Hello again DR! Looking forward to Thursday.
Oh and, um, SF you again…
The arrowcart hell DR put together on the third level of SM was rather entertaining earlier today. I just wish my FGS #5 interference had gone a little better when I noticed y’all stacking for a portal bomb(?). Y’all still wiped so its all good i guess.
JQ
Never seen the night crew of GoM so demoralized after [WvW] guild gave all their hard work away for free earlier today. No commanders anymore, no upgrades or siege being bought and no response teams for defense either.
Hard work? Its a faceroll match up.
So you “lost” a couple gold you’d have lost at the end of the week anyways?
Its a kittening game, why take it so serious?
sorry to report but, most of us on GoM disagreed with giving up points to the ET/FC that needed map completion. it’s caused a lot of infighting that will most likely continue.
I doubt that.
I do have one question…
WHY? We have a 50K+ lead and we have almost everything in EB. Whats the point of taking it so serious?
While not let some ET get some map points they might not ever had the chance to get without transferring?

Boo, not a fan of this match up to be honest.
Though, the loot bags from all the Fiery Great Sword zerg diving were overwhelming.
My poor ele hurt her back trying to carry all the loot.
JQ
Baghaven lived up to their name with a failed golem rush on our keep. That was a nice start to the evening.
Also, to those annoying NSP who killed my cata build site while we were attacking DH and Durios, I hope you liked laying dead.
Less spying.
It confirmed my suspicions.
Thanks.
Wat
Just wat.
Please do explain.

Hehe, I love the S/D burst build.
I run a slightly more bunker oriented version of this build. So funny running up to someone and blowing half their health bar off instantly.
This build is hilarious against GC builds if you happen to find one. I -can- go up against balanced leaning bunker builds and put up a good fight, but it takes a lot of skill, luck and relies on using tactics that don’t work more than a couple times on the same person. It basically boils down to surviving and landing your fire burst.
This build won’t win you many duels, but its pretty good when the numbers start increasing a little. Like someone else has said, you’re a opportunistic killer.
Its great at gimping distracted players.
JQ
I’ve had much better luck with the single recipe rather than the 10.
JQ
I’m trying to get an Incinerator.
I’ve got the Gift of Mastery, Spark, and 68 clovers.
So, so far away. ;_;
JQ
The odds really are quite terrible when flushing items down the Mystic Toilet.
Over the last month I’ve flush over 2,000 rares, most of them level 80, down the toilet. I have no idea of the actual number, I bought ~2k, then you have to factor in the rares I got back that got forged. Most exotics were sold to pay for more rares.
The result was one Spark.
Was hoping for two, one to keep, and one to sell to fund the rest of the costs of a Legendary. Now I’m broke and still 600g in materials away from my Incinerator. I also do not have the time to spend hours upon hours farming anymore.
EDIT: Went back through my purchase history 2,050 rares bought.

Here is a summary of my night with my DR captors.
JQ
only race that needs a mount is Asura….
Allow em to piggy back on other racers shoulders
Or allow the other races to punt them a far distance
This, so much this.
…
I don’t see a point in mounts, they just don’t fit in with the game, imo.
JQ
Challenging open world PvE and a large collection of emotes.
JQ
Most of my partying with enemies in WvW has turned out pretty good, maybe I’m just lucky. If I just had a good fight I normally like to talk with the other person.
I think I had one time that started out a little sour with a theif, but it didn’t last long. I think I ended up chatting in that party of four enemies for the next hour or so.
JQ
I really hope Anet is…
Both for the sake of build variety in this class and hopefully returning some confidence that Anet’s balance team isn’t full of blithering idiots and/or trolls. Seriously… “Want to bring down cantrip Ele without affecting lesser used builds”
JQ
1.) The flashy animations.
2.) Ride the lightning
3.) I love being able to fly into the middle of an enemy zerg, wreak havoc, and actually be able to get back to the safety of my comrades/tower… most of the time. Feels great when you’re enough of a distraction to turn the battle in your sides’ favor.
