I prefer the original GW2 LA. It felt more logical in its setup, easy to get around, whereas the new one deviates so far from what it used to be that I can’t even consider it “Lion’s Arch” anymore, and everything feels so darn cluttered. Nothing makes sense in the new city. Loved the city gates in the old one, where when you exit the hub you are greeted by a large statue of a LION. “Lion’s” Arch. New city is more like “Shell’s Arch” or something. I really dislike trying to complete the LA map now due to how confusing the layout is. It may have “character” but it has no character, if that makes sense. Easily forgettable because it deviated too far from its roots.
I realise this isn’t an ideal solution but considering the bosses are on the same schedule 7 days a week, and the timings are listed online couldn’t you make time to do them on one of the days when you’re not working?
It might take some planning but it should be possible. Maybe explain to your wife in advance that there’s a particular thing you want to do which only happens at certain times of the day so you want to make sure you’re on the computer when it happens and ask her to help organise things so you have that time free.
Or just arrange things yourself. Like today I got out of work a bit early and I knew my husband was going to be busy all evening so I made sure I was doing something easy for dinner (and luckily it was my night to cook instead of wash up) which left me plenty of time to do the entire Dragon’s Stand meta-event.
At least the world bosses (minus Teq in some cases) are pretty quick, so once you commit to a day and time, it won’t take up too much time. It’s all about figuring out what works for each individual’s circumstances. Honestly, I am really glad that bosses are on a set timer, even if it’s frustrating when I log in and a boss won’t spawn again for another hour and a half. :P
As a, pretty casual, player with playtime limited to specific times of day (30-60 minutes before work and an hour or so in the evening when kids are asleep and wife is watching some series I have quite often been sad to see the big events being on the same time every day.
Would it be possible to get the events on a rotating schedule instead so even though you log in on the same time each day you can still have a chance to participate in all events?
As an example of my situation, I’ve been able to play Tequatl once since launch when I got some extra playtime…
I can’t say anything in regards to the events, but world bosses such as Teq always run at exactly the same time every day. Teq usually is best to do during the Daily reset. You can find websites that show boss timers for specific servers.
Pause.
Look around.
Make decisions about paths to take, angles of approach, and so on based on a considered approach. In my short experience (I only bought HoT a couple of weeks ago) the single greatest contributor to character death has been a lack of situational awareness. We did not really need to pay attention to what was going on around us in the core maps and so we became accustomed to just charging in, essentially blindly.
We did not need to be aware that a patrol passes through the spot where we intend to attack a mob because adds meant more drops, not more danger. Now one might want to be aware of patrol patterns, pull foes away from such paths, and be already thinking about what one will do if/when the unexpected spawn occurs or one is knocked into a nearby foe’s aggro range.
I am not as young as I once was I am not as good of a player as many. I lack the reflexes I had even just a few years ago. But I have found that by putting some forethought into my actions and being prepared with contingencies for the inevitable SNAFU, HoT is not particularly difficult.
One big issue with these maps is, you see where you want to go (even if it’s looking only at the map since you cannot spot a Mastery Point from the ground), you look around, you find a path…and end up being driven in the opposite direction than you intended, and no clearer paths can be found. I only got two Mastery Points in Verdant Brink because the rest are either in really difficult areas, or can’t even be seen no matter where I go. These maps are a chore, not fun, and I can’t go “enjoy the scenery” and fully explore because I’m always trying not to get killed or fall to my death.
That’s…just plain freaky. o_O (Also wasn’t even aware that there was a mini-dungeon in Caledon since it is a starter zone and all.)
That would be nice. It could be right next to the mini-map, or in the top right-hand corner. I personally think it woudl be good because, honestly, there are times in-game when it is considered “day” or “night” but the sky doesn’t show it accurately. I honestly have never noticed a single sunrise or sunset, either, which is off-putting from the POV of someone who likes to look around the environment. Perhaps the sunsets and sunrises are just not dynamic enough. Hell, even the Legend of Zelda games, as far back as Ocarina of Time, had really nicely rendered sunsets/rises, and was always fun to track the sun moving through the sky. This is just personal taste.
I agree. A few days ago, I finally completed the Silverwastes map. It was the first time I was ever in the map when the big final event was running. I would have been disappointed if the event had failed and the last zone remained closed-off.
