I missed it, ASUS made an announcement in an interview it is indeed a TN panel, though they claim it to be a high quality TN compared to the normal TN’s on the market. The pricing sits at $800 though, lol.
I’ll be awaiting the 30" 4k displays, 39 would be too big to have sitting directly in front of me. 27" is more than enough as it is, lol.
I hang out at the asus forums alot, i heard about 2-3 new monitors coming out with g-sync.
the funny thing is, the way i understood it was the g-sync tech was holding the monitor’s potential back.
I also learned you can not use g-sync in windowed mode. full screen mode only. (or at least that’s what the poisonous posters over at Nvidia said)
Hello everyone, the following is my current setup:
INTEL CORE I5 3570K
MSI Z77A-G45 GAMING
Asus Radeon R9270X-DC2T-2GD5 2048 MB
Corsair Vengeance Blue,1600-8gb 8 GB, PC3-12800, 1600 MHz, Single
WD WD Caviar Black 1TB 1000 GB, SATA, 64 MB, 7200 RPM
Corsair Builder Series CX500 V2 500 Watt, 20+24 Pins
Windows 7 Pro x64this is what I use and the current bid is 7$ on ebay. (plus shipping) (plus whatever bracket you need) (plus quality thermal grease)
I don’t pretend to know your finical situation, but i’m pretty sure you can afford it.
I heard that I could overclock my CPU, my question would be how to do it and how high can I overclock it without replacing the standard CPU fan. Thanks for the help!
Kesoria
ah.. i need a CPU with FM2 Soket, so what is the best for Gaming ? i have low budget ( 80-90€). i will use a 7870 VGA 2gb and 8 gb corsair ram
Like squish said, with alot of tweaks and software you can get decent frame rate from that AMD chip. But WVW will kill it. Currently only Intel i5’s and i7’s are able to produce playable frame rate in a zerg vs zerg situation and even then were only talking about 20-30 fps at the absolute most.
They say its because a-net doesn’t optimize their game, or because their game engine is too old to achieve anything better….neither of which i believe.
do you have all cores set to active? (or your mobo’s equivalent)
My i5-4670K at 4.6Ghz/5.1Ghz on ultra settings will sit at 90%-95% CPU usage in LA looking at the Forge on a busy night.
its just normal….
Do you (and possible the OP) have multithread disabled?
I used to have a AMD rig. I used most of the tweaks listed here:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=327922
and i was able to produce acceptable frame rates. (Zergs still killed my frame rate though.)
also gamebooster can give you around a 10fps increase.
http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
Depends on who you ask.
Here they will tell you no, it doesn’t improve fps at all as GW2 is CPU bound not GPU bound.
Other fourms I hang out at say it will absolutely improve frame rate. Being CPU bound has nothing to do with it. Game engines do not have nor need specific code for sli to improve frame rate.
So my take on it is: YES, it will improve your frame rate as long as your CPU doesn’t bottle neck your x2 GPU. So overclock that CPU to 8GHz and you should be good to go……..(sarcasm)
If it isn’t throttling; it could be something running in the background that’s keeping the CPU and/or hard drive really busy – Windows update? Antivirus update or scan? etc.
As for memory usage, my Windows 7 (64 bit) uses less than 900 Meg at idle. I just finished fixing up an older Win 7 (32 bit) machine and it uses about 550 Meg of RAM at idle. However, one reason for the low idle memory RAM usage is because I use Avast anti-virus (lowest memory footprint of any AV I’ve tested).
I do have a few unneeded services turned off though (stuff like Search Indexer, Windows Defender, etc.).
I like avast too but I always have compatibility problems with avast and unity.
If your interested, there is a free program that does mass service shut offs for win7 called smart v2
http://www.downloadcrew.com/article/3676-smart_utility
I use it all the time.
off topic: a 3DO EMU? thats awesome!!! I used to have that console but i cant remember a single game on that system.
fixed the link, not sure what happened there.
Windows 32/64 vs a 32 bit client isn’t a comparability thing. The main difference between Windows 32 and Windows 64 is Windows 64 allows you to utilize memory over 4gb. I don’t understand why someone would tell you to upgrade to Windows 64 when you only have 4 gb of ram. unless they assumed you would be upgrading to more ram as well. Windows 32 uses up to 4 gb of ram and nothing more.
also you are a prime candidate for game booster:
http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.htmlI realize it sounds tacky but I’ve gotten a 10 fps increase using it.
Win32bit limits each application poll to 3.25GB of ram (32bit mask Limit), Win64bit limits each Application pool to about 64GB of ram(for 64Bit Applications Only). That is the difference.
While Win32bit normally cannot see more then 4GB, if you enable PAE you can see up to 64GB of ram on Win32bit as well. Application Polling is still limited to 3.25GB (which GW2 is 32bit, so that is it’s limit under either OS).
4GB of ram is not an issue with GW2, since GW2 will rarely go above 1.9GB of used Ram. Win732/64 bit normally wont use more then 1.2GB of ram (after a fresh boot, let it sit for a good 15mins and youll see it page that unused service memory back down. Win7 at boot will use 2.9GB of ram). So even with 4GB of ram, you should have about 1,1GB of ram free (or SO) while running GW2. So that is enough to run 1-2 additional applications (Such as Firefox with Pandora) in the background.
I prefer to Dumb things down so the average user can understand what I’m explaining.
and I get upstaged by a tech head….real nice.
It could still be his memory. we have no idea what he has running in the back ground.
it could be his psu, if he’s only running a 4-5 hundred watt psu with a 5 GHz overclock and a video card something will come up short.
truth is we don’t have enough info, so at this point it’s all guesses.

