I’ve never seen adds spawn around turrets during his stun phase and there’s usually been plenty of time to run back before they start spawning.

Adds don’t spawn during his vulnerable time, they spawn soon into it and depending how quickly you can get to Teq and back – whether you’re hit by the wave or not, bad timing, etc – you will end up with a bit of a situation. So rather safe than sorry.

Another point, be sure to kill or interrupt the Krait Hypnoss that spawns in the adds, he likes to summon extra help.

can you tell us how to do it with less than 30 people? because not everybody guests to blackgate.

Well now that I can’t tell you, unless you want to be a dev with magic power. If you’ve got less than 30 pps, may be start trying to find more guilds to organise with. On FA we’re a number of guilds doing it and we’re not guesting to BG to do it, in fact we’d rather not do it with them, the driving force was to succeed as a server first.

The recommendation to have a Finger killing squad or two is new, and I think it’s actually a good idea. It’s something that Zerker characters can do easily (since their mobile nature means they’ll usually be out of range of the shockwaves), and culling the Fingers should help a lot in alleviating pressure on the turrets to constantly spam #3 to remove poison fields on the main zerg.

The idea is that if there is nothing to cleanse, then the turrets can do more direct damage to Teq throughout the entire fight, it all adds up in the end.

The trouble is kyrmana, as simple as it sounds, some turret defense people get carried away at Teq or forget how to jump or can’t manage the jumps or they simply cannot count to 60 and suddenly there’s more pressure on defense that was not necessary.

Can suggest that it can be a fine tuning exercise as well, but this is a simple Teq-downing instruction.

Teq down 5 times using this methodology but getting bored of it now, so I think I will just help guildies or server guilds if they need now

Yeah, I assume that when people who know what they are doing on the turrets are put there, that they will do what they know they need to do.

Also, completed Teq again doing this same strategy with some fine tuning at the battery stage with mesmers peeling off 10 seconds sooner than the rest of the players there and laying down portals to get the main zerg back on Teq a lot faster and in place for the dps race.

Myth Shaia.4856

So, having spent many hours and many failures learning how things work in this fantastic new event – which has created a great amount of publicity and outrage and appreciation – and finally downing Teq twice, here is the simple truth:

1) organization and coordination are your most important tools in this fight – get onto the community TS or one that you can all use
2) get a good main zerg leader that everyone is happy to follow and ‘obey’
3) get ppl on turrets that know what to do
4) get ppl on turret defense that know what to do
5) make two 5-10 man finger killing teams that will roam the area around Teq
6) if you die, WP back alrdy and don’t pull any adds into the north turrets on your way back!!

In our attempts on FA, we found that one main zerg group was the best way to go and kept it within range of all 6 turrets for cleansing. The main zerg organized it’s warrior banners/ranger spirits/elemental heals and guardian cleansing and elemental conjured weapons according to the zerg leaders instructions. Wave dodges were called out.

Turret defense was organized into 2x 5 man parties for each north and south turret grouping. There is no reason to have fewer than 10 players there to defend and 2 of those repairing the turrets back up. Adds that spawned were engaged as close to their spawn point as possible and if champs were spawned, they were simply kited away by whoever had aggro on them whilst the rest of the group killed off the other adds and handled the finger spawns and then came back to the champ. Sylvari at turret defense are very useful for Take Root which allows them to place their own little turrets which are great to take focus of the enemy spawns, any skill which will distract the enemies attention away from the important turrets is very important.

The battery defense part is pretty straight forward enough, however if you’re at the northern battery, don’t forget to stomp the grub holes! Very important and makes a big difference. At the start of this phase, the Finger-hunting groups need to first clear all those fingers they can from the area near Teq and then respond to any batteries or the laser bleeding hp too fast.

The mega-laser location, destroy the BIG UPRIGHT STANDING KRAIT HYPNOSS as a priority and then be about the other adds. Bear in mind, the big krait dude can respawn during one battery/laser defense phase.

