if you want help, negative comments don’t work well.
like sobe said post your specs and os, and we will help you.
posting your dxdiag.txt would help too.
hundreds of thousands of people are playing without problems.
wow, good to know. I’ve always heard good things about asus customer service, but maybe not. luckily Newegg has a infamously good rma department.
on a different note on I’ve been reading allot about socket 2011. the crazy pci-e bandwidth might be too awesome to pass up. every 2011 mobo has at least 2 x16 pci-e …
can you give us a dxdiag.txt?
you said you installed beta drivers? maybe try different drivers? either something non-beta, or some custom drivers from omegadrivers.net.
great info guys, than you.
the Asus hero has everything the extreme has minus a few things I dont care about.
it’s only around 200 bucks. Asus makes good products and I love that they understand what their customers want and try to offer it at a good price. The asus 24 inch, 144mhz, 1ms response time monitor for under 300 is another good example of this.
I dint care to much about bragging rights, but a few years down the road the Asus hero will have a better resale value than some generic x87 motherboard.
another reason the hero is a good choice is because it supports insainly fast ram. where those others don’t.
What exactly do you want to know about it? The order of succession from the 2600k has kept the i7 mainstream series as a definite sought after proc. Is there anything in particular you want info on?
well, there is a lot of bad blood floating around the net about haswell. From all I read its mostly lies from 2nd and 3rd gen owners. haswell has the same junk solder between the cpu and heat spreader ivy bridge has. the only difference is the lithography is smaller on haswell to make room for the graphics controller and some power controller I don’t fully understand yet….anyway that causes slightly more heat than ivy did. so overclock wise most are only getting to 4.2 -4.5 on air, which is acceptable I think. I was just looking for someonw with real life experience using the chip.
I own a Sandy – E and have a 4770k computer i built downstair for a family member.
Both CPU’s run GW2 as good as u can expect. The 4770k isnt OC’d but handle GW2 as good as can be expected, and my 3930k is OC’d to 4.6ghz and also handle GW2 as good as can be expected.
bassicaly u cant get better than a 2nd/3rd/4th gen i7 k verison CPU atm.
FYI. Unless u specificaly need somthing from the Asus hero board, if ur just looking to get it for its visual red/black style, then a MSI GD65 or GD45 gaming is cheaper and looks just as good.
The Hero is still a brilliant board, just thought i would throw out another option Most of Asus’s cheaper boards are that horrid fake gold color, thought maybe u were just getitng the hero for its visuals :P
thanks for the input. I want the hero board for its overclocking capabilities, and crazy fun built in features like secure erase, and ram disk.
what kind of FPS are you seeing in gw2 with that haswell?
(edited by NeedCoffee.1402)
I’m considering purchasing a 4770k and just want to hear about others experiences.
I’ll probably get the z87 asus hero mother board.
look at both dxdiag. specifically at d3d9 (direct x 9) the op’s isn’t supported.
op, you said you did a upgrade install? you may need to do a clean install.
looks like a direct x 9 comparability issue.
it’s always fun to upgrade to the latest and greatest but typically the latest and greatest is too far ahead of current drivers and software.
I’ll wait on Windows 8 until I know everything is comparable.
3770k is Ivy not Sandy, and if you see my sig I run an XSPC Raystorm waterblock, XSPC RX360 rad, and Boxgodz Monsoon Series 2 reservior. I did not delid, was tempted but after binning 5 3770ks I found one I liked as far as voltage @ 4.5 and 5GHz., majority of 3770k should hit 4.5 though regardless.
Sadly sig limits limited my ability for more details on my cooling
XSPC is a watercooling company though
lol, I knew the 3770k was 3rd gen but I always get the codenames mixed up.
and I know nothing about water cooling, I just thought monsoon.sounded like a big air cooler.
what fps are you seeing in a zerg vs zerg situation in wvw?
looks like we have the same asus monitor. do you light boost with it?

have you tried any core unparking?
I don’t recommend the regedit tweak.
core parking is useful, just not while you’re gaming.
this program: http://bitsum.com/about_cpu_core_parking.php
it’s free and allows you to set core parking how you want without a reset.