The 4GB of ram worries me a little. windows 7 uses like 2gb sitting idle. but your processor and video card should be fine.
with a minimal amount of ram you cant afford to run anything else in the background while GW2 is running. Not even a internet browser.
have a look at this page for some excellent tweakage:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=327922
I have used all/most everything on that page at some point or another. Some of it may be a tad technical but most of it works well.

This sounds like a windows thing to me too. Do you update windows?
How often do you run reg cleaners?
I used to have a amd rig way older than yours and i got semi normal (normal for GW2) FPS.
I ended up taking it in to a repair shop because even with my knowledge I couldn’t figure ot out. Temps run fine per MSI, no danger of overheating. Ranprime95 for 12hrs without issue. When I dropped it off the firs thing he did was check my psu with a meter and it read fine. I was told to come pick it up as it was rtg and didn’t give the tech any trouble running GW2.
I was told to test it. As soon as I did, it crashed. So we began testing the memory sticks and slots, and we still had crashing problems. On a whim, we tested out another gpu (Radeon 7750 I think) and it didn’t crash after fiddling with it quite a bit. So we are thinking we have the problem solved but I’m still apprehensive that it’s not the gpu and that was a fluke.
Anyway. I planned for a completely new gaming rig next spring and don’t want to invest a ton of money into it to replace the gpu. I need something that can handle GW2 and that is budget friendly. I’m thinking about the xfx ati radeon 6770 1gb to tie me over until my major upgrade. Thoughts?
Also, I’m no dummy. My psu is a 650w.
hey aglow, I hope this doesn’t sound silly, but have you tried to plug you psu/computer in a different wall socket?
I used to have this crazy tyan dual socket mobo and a decent psu (thermaltake tough-something…i think) anyway If i plugged it in the same wall outlet as the monitor it gave me problems, but if i ran an extension cord and plugged it in a different wall outlet the problems went away.
But it really suffers with players over NPCs.
I’m guessing its because player controlled gameobjects have things like rigidbodies and physics and NPCs are more like static objects with a path.

If he got the VG248QE he won’t need to resell
Buy the G-Sync kit, unscrew backing from monitor, pop it off, disconnect monitor speakers and hook up G-Sync module, then put the backing back on the panel. Voila, G-Sync monitor.
wish i could get an release date on those upgrade kits.

