As ownwer and user of a basic old Razer Naga i’d suggest the logithech g600.

If not for the hardware itself which as far as i understand is not too far from each other, but mostly for the software, the drivers.

My razer software works, but is currently hung on an update which can’t complete :S

Fact is that most of the guides i’ve read so far talks about pvp mostly, while i don’t care about that aspect of the game. I know, i’m minority :/

Really nice post, i’ve bought this game because i wasn’t expecting gear grind, but a good skills driven game, with a lot of emphasis on styles collection instead.

I would have expected grind for new skills, to make it more similar to gw1 system, which is godly, instead we had ascendant gear and FotM.

I’m just disappointed. Maybe as some one suggested i’ll just go back to gw1 and drop gw2 for a while.

Please for the love of Grenth, stop trying to turn this game into GW1. I understand that you all loved the game, I get it, but guess what? It still exists. If you want to play GW1, go play it. GW2 is its own game, it will have differences. You may not like or appreciate those differences and you are free to make that known, but please stop saying “because GW1 was this way, GW2 needs to be too.” They are two different games, and GW2 does not have the same design philosophy as GW1. This is a GOOD thing, it makes the game unique and worth playing for what it is.

Oh A.Net is just waiting for PR people with your skills at making them losing customers for their newest product.

Also please don’t cry for a phantom/undocumented/stealth nerf you could suddenly notice in your drop rates in the future, you’ll just be unlucky. A rare case in statistics, but yet possible. It happens.

The Female Human epidemic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MrNobody.4357

I swear every other player I see is a female human. I also know this game has an overwhelming majority of its playerbase being male. I’ve tried to ask in map chat a few times why so many gentlemen play female characters but I always seem to get really defensive replies or outright attacks calling me “gay” for looking at a male character’s butt all day (what?). Maybe I just have my priorities wrong but I dont think I could actually effectively play this game by staring at the posterior of my character.

But I digress. What is the allure of female humans characters and why are there so many males playing them?

Any question has an easy answer:
- because most human male models kittens badly.

…to me these screen you all posted mostly look worse than standard client rendering, with few exceptions.

Mostly is about a shifted and compressed gamma, which naturally leads to more saturated colours (RGB represented ofc) , deeper blacks, more contrast and thus less dynamic range.

I do prefer much better the muted colours of the standard rendering than most of these experimentations, which i agree are funny to play with, but that rarely can bring something good.

PS: I’m a photographer, so my opinion is biased.

I don’t think one needs to be a photographer to form an opinion about any picture just how you don’t need to be a professional chef to appreciate good food.

For all i could know your photography could be the worst i have ever seen.

Thx for the compliments, you must live with that idea then as i won’t show any of my pictures to not link my id to a game id.

But aside the personal judgements you’d like to point out what i mean instead is that while the tool is good i’ve so far rarely seen a good utilization of it, while they mostly end up in experimenting shadows halos and over-saturation, and being the latter surely a defect in any image.

Normal GW2 rendering apply a tonal selective desaturation, vibrance and muted colours.
This is in the design intent, for purposely resembles a water colours look.

@Gazareth.7230

Thirdly I really don’t understand steffan’s image. Why is he comparing his 1080p image to a 1580×889? Of course a 1080p image should have a greater FoV, as the screen is generally larger.

The image is scaled down to overlay the geometry composition on the larger FoV image, so you can compare the gain visually.

Simple as that… wasn’t too much.

Like i did with these (cam distance, orientation and position are always the same)

And yet i don’t understand why starting from a 1:1 square screen they are cutting vFoV(and thus hFoV along) when the screen goes wider in AR :/

Why don’t you keep it constant and modulate only hFoV?
At least on a single screen setup.

Definitely a good change.

After looking at this above and my screens (http://imgur.com/a/StY5S/) i’m even more convinced that thae problem is that

the client can not make a difference from a single to a multiple screen

and thus when going a bove a certain AR even on single screen it shrinks the FoV protectively expecting like there really was more for each side, because in those cases a too much wide FoV (enough for 3 displays side by side) couldn’t be correctly represented by the client gfx engine.