I have it set to unpark all cores only during “high” power scheme is used.to the amd vs Intel argument.
there is a post floating around here with a guy that has a six core Intel processor and is getting insane fps.The FPS he gets should be about the norm assuming you are running modern hardware….. Especially his PvE area fps, if you don’t get 100+ at the least with noone around as he mentioned where he got his numbers from, something is wrong with your setup imo…
Example: Alone with a single GTX 680 + 3770k,
http://www.simplifiedstyle.com/Gw2_2013_10_30_11_17_52_499.jpgFor settings,
http://www.simplifiedstyle.com/gw023.jpgI know my sig says 780, but I’m testing clocks for another rig I need this card running CUDA computations on.
those are some pretty amazing fps. you oc your Sandy to 5? that too is impressive.
and on air non the less. did you delid? or did you get a gem of a cpu?

I love wvw and wouldn’t want a fellow raller to be denied his wvw fix.
please try my suggestions.
you said Windows 7 is in a separate ssd by itself. is it a clean install when you put the system togther? or was it leftover from another system/processor?
download/install process lasso and have it automatically force gw2 into high/realtime priority whenever it loads.
primo cache can improve your ssd performance but you should use crystal disk to find out how your ssd is performing. sometimes ssd can lose performance from to many formats. you may want to look into a.secure erase program for your ssd.
(edited by NeedCoffee.1402)
just fine.
I haven’t tried everything he recommends, you would have to be a little crazy to use it all. but I’ve used/ tried most of it. some of it can be ignored like the punk buster stuff.
my favorites are tcpoptimizer, Windows 7 registry tweaks, process lasso, and the core parking.

-> At clean install I selected not to install the 3D drivers, as I have no 3D screen nor goggles, and it also seems to improve speed,.Do not install drivers if you do not need them, Gw2 does support 3D viewing, so if calculations are made according to gw2 programming: your fps will suffer due to needless calculations! These drivers are installed default using nvidia installer!
this might be the most interesting post in this whole thread.
1. he’s rocking the current number one motherboard for extreme gamers, overclockers, and enthusiasts. socket 2011 seems to be Intel’s choice for supper expensive processors.
2. he has noticeable fps gains when sli is enabled? is this because of the two x16 lanes on the rampage extreme?
3. he has the word “stock” next to his processor. did that mean no overclock? because 144 fps in wvw is sick. even if he’s by himself in a jumping puzzle.
It’s using DX9 (meaning old). It should have been DX11.
I know DX9 is old but it’s still considered the standard. if you were to look up a list of games that use DX11 it would.be a pretty small list.
and even if they support DX 11 it doesn’t necessarily mean performance.increase.
even the mighty unreal engine 3 has problems with DX11.
thank you.
that’s pretty much the answer I was looking for.
I have the same gpu and I was curious is adding a second would do anything.
this question is for anyone running an i7 (sandybridge, ivorybridge, or haswell)
and two gpu in sli/cross fire.
Are you seeing a fps increase running sli/crossfire over running only one gpu?
I dint know for sure but I’m guessing gw2 doesn’t support x2 gpu.
I’m also guessing no setup can improve fps when zerg meets zerg.
Say what you want about WoW but if you played it for the PvP you would know it rewards skill and team work you cannot advance in the ratings unless you win against other high rated teams lose and you drop rating.
I dont know what the game is like now but I played it from launch into being a top rated arena player for years. GW2 is a wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy behind on skill based pvp sadly Anet seems like they want the games pvp to die they are sticking to the farm based system for PvP. I just dont understand what they are thinking, who are they listening too what ‘pvpers’ are telling them the QP system is fine? The people that like the QP system dont like real competition just garbage farmers.
The WvW is not even as good as DAoC, DAoC had points you could earn only by doing RvR to buy pvp skills for classes improving their power.
No long term rewards for WvW zero rewards for Tpvp or even a basic ladder/ranking system = a slow death in what could of been a great pvp MMO.
rewards ruin pvp. rewards that have stats ruin pvp even more so.
why do you need rewards? can’t you just pvp because it’s fun?
oh, and I played dark age. I hated it. wvw is one hundred times more fun.
I stopped reading and laughed a little to hard when I read ‘console might be harder than PC’.
