This is what I have been hearing lately: ‘No! Taunt is terrible and will have NO effect on anything and anyone who thinks trinity might come is a fool! No! This is impossible, no way it is happening at all! Options are terrible!’
Oh how open minded people are. They haven’t seen ANYTHING except a brief description with almost no details, and call it garbage. Also people are afraid of options:“This can’t be! It’s the end of the world! Options, there is and always will be only one way.”
Now, I’m not saying I like trinity, but options are good. Without options, it is just as bad as “go do this a couple hours” MMOs, but at least you can fight a different way in those. Yes, you NEED some things, but EVERYONE in a group doing the same thing, different details… I can understand one to three dmg dealers, but Anet, you have made yourself diverse in quests and so on, but pls bring some diversity and equality to builds for all modes. I know you have been working on this, and I acknowledge it, but this needs to be fixed sometime. This being said, I have confidence this is in the “challenging content” including some of these balances.

People have been complaining about no gvg, and they want a structured fighting system. If the “name of the game” is really “guild wars”, they should make guild WARS. I’m not asking for another gvg battle system, but rather guilds own territory, and fight other guilds to keep it. Having specific castles throughout the world, with their bonuses to keep would increase the meaning to be a guild, and fulfill the name of the game.
Pls leave comments.

So the mega guilds who recruit as many people as humanly possible will just be able to zerg everyone else off the map?

You get a big no from me. There would be no way to keep it an even playing field. How could a guild of 50 people possibly compete against a guild with 500 people.

You forget I don’t balance the game, and maybe their will be limits and alliances. I was thinking more lineage 2 style castle siege system

Alright, let’s say taunt is completely useless(doubt it) in PvE. You completely overlooked PvP and WvW. In PvP, taunt will DESTROY dps builds that don’t have a counter as they will fire random attacks at the taunter and mess up ranger lb, warrior hammer, engi stun, Mesmer, etc.

Slow: or how Anet screws over PvE

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Moo.3408

Moo.3408

Slow is a wonderful condition that will be spectacular for pushing Anet’s esports agenda, however it is doomed to be a disaster in PvE unless all over PvE is getting an overhaul.

The problem since launch with PvE is that enemies have big, strong, slow attacks. This means active defenses reign supreme, zerker dominates builds, only DPS matters, and confusion is useless in PvE. You just burst down the enemies and dodge the occasional attack they dish out (if they live long enough to actually attack)

So Anet’s solution to this is to AMPLIFY the problem with a new condition… what is the reasoning here outside of esports?

Please either announce that all of PvE is getting an overhaul or that this is an early april’s fool joke…

I believe there is a good chance that PVE AI is changing and the mechanics of fights are also changing.

Mobs likely will attack in packs for large scale PvE, and this slow condition will be more useful for those large adds packs that will be sent to attack you and your allies during a big battle.

1v1 it won’t have as big of an effect.

Yes to most of it, but if it is like quickness(+50%), it will be perilous to fight 1v1(-50%). I’m suspecting Mesmer gets a lot of it(time stasis opposite of time warp)

I already experienced a “Guild War” system in a game known as Ether Saga Odyssey. The guild wars system forced users in those guilds to PVP against the warring guild, regardless if they were in a PVE Channel or not. I would suspect that GW2 would lose a massive amount of players in an instant if that were to come out here.

I agree, you shouldn’t be forced. You could still probably have a lodging, but with no bonus if you don’t participate.

I think death knight will have major chill. Here are some skills I’m expecting:
F1: you gain life force, when ready, consume to heal yourself, and extra goes to allies.
1: chain- Wack your foe, giving chill- wack you foe giving 2sec torment- wack you foe siphoning life and life force
2 stab your foe, immobilizing them and draining life and life force
3 slice twice, first inflicting chill, second life siphoning
4 leap at your foe, chilling and gaining stability
5 block for 2 sec, at end, sweep and gain stability
Heals:?
Utilities
Wraith dagger: does 50 dps (regardless of any traits) and heal equivalently. Lasts for 40sec(regardless of anything). On either persons death, it goes away. Uncureable.
Signet of stability- 25% chance of ignoring any control skills/ when activated, gain stability
Chilling torment- cleave your foe, chilling, tormenting and applying vulnerability.
Elite: transform- nazgul

Suggestion: add Airships

in WvW

Posted by: Moo.3408

Moo.3408

this sounds like a suggestion to make the entire game about airship meta :/ I must decline.

Suppose to be a siege attacking vehicle, not as much defense. Estimate it might take 1-3 minutes for 2 AA cannons to destroy it. While I say this, I see your point. But for it to be effective you need people in the cannons( the bottom ones) and let’s say there is a 30 second lift off, and you can hurt your own gate(possibly), it would be more offensive.