Very important – when you are all ready to fire the mega-laser, don’t leave your battery or the laser if it’s already low on health and there are still a decent amount of adds up….be aware of what is going on and protect until you know it is safe to leave! This has happened in enough groups where players lose focus and then BAM! battery dead and fail.

Now the very important part – and probably why/where many attempts fail – the turret defense groups should not go down to dps Teq once that cannon is fired. They have one priority and that’s the defense of turrets – the caveat here being if you’re a mesmer, rush down there, pop all your phantasms on Teq and a Timewarp on the zerg if one isn’t up yet and return immediately to turret defense because those turrets do a serious amount of damage on Teq when he is vulnerable and 6 turrets up and shooting is going to be a lot more dps than 10 players on him – not to mention that enemy adds will spawn soon enough and if there is no defense, there is no cleansing, there is no wall-stack removals, and then there are no turrets!! And then you fail! This also applies to the last phase depending on how the enemies are spawning, if it is safe send half the turret defenders into Teq as well.

Very important observation here, the north & south turrets can come under a lot of pressure depending on timers so the finger hunters need to be aware of this should go and help if required but always fall back to their main role once control has been reestablished.

If you can follow this approach, you should taste success – not referring to loot of course because well RNG and all that nonsense

- bear in mind, this is not the only way to go about things, however it is a sure fire way to succeed -

Fractals ignored again?

Myth Shaia.4856

Fractals wasn’t ignored again. It is still being ignored.

There are probably 100 (may be more) topic posts on this forum about how FotM’s loot and dungeon design can be improved. Perhaps ANet is embarrassed that they haven’t thought of them first and don’t want to implement them and then have some snotty-faced gamer geek come claim compensation from them!

But seriously, rings dropping at FotMs 30+? Headed to 20 stacks of fractal relics and nothing to buy with them except for Obsidian Shards (if I ever want to make a Legendary, unlikely!). Pristine relics that you can use to buy….oh a ring which will prolly drop for you the following night!

FotMs = distinct lack of motivation to bother doing. Done over 500 fractals and have got 4 skins…2 of which I cannot use, the other 2 being water skins, yay…

Time to give us some fractal armor that we can farm for ANet, make it harder to farm for than the dungeon token armors and you will prolly see a lot more players having fun doing FotMs again.

Poor rangers. So funny. I regularly run FotMs 28-30 with 2 rangers in my grp. Indeed we do have a guardian and a warrior and we always have to pug a 5th as we can’t seem to find a regular to fill that last spot. We don’t really mind what class the pug is because in our minds we’d prefer the player to be comfortable and knowledgeable of the class he is playing.

And we don’t really have a problem with any fractals. Having 2x entangle rangers is very useful, allows us to leisurely kill the ele adds on grawl shaman, allows us to recover from a silly pull on dredge too. Pet revive allows us to …. w8 a minute we seem to do a lot of silly things!

But seriously, what ppl seem to be missing here is that they will get to improve their overall playing style by playing and surviving with all the classes, especially the ‘unwanted’ ones. Of course this is irrelevant if all you want is to speed through.

But yeah, personally I don’t care what the class is that comes as long as the person pushing the buttons is able to play properly Also, getting the Longbow Fractal skin when you’re a guardian seems to really irritate the rangers and warriors more, lmao!!

My opinion of Dredge Fractal

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Myth Shaia.4856

Let me point out that your Guardian(s) should never be the ones on the buckets if you can avoid it; you want their reflects and support in the fray (particularly the aoe Aegis).

Weeeeelll, this can be true to a point, although a guardian’s dps on this boss is pretty sad with a scepter compared to the ranger. Besides, Guardian has 3 speed boosts to play with – Retreat, Save Yourself, Staff 3.

I always do the bucket on my Guardian when I go up, true we don’t have a neccie in the party which is odd, think we would have picked one up by now since we usually PuG the 5th. Have stopped bothering with Wall of Reflection on the boss since his own bombs barely do any dmg anymore (considering his HP pool) – and ppl have learnt to dodge properly by now – and also have found on more than one occasion the Wall being ineffective at doing what it should do, reflect.

