Guild: Moonlit Renegades (Moon)
Highest-Level Toon: Markus Emmerich, 80 Human Scrapper
For everyone who is unable to see or partake in Guild Chat, here is what I found out: Press “Y”, change your status to “Invisible”, then change it back to “Online”. Fixed it with two of my toons! Obviously, until this problem is actually fixed, you need to do that with each toon, but only once per toon.
Hope this helps!
Done map completion on multiple characters and this news pleases me greatly
I went from disliking WvW content to flat out hating it because of the map completion..
WvW has nothing to do with the PvE game.. they are two entirely different game modes catered to two completely different types of gameplay
Map completion has nothing to do with WvW in the same way that WvW has nothing to do with the personal story so it should never have counted in the first placesuffice to say this news is going to make a lot of people happy
as people have said.. people who don’t like PvP game modes are no longer being forced to complete 4 PvP based maps.. 3 of which are identical clones.. talk about severe boredum
and WvW players will no longer have to deal with people taking up space on the map and complaining in the chat that they don’t even want to be thereWvW can focus entirely on WvW now and the only people playing there will be people who want to be there
as far as I am concerned this is a win win for both PvE players and WvW players and the majority of the community will agree on that
I am in 100% agreement! I have only done 100% completion on one toon…and it was a nightmare. Took me a month or more to get the WvW maps, and I really am not a WvW or PvP player no matter how many times I try it out. This way, I can get 100% doing things I am actually capable of doing. I am sure I am not the only gamer who is more naturally PvE-inclined. And, I must say, some of the PvE maps have their challenges as well, just in a different way than WvW (where you get chased down and killed, or POIs/Vistas are controlled by an opposing team that won’t budge).
Sadly, as I have been seeing scrolling through the forums, there are a lot of WvWers who are highly upset. But, honestly, I don’t understand why. WvW maps were only 4% or so of world completion. Therefore, PvE maps were a majority of world completion anyway. They would be forced to do PvE no matter what Anet did to world completion. Also, nothing is stopping WvWers from playing WvW.
And now remove the PvE map completion. Else where I will not get any Gift of Exploration because PvE map completion is a boring mindless grindfest which I don’t enjoy.
Funny you should say that. I thought that WvW maps only took up the last 4% or so of total World Completion…? Therefore, it has always been mainly about PvE maps. Put it into perspective, please. It shouldn’t stop you from continuing to play WvW.
Ok, update: It is now working for me, and I didn’t have to do anything, just continue to wait.
How do I repair, exactly? Selling on TP still does not work.
I am now able to click “Sell Instantly”, but an Error message appears. Wish we could know exactly what is causing these issues with TP in the first place…
Well, I played for a half hour straight with only minimal lag before I got disconnected. Still cannot tell if this is GW2 or my actual internet.
Well, I played for a half hour straight with only minimal lag before I got disconnected. Still cannot tell if this is GW2 or my actual internet.
All day today (September 17th) I have been experiencing horrendous lag and countless disconnects with a message referring to the game client being unable to connect to the server, or something along those lines. I am suspecting that this is the correct thread to post my experience in? I know that my internet has been a bit wonky ever since 3pm Pacific time, but the internet was fine this morning and yet I still got lag and disconnects in GW2. I’ve been reading the other threads in this forum and seeing what people’s posts from the last few days say, to gauge if this is my personal internet problem or if there also is a GW2 problem. Internet problems rarely happen to me anymore, and any lag or disconnects in GW2 have been brief, one-time things on average.
Mine happened today as well. There were no issues for me up to 2 AM PST Last night/this morning. Did yours happen after today’s patch?
Yes, I can say that it was after the new patch (or “build”, as they’d call it in-game). Wasn’t one of the newer patches meant to fix a problem of people being disconnected, or something? I can’t remember.
Tried playing this morning around 10am PST and got the “game client cannot connect” message the moment I chose a toon and hit play. Tried unplugging my router and replugging it. Internet seems to be working for now, but the real test will be whether GW2 performs now. I will post in this thread again shortly, off to go test the game itself.

