What the others said!
Now that I know that Season 3 is tied to HoT, that makes the money spent on it (and especially for those taking advantage of the half-off sale) seem very much worth it, since we are getting a very extended story out of it (or two stories, if you consider HoT story and LWS3 as separated).
I am having this same issue none of the things I do in the new content are making this bar progress…it is very frustrating!
Have you unlocked Masteries in the first place? Have you selected Gliding Mastery as the track you wish to work on?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery#Mastery_track
Good luck.
One of their issues may also be that, unless you are doing Meta events in the HoT maps, most XP you gain will not make any dent in the bar, so it sometimes feels like nothing is being gained. I’ll do world bosses and get practically nothing (I wish XP would scale at that point, honestly).
Why lies? I remember my character saying that she died killed by a powerful Winetooth. That’s exactly what happened, so no lies there.
My toon explicitly stated somewhere in that chapter that it was in battle. It may have been during a conversation with another NPC (I talked to as many of them as I was able).
EDIT: Another thing that, honestly, bothered me about the chapter/whatever you want to call it, is that your toon says that Eir died “in battle”, or something to that effect, which bothered me because I clearly remember her death and she did not go down fighting or doing anything honorable. She tried to escape the Vinetooth, then Faolain stabbed her and before she knew it, she was impaled by the Mordrem and died without a whimper. I understand if she was injured and starved, but it was the most pathetic way to kill off such an iconic character, and many things said during the memorial felt like lies to me… I know that’s harsh, but it is my opinion. =(
I was looking for a drinking, feasting, boasting type of option for honoring her as well. I ended up carving the 4 blocks of ice and laying a rose at the statue at which point I was done. I felt a bit bummed that I didn’t get to do anything beyond that.
Yeah, I honestly didn’t see any other options. The green stars were over the heads of some NPCs, but talking to them didn’t progress the task. Even us non-Norn want feasting and drinking and boasting! =P
That Mordremoth soundtrack just MADE that fight. It was superbly crafted within the scope of the fight and environment.
You know its a good track when you get to the boss fight and the music starts and you audibly emote “it’s go time.”
Easily my favorite track since scarlet on the breachmaker.
It really did, including the Hearts and Minds fights. You have these very creepy, brutal fights yet the music is oddly subdued, but it still works. I think the last fights are the only memorable parts of HoT for me so far. Not even Eir’s death affected me (and I laughed out loud when my toon says that she “died in battle” during the LWS2 memorial. Really? She got stabbed, then stabbed again. She did not fight, did not go down with any honor. But, I digress.)
…Memorial, is that when it tells you to “honor Eir however you want”, you really do not get to pick and choose. Talking to the individuals did not up the bar, only carving the ice sculptures, tending to Garm, and putting a flower at her statue were viable to fill up the bar. We do not get to honor “however we want”, in the end.
Honestly (and this would be an in-character thing for my toon), I wish that it could have given the option to drink from the ale (as well as eat food). Getting super drunk probably would have been my toon’s way of coping with the loss, as well as probably partying as a result. Alcohol is all over the game, and is even one reason why GW2 is rated Teen. So why couldn’t we have made our characters drink what we want during the memorial? Norn do it all the time, culturally-speaking.
I do wish there was more iconic hairstyles for Norn that was not available just through makeover kits.
Nope just one map. The thing to the left is a guild hall and the one above the new map is the raid.
B-but…those look like the exact same size as Silverwastes or DT… That must be the largest guild hall and raid map ever in the game, if they are the same size as a full-fledged PvE map. ;/
you mean these zones? it’s a raid zone, and the one in the left is Lost precipice guild hall
Why is a guild hall and a raid on the world map, though? Even dungeons were their own instanced thing, so they don’t actually visibly show up on the map. Since I don’t do raids, I guess that spot will be forever blank for me?

No spoilers, please, as I literally just crash-landed into the new zone last night! But before I logged off, I zoomed out to get an idea of where in Tyria this new zone was, and to my surprise, there were three blank spaces with “80” over them, each the same size as any other decent map in the world.
Without giving plot spoilers, are these actually three legitimate maps for exploration? Or are one or two of them something else? They seem too large to be some non-PvE map. Or is this something we will find out as we progress through the Season?
Maclaine Diemer sounds like a poor man’s Jeremy Soule who crafted some magnificent pieces for Guild Wars and GW2. Those two songs you shared, however, are Maclaine’s high points so far.
Yeah, they really stole my attention during the boss fights. As I mentioned in my original post, the rest of the HoT music was hit-or-miss for me.