To the OP, just need to do the fractal a number of times until everyone is on the same skill-level page. Not everyone figures things out at the same time.

I don’t have any issues with the boss. Actually both bosses (Mining Suit and Elemental) are pretty decent. What kills me is the seemingly endless stream of trash mobs that spam protection, regen, CC and AoE, and are immune to blind.
Dredge is an incredibly tedious fractal. Everyone I do 48s with hates it.

Yeah, this ^. Irritating and tedious, the amount of time you have to spend in there….who cares about the 75 million Heavy Mining Bags – where’s my precursor, lol!!

What makes me laugh the most is when we get Dredge as first fractal and the PuG wants to skip it….and then we get it as 2nd or 3rd Fractal with the Grawl Shaman between

it’s acceptable if you are a skilled player.

For my ranger in dungeons I run full glass cannon with Longbow/shortbow, quickness on pet swap. I also take muddy terrain and Entangle for some excellent CC in places like fractals shaman boss and charr fractals charging warriors.

This is true and holds true for every other profession out there. I run FoTMs 26/28 with 2 rangers in my party. Haven’t had a problem really. We do have a PPT Warrior and PPT Guardian and usually the 5th is a PUG and we don’t particularly care what class it is, we work around it and get the job done. Simple enough.

It’s just a shame that rangers & engineers seem to carry this terrible stigma, neccies and eles to a lesser extent (I think…)

Fractal Skins

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Myth Shaia.4856

Myth Shaia.4856

Yeah, ANet really needs to do something about this…a fractal skin is a gorgeous reward. I don’t even think it should be RNG based (don’t you just hate the player who has only done 70 fractals total who gets a GS fractal skin when you’ve done a few hundred!) , but rather based on a number of criteria, two of which should be fractal level and fractal frequenter (number of which can be debated upon).

Otherwise, yes, that idea about the pristine relics and shards is a valid one as well. May be throw in 150 fractal relics as well, nothing else to do with – as of right now – them anyway!

Do Fractals change at higher levels?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Myth Shaia.4856

Myth Shaia.4856

We do the above – I’m just trying to illustrate a point – the fact that if you aren’t speced and geared to tank you can’t take more than 1 hit, even if speced if you don’t mitigate damage from vet or normals you can still get 2 hit. Tactics I understand is very important in fractals, and 1 slip can still wipe a team of veteran players. This is what f30+ is. f26 is more forgiving, but not much more.

I’m also trying to assert f26 isn’t a cake walk like Rising Dusk claims, and that unless you are a pro with an entire special team build and only run with that team, you SHOULDN’T take magic find armor. In f26 I wouldn’t be caught dead without my soldiers / knights / cavaliers / cleric armor on. The only part i would go MF would be maw level.

But I suppose Rising Dusk is being passively elitist :P

And this is the problem with the current system of FoTMs. Realistically at FoTMs26 you should have run over 200 fractals – if you have bothered to do them as a learning experience (not being carried, not using exploits, etc). As such I expect players to know their profession, the tactics, how/when to dodge, and to have some AR.

I have been lucky recently to have found another couple to run FoTMs with and hopefully we have found our regular 5th now as well, and we did 26 last night, got the Shaman as the second fractal and one-shotted him and completed the whole run in an hour and a bit. We don’t have the optimal party either – 2 Rangers in the mix and we don’t see that profession as a problem, we use its abilities to our advantage. Yes, we do have a guardian but it isn’t a tank-or-healer-wannabee, I run PPT with Soldier Runes. We have a warrior that runs PPT as well, and so far even with a 5th PUG of any profession we have managed through the higher 20s just fine.

TBH, running a ‘tank’ build is limiting your experience imo, you shouldn’t be minimizing the dmg you take from a hit first, you should be minimizing being hit in the first place and then understand how to adjust for a situation where you will get hit. Yes those whirling charge warriors in Charr fractal are a pain but using the NPCs to deal with them is more fun, personally I find the ‘invisible’ mage bolt more frustrating.