I`m just gonna leave this here as a reminder:
Oh wow look,a little more than 1.5K votes, less than 10% happy. So let me ask you this Vayne, as an editor, did you ever have overwhelming feedback point to something being an absolutely horrible change/feature/ect? If so, what did you do about it? Did you simply ignore everything that the feedback was pointing to as being horrible? Did you ignore any and all suggested fixes, did you attempt to figure out what specific parts were so hated, and why? Or did you simply do nothing?
I lot of people havent seen that. Until this moment, I hadn’t. Furthermore, you seem to be missing the point, they didn’t make the new leveling system for people who already knew the game, they made it for newcomers.
They should have had a way for veterans to skip the new leveling system at least in part, but aside from that, you weren’t really the target audience for it.
Maybe talk to a few newcomers who have legitimately never seen GW2 before, and see what THEY think.
Unfortunately, even if you have one or more level 80s, if you make a new character you are stuck with the level-gating. Just because i have two 80s doesn’t mean I don’t want to play alts of different classes. That’s just my personal experience, and why I think that line I bolded in is not a good way to look at it.
Is “leveling alts” code for keyfarming?
For most of the complainers – yes.
I don’t think so, because I don’t do this “keyfarming” and I am upset. I don’t like unlocking weapon skills via leveling because it makes you wait a while to use everything, even IF people say levels 1-15 are faster to obtain now. I don’t like the idea of F-skills being level-locked, because I really don’t understand the logic behind it at all. Sure, Eles had their F-skills locked before the patch, but now I hear it’s worse. Some classes need their slot skills to be more effective in survival, more so than other classes, and level-gating these skill slots to higher levels doesn’t seem to do said classes any favors. When ANet bumped Skills and Talents up the first time, I already felt that any alt I made was just trudging through, trying to survive, for a long time, without the assistance of those skills and talents. Now we must wait even further. I do not see how this helps anyone, really.
When people make claims that everyone upset by this feature pack are just key-farmers, then that makes my opinion feel undervalued, as I do not key farm. Hell, I can’t count how many BL Chests I have that have never been opened, as I don’t go “farming” for keys…
I have had this same problem today and also made a thread about it. Only way I can think of completing it is to hold it off until next time I log in, when the metal scraps will reset themselves. It’s very frustrating, and must have been part of the slew of bugs that came with the 9/9 feature pack…
I will assume this bug took effect after the 9/9 patch, but now I can no longer disarm mines on the road even though that aspect remains in the quest description. This severely limits the speed at which I can complete this quest, as not many Separatists appear on the road (I also found that the defend event there does not go towards this quest), and the metal scrap pieces are very few (most being metal bars which the quest giver does not accept).
I have no problem with the TP changes and finally making Minis part of Wardrobe. What I do have a problem with is what most people are frustrated with as well: Weapon Skills and Skill Slots being restricted to the player until they hit X-level. (Btw, what’s up with now quests and so forth say “Level X” instead of just “X”? I thought the number alone was self-explanatory. Trying to be like WoW?) I loved having to use my weapons in order to learn their skills, and personally never found it boring. It was all about experimentation, and you got the chance to see them in action. Now you level up super fast in the early levels and get the skills without much effort, and each weapon you equip has those skill slots unlocked immediately. This does not help a player learn about their weapons.
Also, I disliked Talents being pushed to 30 in the first place. Now Skills are pushed back as well. And what i hear about Ele attunements just terrifies me. How in any way is this supposed to be helpful? As I said with weapons, it’s all about letting the player experiment and find out what works best for their style of play. It does no good to restrict a player from being able to customize their character’s stats and so forth. Now all you can do until then is customize how they physically look, as the Wardrobe system is still available.
My suggestion would be to restore the old system of weapons and skills. For all I care, everything else can stay. But what’s been done to Weapon Skills, F Skills, the rest of the Skill Slots, Skills themselves, and Talents… it’s a bit overkill and I really can’t understand the logic.