And yet it happens, even in the Silverwastes. It’s not very different from the Temples in Orr, which made it very very hard to get the communes on the hero points in them when they weren’t captured after an event.
I actually find all Orr maps to be loads easier than Dry Top, Silverwastes, and HoT maps. Easier to navigate, easier to complete, easier to survive. Though I 100% realize that the Orr maps were nerfed at one point, and the LS and HoT maps are deliberately more difficult. However, I also find no issue with getting into the temple events in Orr, the ones that make it easier to acquire the PoI or WP (some temples I can run in and out easily).
The problem isn’t running into the temple. It’s channeling the skill point when the temple isn’t under Pact control. The spawn rate makes that very hard solo, unless you have a profession that uses stealth. Sometimes you can do it on a ranger using the pet to distract, but it’s still not that easy. There’s also a champ that spawns near a skill point in Malchors, a risen knight, that kills many people who try to get that skill point.
But yes, I agree, the new zones are harder. Then again, there has been some power creep in the game, and many of us are more powerful.
I’ve been able to complete the Orr maps on many toons without too great difficulty, so it definitely shows that they are drastically more doable than later maps. Maybe I’ve just been lucky and have found many of the spots you are referring to cleared out when I got there.

now you know that place has killer frogs, you know to flush them out before you begin your harvests.
You can’t run round with your hindsight on all the time, it takes time to build that up.
Maybe not, but equipping yourself with more defensive gear for those few moments you don’t have it ‘on’ isn’t a practical option in GW2 either. As I’ve said, these aren’t issues of gear or traits. It’s fantasy to think if I wear THIS, I’m good against magically appearing killer frogs. Defensive stats just AREN’T that effective. You’re primary and most effective defenses are not related to stats. It’s actually BAD advice for anyone to recommend using defensive stats for the situation the OP is talking about, unless of course he’s willing to swap in and out constantly into his more offensive gear for his more familiar encounters, which I doubt.
The question “What is good stats for HoT?” is just as bad a question as “What is good stats for Core?”. The answer is dependent HIGHLY on the player. The BEST stats are still zerkers and Vipers gear because the fundamental PVE approach in this game isn’t different between Core and HoT. The real question is how MUCH do you have to stray from that gear to enable yourself to use your ACTIVE defenses like dodging, etc…
I, the OP, was under the impression that there was no such thing as “bad questions”, only “bad answers”. So far, no one has given me any answer that really lets me know how to survive in HoT without resorting to skill and weapon combos I rarely enjoy using. My character is a sponge in HoT, plain and simple, and it realy turns me away from continuing Living Story in there, or even exploring the maps.
(PS: I am a girl. Not the first time someone assumed I was a guy in these forums. Never thought my username sounded masculine.)
I know people are done with Sylvari because they’re everywhere, but we still miss Malyck and his Tree in story (btw it was cut from HoT story due to time deadlines) and there are still covered maps in the Jungle… We cannot just ignore that and go to Crystal Desert…
I do like Canach, but I felt that special bond with Trehearne, because he was my friend and Canach is sarcastic kitten – I am playing sylvari btw.
Well, we’ll see if he joins us or leaves us to his own business.
I’d prefer when he leaves us and we find Malyck finally, meet his tree and get all information about what happened with Sylvaris after Mordy’s death, then finito and let’s move to Rata Novus!
Good point. There are numerous characters and subplots from our Personal Stories that were simply dropped and never mentioned again, but would have had great repercussions for the GW2 world at large.
Yeah. I know you can bid the key. But not many people do.
It needs to be bond by default, and when entering underwater in starting areas with low level characters a movement tooltip with the keys should appear, so people not checking options can see it.
Underwater combat without swim down is HORRID. To go down, you have to actually look down and swim downwards, while with swim down you can freely move in all directions while keeping an eye on the target.
To swim down, I click both clickers on the mouse at once and move the mouse backwards, which makes me go downward. But yes, it does limit what else I could be doing/takes my visual attention elsewhere.
EDIT: Added the genders of each toon.
I always love having a Sylvari Mesmer for some reason.
But, here are my current toons (some may be deleted and replaced with other races):
1 Sylvari Mesmer (female)
1 Sylvari Ranger (female)
1 Human Engineer (male, lvl 80)
1 Human Necromancer (female)
1 Human Warrior (male)
1 Asura Elementalist (female, lvl 80)
1 Norn Elementalist (female, may delete)
1 Norn Guardian (female)
1 Norn Ranger (female, may delete)
1 Charr Revenant (female)

Sadly, simply blocking the user doesn’t fix the situation either. If you block one, there will just be more.