Fractal Chest Loot vs. World Boss Chest Loot

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

All they have to do is make it so that you have to kill all the World bosses in the same daily window to qualify for a World Boss daily chest. That would make it better I think and make world bosses more relevant instead of just being loot pinatas. Or they could make a World boss daily chest for each region of the world, chest being lootable once daily per account…or something similar. Right now it’s way too easy to kill these World bosses, time and effort should = loot table, not the way it is now.

2 Mesmers? Can at least use GS skill 5 to push back/cc the mobs. Put in their utility entangle as well. Can drop their Feedback on the ranged groups as well while kiting
Thieves can kill things so quickly too and use blind on the mobs.

But pretty much all you have to worry on Magg is to nuke the assassins and kite/cc then kill the rest of the mobs.

Why not rather post your party make-up here and ask advice on how to maximize dungeon success using these particular professions. I think you may get a lot of tips. Mind you, if your group looks on the forums in their relevant profession sub-forum they will find plenty of information as well.

As a sidenote, bear in mind that ppl who say that CoF is the easiest dungeon are the ones that are farming P1 in 6-7mins. The ppl that actually run all 3 paths find that it is more or less as challenging as the other dungeons.

Fire Shaman Fractal Too Hard at 11+

The other thing that ppl fail to realise or consider is that really you should try and complete every fractal instance before you get to lvl 10 and probably multiple times so that you are more aware of what goes on and is required. It isn’t just about stringing a whole bunch of fractal instances together and suddenly you’re at lvl 15 having done less than 50 fractal instances and possibly not having seen all 9 of the variations. Suddenly you come up against Shaman at lvl 20, you’ve only done him 3 times at lower lvls and struggled and now he’s impossible and needs a nerf.

As others have said, FoTMs is the more difficult dungeoning experience. Accept that it is so and prepare and improve your gameplay accordingly.

Myth Shaia.4856

Tsk. What high-level/dungeon monster is not going to 1-2 shot kill you? Some people may find it fun to just stand there and be able to get monster-slapped all day long because of their tanky spec but seriously, how you don’t find that boring is mind-boggling….as boring as farming…oh wait wait, there’s the issue really at the base of it all isn’t it…that kind of game play would certainly simplify farming…where you only get excited when you see a gold item drop.

I think though that ANet had in mind for players to feel rewarded by defeating monsters/bosses in a challenging encounter. The chest at the end is just a thank-you for participating really, because how often do you get fantastic loot from it anyway!

To those crying about soloing content (read dungeons) …M-M-O… – the middle M means m-u-l-t-i-p-l-a-y-e-r (does not mean having many alts!) – it is obvious that ANet has developed the game more along the lines of players interacting with other players to accomplish things. There being no trinity has proved successful for the players willing to adapt and think over their strategies and prepare for an encounter. Every player has to bring skills that benefit the party, both support and dps because everyone is going to be in the kitten more often than not!

Not one of the boss encounters is terribly difficult in this game, perhaps the learning curve is too steep for players of traditional stand-around-and-do-the afk-dance while you get monster slapped or it could also simply be that some players have a more difficult time learning their profession, it certainly is different from other MMOs out there, but seriously; adapt and dodge or die. It really is that simple.

ANet developed this game with a certain player-style and player-base in mind. In my opinion and no doubt countless others’ they have succeeded. It is not their job to conform their game vision to yours simply because you cannot adapt to theirs (which you have to do if you want to play their game). It is not their job to nerf encounters over and over because it is too difficult for you when others are completing these encounters successfully and are even calling for more difficulty!!

ANet, where’s my Hard Mode!? The message here is, learn to play the game that has been developed, don’t try to make the game the way you want it to be – that is not your job, it is not your game.