Since we’re talking about Caithe and the Egg, I have one question: Was Caithe around when the Egg was given to the Commander to protect? If not, then it’s possibly reasonable that the two characters ended up on the mutually-exclusive decision of “Only I can protect the Egg!” and it’s a genuine misunderstanding
But if she was around at the time, then, kitten I really wish I could have had my character rough Caithe up over that if not outright kill her, given the character of my Commander – After all, said commander was a Charr who killed her own father for the “I swear I betrayed everyone and lead you all on a godkitten goosechase for a good reason!” bullkitten, and her greatest fear was suffering a major, credibility destroying defeat (Which not being around during the disastrous invasion of Maguuma certainly would qualify as)… yeah.
I think the dissonance in the character, though, comes from the writers trying to backtrack. I wasn’t around during LS2, but if the fan reaction was “What? No! Why is my character being ‘I trust Caithe’ over this betrayal?!” then they might have ended up trying to rewrite it.
I actually felt a disconnect over the “Why does my character NOT trust Caithe?”. She goes from being a vital member of Destiny’s Edge, to being viewed as a back-stabbing traitor? I still trust Caithe, personally, and don’t think she deserves the hate the characters gave her. No one even tried to get an explanation out of her, they just outright made an assumption and labeled it as a “betrayal”. I do not agree with this, even after playing LWS2 and the HoT story all the way through. If I really wanted to, I could easily replay Season 2 and try to see what I might have missed. Reading a summary of S2 wouldn’t give me the context.
The name was the least bad-sounding option of the choices we got to vote for. It is what it is. The lesser of the 3-4 evils, in my opinion.
Maybe a Dev or some brave player can look into this. I noticed that I DC’d not long after reading the mail that was sent to us (“in error”, as Devs here have confirmed) from the Black Lion Trading Company. When I logged back in, that mail was still marked as “unread”, but I refused to click on it for fear that that was the reason I was DC’d in the first place.
Can someone confirm this, see if it was a reason for disconnects?
Okay, so I got DC’d, but then I logged back in just fine. Once I did, I saw that I had one unread mail in my inbox. It’s not the LWS3 mission starter, since that is marked on the top right hand corner of my screen. It might be the Black Lion mail that devs have said was sent in error. Thing is, I don’t want to go into my mail to see what it is, in case it was the BL mail that caused me to get DC’d. Maybe someone can look into that on the tech side of things?
I just got home from work and I can confirm that I also am a victim of this weird bug.
Since I am a PvE P/P Scrapper, I’m at least glad to see that Poison Volley is buffed a bit. Will have to see this in action when I jump into LWS3 after work.
I had finally gotten to the end of the HoT story this last weekend, and I almost was distracted during those brutal boss fights by the music. Probably my favorite tracks in all of HoT, as the rest either didn’t really “stick” with me or didn’t play long enough for me to appreciate or notice them.
I had hoped for more traditional/tribal sounding music in HoT instead of orchestral, and aspects of these two tracks at least satisfied some of my wish. Then there is that track in Auric Basin that reminds me way too strongly of something out of old Crash Bandicoot or Jak and Daxter!
There are plenty of threads about this situation being made in the Bugs forum. I would suggest you share your experiences there, as that is the appropriate forum for this.
So, Crystal Desert, perhaps?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/notes-from-rata-novus-partthree/
I hope so! I’ve been wanting to see a desert environment in GW2 for a long time, especially since I’ve never played GW1 and have heard lots of things about the Nightfall zone. (Plus I am spoiled by the variety of environments that were in WoW back when I played. )
The Devs have commented in a few threads in the Bugs forum stating that it is actually sent in error. It has something to do with Season 1 being unlocked, but no mail was technically supposed to be sent. So…that’s why it is empty.
My friend linked me this list, hopefully it works
Nice! NPCs have been able to do these actions forever, now we finally can! (Though Asura do cross their arms sometimes during idle animation. But now we can actively make any toon do it at will.)
The GW2 forum site has been running very slowly today, 7/26/2016, and on Google Chrome I occasionally get the following message:
502 – Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server.
There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server.
It even fails to respond on Firefox, so it is obviously a website issue, not a browser issue.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is caused by increased activity due to Living World Season 3’s release today, but I still think it’s worth it to bring attention to this issue, no matter how long it may last.
Why do we need scepter buffs? Is SHATTERSTONE not godly enough for y’all?
Incoming patch notes: shatterstone damage increased by 11%. Shatterstone CD increased by 0.25 s.
Sadly, I find I rarely use the Water Attunement unless I’m doing a dungeon run with other players and want to help heal. I’d rather see the basic skill 1 on Scepter of all elements be increased in damage so it becomes a viable weapon. Because so far Dagger and Staff still are the go-to weapons, with Fire being the be-all-end-all element. :/
Can anyone post the list of the emotes? I didn’t see them mentioned on the wiki update page.
Obviously RNG is doing just fine because I end up scrapping and selling every weapon and piece of armor I get from drops, events, etc. even with 113% Luck/Magic Find.