Hope I am not hijacking this thread too much, but how, exactly, does one go about unlocking the Masteries? Just keep doing events, killing things, etkittenil the bar fills? Which would suggest spending a lot of time in the HoT zones.
The answer depends on your class and your playstyle.
Not sure how, the question seems to be “what is best to survive a dart-shooting frog whilst foraging”.
I think if anything, class and playstyle have WAY more to do with that question than the stats on your gear does.
I still don’t know how. If I’m literally gathering when a frog attacks me, it doesn’t matter if I normally play bunker engineer or flag waving taunt master in a raid.
Exactly … that’s not a gear, stats or setup issue. Gathering with a frog attacking you is a playstyle issue. That’s a risk-taking playstyle.
I’ll clarify what happened in my situation:
Went over to a harvesting node, pressed “F”. Never saw the frog, it seemed to jump out of nowhere and attacked me as I was harvesting. I attacked back immediately but got slaughtered.
I did not blindly harvest, and keep harvesting even while being attacked, not counter-attacking at all. But the fact that I died so fast shows that something about my gear, even though it is level 80 stuff, is not good enough to survive HoT.
By the way, what does “biconics” mean? I keep seeing it pop up in this thread, but have never heard of it in the game.
The original five Destiny’s Edge were known as iconic characters of GW2. So when we got a fresh junior set, the B group, it got conflated to biconics.
Wow, that’s…really lame. Just take “iconic” and slap a “b” onto it? It sounds too much like “bionic”, and also was making me think some Asuran elites or colleges were running the show behind the scenes.
Welcome to the evolution of language (or at least of slang)
If a third group of heroes pops up, are they going to be…“triconic”?
Also, I wish that there could be more than just ONE piece of music that would play underwater. It gets very old. We get different music in different zones, why not underwater as well?
That’s true, but just in case, let me point out you can create your own soundtracks specifically for underwater.
So we can use music from our iTunes? That would be really awesome. There is one track from the Final Fantasy X soundtrack that I have that I would love to have playing in GW2. =)

There is a reason why one is called “Player versus Environment” and the other “Player versus Player” and “World versus World”.
Argh, OP idea of competitive is obviously different from the norm.
And that’s why all the salt. Sometimes changes are good. Old populations have to step down and let the young ones take over, it cannot always be old one’s game. But some are just willing to grip on with their last teeth and do whatever it takes to make the game as stale as possible and unchanged, when in reality, the majority of the population no longer wants it, it’s just the relics of the old ones.
May I ask what you would consider an “old population” in regards to Guild Wars 2? I’m greatly curious. Is it an age thing? Or based upon the games that the player began with before transitioning to GW2? But regardless of your answer, this mindset is just plain toxic and elitist. It suggests that there is a group of people who are no longer allowed to play certain games. It’s like telling someone who dislikes the path that the Halo franchise is going, who loved the original trilogy of games, that because of that they should move on from Halo entirely and never bother with it.
Yes, I agree that some changes/polishes need to be made to underwater combat. It really does add another element to the game, which is good.
Also, I wish that there could be more than just ONE piece of music that would play underwater. It gets very old. We get different music in different zones, why not underwater as well?
As other people have mentioned, it would also be nice to have an option to turn off NPC (non-cutscene/PS/LS) chatter.
By the way, what does “biconics” mean? I keep seeing it pop up in this thread, but have never heard of it in the game.
1) The biconics are not mary sue characters. May Sues are defined by a lack of flaws and how everything always goes their way.
It could be worse, but there is a bit of Mary Sue going on with the biconics, especially Kasmeer and Taimi.
While both of them are introduced as characters with some degree of challenge in their life or background, rarely does either actually face setbacks or have to deal with compromise or challenge as a result.
While Kasmeer is introduced as losing her status and class, she doesn’t look like a street urchin, she remains one of the most elegant characters in the game. She landed rather comfortably right away with a job and a home so we never see her truly struggle after losing her wealth and social status. Even a show like Two Broke Girls is a more realistic portrayal of the life of someone like Kasmeer who loses everything and is thrust into a lower class without the upbringing giving her the skills to handle that. We are told she lost her wealth and her security but all we ever see is a beautiful woman living comfortably in a world where that’s not a realistic outcome.