The OP may not realise this, but since dodging – learning how & when – is such a prevalent part of the GW2 method of playing, he is basically talking about other players needing to L2P then.

Further, the AI everywhere in GW2 seems to target those being revived unless it finds a bigger threat elsewhere. If other players in his group are having to be revived often, they do simply need to L2P better.

At one time or another we are all inspecting the dirt at Subject Alpha’s feet until we learned to dodge

This also isn’t just a L2P the encounter properly, but also L2P your character properly. There are enough traits out there that stimulate endurance regeneration – it’s called Vigor and if you know there’s going to be a lot of dodging involved, then trait appropriately. Heck there’s even food I think.

Also, unless you’re a fast and good learner and understand what is going on in a dungeon, I don’t think ANet designed these dungeons to be conquered with only one visit – not that it isn’t possible if you add preparing for the dungeon properly.

So take your time, prepare accordingly, improve your play-style and get ready to battle

I would like to try playing my mediums/light armors in CoE but have no idea where to start, all I have is zerker gear atm and dont wanna buy bad armor or armor just for CoE. Also want to be able to do some damage so if anyone has a guide for that, it would be appreciated. Not so much specific classes, just in general for non-heavy.

As Lightrayne pointed out above it really is about knowing the instance and that applies to every dungeon in the game.

Aside from that, I changed my armor for better non-zerker team viability to Power/Precision/Toughness with Soldier runes on my guardian, and on my mesmer also Power/Precision/Toughness (not the best I admit but successfully completing a bosskill with minimum party wipes is more important to me) with Superior rune of the Pack, since I like to go into melee range with my sword and the party can get nice buffs when I get hit.

Be aware tho, apparently Toughness does have some affect on the aggro tables in the game and you may find yourself a target more so than the rest of your party, so finding a good balance there is also key Found this out the funny way when I was Lupicus’ kitten doll for the night, or rather his rabbit.

Alpha doesnt require toughness. Fastest groups are zerker, if your stacked, even if one gets downed from Alpha’s melee, you have 4 people ressing instantly as your on top of them. Also, I have tried to fight him in path1 on a guardian with over 2,310+ toughness and Alpha can still do enough melee damage to me to kill me if he focus’es solely on me. So your gonna die if he wants you too, its just how fast can you burst him down before he can do this enough to where it overcomes the team.

Yeah, in my instance I mean toughness to a point where you aren’t being one-shotted constantly becoming a liability to your party. I don’t really have much to say about zerker groups, I don’t run them or have a build for it.

Mostly the advice in this post is for the players that are getting to Alpha for the first time or having trouble surviving him in a PuG or noob-to-the-dungeon friends group.

Right, since I just recently – yesterday – finished up my COE P3 finally since ppl are so scared to go there for some reason, I thought I would add my own 2 pieces of copper to the forums about it.

The stacking methodology for Subject Alpha works…albeit requiring a decent amount of Toughness. So that addresses a few encounters with Subject Alpha.

The other mechanic, millions of red circles: It is so easy to handle these. Once the red circles spawn, count to 2 (as in 1, 2) and then dodge. A little bit of timing practice has you evading successfully.

I play hammer guardian in there and melee Subject Alpha with little trouble doing this, in fact it’s great fun. I dodge then hit my hammer attack #2 and jump back on him. Repeat as you need.

The good thing about this 1,2 count is that everyone can then stack (melee & ranged), which minimises the chance of dodging into another million red circles and also allows the crystal entombed player to be released in 1 or 2 seconds from the aoe in one place.

Try it, it works, however, once you’ve got this down it may highlight some other more irritating places in COE than Subject Alpha

Poor dungeon design is hurting GW2 in my view

According to the title of the post, this is your humble opinion of course.

As others have said, L2P. Use your brain more and your white flag of surrender less. Dungeons are created in GW2 to be areas to problem solve with the tools that your character has. Rise to the challenge. Research and prepare accordingly.

