I had 80-110 fps in pvp today with ultra settings that is my definition of fine.
In what type of PvP? sPvP sure, totally doable. EOTM XP train, certainly doable, zerg v zerg in WvW? I’d like to see that, especially if by ultra you mean best appearance. And I’m not talking about sitting in base, I mean when the action cracks off. The same goes for world bosses, standing around waiting and getting 60fps+ isn’t hard, but when it spawns and everyone is casting it’s a different matter. I’ve yet to meet anyone who can play on best appearance and maintain 60fps+ in the scenarios I outlined, I’m all for new personal firsts though.

When I first started playing I was really shocked by the lack of mounts, but the more I played the more I realised they’re not needed.
The only event that I ever notice my framerate drop in is the Svanir Shaman boss.
That’s by far the worst fight for performance, but every world boss drops your frame rate significantly, even if you don’t notice it. For people like me who do notice going from 60fps – 25 – 30fps (15fps Frozen Maw) it’s not fun. I love the game, and I love group content but dealing with such choppy gameplay is not fun. If the devs won’t spend the time and money to upgrade the engine, they could at least give us more extensive video options, let us control how many players spell effects we see like the MMO Rift does, that really helps and honestly I don’t need to see other peoples projectiles flying past my ears if it means poor performance.
i think you misunderstood. nobody cares about texture quality. what people care about is the major performance increase from dx 12.
…seriously, so ppl whine about performance problems when they have an outdated computer…..and they want a higher DX version that in no way does anything good for GW2?
oh and if nobody cares about it, am i nobody then?
No offence, but you have no clue what you’re on about. Taking WoW for example, DX11 is almost a 50% boost over DX9, that’s massive, there’s no other word for it. And early benchmarks are showing a similar boost going from DX11 to DX12, so that should tell you just how huge of an increase going from DX9 to DX12 would be. It would make the game so much more enjoyable. I personally want to live in a world where I can max the game out and not lose half my frame rate during world bosses if I’m using good enough hardware.
Hell, I’d take DX11, it would massively improve the game and an expansion is the perfect time to do an engine upgrade, it worked out great for WoW when they went to DX11 in Cataclysm. The poor performance is the biggest issue I have with this game, being able to maintain 60fps in all scenarios is very important to people who keep their hardware current, and it’s just not possible in GW2. World Bosses absolutely tank the frame rate, even on modest settings. And as of the 31st patch I have noticed a considerable drop, as have many others if the technical forum are anything to go by. When you’re used to 60fps without dips playing a game that drops to 25 – 30fps regularly is a bitter pill to swallow.
Playing on a four-year-old laptop with a conbination of low/med settings and typically getting 15-20 fps. Game is totally playable, don’t know what your problem is. Granted, world bosses get a little choppy, but everything else (including zergs in WvW) is fine enough.
You’re right, people get used to what they have. Those of us with low-spec computers know that this game is perfectly playable and enjoy the kitten out of it. Some people with high-spec computers are so hyper-sensitive that they lose their kitten over a mere temporary drop in fps.
As an aside, I play a lot of PVP and WvW. And, while I’m not the best player around, I’m typically pretty okay. I use a keyboard, a low-spec computer and no mouse. Makes me giggle when I wipe the floor with all these high-spec people.
15-20fps isn’t playable to anyone who’s used to better, I literally would rather not play than play like that, to me it’s unplayable because I’m used to 60fps rock solid in every game I play because I keep my hardware current. If a game doesn’t run great on the best hardware there’s an issue, in GW2 case it’s the outdated engine the doesn’t take advantage of modern hardware, thus the poor performance. Just because you’re used to slideshow FPS doesn’t mean the game is fine, it just means you’re used to it and don’t know any better. People like you give developers a get out of jail free card because they know you’ll swallow whatever they serve up, which in turn makes the experience worse for those of us who take our hobby seriously and expect better.
Slide show, I don’t know what your problem is but even when I go down to 4 – 6 fps I don’t see a slide show, everything is smooth as silk, same as when I have higher fps. Granted I also have a multitabbed session of Chrome and iTunes running at the same time as GW2, so that causes some of the issues(plus that fact that one of my original Cross-Fire cards croaked and I haven’t been able to replace with a newer single card yet, I don’t have issues.
P.S. – When I had the Cross-Fire running I could run GW2, Chrome and Second Life(which is super graphics intensive and kills normal comps all at the same time, and still have decent fps in GW2). Oh wait, full-screen windowed mode helps a great deal as well.
4-6fps… “smooth as silk”? Stop trolling me
15-20fps isn’t playable to anyone who’s used to better, …
No, it is playable, you just choose not to.
Not in my opinion it’s not, unless you consider loading the game and moving around while counting the individual frames “playable”. As I said, if my options were to play like that or not play at all I’d rather not play, as it wouldn’t be enjoyable. And I don’t know why people are getting angry that we want the devs to improve the performance, it would benefit people with mid tier machines as well, not just those of us with good computers. The expansion was the perfect time to do an engine upgrade, WoW did it for their Cataclysm expansion and it improved the game immensely. If you’re happy playing at low frame rate with a trackpad, good for you, but some of us aim for higher than that and us wanting more from the game doesn’t affect you at all, if anything it will benefit you as well (not that you’d notice).