Secondary to this, or perhaps even worse, the only demonstration of her loss of social status is a random person doesn’t announce her with a title at a social function. We see she still has a relationship with Logan, Captain of the Seraph and the Queen’s partner, we see she has a relationship with Anise, and she even joins the royal escort in the World Summit that Kasmeer herself helped negotiate by writing a letter directly to the Pale Tree. The gravity of losing your social status and your class is completely lost when the reality is Kasmeer has privileged access to some of the most powerful people in Tyria but her background is supposed to suggest the opposite.
Why write that a character is an alcoholic if you’re never going to show that character struggle with their alcoholism? Kasmeer’s flaws are really faux flaws – superficially they make her sound interesting but throughout the story they are barely present. Which is more interesting – an alcoholic that tells you they are an alcoholic but never in the story does that present a challenge for them, or one that loses their family and job because they couldn’t control their drinking? Kasmeer is the former, it’s window dressing but it’s not her lived in reality.
With no field experience prior to her introduction, Kasmeer holds her next to seasoned fighters like Braham, Marjory and Rox, going as far as to surpass them during the season one finale with Mesmer Sue powers. She does this multiple times throughout the story, including being specifically summoned herself by some authority on mesmers because of how fantastic a mesmer she is.
It’s a similar theme across many of the biconics – Rox is the lowest class of charr but has privileged access to one of the highest ranking charr, Rytlock. She gets the honour of ambassador to Kryta for the Queen’s Jubilee and she’s trusted with important tasks such as taking on Scarlet. Even after disobeying orders, she retains privileged access and has more autonomy than most people would in a military culture like the charr. She isn’t stationed on watch duty, she doesn’t have to clean out the cow dung, she isn’t “shipped off to Siberia” as a punishment, she continues to be a part of the charr military hierarchy while working side by side with some of the most elite people in Tyria.
When bad things happen, the consequences are either superficial or short lived, or the bad things happen to people around them. Marjory’s sister’s death is a bad thing that happened to Belinda not Marjory, if Marjory had become an alcoholic in her grief, or a ruthless necromancer indiscriminately killing sylvari to take down Mordremoth – then she would have real flaws, all we see did was disappear for an episode and act slightly more suspicious of sylvari than everyone else.
The flaws these characters possess hold little to no power in their lives, it’s just window dressing to give the appearance of a more compelling character. The characters themselves rub shoulders with important people, get to go on important missions, are successful at almost everything they do, and unlike Destiny’s Edge – they haven’t paid a price like the defeat against Kralkatorrik and death of Snaff. The idea itself isn’t bad, the execution just didn’t utilise it. Their flaws don’t weigh them down, they rarely challenge or obstruct them, they act as window dressing to make it seem like these people are exceptional because they accomplish things even with “flaws”. That’s why they come off as Mary Sue to many people.
^ THIS! These definitely were the thoughts going on in the back of my mind throughout all the LS’s, but I could never really figure out how to vocalize/express these thoughts. There was always something irksome about these new characters, and I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I did get Mary Sue/Gary Stue vibes nonetheless.
Honestly, I think that MS/GS are broader characterizations than most people believe. It can mean a main character who has absolutely no flaws and does everything right (or wrong, with no repercusions), OR they happen to have way too many flaws and tragedy in their life and yet still magically save the day (not in a goofish, clumsy character kind of way, mind you. Etain from Star Wars Republic Commando is a big example of this, in my mind. Ugh. She killed that series for me.)
Enemy major attacks have tells… generally in the form of huge red circles that appear before they land. The only attacks that don’t show are auto attacks like the tiny pocket raptors who jump at you, hit you, and run away, rinse repeat.
Yeah, it’s things like that (and the dart shooting frogs) that aren’t necessarily easy to avoid by simply moving (not dodging).
Movement is necessary for HoT enemies, yes. However, it becomes difficult to effectively move out of the way of attacks (in my personal experience) because we can only dodge/roll twice before endurance refills, which is an extremely limiting feature. I can be running around an enemy and zig-zagging and somehow they will magically hit me; only doing double-tapping or V (whichever you prefer for dodge) keeps me immune. And this is me speaking about pure movement, not speaking about any skills or other things that can block or deflect attacks.