Yes, pugs can be a pain the royal **** when they won’t use their brains either, but that’s how it is with MMOs – there is a big bucket of players, some being worse than others (you may feel there are a lot more bad players) but at some point you will make friends and create your own regular group of players, or join a guild that works for you.

I personally love tough dungeons, the challenge to get past them successfully without using exploits along the way is a finger in the face of those that can only do them with exploits. Love patch days when exploits are fixed.

Dungeons are dungeons. Places to explore and make riches in. Riches that need to be earned, not handed to you on a silver platter

Help in AC Exp

P1 burrows: You shouldn’t stand and tank the adds, run around the table and kite them, use speed boosts and stability when required. Also hit/shoot/aoe/ take aggro on any little adds that target Hodgins. Use blinds/cripple on them too. I can do this with my mesmer and my guardian.

P2 ghosts: yeah a bit tougher than before, purely because they had their AI tweaked. You need the right traits and abilities. Blinds, stability, condition removals, reflection of some sort, ressing ppl quickly.

Also don’t forget to take out the mesmer, he shuts one party member down for the fight.

Further this tanking business in this game: it really does cripple a party down if someone tries to be a pure tank in this game, all the dps and movement kiting lost to the party. Parties need to synergise their builds to the situation.

Really? I mean really? Another post like this, tsk.

At the top of this page is a sticky with video walkthroughs to the dungeon…may be, just may be you should prepare a little bit better.

None of these dungeons are difficult to understand and get to grips with. If you cannot improve how you play, the game and its dungeons may well be too difficult for you.

There are plenty of tools/tips/walkthroughs and more to help you out. If you can only complain before trying to improve your play level, well the issue is not the game.

Myth Shaia.4856

So, did an AC Exp full run yesterday. Group was guardian, ranger x3, warrior. Had a lvl 40 and a lvl 78, one had just dinged 80 and other two were 80 for a while. We all knew how to do AC pre-patch. properly. And you know what, aside from a few issues mentioned below, nothing was difficult. There was no exploiting or bugging, just a run the way it was meant to be done. Didn’t wipe once, had a few downed along the way but nothing unmanageable.

P3 was the quickest. Seems that burrows spawn adds a little bit slower than before. May be the new farming point. Did skip the mobs in the tunnel to the collection of essence burrows – the Lover’s area. A mesmer with party invisibility will surely make it even quicker.

P2 chains was easier than before, over before I realised.

P1 burrows are still a weird problem – using my GS I missed even when standing on top of them, using scepter I hit. Using hammer on an add next to the burrow helped.

Spider boss aoe doesn’t last as long. You can’t stand on the pillar and kill spiders safely anymore, you have to get down there.

The knockdown is still an issue though, I think it’s just 1 sec too long. There are enough tools to compensate but when the Scavengers can KD you often as their cooldown is superior to your stability cooldown and their are too many adds on your screen to see them clearly (happens with the lower lvl’d folks cos they can’t kill things as quickly), it can be an issue.

The end-boss KD on P3 is a bit long too. 1 sec less please, it’s not the straw to break a camel’s back, but again for lower lvl’d folks and even higher lvl’d with less experience, it can lead to unfinished runs.

The “1 sec less please on KD” also takes into consideration the boss hp which is still high. Should it seriously take almost 10 mins of the same mechanic to kill a boss? Yes, it will take that long now since you try to stay alive and res others up because of no WP usage while the party is in combat, and you don’t want the boss to reset.

Perhaps to also make things more interesting, the boss should be able to call out to his minions that haven’t been killed yet…that’s what a boss would do surely, call out for help…? May be on a timer or an HP %…oh wait no, that will make things take longer although then the boss’s hp could be lowered a bit…?

But aside from the above, no rant about how hard it is now, no rant about how stupid the WP system is now. I think it’s brilliant and really makes ppl pay attention to the rest of their party if they need to res, and makes ppl play more responsibly and stay alive. If you’re not going to pay attention and die often and cause your party grief that way, then you will more than likely be kicked. It’s not their fault but yours.