Suggestion: add Airships

in WvW

Posted by: Moo.3408

Moo.3408

This is a great way to make defending worth while. Airships cost 5000 supplies, and you can only have 1 for each keep you control, if at any point you have more airships than keeps, the extra Aship will crash. The Aships must be created in the controlling keep. There are 5 cannons on the right and left, and 5 on the bottom pointing down. (I have no idea what driving system there should be that is entertaining, and usable by players.) they will be high enough so that a treb can’t hit them.
To defend against these, you will need AA guns. You have one per tower, and two per keep(talk to quartermaster for upgrade) the Aship can’t destroy these, so you need ground forces. The AA guns will do MASSIVE damage to these, so think ahead.
To make this more interesting, if they added gliders in wvw, you could board other ships and drop.
You might say dropping troops is OP, and there are 3 ways to controll this:
1. Make Anti-gliding personnel guns
2. Make AA gun have extra high range
3. Limit it to you must build drop ships on Aship
Please give thoughts, questions and opinions, and remember the coast and restrictions.
Edit: maybe stone mist castle gets five AA guns

Honestly other topic was locked before anything was said or worded is the DK word so freakish that people must ban it from all text? The moment i see a guy using necromancy or just any form of black magic and a bladed weapon the first word that comes to mind is antipaladin/death knight/black knight/dark knight/shadowknight or whataver name of a class that fits that theme. Everyone tought it the moment they heard necro got greatsword and weither you like it or not the idea stick like a plague (ahaha the pun). Necromancer behing tanky by default thanks to death shroud doesnt help removing the quite seductive idea either.

A death knight doesnt necesarily needs to wear heavy armor that is a way to single minded judgement. As far as it goes light armor with a good hood in the good oll nazgul thematic fits the character perfectly. I easily see a guy in full orrian wandering around swinging that blade and still having the look of a nazgul dark rider. As far as it goes if the off class runs on abilities wich aims like the warrior stance at making the player more tankish then god sake its a given.

Yah, great idea, give the necro one of the flying dinosaurs, cloak, great-sword and even more fear and you have yourself an unbeatable ring wraith.

I have a really good condi build, so here it is. I set this up for getting recommendations on what builds and how to tone them, I’m open to suggestions.
2/6/0/0/6
Staff and s/d
Heal- consume conditions
Utility- blood is power, signet of spite, epidemic
Elite- 1v1- flesh golem 3v3+ lich or plague, (ranged or melee)
This is a massive bleed and poison build. It would be more helpful(for me) to have a utility instead of elite. I’ve gotten up to 1.1k dps for bleed plus 200 dps with poison.

I think rifle will be VERY powerful, but initiative and casting time insanely decrease the effectivity( think double damage and time kill shot). But, who knows? Could bring in more traps.

I can already see you entering WvW, ready to pwn some noobs with dem stealthy 1337 sniper skillz BAM…
you just received 25K dmg from another sniper. You ded.
Well, another try, maybe sneak out of spawn area on another exit BAM… 25K dmg from somebody you didn’t see. It’s fun ey?
Can’t you see how much fun it is to get oneshot by someone without being able to react?

Whenever I see people wanting this kitten in MMOs, they forget that they are not alone in there. If you want unfair mechanics and advantages, stay in singleplayer games.

Nice crying. Enjoyed reading it a lot, thanks. So why do you think Sniper means beeing able to one shot everybody in their spawn? It’s not like the Devs are braindamaged or that you could climb the mountains around the spawn and so on.
Also people forget LOS. Ranger sometimes already have trouble with LOS with their LB Burst and the only reason they can still be viable with it is because those are multiple shots and he can move around while fireing.
Everything assumed here is that the sniper “oneshot” skill is only one single bullet and you can’t move around while channeling. Now look at the PvP maps. Most of the maps don’t even allow a Killshot to hit properly, why do you think such a sniper skill would be too broken there?
kitten kitten people crying and beeing scared but think only half the way.

the one reason killshot warrior can’t take off is because people can see him coming. he’s out there, staring at you for over a second, and if he misses he has to fill his bar over again and try again in 10 seconds.

thief can’t be seen coming (not if they’re any good). thief doesn’t have to wait for a cooldown to try their strong skill again. thief doesn’t need to fill a special bar again if they mess up the first shot.

there’s a reason thief is subpar at range.

and as for the LoS part, see why power rangers can work on WvW roaming but not on sPvP on my post above. not that you can LoS what you can’t see.

ok, so kill shot is 5k damage right(maybe things changed)? Now add your opponents armor, so maybe 4.5k. Then add possible signets that they have, so maybe 4.1k. Multiply that by two, 8.2 k. That is not a oneshot. By the way, if you haven’t seen, I put an example of power rifle, and then changed to ultra confuse/blind/tp, when people argued to much power. And i also said that it wasn’t intended for one shot, but it has been a whip since I rolled gun warrior.