No, but to the main topic, I think both games are rather crappy where it stands now. In defense of WoW, I can’t say I ever got bored of the PvP in that game. The different battlegrounds, then came the arenas.. was a wonderful time.
In defense of GW2, if I must give it, the dodging mechanic on the right path, and the lack of a need to grind for gear is a good thing to have. That is, unless you want to look sexy. ^_~
Before the rage, yes, this is my opinion. I absolutely despise the PvP in GW2, and that’s why I stick to Smite for my PvP sensations. I may pop in once in a while just to try it out, only to realize that the PvP in this game just makes me want to kill myself. : (
smite is honestly one of the best games online.
you point out some of gw2 important features, but I feel like your making lite of them. the dynamic level system plus no gear grind is so important. all you wow fans talk all you want about wow pvp, but it will never be balanced. the first step toward balance in mmo style PvP is separate pvp and pve. I know spvp gets stale after a while, but I feel arena net at least understands what needs to be done. no other game company cares to do the things arena net is doing with gw2. abolishing the broken trinity, dynamic leveling, no gear grind, waging war on hackers. these reasons alone warrant any PvP fan to at least stick around and see what they will do next.

pretending groups don’t happen right now in sPvP is pretty naive.
my brother and I usually play a bit of sPvP each day if we’re on a similar working schedule. we look for a 11 person server and the one on the larger teams swaps right after joining. why wouldn’t we want to play together? if we’d want to play solo, we could join on separate servers.
right now it’s quite a hassle but works most of the time. if they’d make it any harder for us to play together, we would quit pvp and do more dungeons, at least we can play in a group there.also, whenever I enter the mists I usually make a quick detour to the tourny announcer and look if there’s one scheduled. I’d really like to try it out some time, but of course, I’ve never ever seen a tourny in progress or in queue. the list is always empty. so either I completely misunderstood the whole system (then how would I actually go about finding out if a tourny is running soon?) or my server (and/or tPvP in general) is just completely and utterly dead.
tl;dr: I want to play with my brother – in sPvP it’s pure luck if it works out after the first match (i.e. when the teams are the same size) and I simply can’t get into tPvP – not for lack of trying.
Thank you for telling everyone the truth.
do you and your brother tend to dominate when you pair up? Do you think organized teams roll randoms?
@Duncanmix
I see what you did there. well played.
Isn’t there a saying “you can only play the victim when you admit defeat”?
anyway When they add custom arenas you will get what you want that way.
if that wont make you happy then my suspicions were correct.
they plan to add customizable arenas, so you will get what you want that way.
create and host your own 1v1 or your own guild vs guild (depending on how customizable it will be)
@Duncanmix.
Ive been on both sides of the fence. I have some rl friends the are hardcore lol addicts and I play with them sometimes. Yes, playing with your friends is fun.
I played way too much w3 back in the day for that rts gameplay to keep my attention for long. So I tried other moba’s. LoCo, smite, smnc. Those are where I ran into the pubstomping. and I realized how unfair it was. Fun doesn’t supersede responsibility.
saying YOUR fun is most important in a game where other players are trying to “have fun” as well is selfish and irresponsible.
and just because dota 2 was the second most played game on steam doesn’t mean they have more than 15k players. The most played game on steam is/was/im sure still is TF2. secondly, your right dota2 IS still in beta and you have to answer a questioneer about DOTA to even be considered to get in. I wasn’t making that number up. I saw it on some steam server count page. If I could remember how to get back to it I would.
@Lukin
were only using moba as an example because its the only thing out there that is competitive, yet keeps the fantasy theme. Infact after most realized wow pvp was a joke, is why moba became so popular. Or at least thats how I see it. the time frame fits.
lol came out in 08 or 09 and that when wow player base started to drop.
lol, smite, DotA2, smnc, LoCo, HoN, and pretty much every other competitive pvp game has this problem.
What a lying little kitten. In a vast majority of those game if you queue as 5 you will only get matched up with other groups of 5. Same with if you queue as 4 or 3 or even 2. Clearly you are the one who never plays MOBAs.
Ive played them all, and then some (RoI, demigod, even awesomenauts which is like a megaman looking moba)
let me know what I can do to prove it and Ill do it.
as to your comment, sure some of those games match party of 5 with a party of 5. But that’s not the point. What happens to the players who solo queue and they get paired aginst 5 PWF’s?