It is frustrating how sometimes it is hard to tell when it is night in certain maps versus dusk, or just really shadowed daytime. I wish that the night sky was darker – it’s not nearly dark enough. Yes, we should still see the stars and moon, but it should be closer to black instead of slightly darker shades of multiple colors. Also doesn’t mean that the landscape needs to be over-shadowed. Just want to see a darker night sky so it’s more obvious. =)
Just as an update we are taking this very seriously. We’re implementing some fixes internally and if they work out we’ll push those fixes live. This is an obscure bug so it’s taking time to fix, and we want to be sure it’s squashed for good.
Thank you all for bearing with us!
The fixes for this are scheduled to go out with the next release.
Thank you for the updates!
Having your reasons for betraying comrades doesn’t make it less of a betrayal.
I was more put off by the fact that I didn’t have the option to put her down rather than have her anywhere near the egg.
When I finished LWS2, I never got the impression that there was a “betrayal”. I guess it didn’t tell its story or presented the scenes well enough. Heck, I barely remember any of it even though I played through it on two different toons. Maybe I’m too spoiled by other video games’ story-telling.
Hmm, she stole the egg, which was fated for us to take, leaving us to chase her down. Its covered pretty explicitly in the last three chapters of season 2.
I just don’t remember the characters being angry at the end of Season 2. All that I really recall from the end of it was beating the shadow of the dragon, and then another abrupt ending. There just seems to be a big disconnect between events, character development, etc. in the Living Story that is making it easy for me to not remember or notice certain things. Like nothing is really grabbing my attention in a good way. I can’t quite explain it. So far, the boss fights in H&M is really my only positive feedback of the Living Story series, even if the fights frustrated me to no end.

I groan too when I see a HoT daily. I have HoT but you’d have to pay me irl money to get me to actually play there.
The story is the only reason I delved into the HoT maps (not that I liked the story, but it essentially was a form of motivation). As well as getting Mastery points.
But, yes, mining and lumbering seems a lot more difficult to do in HoT than foraging for some reason. Haven’t memorized the locations of those nodes.
Oh, and I forgot to list my biggest peeve of all in the entire HoT story: The pronunciation of “Tarir”. They keep saying “TAR-ir” and it is the worst sounding pronunciation I’ve ever heard. It’s like an American butchering Japanese words, to my ears. When I see “Tarir”, I hear “Tar-IR” in my mind. Maybe I’m just odd…?

One thing I’ll add is that, even though I did play through LWS1, 2, and now HoT, I never understood Canach. He kind of came out of nowhere for me, and I don’t remember hearing much about him in the past Living Story seasons.
He was actually quite important in season 1. As you can read here: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Canach
That felt like so long ago, I guess I never really noticed him. I feel like some of the story telling in the Living Stories are hit and miss, with character development also ranging in quality, but that’s just my opinion. If a character didn’t catch my attention, eh, that’s just me I guess.
One thing I’ll add is that, even though I did play through LWS1, 2, and now HoT, I never understood Canach. He kind of came out of nowhere for me, and I don’t remember hearing much about him in the past Living Story seasons. Marjory, Kasmeer, Taimi, Braham, and Rox made more appearances, and even if I am not a huge fan of most of them, I still know way more about them than I know about Canach. He seemed…boring, too. Nothing to interest me. And thinking everything my toon said to him was in reference to being a Sylvari in Mordy’s domain. (Can’t it be that I honestly wanted you to join me on this leg of the mission due to your skill, and not out of fear that you’ll turn?)
But, yeah, even at the end of LWS2 I never saw outright anger against Caithe. She’s a First Born and a member of Destiny’s Edge – surely she has her reasons?
First off, not quite sure if this necessarily needs to be put into the “Living Story” forum since this story is part of the expansion pack and works like our Personal Story to a degree. If that forum is the more appropriate one, I’d be more than happy to have a moderator move it for me.
Now, I’m sure I’m pretty far behind compared to a bunch of other players, but over the weekend I finally beat HoT’s story. Here are my thoughts, and anyone is free to chime in on these topics:
1.) The string of boss fights in “Hearts and Minds” were absolutely brutal. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though. It felt like a one-man-army equivalent of the group boss fights. For this mission chapter, I chose Braham and Caithe. Eir/Garm wasn’t too bad, though I kept getting caught in fire that magically followed me. And the Pale Tree…holy crap! She was terrifying! I bet if I went in with a group, we could have killed the minions before they could reach her, and therefore keep her from spamming her ring attacks on steroids, haha. But Mordy himself… That was rather intense.
One thing I will say is that the boss fights in “Hearts and Minds” actually had the best music I’ve heard in all of HoT. Definitely makes me want to find those tracks on YouTube and listen in detail.