Now Anet, now bring us HARDMODE!!

oh dear I wrote a book

Seriously ppl.

If you are going into Fractals/any dungeon for the first time and don’t want to spend 3 hours wiping and getting angry and yelling about how hard and unfair and impossible it is…

…and you haven’t bothered researching the place first, even a little bitty-bit, this is not the LFR-feature of the other game where you can just close your eyes and sleep through even the boss fights. Once you know a boss fight well enough, then you can almost sleep through it, but that implies having prepared enough for it.

If you don’t put in the effort to bring the right foods, bring the right traits/armor/skill set and don’t bother researching a bit, then you deserve the 3-4 hours of wipe fest and accompanying repair bill. If you cannot step up to the challenge and raise your ‘game’, well that’s another issue entirely but making things easier is not the solution.

Don’t blame your inadequacies and unpreparedness on a company like ANet because they can’t create a game that reflects your (in)ability(s) when they in fact want to create a challenge for the players that prepare themselves for it.

Seriously, why must everything be made easier in this day and age. Step up ppl!! Want the challenge…and as Major Payne asked, “Do you want to earn it?” (wish I could put in the sound bite, lol)

If I take Wall of Reflection off my bar, it has to be for a darn good reason.

This ^

What a lot of people don’t realize is that the wall is not really the white translucent force field we do. The wall is actually a Rectangle area that you can step in and reflect anything no matter which side you get ranged attacked from.

Indeed, this ^

Recently discovered and have to remember to do it more often, but yh, you just stand in your wall and everything (that can) bounces back from where it came. Hopefully this is not a bug, heh

So lets put up a list of brilliant instances of using WoR, whether it’s WvWvW or Dungeons. Not sure about sPVP though. Will start with a few I have had great fun with:

1) AC exp – Kohler’s attack nullified – or used to
2) AC exp P2 – reflect ranger/ele mob attacks at mortar repair phase

3) FOTM 10 onwards – Asuran cliff – Stupid harpies, eat your own knockback attack
4) FOTM any – Hello Mr Dredge-boss, return-to-sender bombs (altho I believe the dmg has been reduced now)

5) WvWvW – tower gate defense, drop a WoR in front of the gate, really irritates the enemies firing at the gate.
6) WvWvW – great retreat from zerg ability to buy you some time from ranged attacks

7) CM exp – riflemen, rangers, narrow passages
8) CM exp or anywhere really that you have to res a downed player, drop a WoR just in front and res the player up

Elsewhere in the dungeon info on the wiki it states the Kohler’s initial attack is projectile based. Wall of Reflection states that it reflects projectiles. If Feedback on my mesmer works, then how does Wall of Reflection suddenly not?

Besides, have used Wall of Reflection on Kohler for months now and it has always worked for me up till today.

Oh and since when does using a Staff auto attack 10-12 times in a row manage to miss a volatile blossom that is right in front of my guardian, in TA?

It seems as if the Staff auto attack is either passing into the ground or way above its intended target.

I don’t think it’s a heckuva lot lower damage but not having all traits and skills available does make a difference.

However, if you know how to play the dungeon, lvl30 or lvl80, you’re going to get through it.

I think the underlying perception is that lvl30s are dungeon noobs who will cause a lot of wipes. Have seen this from lvl80s enough times to debunk that perception, but there it is.

Edit : after another try, that safe spot is still there yeah. Still, you should take it out as it will be fixed, probably with January update.

There is another ‘safe’ method of avoiding these things, and really easy if they are ‘following’ you. Just stop, let the ones land behind you and then dodge into that area. In other words, dodge in the direction your were running/coming from. Even if there is an overlap, your dodge if timed correctly gets you out of it completely or gives you an evade if mistimed.

Anyone wary of the FOTM difficulty change?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Myth Shaia.4856

There is a simple enough solution to this problem.

Only allow ppl who are between FOTM lvl1-10 to be able to join up.
Only allow ppl who are between FOTM lvl10-20 to be able to join up…

and so on.