I voted for “Dragon’s Watch”. Sounded the least lame, as Vyrulisse mentioned. But then, I really am finding that I am not caring about these new characters whatsoever, even after going through all LS up to the beginning of HoT. Destiny’s Edge are far superior characters, IMO. And Rox’s face looks…weird. Like a cartoon, and not a GW2 Charr. What’s up with that?
Only reason why I don’t use MH axe is because it auto-attacks up to three targets. Meaning, if I am attacking an enemy and there happens to be another creature nearby that is not aggressive, I am going to aggro them, and have more than one enemy to fight. If this was not the case, if these types of weapons (another example is Thief shortbow and Mesmer staff) could only attack up to 3 targets only if they were aggressive (red health/name tag, auto attack you if you get close enough), then I’d be more willing to use MH axe for Ranger. It’s a useful weapon, just not when you do not want to aggro enemies unnecessarily (which is my situation all the time with it, ugh).
Sorry for the rambling sentences, and if this was off-topic…
Gryphons (or whatever they are called in this game) for sure. However, I really wish that I could tame a tiger without having to go to HoT maps on a level 80 toon… A tiger was always my main pet in World of Warcraft, and now that GW2 has finally introduced one for Rangers…I can’t get it unless I am level 80. Very frustrating. Love WoW’s pet variety, but GW2 needs to give that same variety without locking low-level toons out of the choice. GW2’s pets are generally boring and uncreative, IMO.
Agreed! Though I will admit that there are certain races and classes (and even genders of certain races/classes) that I can stand more than others. This will be useful for the ones I don’t care for. No longer will have to hear “We heal as one!” over and over with my Rangers, sheesh. Most other Ranger dialogue is fine.
“Added an option called Disable Player Chatter to the Sound Options tab. Enabling this option will disable all player chatter VO, such as boon and condition gain, mantra and shout lines, reward acquisition commentary, and low-endurance notifications.”
So does this apply to not only our own toons, but everyone else’s? Now we wont’ have to hear toons shouting their buffs every time! I am interested in seeing how this works out. At the very least, I would enable the disable option for certain races or classes, haha. Others, I have not as much issue with.
I’ve never gotten out of Verdant Brink, have always gone back to play my lower-level toons. But so far, I find that HoT maps do and at the same time do not encourage exploration and taking in the details of the map. They do encourage it because of how complex they are, and the more WPs you get, the easier it will be to get around. However, they discourage good exploration because of how many mobs there are all over the place. I end up focusing on simply surviving instead of looking at how the devs created the map.
(Also, on an unrelated note, some sound design in VB is very odd. Heard what might have been a tiger, but it literally sounded like a human making a tiger-ish sound, not like a real animal. It was weird, and I was running around trying to figure out where the hell that annoying sound was coming from!)
What profession are you playing, and traits are you currently running? Are you using a power build, condi build, or hybrid build? This would help in giving suggestions as to what and how to add defensive stats to what you normally do while changing as little as possible.
~EW
My current level 80 who I’ve been using to run Dailies is an Engineer/Scrapper. If I remember correctly, he has either Beserker armor, or condi stats. He uses dual-wielding pistols, but I also will use Flamethrower and Elixir Gun when necessary.
I also would plan on running other characters through HoT when I get there, so that includes one of every class.
I’ve been Knight Necro since forever. Never got downed on HoT maps before and I’m proud of that. My traits are defensive too. I mostly played tank in oldschool MMOs… Old habits die hard.
Anyway, Knight is awesome. Or a mix of Knight and other stats. Toughness is underestimated.
Doesn’t a high Toughness level make mobs target you more often? I remember hearing that somewhere.
What I’ve noticed about, say, Norn and Charr, is that they do run at exactly the same speed as Asura and Human, it’s just that their gait is slow due to their size. I think the slowness is an illusion. However, I do get peeved that not all classes have very dependable speed boost skills. Why should one get a permanent boost via a sigil/whatever, and another only gets a temporary one, while another can only boost from using a weapon skill?
When I say “stats”, I mean things like Berserker, Cleric, Soldier, etc. I was in Verdant Brink one day to try to get Daily foraging done, when I was absolutely slaughtered by a dart-shooting frog. Chatting with people in the map after that painful death, I was told that Berserker isn’t the best for HoT, since it’s meant for pure damage and not survivability. When I then went to ask in map chat what was the suggested stat to go with for HoT survival, no one gave an answer. So, that’s why I am posting here, now.