Attunement Swapping is to Blame

in Elementalist

Posted by: MrNobody.4357

MrNobody.4357

The problem is thet with kits or weapon swapping you get a real strategically different set of skills, while swapping attunement you stick with skills using the same range, so it doesn’t really change anything strategically, but it rather enlarges your active skill set so that the impact of their cd is partially lifted.

So in my opinion it can only be solved in 2 ways:

a) letting us swap weapons, sending all our attunements in long cd, along with the weapon swap cd (as previously suggested by some one else i think, best soft solution)

b) changing radically how any attunement make every single weapon behaves, so that each attunement could bring new strategic choices, like using a real different weapons would do (too hard, time consuming to implement and balance now)

Eg. i wear style A,

transmute B over to A, (losing A)
then i earn C
i transmute C over to B (losing B)
i get bored of C… B was really nice, then i have to go and grind B another time :OOOOO

and this for every old style i had earned and wish i could use again some time later.

The argument most used in this case is that the game need sinks, but this is rather a con, if we want to speak technically.

I did notice a pretty significant shift in the Gold->Gems though. As I recall there was a time not too long ago where 25s got you 100 gems. Now it seems you need to pay 84s for 100 gems. Not that there’s anything worth buying in the shop anyway, but it is a little unnerving to see such differences.

I believe Gems price follows a classic offer/demand equation, so if most of the people will buy gems with gold then the gem price will rise because there is little offer, and if this trend continue the gem price will reach to a point where buying it with gold will be too much time consuming (to produce enough gold in game activities) and thus buying gems with cash will be more profitable.

Also you might add that while gem offer stays constant or rise slowly, the gold amount, the offer of gold, rise more easily and faster.

If it is still not clear to anyone how buggy FoV is i made some test with custom resolutions:

- At 1600*1200 it looks fine, it might be 65 degrees.
- At 1920*1200 it looks bad, it adds little on the side, maybe 67°? … and cut your vertical FoV badly
- At 1920*828 (a custom res to try getting 90° of FoV) it adds large chunks on the sides, but only squish the vertical FoV a little. I’m playnig with this currently, it feels better, but i misss UI space badly, and it is a little like wearing a visor all the time.

http://imgur.com/a/Jcn1E

What i couldn’t try is to make a screen with 3 monitors at 1920*1200, or a wopping total of 5760*1200.
In my opinion this will look exactly like a single 1920*1200, multiplied times 3 horizontally.
I’ve found this and it might confirm it http://i.imgur.com/DLcin.jpg

If you have 3 monitors can you test a screen at such resolution and compare it with a screen with an equivalent proportion on a single monitor at custom res of 1920*400?

I’m pretty surre they are going to look different, bugging on the single monitor for istance, but i’d like a proof to show them

There will not be an option to change FOV in the future according to Jon Peters, because it hurts their artistical pride and it weighs alot heavier than what their customers feels about their game.

Source external link: http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/developer-corner-jon-peters-on-camera-and-fov-field-of-view/43896/

Too bad what he said there is blatantly incorrect. He said “The FoV is 75”.
Users have tested different aspect ratios and both the horizontal and the vertical FoV change depending on it (try a wide vs tall window). And ff he means 75 diagonal FoV, that means the horizontal/vertical FoVs are miniscule (closer to 45/60) and totally unlike any of the games he mentioned.

Try playing the game in square window instead of full 16:9, you’ll feel much less cramped and look much less on the ground.

Exactly, the FoV is perfect for 4:3 displays, while it bugs on wide displays
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FoV-math-is-bugged-on-widescreens

as someone in that thread said, probably they don’t have any wide display but only 4:3 CRT so they cannot repeat the issue.

But i couln’t care more on what the designer artistically thinks if that is hurting my eyes.
There is a bug and they should solve it, period.

If they don’t consider this a bug then i’ll better wait for a console version, probably ready when the e-sport thingy is finalized, i’ve read on console displays, distant 2-3m from the player, the FoV plays actualy nice as any other console game does with this incredibly similar FoV.

Warriors?

