When they announced 400 hero points for the elite specs I thought “Ah, a challenge”, especially as I have a character of every class.
Now that challenge has been stolen by whiners – the very same whiners that will be complaining that they have nothing left to do in a week’s time…..You would have thought Anet would have learned by now – a bunch of vocal whiners complain about something new being too hard so Anet make it easier and then those very same whiners complain they have nothing left to do because it was too easy.
It has happened every time Anet have released new content and will carry on happening until Anet say “Hey you keep saying you wanted challenges”.
You can still farm every Hero Point, no one is stopping you.
6/10, 5/10 before the change.
It just seems like getting upset about the changes because a person has gotten their spec is very, very petty.
When all a person has is superiority in a video game they react poorly when that’s taken away from them.
I just unlocked Glint and it’s a little fiddly ATM, I’ll get used to it though.
It’s going to make it a lot more enjoyable from tomorrow onwards, at least for me.
actually the patch is out NOW. I just got my chronomancer fully unlocked after the most recent update.
I’m in bed for the night, so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow
It’s going to make it a lot more enjoyable from tomorrow onwards, at least for me.
You simply need to understand you’re the minority, most people can’t play all day, every day. Content will never be balanced around you.
If you had fun doing them then you lost nothing.
You wasted your own time, and it’s not healthy to play that much.
You know when a release is going on, and the days coming afterwards. The most people is enjoying the game. Do you know who spends most time on the forums? The one who’s not pleased. I believe waay more felt the original design of elit specs was good already.
And now arenanet took away the pride of their achievment.
Playing 10 hours a day isn’t anything to be proud of though, and ANet can’t balance systems around people with that much free time as most people don’t. Grinding easy content isn’t an achievement, killing a raid boss world first, one takes unemployment and one takes skill and practise.
Then how did you get nearly 400 HPs? You must have done WvW or Tyria?
The only ones I can’t get to are like the one or two that are in poison regions, and maybe one or two that you need leyline gliding for? Plus the 100 or so points I started with.
Well there you go, you started with 100. So you’ve played less than you made it seem by saying you nearly had 400. Mystery solved.
Sure, but considering the amount of XP you need just to access most of the hero points I know you’ve been playing a lot, if you want to tell me the XP fairy grinded for you while you slept then you got me, I can’t prove otherwise.
? I only have the 6 mastery levels.
Then how did you get nearly 400 HPs? You must have done WvW or Tyria?
All that stuff you listed is irrelevant, you’ve still nearly earned 400 HP since release thus you have not been playing the expansion casually. And I’m not overestimating anything, it has been all I’ve been working on since release so I know exactly how much time it takes and you’re playing considerably more than me, and I’ve been playing more than the average casual.
Regardless of how much you actually played, there is no way for you to know how much I’ve played. You’re making an awful lot of assumptions. Which aren’t true. And you refuse to take people’s word for it as if they’re lying. That’s no way to hold an argument.
Sure, but considering the amount of XP you need just to access most of the hero points I know you’ve been playing a lot, if you want to tell me the XP fairy grinded for you while you slept then you got me, I can’t prove otherwise.
Bad decision, just bad. Sad when a company has to listen to a handful of whiners on forums.
The rest of the hero points won’t feel half as accomplished or important, if only for the map completion.
We live in an age of social media where a few upset people can spread falsehoods that can’t amplified by liked minds and soon those who don’t know better join in.
The result is in a few weeks the conversation will change to “HoT isn’t worth the cost because I unlocked everything to quickly”.
" A few ", that’s cute. Casual players are the majority in most MMOs, especially GW2 so you can bet your hide more people are for this change than against.
I’m not sure how you can class yourself as casual if you already have nearly 400 HP since HoT release.
Hm… Lets see… I spend hours idling in Lion’s Arch, or wherever I am really, just talking to people. I only have 3 ascended armor pieces and no ascended weapons. I have 500 in only one crafting discipline. I have a severe distaste for anything grindy, and therefore avoid things like dungeon farming for gold. I have two alts, neither of which I play very often. World completion on my main is less than 50%. I also have barely played the game at all before the expansion came out, because I ran out of fun stuff to do. I complained about the idea that the minimum requirment for raids would be full ascended.
Yeah… I’m fairly sure I’m casual. I’m fairly sure you’re overestimating the amount of effort needed to get the points.
All that stuff you listed is irrelevant, you’ve still nearly earned 400 HP since release thus you have not been playing the expansion casually. 250 means one HoT HP Challenge on top of full HP complete from core Tyria. For those of us who have done that in core Tyria, I like it. For those who instalevel a new character, it would now take 7 HoT HP Challenges Vs 10 if they don’t go back to core Tyria.
It’s … fairish. This was becoming a thorn, so to speak, in the side of the expansion launch. But for the love of the six Gods don’t back off the Mastery system.
Actually, you have to spend all those hero points in everything else, BEFORE you even have the chance to unlock the elite spec and start training it. So, no, it doesn’t take 7 hp challenges.
No. You get enough HP from leveling to unlock everything on your character including the original 5 specializations. So you start with 0 going into HoT if you haven’t done any HP Challenges in core Tyria. HPCs in Hot are 40 points each so 250 divided by 40 is 6 and change so round up to 7.
10, not 30. It’ll take 25.
The biggest problem was gating most of the hero points with masteries, had they not done that 400 wouldn’t have been as bad.
You still have the same number of HP you earned before. You also still have the option to not play the elite spekittenil you have earned 400 points.
What on earth makes you think a “refund” makes me feel better about putting in effort that gives absolutely nothing?
And “pretending it still costs 400 hero points” is incredibly short sighted. Since other people are still getting the same stuff I get. Except they don’t get to lift a finger for it.
No one forced you to play all day, every day since release.
I’m sad at how many people are upset simply because others will now get their elite specs a little faster, our happiness should not cause you pain.
Am I the only “casual” who dislikes this change? I was quite enjoying playing the game for a few days working to unlock it. I almost got to 400 points too. And now all that hard work is being invalidated because a bunch of people want instant gratification. If you play casual, stuff takes longer. I like it that way.
Plus, the whole “QQ wins again” makes me fear for the future.
I’m not sure how you can class yourself as casual if you already have nearly 400 HP since HoT release.
It’s the other way around, the super hardcore, play all day type people are the 1%. You can’t balance a system around people who do a week’s worth of gaming in a day or two.
Well what will casuals cry out next? Raids too hard? No problemo lets nerf it… It took like like 3 hours to get those 400 points what was so kitten that? I srsly hope this was very last step back thx to buckets of tears.
3 hours? You’re adorable.
What about refunding the 200+ I already spent ?
This please.
ITT: I’m no longer a special snowflake because others will soon have their elite spec and this upsets me.