I am in agreement with you, and am glad to see you made some constructive suggestions for the issues. It will be a bit harder for me since all but two of my characters are under level 20 (the mentioned two are 80). I can live with some things, but not weapon skills and skill slots being pushed back levels.
noice, thanks for the tip
You are very welcome! I would have gone insane if I hadn’t known it was possible. I think they should rename that option because upon first glance you wouldn’t necessarily know what “Game Guide” means. But that’s my opinion. It’s the main thing that feels “hand-holdy” for us who’ve been playing long enough to know how to get around.
Since the new feature patch came into being yesterday this was driving me crazy, being a huge distraction since, being here for about a year now, I already know how to play and where to locate places on the map. Other people may not mind it, but for anyone else who has been distracted by it, I finally discovered how to hide it, thanks to a guild mate.
In General Options, underneath In-Game Clock under User Interface there is an option called “Content Guide”. It gives you the options of: “Default”, “Off”, “Disable Personal Story”, and “Hide Events and Personal Story”.
Hope this helps everyone! I know it helped me. Makes me feel less violent towards the new patch, but am still miffed by weapon and skill slots and other content being pushed further back up the level ladder.
They are basically insulting new players by calling them morons lol
edit: very nice vid, funny and very true.
The sad part is, these features exist on all characters regardless of whether or not you have an 80 character or more.
If the changes were meant for new players, then they obviously failed with this OP. What baffles me is that the changes are from how the game is in China. Um…ok…what does that have to do with us? Just because we have a lot of “Made in China” merch on our shelves doesn’t mean we need some hostile takeover of a game that was fun to play!
The Chinese players aren’t very fond of the changes, either.
That just makes it even MORE baffling… I mean…what the heck? Seriously? Where’s the kitten ed logic behind this?
the china influence is stronggg in this recent patch, and its a terrible path anet is taking… no one likes this nonsense, period. idk what metrics you guys are making up here, but its awful.. How many positive responses have we seen regarding these recent changes?
Yes, we get enough things imported here from China, we don’t need our video games being taken over by their version. Just stop it, ANet!

This exactly. -_-
This much gating in the leveling process is awful. I like the old system because of how much freedom I had.
Makes me want to, if I ever make a new alt, level up simply by mapping cultural cities… Oh how fun.
… you mean people don’t do this normally…? >.>
Have you guys sat down to make a new toon yet? I watched a friend of mine do it last night and it literally only took him an hour to get to level 15. Do we know yet exactly what level you can start doing skill challenges and diving goggles? Something to note – we no longer gain skill points every level. I just took a toon from 55-56 and gained 7 SP. I guess I hadn’t gained any for a while previously?
I’m going to make one tonight and see how it goes.
But at level 15 you still can’t do everything, right? More things remain restricted to you, from what I hear. Sure, they are things that maybe not every player does early on but, still…. freedom of choice, of how you want to play the game, is what made this game great.
I’ll try to make a new character soon, too, but i sure hope that Anet fixes some of the glaring issues with the changes they made eventually. Heard that Personal Story has been turned into a real head-scratcher near the end of it.

You don’t get enough XP to hit 10 just by map completion of the major cities. :/
…kitten . Well, guess I won’t be making that Charr Mesmer I’ve been wanting to do. And all my other characters are under level 20 haha. Don’t necessarily want to play my two 80s all the time because sometimes I need to play another class for a few hours, but guess I can’t do that without wanting to bash my head against a wall (metaphorically).
I can see that happening, driving away both veteran players and new players. It feels like a ticking time-bomb, especially after browsing the forums since yesterday. I have two 80s but I do enjoy mixing things up and playing alts of different classes. Now I don’t know if I even want to do that. Good-bye, Charr Mesmer I was planning . . .

It’s a sad thing to say but I’ve had more fun on the forums here in the last few weeks than I would have had in-game.
I was just thinking the same thing.
Got home from work and logged onto forum instead of game. An hour later and I’m still here.
Maybe they can start a forum gem store and sell different colored fonts and such.