Posted by: MrNobody.4357

MrNobody.4357

There is so much stupid in this thread is unbeleivable

Warriors are the best bar none for combo finishers. Banners are some of the best support in the game. Warriors can do much more then just dps and if you would rather bring a Ranger then a Warrior then you know nothing about either class.

It does not matter where the word Ranger originated from or means, Rangers have the worst ranged in the game now, even Guardians are better then them at range, and all the melee weapons are crap too. In this game everybody is supposed to be able to fight at Ranged and Melee, Ranger can do neither.

Think about this, Engineers can put out more AoE dps at the same range as us then we can on a single target, how does that make sense to any of you? They also have much better cc and support at any range too.

lol that was my concern too, but they kept minding the range thinghy :/

the fact that warriors can outdps most of the other classes melee or ranged while still keeping a good mitigation and a good self healing has really nothing to do …

Warriors?

in Ranger

Posted by: MrNobody.4357

MrNobody.4357

no you see ranger is fine.

Yes they like to avoid melee and have a taste ranged weapons, because they are not fighters, but rather scouts, explorers, survivalist.
Therefore aside bows, to avoid melee they use many other tricks, like traps, deep knowledge of wilderness, and rely on animal companions being on their ranges mostly alone.

Only with all this arsenal he might be unrivalled at range, but not only with a bow like you understand the matter.
That would be a marksman, an archer, a crossbowman….. but none of these would have an animal companion, would use traps or be in touch with wild spirits or have the least insight of the properties of the herbs.

And also a marksman, archer or whatever would be tottaly kittened once he would miss the range between him and his target, but we are lucky and we have Rangers, who can deal with that too.

in Players Helping Players

MrNobody.4357

I think the economy definitely needs to be balanced if adopting a wardrobe/collections feature that allows for one time skin unlocks.

A good way to do it is to have a gem charge for each time you transmute an item or remove a transmutation. This gem cost could be quite high.

This way you are still effectively having to play the game a lot to make use of the cosmetic system (to get money for gems) but you can then play the way you want to, be it getting gold from WvW, DE’s etc.

Another balancing method could be to offer a limited space where to collect looks/styles, and like they are selling bank/inventory space increase services, they could sell a service to increas the looks storage capability.

FOV on 3 monitors Demonstration

google for gw2 camera tool. It doesn’t SEEM to violate the Anet guidelines (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Policy-Third-Party-Programs/first#post354869), but still, use at own risk.

Pay attention, taken in account that even IF it doesn’t actually violate any EULA policy for real, the last version binary of that tool is packed with a code obfuscator (Crypto Obfuscator: http://www.ssware.com/cryptoobfuscator/obfuscator-net.htm), so it is not possible to de-compile it and analyse the code to check that it isn’t actually harmful.

The fact that is obfuscated doesn’t directly implies that it is, but running processes with administrative rights from unknown publishers is always very risky, and the code should preferably be clear and open in that case.

It could be de-obfuscated, with a tool called de4dot (https://github.com/0xd4d/de4dot), but unfortunately the last version isn’t compatible (see issue 69, 79, 80 in the issue list page of the project) with the last version of that obfuscator used by the FoV changer, so at the moment it is not possible, or known to me at least, to get the code analysed by anyone except the author himself.

For such reasons, i pray again the game designers to implement a FoV slider in the game options themselves, because if they don’t someone else will ALWAYS find an hack to do that instead of them, and some customer will use it anyway, whether it will comply to the game policy or not, and i see A.Net decision of overlooking the FoV issue depreciable, as it acknowledges that this is going to leave some of their customers deliberately endangered.

I myself, as many i believe, would prefer to trust the fellow A.Net developers rather than an unknown one.
Not that i believe that for real some people are intrinsically good while others are evil, just in worst case scenario A.Net is accountable for whatever it could harmfully does, while the unknown publisher will not be ever.

In the meanwhile i’d advise anyone who cannot afford a triple monitor set-up to use the custom resolution trick described before in this thread, it is going to sacrifice nearly a half of your display vertical resolution, but it is as healty as mother’s milk at least.