Are you saying it doesn’t happen?
@evilapprentice
I wanted to find fault in your post after reading the title alone, but could not.
your complaints are valid.
But I feel like your running your highlighter over only the bad things, and not the positive things arena net has created.
GW2 is the only mmo with a pvp system where you are instantly lv cap upon entering and can choose any gear you want free.
GW2 is the only mmo that thinks true balance starts with the separation of pvp and pve. balancing skills can come later.
GW2 is the only mmo with a server vs server vs server gametype that spans across 4 maps and uses fun things like siege weapons, supply camps, and towers.
Plus the way the game is set up (able to join multiple guilds, fun events that reward all who participate, token system for dungeons = no rolling on loots) they took the competition out of pve and made it socialized, which strengthens the community.
If you have to quit, then quit. but your not going to find another game with all this.
I’m trying to learn Dota 2 right now, and it really highlights how important it is for a PvP game to be separated from PvE. Any game with a PvE mode, will always treat PvP as an afterthought. Anet simply lacks the developer manpower to focus on a game mode designed for a niche playerbase.
Dota 2’s gameplay is crap compared to GW2’s, but the game is much better done otherwise.
What What What What, you just lost ALL your credibilty, your clearly still a beginner when it comes to Dota2 but are quick to judge, it’s like someone playing hon for 2 games and saying this has best pvp ever.
I disagree. Everything he said made sense. All he was trying to say was that its super important to keep pvp and pve separate in the name of balance. GW2 is the only mmo with both that is successfully keeping them separate….oh and HoN sux….
as to the OP’s statement
1.) duals are a waste of time. The only players that like to dual are the ones that play classes that excel in a 1v1 situation. aka they just want to dominate you to feel better about themselves. They don’t prove anything and you definitely don’t learn anything, except what to do in a 1v1 situation which never happens in spvp or wvw.
2.) pvp progression through powerful items is a mistake and arena net will never do it.
3.) ladders? I don’t have an opinion I guess.
4.) wow? the battlegrounds were fun, but you act like wvw doesn’t exist. wvw is more fun than any wow battlegrounds.
There should NEVER be a pwf/join as a group option in spvp.
everyone that is saying there should either never played a moba or has ulterior motives.
I have played nearly every moba out there and every one has a problem with pwf/join as a group vs. random queues.
This is what happens. You get 6 tactical players all on team speak/ventrillo/mumble/whatever voip service their using VS. 6 randoms. the randoms get pwned hard and never play again. the randoms go to the forums to complain, and the pwf’s simply respond with “this is a team game”. In which the randoms respond “then why is there a option to join solo?”
lol, smite, DotA2, smnc, LoCo, HoN, and pretty much every other competitive pvp game has this problem.
Arena net was smart enough to know this and fix it before this problem ever started.
PWF in spvp should never be an option.
You could not be more wrong. If you think about this for a second you will realize that GW2 is most popular mmo this year, yet its most competitive side sPVP is almost dead. There are 290 sPvP servers and most of them are empty at all times. While if you look at dota or Lol, there are millions and millions playing it at any moment. You might ask yourself why is that? Well because its fun and you can play with your friends.
I want to play game with my friend, what are my options? Enter sPvP and prey we get in same team? Or joining some other websites and trying to cooperate with other 7 teams which could last hour until everyone is ready to have match ? I don’t wanna waste my time like this. I just wanna have game or two with my friend if I feel like it. As it is, you cant do this in GW2.
Anet is trying so hard to improve sPvP or rather tPvP, but main problem is not everyone wanna be top competitive, they should look more for semi casuals. Its crucial for community to have big casual scene, and from there you will grow some competitive. However not having this option to play with your friends, trust me its killing interest of many.
Anet should look at how dota and LoL made it big and simply copy system.
I wish I was wrong, my friend.
You are correct about 1 thing though. Team games are more fun.
sure you and your friend want to join a queue together. maybe a few others will do the same. But your missing the bigger picture. How many players will abuse this change you want?
