Thanks for the advice. You are right, I can’t win 1v1, but 2v2 is a good match up. I tried the tome, it’s ok, but renewed focus is good for emergencies. However, I have real problems against (2v2) burst and cc (both are separate people, not one in both) ganging on me or my partner. I don’t use signet of mercy for revive , only for extra healing. Can’t wait for support stance!

Expectations/hopes for Pax east borderlands

Moo.3408

New siege will be ‘fear cannon’ which fears people for 10 seconds whilst they try to cross the bridge over a chasm.

Mandatory jump puzzle will have to be completed before you are allowed in the wvw fight.

NPC’s will plant traps that will randomly blow people off the map.

The map will be huge and will take you ten minutes to rejoin the fight, or 2 if you buy the 5000 gems ‘transport’ upgrade.

/sarcasm.

I’m feeling a little jaded, not expecting much at all. Wonder how many wvw guilds and random player testers have been involved in testing the map during development…

While you were being sarcastic, I like the ten minutes to get across. Not the gem part though. What about barbed wire, or manlets.

Suggestion: Commander Tag Description (WvW)

in WvW

Moo.3408

Currently when a commander tags up it shows the color and the name, and that’s it. On my server the common practice has become to tag blue for public zerg, purple for havoc, so on and so forth. However, while my server is heavy into WvW as a tier 1, there are still plenty of people who are either new or casual that don’t know what each color means and get easily confused. It would be great if we could get options for short descriptions to follow a commander’s name when hovered over on the map, and even if the text were to float below the floating commander icon on their character. This would go a long way to alleviate confusion in regular WvW, and towards facilitating multiple tags in EotM without the drama that usually accompanies such an occurance.

The descriptions I would be most interested in seeing would be:
1) Public Group
2) Havoc Team
3) Guild Group
4) Scout

I’m sure there are plenty of additional descriptions that the WvW community would find desirable, and surely PvEers would have input as well. This would hopefully be a small, inexpensive tweak that would greatly improve the quality of game play for new players and help lower the learning curve for WvW participation.

I expect this will happen, as it’s a paid expansion. Just have:
Shield emblem for defense
Fist for attack
Binoculars for scout
Flag for guild and

Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?

Moo.3408

I would like to ask. But why do some of you all care so much if a trinity system was added to the game?

If you dont like it, just dont play the trinity. Why do any of you care if it gets added?

One problem that you have with a hardcore trinity system is that you need one specific class to do one specific task. The whole success of something depends on that class doing its job right.

Imagine you can’t do something because the new content in GW2 would be designed with a trinity in mind and you would lack the profession in your party that’s the new dedicated tank/dps/healer.

I remember RF Online, a korean mmorpg I once played. The game had a trinity and the tank was a terrible class to play when you weren’t leveling in a party. Pretty much the only thing it was good in was taking hits, taunting and burning through hp-potions.
But when you wanted to level any character in high level areas, you needed a tank that could pull and keep an enemy and had the gear to keep standing in these areas.
This resulted in very few good tanks and therefore long waiting-times to form a party.
When I decided to play a tank and was pretty decent at it, the guild started to throw expensive gear at me to keep me playing, that’s how desperate everyone was for tanks.

Look at Test’s answer. You can have different dungeons that do different things, so if you want to play in a certain meta, you play in that one. Then everyone is satisfied that knows the situation. Then, in some dungeons, you won’t be forced to do diverse builds, while others you are. Even if this isn’t a quality answer, and diverse builds is forced, worst case scenario you find another group.

That is still forced roles, no matter what way you try to paint it.

This gives you options. Since you obviously don’t get my drift, if you want all zerker, you play the dungeon that’s best for that. If you want to play support with other builds in it, you go to that dungeon. Everyone should be happy if it is challenging.
Now, the only reason why you can do any build is because the content is to easy.

Are current meta is “zerker only”. You must have a meta, but why not have it like… 1 support, 1 control, etc. To get rid of zerker only, you need to make it nearly impossible which is why you make the mobs harder. +50% attack speed, and make it to no one shots, then dps only groups are impossible.

In a ‘meta’ group, members of seven out of the eight professions are expected to provide something in the support role. Thieves provide defensive support via blinds, Mesmers use Feedback and the focus to provide defensive support, Guardians have aegis, blinds, and Wall of Reflection for defensive support, and so on. Warriors and eles help the group to maintain might, Rangers and Engineers often help to provide vulnerability.

The only way to prove which argument states more truly is to test against a much more powerful, non one shot boss. Essentially, the argument is, specialized rolls, or many rolls with a little of each. Testing will tell.

We don’t mind different areas having a different meta because certain things make it easier to get through. We just don’t want FORCED roles. We don’t want to have to wait for a person with a certain build to come along to do the dungeon. Speed runners don’t have to wait for people who fall under their requirements to run the dungeon. They choose to do so.

We want the freedom to be able to run the dungeon or do the content in the gear that is the absolute opposite of the meta and be able to succeed. If we choose to do so.

Don’t force us to have to have people who fill a certain role.

Edited because my mind moved faster than my fingers and I left out a word.

The answer has been given to me, I have been enlightened by Test’s answer. If you need more explaining, I shall. By the way, point taken, but that is somewhat like what non zerker players feel.

Are current meta is “zerker only”. You must have a meta

I disagree.

The issue with berseker isn’t that it’s the most effective way to PvE, rather that it’s the most effective way to PvE everywhere.

If we had better designed encounters so one area is actually different from the other, we could have one place in which zerker is the most effective build, another in which a combination of different roles in the most effective build, another in which conditions + control is the most effective build, etc.