4.) Did I mention the flashy animations?
5.) Say what you might, but I love the t3 human light armor.
JQ
Please don’t let the gloom and doom of this forum get you, people like to kitten a lot and overexaggerate, and one of the side-effects of such exaggeration is thakitten misleads newcomers (or returners) such as yourself.
The D/D Ele is a great class in WvW, though I would ask what server/tier you’re on, and whakitten is you intend to do.
The Thief offers a unique style of gameplay. You have the best escape mechanism in the game yet you’re so squishy once someone manages to get a snare on you. It’s skillful, somehow both forgiving yet unforgiving all at the same time (you can always escape, but linger one second too long and you’re eaten alive).
The D/D Ele too is also quite unique, in many ways standing in stark contrast to the Thief’s tactics. The Ele talks a lot, smashes things around them, blows stuff up, and has flashy effects. They can’t be sneaky at all but instead they embrace getting into the midst of things with a combination of mobility moves, gap closers, perma swiftness, and tons of heals.
I would suggest playing both and trying to see which one you like the most. I will say, however, that both are actually quite different (this is actually something I notice a lot – a lot of players assume that a D/D Ele plays a lot like a Thief because it uses Daggers, when in fact it’s very different).
If we’re talking sPvP, where things are a bit more structured and sane, the Ele is generally considered the better class.
In WvW, it depends on your tier and what you want to do.
But don’t let anyone tell you Ele is not viable in the PvP formats. That is very untrue.
Just, it should be noted that we only have one good spec: 0/10/0/30/30 and the variations of that, and you can’t reliably play a glass cannon one and will need to spec for defense. Then again, don’t let that bother you too much. The people down in the Thief forum are perpetually complaining that they lack reliable sustain outside of stealthing, so every class has its downsides. Which, btw, I think was ANet’s intention.
Thanks for your post!
Can you guys clarify what “kitten”, “thakitten”, and “whakitten” is? I am unfamiliar to the lingo here.
To answer the server/tier question, I play on Maguuma server and I have no idea what “tier” that is. I think we are ranked 7th in WvW, but we definitely lack numbers during the week. I think we tend to capitalize at down times, i.e. late at night/early in the morning. There tends to be a lot of zerging during peak hours which is usual for WvW at these times. When I find myself in a zerg I am not opposed to pulling out a staff and raining some fire/throwing heals on people. My favorite play is in small groups in WvW. I similairly like sPvP in thakitten is smaller group fights.
How is the D/D elementalist in tPvP? I may venture into this if I can find a group that I synergize with and after I learn my class fully.
The forum censors “bad” words and replaces them with the word “kitten”.
Tiers are the WvWvW match ups, there are 8 tiers(NA at least) with, of course, three servers in each.
The theif is going to be a better for solo/small group roaming in WvW, but the ele brings more to large scale fights where the theif is lacking. From what I hear the ele is also going to be better than the theif in sPvP/tPvP.
JQ
With that in mind, have you ever heard of anyone pulling a precursor from the MF in the past 6 months? I sure haven’t. AFAIK people who really want a legendary bite the bullet and buy the precursor from the TP (where THOSE come from I have no idea).
Now you have.
I pulled Spark off the Mystic Toilet a couple days ago.
JQ
I dumped a ranger for an ele. While rangers are in a pretty good spot in sPvP, the same cannot be said about WvW.
This is coming from a WvW perspective,
The pets are kittening stupid and are terribly easy to avoid(the main issue with the class, imo). The pet makes up more than half the ranger’s damage in a BM build too. Feline pets are squishy high damage, kanines have a little more toughness iirc. I would either try to down the ranger as fast as possible or kill both their pets and leave them in a really, really bad spot. Been quite awhile since I played my ranger in PvP.
Open world PvE is laughably easy on a ranger, dungeons not so much.