I lost 15fps after the 31st patch as well.
I lost 15fps during world bosses after the 31st patch.
60fps without dips is always the goal, anything less and you may as well buy a console.
The game gets very choppy during world bosses and WvW, no matter how good your hardware is. Dropping down to 25fps with high end hardware isn’t acceptable. The reason they haven’t bothered upgrading the engine is because of people like the ones in this thread who claim the game runs “fine” on their low spec laptop, when in reality they’re getting 15fps which is unplayable but they’re used to it so it seems OK. WoW upgraded from DX9 to DX11 during an expansion and it greatly improved the frame rate, so there’s no reason Anet couldn’t do the same.
I lost 15 – 20fps after the 31st update.

Bump. Can we get an update or confirmation someone is still working on this please.
Yes please, world bosses are noticeably more choppy due to a rather significant fps drop since the 31st patch.
I’m wondering how everyone who bought the game during the last sale is liking the game so far? I have been playing a lot this past month and I’m really, really enjoying the game. I bought it because I had an MMO itch after not playing one in so many years, but I never expected to enjoy it so much. I played WoW for over 5 years back in the day (started on day one) and I expected GW2 to be different enough to not get boring fast but I never expected it to be superior in any aspect but I can safely say I was wrong, GW2 definitely does some things better which I wasn’t ready for.
I do miss certain things though, that I wish would be added to GW2. Here is a laundry list of things I’d like to see in GW2s future:
. Engine upgrade, when WoW went from DX9 to DX11 and implemented a 64bit client the frame rate improved by around 25, which was very noticeable. I feel this would be a HUGE benefit to GW2, especially for world bosses and WvW. I have a very good PC but my frame rate absolutely tanks on certain encounters, no matter the video settings.
. A “use all” option for certain items, for example luck, having to spam click 100 of them is really annoying.
. Dual spec, a massive QoL feature, being able to swap traits, gear, outfits etc on the fly would be really great, and it’s something I got used to having from other MMOs.
. An option to buy custom gem amounts with real money, if I want to spend £10 on gems I should be able to, not a massive deal but it would be nice.
. Custom outfits, I want to be able to select items for each slot and save them as an outfit that I can swap to whenever I want.
. Make the Silverwastes Crests and keys into currency, I just ran into this issue today when playing my alt and realizing I had no crests or keys on her, it seems odd they wouldn’t be classified as currency. I’m guessing they take up a lot of space for veteran players.
. Option to disable other players spell effects, with a slider. Rift has this and it really helps in areas with large amounts of players. You could add a slider for how many players you wish to see spells from, for example 5, 10, 15, 20, unlimited. Personally I’d happily lower this slider if it meant better performance. You could also add an option for beneficial spells to always show, regardless of limit you set.
I’m sure there’s more stuff I’d like but that’s all I can think of now, if there’s anything else you really miss from other MMOs, or think would be great for GW2 post them, you never know.
I’ve been having the same problem since the March 31 patch, getting about half my usual fps. Even at the lowest possible graphic settings there’s no improvement.
Exactly the same here, since the 31st patch I have lost 15 – 20fps, which is most noticeable during World Bosses as they’re extremely choppy now, even if I lower the settings.

Is there an ETA on a fix for the camera position constantly resetting? It’s really annoying having to zoom out all the time.
WoW managed to make the jump from DX9 to DX11 so I don’t know why GW2 can’t do the same, I gained 25fps when Blizzard updated their engine and client to 64bit. It would be a massive improvement to the game.
I’ve lost about 10fps since the latest patch, and even before it wasn’t great. On the Frozen Maw I drop to 15fps, other World Bosses between 25fps & 45fps depending on which one and it’s just not fun playing at such low frame rates.
I’m running mostly low / medium settings on a high end rig so I shouldn’t have such massive drops, if there’s anything you can do to improve the performance, ANET, please do so.