Same here!
Lulz
Haha, that sounds like something we absolutely need!
Dear Chris Whiteside,
I am in complete agreement with what many people have suggested on this thread regarding the huge gaming changes made on September 9th: That the “new player experience”, level-gating, etc. should be left for players who have only just started the game for the first time, and leave it off or optional for those of us who have gotten farther in the game. I have two level 80s right now but enjoy making alts of different classes. Now I, quite frankly, fear creating a new character or playing the ones I have who are all under level 20. Sometimes I like to mix up my GW2 routine and work on alts and other classes, but now I don’t want to because I know of the heavy, stifling restrictions made on characters 1-20/30/40. I fear this patch will make you lose veteran players and not bring in as many new players as you wish. So I ask you, please take our complaints into consideration and find a compromise. The threads complaining about the changes are still alive and well into the second day of the patch. Surely this tells ANet something…
Hi,
I am planning on starting an alt again when i get some time. Why don’t we play together as I would like to experience it with you and hear your feedback.
Chris
Chris,
What day and time are you considering? I live in Pacific time, west coast of the US.
I am continuing to read threads today, and I see that some are talking about some misconceptions about the leveling and restrictions, but it still sounds like it takes until level 10 to unlock a certain number of weapon skill slots, and downed skills, and underwater skills. If these are still true, I don’t need to play to let you know that I am quite upset by this. I enjoyed leveling up weapon skills by merely killing enemies, and being able to fight underwater and do anything I wanted (well, obviously some things are best at higher levels, naturally!) from day one. Now i have to trudge through, it sounds like, and have everything, even Personal Story, delayed beyond what patience will allow.

My issue is that I have all but “Finishing Opponents” under “PvP”. Defeated an enemy, hit F, they died, and it says I still need it. It is even more frustrating given the fact that I am not a fan of PvP (or WvW for that matter) in general, in any video game. I don’t want to have to go in again, especially if this ends up being a bug that will never be fixed. I had no issues with any other Hints, not even the mail one.
OP: I do agree with your feelings on this subject – If there was a way for the developers to involve/acknowledge your character more, that would make it more enjoyable to play. However, even if they did that, I still wouldn’t feel entitled to play in any rush. Why? The “Superfriends” get on my nerves quite a lot with their stereotypical cliches/archetypes. I really don’t give a kitten about them at all. IMO, even Destiny’s Edge was more likable and each character felt far more unique and fleshed out than these guys.
When it built up to the kiss it was something special, now, unfortunately it looses its flare because we no longer have a purpose to serve other than to remind you that “aww we have a lesbian couple in our game”.
I completely agree with this. Every time I do try the Living Story, it just seems to feel like “Look! Same-sex couple who happen to be very attractive and Mesmer/Necro, very opposites, isn’t that better?!”. Don’t get me wrong, I know that 1.) attractive people exist and 2.) it’s very hard to make unattractive women in GW2, but by both of them being “hot”, it feels like it’s just trying to appeal to men who get a kick out of two hot women kissing, etc. I am completely in favor of equal rights for LGBTQ individuals, and against marginalization of minority groups as a whole. I also am glad that plenty of games, movies, TV shows, etc. have been including characters of all kinds of backgrounds these days. However…there is a point when it feels just plain forced, and I agree that these two characters feel that way. Yeah, it shows that Tyria is a pretty open-minded world (though there is quite a lot of racism between some of the races, but the point is they have to put that aside to defeat Zhaitan and the Elder Dragons), but…yeah, I’ll just be repeating myself if I say it again. :P
(edited by Moyayuki.3619)
Oh my goodness, I completely agree with this… I keep asking myself that same question every single time I have to go to Kessex Hills or run into a Toxic Offshoot and mobs. As someone who has not enjoyed any of these Living Story events (and tend to die many times every time I try, even with a level 80), it gives me quite a headache and, quite frankly, mars my enjoyment of the game as a whole. I doubt any complaints will change ANet’s mind, as they had done quite a number of changes to the game that ruined aspects of play…