2.) I still do not understand the hate towards Caithe. Every time my character would say something rude to her, about not trusting her, and how he’ll make her pay if she crosses him again, I groaned out loud and told my toon to shut up. I’ve played all of the LW stories so far, and really never saw one hint that my toon was angry at Caithe. Confused, yes, not knowing why she was taking the egg or where she was taking it, but never anger and feeling “betrayed”. It was the one aspect of the HoT story that made zero sense to me.
3.) I disliked how the story ended with a cliff-hanger. And it wasn’t even a good cliff-hanger. I expected, after the final cutscene, that I’d get a little instanced bit to talk with my team and follow-up with them, but not even that happened. The ending just felt “empty”, regardless of the big stuff that happened. We seriously need to wait for LWS3 to start (in a day) to get a follow-up to beating Mordremoth, saving Glint’s egg, and killing Trahearne? For me, I guess it’s not so bad since LWS3 is starting shortly, but for people who ran through the story right after HoT’s release would have been waiting all these months with that awful cliffhanger hanging over them. I just think it could have been implemented better.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. What are yours?
Sorry for the bad joke.
Its a skill:

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I never really use the Tool Kit, so didn’t notice it.
Exactly, if Norn were supposed to look like that, then the women should as well. The women look just like tall human women, whereas the men do have some odd proportions. One thing that bugs me is how their necks stick forward so much (and are also very short necked). I can never imagine making a male Norn because none of the design choices appeal to me. But I’m more than happy to make an overweight (as much as is possible in this game) male Human, because at least they don’t look oddly built.
Just like the title says: If I get a bunch of account/soul-bound Collection items, am I able to sell them without messing up the Collection? I got a few from participating in Auric Basin events and meta, but they are currently just clogging up my inventory. Same with any items I receive/purchase for the Scrapper Fix’r’Upper achievement.
Thanks!
Engies already have an unlimited uses crowbar.
Is there a crowbar skin for hammer? Because I know that even the melee kit for Engis is a wrench, and the special hammer you get when you unlock Scrapper is also a wrench.
I’m amazed that even I, a very casual PvE’r who is only on for an hour or two a day, was able to make Mawdrey. It’s very time-consuming, but it certainly felt like the most doable of the ascended things.
I completely agree with you, OP! So many armor designs just don’t look as good on Charr, especially medium armor in my opinion. I also am frustrated at how female Charr don’t get their own designs. No, they don’t need to be revealing or have fake boobs in them, but I wish there was at least something to differentiate the two sexes, armor-wise. Mainly because, if I make a Charr, it’s going to be female.
Awesome! Now I don’t have to physically take it out, then put it back in. Although, I suppose I could also put it in the free shared inventory slot… >.>
I was able to complete my Elite spec within the past month, and as a result I now have 33 extra HPs that I can’t do anything with. Are these meant to sit around, in the event that ANet creates more Elite specs for classes? Or is there something we are meant to do with the extra points right now?
Thanks!
…Ahaha! It took me a second to get the reference! XD That’s awesome.
I only did the AB events (and ended up participating in the meta) because I needed to level up my Nuhoch mastery in order to proceed in the HoT story. But I passed on the rest due to ending up not having the time. I haven’t even been able to even GET to the area where Shooting Gallery is, due to being killed en route more than once. =(
I am principly a solo PvE’r who will do casual dungeon runs, and tried fractals back before the recent changes were made. Which means that raids could be hit-or-miss for me. And after reading up on the ANet here and other people’s thoughts about the implications of LWS3, I can say that I’m one of the players who isn’t too excited about this. Yes, nothing will be “gated” if you haven’t done the raid, but gated content is not the same as experience vs synopsis. Those of us who did not run the raid or aren’t interested in it can still play LWS3, but the only way we will learn about the story connected to the raid is by watching/reading the synposis that will be in S3 and/or looking it up online in our free time. Which, to me, even if it isn’t something that will take any time or effort, still seems like a strange story choice.
Example: Dungeons have stories and lore that tie in to the bigger picture, but no where, beyond the little mail messages you get when you hit the respective level for that dungeon, is that dungeon’s story referenced to much degree in the PvE environment. You can go through your Personal Story, defeat Zhaitan, and the dungeon stories contribute very little beyond simply telling you what the members of Destiny’s Edge were doing while you were off gallivanting with your Order.
Now, with LWS3, it sounds like the raid will be heavily referenced, unlike the dungeons of core Tyria.

What if someone a) doesn’t have a big enough guild to have a Guild Hall or b) for some reason their Guild Hall doesn’t have gathering nodes?
I think it would be cool to see some actual curly hair for humans (think Merida from “Brave”).
But, yeah, that’s strange, OP, to know that that person had an unintended hairstyle that was redacted, but it stayed on their toon!
Aaaand…now I finally find out that Faolain is still “alive”, just turned into a creepy-as-hell minion. Not looking forward to fighting her, which I’m sure will happen eventually. I just yesterday played through all of the AB story missions.