This way whole groups of players will eventually lvl up continuously instead of this sporadic system which is in place now.

There is of course a further simple solution:

Join a guild that has enough ppl to form a number of guild teams, this is an MMO after all where group play is supposed to be encouraged – pugging issues should not be a driving factor to bring serious change to how an MMO works. Instead, ANet should probably be encouraging individuals to join/create guilds that will help these players to come together to be able to progress.

I suppose in a manner, FOTM’s is that encouragement…?

Aside from that, you should not be having those issues, it just sounds like your GW2 is using the onboard vga, something like HD3000/4000 may be instead of the actual AMD GPU.

Swamp is the best fractal

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Myth Shaia.4856

Myth Shaia.4856

There is probably only one time that Swamp will be impossible: when you’re in a group where no-one has ever done it at all or only done it with a mesmer/thief – when this happens you don’t figure out how to do it successfully.

Did a pug last night lvl3 and was praying not to get Swamp and wouldn’t you know it, comes up as second fractal. Thought the night was over then. No mesmer, no thief. Warrior, 2 Guardians, 2 Rangers. 3 of us haven’t succeeded here before and 1 hasn’t seen this place before. And I was not having a good night, I was the kitten doll of boss attraction last night, have never run out of dodge energy that many times last night, was funny died to the blizzard after an amazing amount of knockbacks that kept coming my way, and then watched the group get may be another total of 3 knockbacks while they killed the boss. Anyway, back to topic on hand, the Swamp.

But, having read on this forum about using 2 players at the far off shrines – 1 to run ahead and disable traps for the one running the wisps – and being able to climb/jump over the tree wall, we had the Swamp sorted after 1 fail from a Mossman pop up on the countdown – lol that was funny – to killing the Bloomhugger – not a tree hugger then? – in about 10 minutes or so.

So yeah, hate it to start off with, but from having read about the knockback on the Asuran harpies section, gimme Swamp anyday!

But so far, loving all the fractals, a real breath of fresh air still…how long that will last, hehe, we’ll see

Kicked for the lack of a ranged weapon.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Myth Shaia.4856

Myth Shaia.4856

Scepter/focus and Staff guardians married to high crit/precision builds is more than effective as an alternative to melee weapons. That is what I run. Single target with the Scepter/focus and aoe with Staff and party boon buff on crits. However, I am more than happy to change to my GS when the situation arises.

Guardians are more about flexibility than the other classes anyway. So if you won’t play a ranged weapon, well that’s really only your issue tbh.

Also, as others have pointed out, dungeons are about a team effort.

However, since Anet made it that all classes can melee/ranged, many players – I feel – have got lazy and expect everything to be done from range because they think it is safer but don’t realise that they are minimizing their own group combat options by just playing ranged – the bosses/enemies are not simply going to stay at your ranged output, so many times players are getting themselves boxed up unnecessarily making it harder for the group. GW2 combat is guerrilla warfare and more dynamic than the MMOs other people have got used to.

There is a time and place for melee and ranged depending on the situation.

Hi Lalangamena.

A further thing to check, please make certain your ram is running at the speed it should be. I had countless problems with ram running at 1333mhz instead of 1600mhz.

Also, make sure you have the latest firmware for your SSD. My Crucial M4 256gb was also giving me tons of issues until I updated the firmware.

Another thing to try is to change your sound setting in GW2 to lower settings.

Hopefully one of these things will help.

No you won’t have to reinstall/redownload GW2. Just make a shortcut on the desktop again once you have reinstalled.

From your crash report though, it looks like a DirectX rendering issue. You can first try to go to Microsoft’s website and download the latest DirectX installer. It will check your version and update the files that are missing or corrupt.

Also, set your Textures to Medium in game. This may stabilise your GW2 for you.

Got a new wireless N Netgear, moved it onto the shelf away from the computer and not a days trouble with connections on the wifi since then.

So quite possibly, there are a number of factors you need to consider if you’re having wifi problems.