I lost about 10 – 15fps since the patch.

Things are stable again. My working hypothesis is that there is a bug in the “catch up” code. It’s not really necessarily bad for a map to exceed 100% CPU for a short period of time – the game is very tolerant of small lag even in WvW battles. But I’m wondering if sometimes a map starts working hard to fix a tiny blip which actually makes things worse for several minutes. If that’s the case it would certainly show up in big fights. I’ve lowered the map cap to keep CPU below 85%-ish to see if there are fewer lag spikes.
Is there anything that can be done about World Boss frame rate lag? It seems worse lately and it wasn’t great before. 15fps on Frozen Maw with an i5 3570k @ 4.5GHz and a GTX 970 isn’t great, especially considering I’ve lowered my settings to a mix of low/medium.
We killed the boss, got the chest/gold but no XP. As a level 36 that makes me a sad panda.
I’ve tried relogging, switching character and nothing is helping. My group even finished that part of the quest but I’m still bugged, I really don’t want to have to do this all again :/
I got DC during the “board the chopper” bit and now when I rejoined I can’t see or use any WPs, and I can’t get to the rest of the group.
Bump. If anyone knows how to troubleshoot the crash file please do so.
I’m getting the same issue, freezing with “not responding” or CTD with the error box.

I’m also getting this very often, as well as “not responding” errors.

Hi guys,
I’ve been having a terrible time with the game since the 16th patch, I either crash to desktop where the serious error window pops up, or the game just freezes and stops responding so I have to close the process. I don’t have any issues with any other game and my PC is in tip top shape. I have tried doing a client repair but it didn’t help.
I play on very modest settings considering how good my PC is: http://i.imgur.com/pWsBu3b.jpg

I started playing during the 75% off sale so maybe this has been discussed but I would like the ability to save video setting presets so I can quickly swap between “solo”, “wvw” or “world boss” presets with varying graphics settings to achieve optimal frame rate for whatever content I’m doing at the time.
We have indeed noticed performance issues on the latest release.
We performed optimizations on our post processing effect pipeline, which were released on Wednesday. Our guys also put a lot of hard work optimizing the new camera collision code. These changes were released yesterday.
Although these changes have improved performance we still haven’t solved the issue you guys are experiencing.
We have top men working on it right now! we will get to the bottom of this! Thanks you guys for your patience.
Wonderful news! Any extra frame rate would be really great for WvW and World Bosses especially. A guy on Reddit made a video showing the UI drops here: https://youtu.be/JTofdajvMoo
Support replied to me, they seems to think the FPS issue is OUR fault.
Very few companies will admit a problem is on their end even when the entire community knows it to be true. Just look at Diablo III, it has had performance issues since day one that have gone ignored.
If they had a test server most of these issues would have been discovered in 5 minutes. My game has been crashing and freezing constantly since the 16th.
So I’m crashing to desktop which brings up the serious error box and now I’m also getting GW2 not responding as well which means I have to close it from the task manager. It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t mean you lose credit in BGs, or get kicked out of the world boss map you were doing.
I keep getting the “not responding” problem randomly while playing ever since the 16th patch, to keep missing out on loot and credit because of this issue is really starting to ruin the game for me.
This seems really stupid to me, I DC’d and rejoined instantly but I got nothing for the match. Considering how unstable the game is since the 16th patch this is going to get extremely annoying missing out on rewards multiple times per day.
I’m crashing all the time since the 16th patch, never before. The game is almost unplayable right now, or at least just not fun to play when you keep losing loot.
For me it’s totally random but it’s happening very often. I lost so much loot today from world bosses that I just logged off angry. Up until the 16th I’d not crashed once.
I’m crashing and disconnecting all the kitten time since the latest patch, it has completely ruined the game for me.
I had a BSOD today as well for the first time, GTX 970.
Well I’m done for the night, boss was on 20% and I crash for the 10th time since the patch (never before) and I lost the rewards, I really can’t be bothered any more.
I have crashed about 5 times since the patch with a “serious error”, I have sent reports to ANET each time. I asked in my dungeon group and someone else had the same issue since the patch so I guess it’s not just me. I tried doing a game repair which helped for a few hours but I just crashed again.
I have also disconnected a few times today which never normally happens.