Well, had fun at the Fight Club even if I was godawful terrible. The whole thing kinda went south eventually. People got bored and flags started going down.
shrugs Gom is becoming DH 2.0 so say good by to solo roamers..
Wow and now NSP is working with GOM or it certainly looks that way… way to ruin whats been a fun fight guys.
I’m still a free loot bag running around alone in various places. ;3
Wasn’t it supposedly DR and GoM double teaming NSP a few days ago? Now its GoM and NSP double teaming DR?
People are bound to choose the easiest target at the time…
Can we get some more spawn camping please… I need more bags.
I dont even care about the score… this is just pathetically funny.
Though I am disappointed in our legendary guards for not killing people running up the stairs.
Yep, all those bags were nice.
I had one stupid moment, I managed to catch the edge of the legendary defender’s range off to the side as I wasn’t familiar with the area.
JQ
This was my attempt at getting the best looking armor for the cheapest possible.
I hate the gloves, but I’m not concerned enough to change it.
Invader’s hood
Arcon mantel
the t3 human top and bottom
Arcon gloves
Armageddon shoes
JQ
I spent a few hours there getting my creepy octo back peice.
I enjoyed it, t6 mats actually dropped, I ended up with 5 or 6 rares, and one exotic. It was also nice having mobs that were not laughable cake walks without being OP.
Only thing that disappointed me was not getting a chest to drop.
JQ
Seems NSP was able to actually field some numbers earlier.
Good to see.
JQ
If the ele is where you say they are there is a pretty good chance they are using some bug/hack or know something I don’t. I remember some people using the Super Adventure Box view glitch to target siege with dragon’s tooth where they should not have been able to normally.
JQ
>WvW at this hour
Chatted with a few NSP and farmed some DR.
Quite boring. I guess that means its time for sleep.
JQ
The build is somewhat entertaining.
Really fun to run into someone with a GC build with it.
Its totally useless against anyone who doesn’t run a GC build and halfway knows what they are doing.
JQ
No offense but since when does your guild destroy anything, let alone a guild?
Genuinely curious here because you often drop very quickly despite your numbers.
We’re largely unorganized and have people who aren’t in the best speced gear, but thats something we are trying to change. With a little luck we may be able to shape into a force to be reckoned with in the near future.
LOL
Just. LOL. You don’t destroy us. You outnumber us. And I kill you lame copycats with extreme prejudice. You have the absolute tastiest loot bags.
“And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee. "
You impostors shall always be my first target.
JQ
I’m relatively new to the elementalist only having 180 or so hours playing one. I started with D/D and hated it, so I moved on to S/D and have been playing that ever since. Solo roaming took a huge hit, at least for my build. Though in a small group I’m still quite deadly. All in all I’m still having lots of fun in WvW.
My ele hasn’t touched PvE since I got it to level 80, I have a ranger for that.
JQ
Well, we managed to cap SM after a rather epic 3 way battle. Well, It would have been epic if Anet could afford some better servers. Anyways, we have it for now, lets see how long we can keep it.
Hello again NSP and nice to meet you DR. >:3
Looking forward to an exciting week.
JQ
Ok, question. Why in the kitten is [WvW] sitting in GoM LA all tagged up and pretty?
Meet your new server mates.
Not sure about the whole thing myself.
(Yes I am a [WvW] member)
JQ
I rolled the ele with the intention of running D/D.
I hated it.
I’m currently running a S/D burst build. Its not quite as effective, but more entertaining to blow someone up before they even know whats going on.
JQ
To the little [NSP] asuran necro who rush me and my mesmer friend from out no where near umber, got rofl stomped(that 5k churning earth you didn’t bother to dodge was funny), then ran back bringing a few of your server mates. After your server mates managed to kill the two of us you had the courtesy to jump on my body.
I think you’ve been around SF a little too much, they’ve rubbed off on you a bit.