Any advice on this? And is there a stat that can work with any class, for surviving and getting through the HoT maps?
Thanks!
I play cloth zerker ele so stats don’t really matter (13k hp), but i do switch to defensive utilities while i’m in there and have to pay attention with my dodges etc.
But what would be the defensive stats that would help with surviving the HoT maps and mobs? That’s what I’m trying to get out of people because no one has given me a straight answer.

I feel like we had more freedom of choice with the original system. The current one, where you only get to choose 3 lines for your build, is incredibly limiting, and therefore may lead to a lot of players having the same build as others.
EDIT: I also like how, in the old system, each line would give you more health, or more attack, etc., so that way you could further customize your toon’s build. But with the new one, we all have the same stats essentially, except for whatever is given by armor, weapons, and accessories. So what’s the point of putting points into those traits if all they do is pigeon-hole you and not give better benefits?
So to reiterate your primary concern:
Daily list
4 – PvE
4 – WvW
4 – PvPand you want:
8 – PvE
4 – WvW
4 – PvP
No, I was not asking for there to be more PvE dailies at the expense of PvP and WvW. If PvE is to be increased, then, therefore, PvP and WvW must be increased in variety as well.
But.. you get Karma from hearts. I’m against any form of instant World Completion.
World Completion is meant to be a long term thing. It’s meant to take effort, otherwise the reward at the end isn’t worth having.
Agreed.
Whenever I’m in WvW and see Keep capturer… I feel your pain. Generally means I have to do a PvE daily, which is against my playstyle.
I also like legendaries, think they are pretty aesthetically pleasing … was kittened when I found out I had to run (shudders) dungeons. Instead of coming to the forum and letting anet know what they are doing wrong (imho of course) … guess what I do.
Has one job … Does it.
But I mean, I totally see where you are coming from. World completion used to require WvW points of interest. Guess what the PvE community did? Got them removed, so there hope for you yet.
Keep this thread on anets radar and maybe just maybe … they will give you more pve options (that you also may not like, and we will hear back on that sequel)
~X
Back when WvW was required for world completion, I did my best to get them done. I think I may have gotten them done right before the requirement was taken out. Needless to say, it wasn’t easy, but it was my choice. It worked out great when other players weren’t trying to kill me. Wish I could have worn a tag that indicated I was only trying to complete the map and wasn’t in there to fight. :P
Now that the conversation has turned more civil, I have decided to leave this open – you guys are having some interesting discussions that bring up valid points. As long as this stays civil, I will keep this thread open.
It’s nice that you’ve decided that, but just so you’re aware for the future you could not close the thread even if you wanted to.
It might still be possible to delete your original post, but the entire rest of the topic (including any posts that quoted yours) would remain. You could also post a request for a moderator to close it but that would be entirely at their discretion, as far as I’m aware they don’t usually close active threads simply because the original poster asks for it.
I’m just worried about toxicity reappearing, and I think that game forums need less of that, as it helps no one and only furthers this strange mindset on the internet that, just because your identity is hidden behind an avatar and/or username, you can treat other people any way you want.
So you make threads about something you’re but now I’m intrigued in the discussion, I’m not supposed to care what you think? You’re right, I’m finding it hard to care what you think, because I don’t see how anyone has come to the conclusion that dailies have become less casual friendly with all the casual friendly options dailies have to offer, UNLESS they are including those absolutely trivial activities I listed.
What I DO see is that people are associating their unwillingness to do daily activities outside their comfort level with being less casual friendly … that’s a leap in logic that garners the most objection. That’s not dailies being less casual, that’s players restricting themselves to the point where they can’t do content and pointing the finger away from themselves as the culprit, claiming that it’s somehow the game that prevents them. Doesn’t fly well with reason.
Come on, there’s no reason to be rude, essentially insinuating that I don’t have “reason”. You’ve even spoken against me in completely unrelated threads, such as one in the HoT forum. I don’t understand what I did to trigger you. You and I obviously have different game style preferences, and therefore different opinions, but I think you are making assumptions about me that simply are not true. Just because I may not like PvP and WvW and therefore can’t complete some days’ Dailies, does not mean I don’t enjoy the game, and I KNOW that I have specific preferences, so PLEASE do not assume that I am deflecting “blame”. Sheesh!