We don’t need to have a single meta. If the game were well designed, we would have such variety that different scenarios would have different metas.

I could go for this, but in no one place should all 5 players be most efficient with zerker.

No, I would buff the other classes so that they are also able to fill the roles in their own unique ways.

And in the end, what’s the difference? Then you buff the boss, same situation, different number factor.

Nope. You have had many explanations to you on the state of things and why certain things do not change anything, by multiple people. If you choose to ignore it all, that’s ultimately your choice.

So if I and four friends all prefer playing the DPS role, then we can’t do a dungeon together and have to split up and wait for a control and support person, with one having to wait for another DPS person?

No thanks.

I like being able to go into dungeons and use whatever role I want to use. Not whatever role is open for me. Or to wait for someone to come into fill that role.

And if you take a look at the guides for dungeons, you notice a lot of things like: guardians use your wall of reflect here, or ele’s use your might stacking skills here as hard fight’s coming up, or keeping the boss blind or dazed will help here.

Look at that. DPS people doing control or support. Already.

Never said you were forced, but the only reason why all dps works is because the mobs are to easy. But in those 5 people cases, dps is the MAIN goal, not a goal.

That idea is extremely anti-diversity. You’re nerfing one playstyle to buff another.

Since everyone can do everything, if you want to play one way, you find a party that doesn’t have it. It’s not a perfect situation, but it’s better than “zerker way or the highway”. So, if engineer was the best at everything, would you nerf it to make other professions playable?

Ok, I’ll sum up what was said about trinity on my part:
1. No trinity is needed
2. While trinity is not needed, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have different roles in dungeons
2.1. The most efficient way should not be one group of all dps
3. I think there should be 10 rolls of the present, a pair of each of these: condi, support, tank, control, dps (if you REALLY need me to, I’ll give you a description)
Additional thought:
Make trash mobs have quicker and more powerful hits
Bosses have quicker, but weaker attacks with more cc
Give them more life
While you should need these in dungeons, you should not be confined to this in non 5 man raids.

lol.
Zerkers can already get one shotted by many foes (especially the light/medium classes).
You want tankier gear/trait selections to be 1shotted also?

AND you think this will stop people running full glass cannon teams?

Go and reflect on this a while..

If you look at my earlier posts, I agreed with less one shots. I meant the bosses that don’t do as much damage and the trash mobs. Maybe decrease the damage on the one shots, but do two times the attacks. I also said lots of cc, and look at the new stability, not going to hold. Ps this partially based around taunt if you think about it.

Its needed badly stab alone was a hard counter to entire classes. Nothing like being an ele getting immune from a good bit of there effects its as if you where not even casting spells most of the time.
Now will this changes any thing it may but it looks like stab not going to last long so it maybe a very well timed effect BUT it seems that it maybe going on a much lower cd. So at the end of the day some one who knows how to play is going to stab a lot better then thoughts who do not and it really should be that way.

How could you possibly think that? It’s an extremely short duration when applied to allies and mediocre when applied to yourself. It doesn’t hard counter anything and this WILL RUIN THE WHOLE META OF GVG, guardians will become USELESS when compared to Warriors now. And it’s going to remove all needed skill. Just spam stability as much as you want.

It’s game over for WvW.

People say it will ruin melee? If it does, guardian is in business(bubble boy). Also if we are lucky, there will be less meta(or no meta).

I wouldn’t think Mallyx/Jalis would go very well together. I personally would pair Mallyx with somebody else, because Jalis’ heal removes conditions, which in turn will cause Mallyx to lose power. I’d pair him with somebody who’s skills don’t remove conditions.

Actually, that’s a better reason to pair the two. Mallyx has no condition removal, so if something happens to your Resistance boon, you have a serious problem if your other legend lacks cleansing.

Risk/reward, either way works.

Loving how people are pretending there are no diversity issues in PvE.

Some people can only see that…

PvE is very, very easy = you can use anything you want and eventually succeed.

And don’t see that…

There is a single best solution for everything = we lack variety.

Worse, they mention the first statement as if it were a good thing; ideally, PvE wouldn’t be so mind-crushing easy, and we wouldn’t have a system in which the same option is the best option everywhere.

Then, you have people who say it needs to be harder. And I think, if it gets harder by increasing damage done by monsters and increasing casting speed and cc, you won’t be able to use all zerker team, and this is what I call diversity. Also, if you count rolls in gw2, it would be: condi, support, dps, tank, cc. Then you mix 2 into a build, making it a total of 10 rolls to play, clearly not trinity. This excludes specializations, essentially that would make 15 (not yet)rolls. If all these together (or a mixture of them) on a team would be more efficient on a team than five zerkers, the it is diverse(pls don’t take that literally and say, 4 zerkers it is).

they need more aggressive AI. do that, and the rest will fall in place (going by how PvP and WvW both require lots of support and defense and control on top of having the glassy DPS people).

Did I say that, no. I said you need some things, but that is true in every game. But this could just be miscommunication. In this game, damage is necessary. Therefore, if I were saying nothing should be forced, I would be saying that damage should not be needed. Another thing needed in a game, is diversity. That is a permanent goal, like damage. But the diversity is the means in achieving the goal. Like I also said, if you increase the mobs attack, without any other gain to the players, or loss in life by the mob, you force them into a no all attack system, for if they do, they die. I’m not a dev, so I don’t make proportions. You also said that diversity contradicts going with other MMOs. It shouldn’t be exactly the same, and while I can’t think of a difference, I’m sure they can make one. My question is, would rather a ice cream shop serve only banana strawberry blast, or a lot of original flavors?