You mentioned lol and dota, so I’ll assume you have played them. last I checked dota2 had a player base of around 15k and lol is in the millions. you and your friends queue up a game together vs a bunch of randoms. you are all on team speak together coordinating your attacks and dominating your opponents (randoms)…is that fair?
of course it isn’t. Where is the level playing field?
Arena net seems like the kind of company that takes things like balance and equal grounds seriously. with the way the attack hackers and bots, or make sure gear is balanced and every player has a fair chance by allowing everyone to have the same stats in pvp.
Isn’t allowing PWF in spvp an unfair advantage?
I played lol, and dota2. heck i played dota when it was just some W3 mod.
But I also played LoCo and SMNC and I have seen exactly what I am talking about happen over and over. The LoCo regular players have actually admitted to me (among other horrible things) that they prefer pubstomping randoms over fair fights.
In SMNC the developers actually tried to fix the pubstomping PWF’s vs randoms by creating a queue system that revolved around good players getting grouped with bad players. This fixed alot of problems for them, kudos to ubernet for attempting to correct this atrocity that plagues most pvp games. Do you want to guess who hated this change? Only the hard core SMNC players that like pubstomping randoms complained.
as to your comment about allowing PWF in spvp as an attempt to build spvp player base? It wont. And your silly for thinking so.
There should NEVER be a pwf/join as a group option in spvp.

are they planning to make ascended weapons craftable?
or at least always have a way to craft the latest stats?
that makes sense right? and would fit with the way things are now.
I don’t like the idea of gamers spending crazy amounts of time doing pve and dungeons to get the biggest stats and then walking into pvp (wvw) and dominating. that never made sense to me.
This is one of many, many posts that have missed the repeated developer statements that ascended equipment is intended to be available from every part of the game. This includes general wold PvE (Which is the focus of the next two months) as well as WvW and non-fractal dungeons.
In fact, they’ve even apologized for the move of putting the current gear exclusively in fractals, and agreed that it was a bad move in terms of how it looked to players.
Awesome. That was what I was hoping to hear. Thank you.
and yes your right, i missed any kind of statement from the developers. I should have been a better GW addict and kept on top of that stuff, or at least looked for a similar thread. but the truth is I only have roughly 10 to 15 hours a week to play, so I don’t spend my time reading the forums much.
I have crazy respect for arena net for making so many good choices. I should have just been more patient and not jumped to conclusions.

A guild member of mine told me arena net is planning to increase the stats on legendary weapons, thus making them broken instead of esthetically fun.
Normally I would not care weather something like this was true or not.
But because Arenanet worked so hard on creating the only game that is smart enough to realize the the only way to balance pvp and pve is to separate them.
Now we all know spvp is separate in every way shape and form, but wvw wont be.
does anyone know if there is any truth to legendaries getting bigger stats ?
people who choose to spend there time farming shouldn’t be rewarded in this way.
Are you talking about the particle effect itself?
Don’t get your beef with Pure of Voice. The only reason people don’t like it now is because it’s bugged with Hold the Line. Otherwise, AoE Condition Conversion is crazy good.
I agree with this. Pure of voice is good. (even if its bugged)
Wrathful Spirit is good to, for a tier 1 trait. getting a free boon when aegis is consumed from an attack. Why isn’t that good?
Infact, I have always felt the whole Honor line has too many good choices to just choose 3. With the exception of Pure of Heart, and Battle Presence (which are pretty terrible)
(edited by NeedCoffee.1402)
nice. hella fun to watch
Thanx for the response.
I knew about the staff/gate trick. I use staff alot in wvw. Staff is great for zreging around the map. When your zreg stops to attack something I pop #4 to buff my zreg mates, #2 for the bowling ball plus heal, spam 1 for some aoe goodness, then switch to hammer or gs. Oh I almost forgot #5 on staff. Blocking run aways and watching them fall down is crazy fun. Or when attacking a tower and some idiot invader jumps down to get like 2 hits in before he runs for the door. Cast #5 near door and laugh.
(edited by NeedCoffee.1402)
Ok, I almost have enough for the power/toughness/vitality set. (Currently using the power/precision/healing karma set)
What stat do you prefer on your wep? Zerker like your trinkets?
Oh and could you post a screenie of your stats?