Also, it would be very helpful/polite if you could make your responses to people’s posts by Quoting them, so it is more clear who you are talking to.
That’s easily solved though as we already stated. you can do events at your leisure as well, just do them less often. I mean, if you do an Event once every few months, do they really get that stale? No more so than repeating a heart every few months if you roll a new character.
It’s not that people aren’t accepting of opinions here. It’s the idea that somehow, the lack of hearts in HoT is a problem related to soloable/appealing content for people that prefer them even though the technical difference between hearts and events is so trivial, it’s hard to believe such a claim to be honest.
Oh, I wasn’t arguing anything about lack of Hearts in HoT; it’s just when a discussion began to crop up in here about Hearts vs Events, I thought I’d give my own thoughts about it, that’s all. HoT is no different from Orr in this regard, and Orr has been around much longer, so those of us who have gotten to level 70+ know the deal. I just don’t think that Hearts should be seen as “trivial”, as they are needed for map completion. Events are an optional way to get XP and loot and keep busy, so nothing wrong with that. I’m just not going to repeat them every single time they reset.
Live and let live.
The thing that I don’t like as much about dynamic events is that, while many are memorable and important to the context of the map/region…they get very stale when repeated over and over. It doesn’t’ give you the sense that you made any change in that part of the world, whereas Hearts are done once – you’ve fixed the immediate issue plaguing that farmer or that community. Honestly, the only “events” in this game that I DO enjoy repeating on a single character are world bosses and dungeons. Dynamic events make no sense when done more than once.
Honestly, I’m not even arguing against dynamic events. We all get things in this game that we can choose to do based on our game style preferences. No need to be at each other’s throats just because we all prefer different things! Some people here are incredibly antagonistic and don’t like to accept other people’s opinions… -sigh-
Then i just fail to see any point you have tried to make in this thread because you don’t have time for most of the current activities, but anything less would trivial to the point of the activities that were removed in the past so … I can only conclude you can be appeased with any set of activities that would be non-trivial yet fast to do.
BTW, you aren’t the only person I was responding to.
I’m looking back at the original comment you made on this, and I will reiterate once again that I in no way was ever asking for ANet to reinstate the no-effort Dailies that existed before the updates. It looks like what me and other people would be interested in would be more options, which does not mean things should be dumbed down.
Also in response to the original comment, I DO love MMORPGs, and GW2 is one of the few that I’ve been able to enjoy and relax to while playing. So I don’t understand where in the world you came to the conclusion that MMOs are not for me… Everyone has their own play styles and preferences, and that’s why many MMOs are good choices. No one has the right to tell someone that a game is not for them. You do your thing, I do my thing, and it doesn’t hurt anyone. Why do you even care about what I think?
not sure if you realize this but games aren’t intended to be trivial in nature.
? O.o
Yeah, not sure if any of us here suggested that the game and its challenges be rendered “trivial”…
Seems pretty clear to me the second suggested that dodging, along with some other ‘activities’ used to be part of the ‘nice, casual friendly’ set of daily accomplishments. This my not be obvious to you but dodging, reviving, killing white creatures and the list of other things that were removed during that phase of daily revamping are completely trivial activities.
I never said that…nor was I asking for those super-easy Dailies to be reinstated.
ViP players should be able to play the game and download new patches for free…
But…the patches are free… :/
One of the selling points for me for this series, has always been the lack of a subscription fee. Even one as innocent as each month you get free Waypoint costs and a small amount of gems would not go over well with me as it would create the psychological need to play the game. One of the great things about this game is how easy it is to breaks. The playerbase even encourages it for when players become burned out or bored but to come back when the next Patch, LS, etc. etc. comes out. A subscription fee would be counter to that healthy culture.
I feel the same way. This is why I finally gave up on World of Warcraft, and only bought Elder Scrolls Online when they cut out the subscription model (now a subscription is an optional choice, and gives you some benefits like the OP’s theorized “VIP” model). If I have to pay money in order to play for a month at a time, then I had better have the time and energy/motivation in order to play the game often enough each month to make the loss of real money feel justified/worth it. What happened to me with WoW was, not only was the game changing in ways I didn’t approve of, but I also was getting into university, so I had less free time. Now that I am working full-time, I really don’t have the time to play for hours each day. This is also why I haven’t used Xbox Live Gold or other subscriptions like that in years.