I was thinking 200 before the announcement, 250 is definitely reasonable though.
I really hope this is fixed soon.
I don’t. It’s going to allow me to enjoy the game a lot more.
Thank you, you’ve made many of us very happy.
I couldn’t be happier, 400 was too much, 250 is reasonable.
I’ve given up, I can’t be bothered to keep doing it only to have it fail. This expansion just refuses to be fun.
Same problem but further into the quest, on the 3rd bit the same happened to me.
For some reason the green map marker wasn’t anywhere near the actual location, no wonder I couldn’t find it! Someone had to show me from the guild.
I finally find a pack of 3 mobs which I farm for the stuff, but now I’m completely lost trying to find the path, I have ran around this cave 50x trying to find the path to Rata but I just can’t. It’s like you made the layouts as confusing as possible for unknown reason :/
Is anyone else having issues with this quest? Nothing shows up on the map, I have no idea where to go, where the mobs are I need to kill, where the NPCs I need to speak to are. I’m just running around aimlessly getting more and more frustrated because I have no direction at all.
I would just half the amount needed so you can skip the ones gated behind masteries, it would help so much.

Yeah I was being generous I guess, they really didn’t think this through at all.

Now that I’ve spent 20 hours grinding out my first elite spec, this makes me wonder quite a bit about something: future content.
Currently, most of the hero points spawn a champion + adds, many of which are not the same pushovers they once were. This is fine, assuming that there are other players who are around to help you. But even by yourself, you’ll encounter champions with waves of adds.
Problem is, most of the HoT maps I play are already nearly a ghost town. Send out the call for help, and you’ll get 1 or 2 people in the space of 10 minutes if you’re lucky. After discovering this fact, I had to resolve to burn through all the specialization points before the maps became too dead to function.
It is also annoying how much of the map specific features are dependent on ill-timed global events. Especially when they lock away hero points behind them. Heck, the only reason why I was able to do an e-spec in 20 hours is because someone else made a guide on how to do it, and I got lucky and had a somewhat coordinated hero-point train running map at one point.
I feel bad for anyone who tries to get these points in a few months.
27% of my elite spec….. :/
I honestly don’t know.
This is a must, it’s going to get harder and harder to find groups to do these Hero Points as it is.
The complaints are completely warranted, the expansion is not very good. That being said there’s no need to flame the devs, we can complain without losing out minds. I really hope they make some swift changes though.

I just wonder what’s going to happen when the new maps become less popular, I imagine getting them on alts is going to suck.
HoT is far from perfect, don’t be such a sad fanboy, it’s embarrassing. Colin most definitely shouldn’t ignore paying customers, nor will he because he’s not a moron. No one will quit if the grinds are reduced, but people will quit if they’re not.
Remove all 10/10 and 0/10 and you get somewhat “real” score.
I agree, giving it 10 is just as stupid as giving it 0.
So unless you buy directly from anet and pay their blatant rip off price they’ll take away what you payed for without a second thought. LOL anet, way to make yourselves look worse.
I paid £28 from Amazon which was £7 cheaper than ANet.
Kinguin are a grey market reseller and ANet warned against buying from any of those sites.
My only problem right now is that barely any of it is soloable.
If there aren’t a lot of players around you can’t get anything done..There is “Party” option in this game if you don’t know yet. You can have 5 people to group together. Try it. It’s not a single player game btw.
This post made you look really silly.
Title, I make the bag window a size I like and then it changes itself when I close and re open it, this has nearly all the time and is very annoying.
I’ve already gone through support attempting a refund. They will tell you that they will disable your account access in general if you do; your entire account is now held behind that $50 paywall.
Disgusting business, really.
That’s so shady.