(edited by NeedCoffee.1402)
this is a nice change without re-specing (if your using the standard AH build)
what does your gear look like? I know the build editor shows runes and trinkets but thats all s-pvp stuff. What are you using when your in wvw?

Loved reading this. I have been looking for something new, even if the AH nerf doesn’t affect me muchI’d love to say ill try this when I get home but I don’t have any AC tokens for monk runes, and I don’t have a clerics set anymore.
I’m using the precision, heal, power karma set.
On a side note, you mentioned you left black gate recently? We have been locked in wvw with them for over a month. So I’m sure we’ve seen eachother.
Sigil of Battle went up to 4.5 gold (ish) from 1gold (ish)
Sigil of Strength went up to 7.5 gold (ish) from 2 gold (ish)
any ideas as to why??
Sigil of Strength has a recipe at lv 400 weaponsmith:
Ingredients:
1 Orichalcum Ingot
2 Onyx Lodestone
1 Glob of Ectoplasm
Guess I know what im doing this weekend.
Thank you for all your input.
What do we think of it?
then name and stats suggest guardians……
I bought a set of them lastnight but hadn’t had alot of time to play with them (other then getting my face smashed in by black gate invaders )
I also noticed they arn’t selectable in spvp but i guess the mad king ones arn’t either. (both seasonal?)
at the very least they are better then dwana’s …….right?
on a randon (ish) note why the heck did superior sigil of battle/strength quadruple in price?

1) yes, it stacks. it also stacks with sigil of battle, and the staff skill “empower”.
2) yes, you can put sigil of str/battle on both your main hand and off hand. Sigil of battle would grant 6 stacks when switched in this scenario.
3) read this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guardian-Berserker-3-0-Build-1

Well here at SoR win or lose, we know we spend 70% of the day with less people on then opposition. So win or lose, we are in it for the fights and fun. ^.^ (Since our in-ability to sleep drives us to stay up late, wake early, skip sleep, just for the fight and fun.)
I just quoted this because I liked it. This is kinda the mentality of our server, and thats why I love it.
We may never reach T1 but we have awesome commanders and lots of fun!!!!!!!
The op has the correct state of mind. Honestly any other point of view is just selfish. The wvw community needs more who think like this. Otherwise there isn’t much that separates toxic communities from games like loco, or aika from us. If we want wvw to be more successful the community need to step up and help. If that means spilling all secrets then so be it. Look at league of legends. Arguably the most successful pvp game ever. Any “secrets” for lol can easily be found on sites like mobafire.
looks interesting, i’ll try it out in spvp later when i get home.
nice post, fun to read.
what runes do u use?
And no, guy must have been mistaken. AH will not trigger Dwayna
What he probably ment is that dwayna secondary effect from the 4th and 6th rune trigger AH. Which is does, at least in spvp, the regen triggers AH.
I can understand that, just in case though I did test it this morning and it won’t work. Thought they might have changed something.
I have only tested this in spvp and its well over a month ago so something might have changed, it triggered regen from the 6th rune applied a boon to the team and triggered AH back then.
What i do remember is that it was really hard to notic since the heal kicked in first and AH only ticked if the heal couldnt fill up your health pool.
Will test it tonight again and if its changed i will change the guide accordingly.
I just tested it 5 minutes ago just to make sure. Of course It works. Why wouldn’t it?
I crit, AH proc’ed, I got a regen boon.I think the person who said it doesn’t work tried it out against golems in the mist……..who don’t hurt you…….if you are at full health AH doesn’t proc……..and there fore Dwanas regen boon wont proc.
for those that still don’t think it works, test it out when your taking damage.
Maybe this it the reason more people are using runes like solider instead of fun
combo-lishious runes like Dwanas. because they couldn’t get it to work against stationary targets that don’t attack back.not that soldiers sux or anything, but I feel guardians have a fair amount of conditional removal already.

I just ran several tests. In that one I let it beat on me a little bit. You can see the AH procing from the crit. No regen. I think what you might be seeing is the proc (5%) that causes you to gain regen on being hit.
huh, ….you might be right.
what your saying makes sense becaues I have a low crit rate with dwanas, so maybe I just got it off the 5% 4 rune bonus.
