totally changes the playstyle and also gives a whole other set of skills. Of course these have a duration, and none of them exceeds 2 minutes.

That’s the closest you can get right now. Oh, and the interesting effects on the legendaries that can really change your playstyle.

Yeah, that’s kind of what I was thinking. The Ele’s flame sword is neat – would be cool to have a ‘legendary greatsword’ that shot flames for the first ability but retained all the other greatsword abilities for the professions.

Tank/Healer: Back to the Trinity?

I thought there was no trinity but now people are looking for tanks and healers. Which profs are considered a tank or healer? I tried spec’n out a elementist w/all +healing and I don’t see how they would make a tremendous difference.

I know dungeons are hard but how do you tank without aggro management or taunts? I figured everyone would just have to invest in some toughness and use defensive abilities rather than reverting back to the old trinity.

What’s the thought man?