People are thinking too narrowly. Who says a rifle Thief is going to deal crazy high damage?

Yes, I know, the title of the thread is Thief + Rifle = Sniper. The Thief needs additional ranged damage options (yes, the shortbow is excellent for utility work. It still does crap damage and has lost much of its place in PvE since the butt-ruination of Lotus Poison), but that doesn’t necessarily mean Boom-Headshot all the way.

I can already think of a means by which the Thief could differentiate its rifle from the competition. No Kill Shot-style big-damage attack – do Heart Shot instead. Big init skill (6 comes to mind, but may need adjustment either way) which deals moderate-at-best power damage, but also inflicts a 10-deep stack of Bleed for 3s or whatever turns out to be balanced. A short, very intense Bleed favoring Malice over Power, and configure the rest of the rifle to correspond to that. Suddenly the Rifle isn’t a boom-headshot threat, but is instead a very serious condition threat. Well, in game modes where conditions matter. Still waiting for ArenaNet to give players their own unique instances of various condition stacks on a boss so we can stop losing damage to caps.

Don’t like that notion? A’ight. Go control or support instead. Give the rifle cripples, immobilizes, dazes…basically like P/P except good. Perhaps its calling card could be a big-init knock skill, the first knock the Thief has beyond its utilities.

Who knows? I’d honestly prefer something along the lines of the Heart Shot style myself, simply because it’d be a novel thing to do and a good way to differentiate it from the Warrior’s rifle (Power-based marksman weapon w/very little support in the rest of the class) and the Engineer’s rifle (almost completely nonfunctional as a weapon).

I would love to be able to make a rifle-centric character as I enjoy rifles, and indeed my oldest character in GW2 is a Warrior I’d intended to play as rifle-centric. Unfortunately the Warrior is bad at being a rifle-centric character and the Engineer’s rifle is a schizophrenic joke. Maybe we’ll get it right this time. Third time’s a charm after all, eh?

Maybe it will be blind confusion( high stacked confusion) type. Works well with a hidden sniper. Maybe extra tps and the hide in plain sight for thief. Exp.
Imagine going up to a capture point in PvP. You get hit and are blinded and confused heavily. You waste an attack, then he stealths and tps to another location and this is repeated with different variations.
Also you could have a torment attack so when they try to find you they take extra damage. Also you could get poison from rusty musket balls.

But, considering casting time, and loosing certain skills and unable to move while casting, escape can be limited

My point is, we both know that. History has shown that if the required skill cap for entry is raised with crap like this, the Joe Average™ will not stay in PvP. I partake in these discussions to voice my concern over suggested breaking changes. I’m a strong proponent of PvP, and while I have to admit the current balance is far from ideal, it’s still the best we have. I don’t want stirring of the pot, especially not in a way that is potentially one-sided and drives away people from the queues.

Implementing stuff like this is rife for abuse, and we both know that’s exactly what would happen. You can see the results of optimism and “…but it has a cast time and [insert your favorite here]..” only leads to Korean MMO-style PvP where one-shotting = skill. The western market is different and it is my sincerest hope that we can have an alive PvP community in the west too.

EDIT: However, if this is a PvE-only specialization then I’m 100% backing rifle for the Thief. We all know how mediocre the Shortbow is. So tl;dr: Absolutely no for PvP, but thumbs up for PvE only specialization.

Thanks.

If they do it correctly, it will be both great and mediocre in PvP. You know how people use only one weapon set even when they can use two? Well, this wouldn’t be one, because it isn’t meant to be a 1v1 main weapon, just a starter and possibly a finisher(if they run) .Because if it has long cast time, people have tps, evade, invuln, etc to stop you from spam killing. But in team PvP, it can be main snipe, and just pick them apart.
By the way, NO one shots possible (hopefully)

Stats is probably the main reason why they wanna change the whole trait lines thing.
What if I want to become a pure DPS and Water elementalist at the same time cause
I want to be DPS but uses cantrips/regens/Vigor/condi removes?? Should they force me to get the Vitality/Healing over Perc/Ferocity?? Like-wise if I wanted to use arcane

Maybe they just gonna put stats on 1 side / Traits on another / Specialization for
a Sidegrade.

I highly doubt it will be weapon based due to swap mechanics or stat base due to
balancing/versatility issues. Based on utility skills?? unlikely. All classes have 5 possible
specializations based on trait lines alone.

Like Thief

Rogue – Poison Power Trait
Assassin – Executioner Perc Trait
Stalker – Stealth Toughness Trait
Acrobat – Dodge Vit Trait
Trickster – Tricks Condi Trait

Also look at rangers. Their Super Condition Traps are located at the Perc/Ferocity trait lines which doesn’t make any sense.