I thought I took kitten but looking in the gw2 folder I can’t find it. :<
JQ
Didn’t make it in the last thread, but a NSP ranger running bird pets managed to stomp me twice in a row on opposite sides on the map on two different toons. Granted the first time I wasn’t paying attention while capturing a camp on my ranger and the second I was in the first couple hours ever playing a D/D ele.
After a rather epic fail from me engaging him with my ele rather than stomp me he simply bowed and went along his way.
Just a shout out for trolling me good.
…
Also, is it just me or is it getting popular to run around as animals in WvW?
I keep seeing it more and more.

I got a bit of a laugh from this thread having just dropped a SB/GS ranger for a D/D ele.
@KOK: K, I see now what you were trying to say in your previous post.
One quite funny thing that happened in WvW yesterday.. There was a ranger running around outside our Keep among the ruins.. There were 5 people chasing, all level 80 (except me being level 7 thief so I feel I can be excused xD).. And no one could catch him. I had to laugh at how he successfully trolled us :P I gave up chasing him after about 5 min since the others obviously weren’t able to catch and kill him. :P
I loved doing things like that with my ranger.
Its about the only entertaining thing you can do with a ranger besides blowing up people who are not paying attention.
A little off topic, but just off my first few hours in WvW as a D/D ele. What a mess of skills to manage, its going to take me some time to get use to this.
JQ
(edited by Myst.5783)
Yep, same issue.
Kicked then can’t log back on.
JQ
BM builds would be great if the pet had a little more survivability and could hit moving targets reliably. I ran a BM build for awhile, but too often I could only kill morons or those not paying attention in WvW. Anyone who knew how to move and/or dodge could escape most of my pet’s damage leaving me in a bad position.
I tried a few tank builds that more or less ignored the pet with some success, but I was completely single target and worthless in anything but solo or the smallest groups. Having spent a rather large sum on my current armor I am not willing to reinvest for a condition/trap build.
Long story short since a great deal of my time is spent in WvW I retired my ranger to PvE and rolled an ele. Should be level 80 in around a week.
I hate to abandon my ranger, but what can you do? Anet isn’t capable of fixing the class so they gave up, I guess I have to do the same.
JQ
SF is doing quite well and fielding good numbers.
They’re great in large zergs and I was impressed with the organization they showed. Too bad the same can’t be said about their smaller groups.
Anyways, been having lots of fun in WvW fighting you guys.
JQ

I guess I’ll go make a warrior now or something.
Yeah, because we need more warriors/guardians/mesmers …
Yesterday I was leveling my necro. And I swear various maps were full of warriors or guardians. But can you blame the players? Gw2LFG speaks a very clear language.
Thats pretty blatant evidence the game is broken balance wise and anet should step up to the plate and get it fixed. Of course I don’t want to abandon my ranger, but unless I can find a way to make it viable in game whats the point in keeping with it?
JQ
I jumped into this game around a month ago completely ignorant to the world of Guild Wars. I grabbed a ranger because hey, I like bows. Eighty levels later, many dungeons, and many hours in WvW I noticed something.
That something was the fact I was rather useless compared to other classes. Thinking I must be doing something wrong with my character build I find myself here, browsing the ranger forum.
The ranger seems to be rotten all the way to the core. Most of this rot being the fact its based around a gimmick known as pets. Spiting half your damage to a bugged, dumb as dirt AI was never going to work out well. While I enjoy the idea of pets, they are really a joke.
The devs find themselves staring at a decaying, lifeless tree. My guess is they look at the large amount of work required to make this tree blossom into its true glory, turn away, and work on something easier. They may go pick a branch or two, but they never deal with the real problems.
The easiest solution I see , which was mention here, is to ditch the pets all together(make them an option rather than requirement) and give the rangers a damage boost. That or fix the pet mechanics and turn them into something more useful.
I guess I’ll go make a warrior now or something.
JQ