I’m super happy with my Asus VG248QE. It might not be 27" or 2560×1440.
But It is 1ms response time, and 144 Mhz with the option to upgrade to 3D, built in cross hair overlays, and one of the few monitors than can light boost.
Besides, if your gonna go with 2560×1440 you should be looking a 3-4 gb GTX 680 (not a 2gb)
(edited by NeedCoffee.1402)
It seems to me, the more players in one area the bigger the drop.
it’s always nice to hear a positive story about fps.
now that you have your fps under control, you should check out sweet FX.
make gw2 prettier without a loss in fps.
out of all the millions of games out there…there is only like 60 or 70 that are dx11.
There is probably a sick license fee that goes along with creating games with dx11.
I cant see it being worth it.
Have a look at this:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?s=9cf5bcad2d9121ab5f984d2e4a56ae6f&p=3686451&postcount=1
try as many of the tweaks as you have the patients for. I guarantee you will see improved fps.
I formatted last week and after installing gw2 I wasn’t getting the fps I used to.
I tried everything I could thing of, different drivers, various Windows tweaks, core un parking, I was ready to give up and blame it on some recurrent update.
then I remembered a program I didn’t install this time around because it seemed gimmicky, and I never used its boost capabilities because I never saw a performance increase from it. Razor Game Boost its the program I’m taking about.
I installed it last night just for the optional tweaks it offers. I don’t know if it was the tweaks or something else the program has but I got +10 fps WITHOUT using the boost option.
It would be interesting if everyone reading this tried the program and posted you results.
http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
the boost option doesn’t do anything special if you have a decent gaming rig. It temporally shuts down unnecessary programs, and processes running in the back ground while your gaming. When your done gaming they come back. like I said I’ve never seen any performance increase from this, plus some times it’s has issues with gw2.
So I recommend just installing it and running the optional tweaks.
oh I forgot. game booster all has some useful tools. a fps counter and video caption engine. It’s very similar to the one on after burner so if you have that it’s nothing new.

Do you guys think it would be better to get a bad power supply and maybe look to get
Intel Core i7 4770 – 4+4 Cores @ 3.4Ghz (OC to 4.2 Ghz)The i7 will not help much but a low quality power supply will hurt a lot.
You don’t need the XFX 850 that you picked the XFX 650 would have plenty of power. That’s a good brand choice made by Seasonic. That PC won’t use but about 400 Watts during a full system stress test so 550/ 650 is enough overhead and the 650 will allow you to upgrade to a high end video card in the future.
RIGHT BACK to my statement here.
That is pretty much junk look for a Seasonic or XFX in the 550/650 watt range.Main other concern is if you are buying 2 X 4GB of the memory you might be better off posting a link to where you are buying this from.
i have had a few junk power supplies. they use poor quality parts, which means the advertised wattage isnt real. They also tend to only last a year or 2.
pc power and cooling make the best power supplies (in my opinion). They actually make their own power supplies instead of purchasing them from a 3rd party adn slapping their name on it, they use high quality parts, their advertised wattage is way under what they can really push, and they come with a 10 year warrantee.
Hate to tell you this, but OCZ owns PCP&C these days after their buyout, and they also do not make their own units, nor have they ever. Purchasing a newer PCP&C unit you may get a Seasonic, Super Flower, Win-Tact, or Sirtec depending on the unit you purchase. The older Silencer 610 models were Sparkle (FSP).
They got bought out? lol, I guess I havent paid attention to them in a long time.
I’m using an 860 I bought back in 08 (ish)
Does OCZ offer a 10 year warrantee?
EDIT: I just looked at their zx 1250 gaming powersupply. Only 5 year warrantee and they use that crappy plug you own wires system. yuck, no thankyou.

I think CPU. clock is the king here, when I upgraded my very old i7 920 overclocked
3G to latest i7 4770k
3.5Ghz, I couldn’t notice the fps improvement, I regretted so much for spending this huge amount of money, but after I overclocked i7 4770k to 4.5g, I got huge fps gain, so if you can’t get more Hz from CPU upgrade, dont buy new CPU
That seems to hold true with alot of what people are saying.
thats pretty awesome you got a haswell to OC to 4.5. Did you use a water setup?
I watched a newegg video where a guy OC’ed like 8 different haswell cpu’s. Only about half of them got to 4.5
I run everything at peak with no hiccups whatsoever in any game type on my i5 3570k ivybridge. I have it OC at 4.2 running on a Z77 mobo
what kind of fps are you seeing in wvw? specifically zerg vs zerg.
I cant get sweet fx to run with gw2. game just auto crashes.
Am I not supposed to do this?
I am pretty sure i have done it before, so I assumed it work, but not so much.
there is another program called park control that can disable core parking without a reset, allowing you to do it on the fly without a regedit.
" broadwel is 30% more power efficent than haswell at the same performance level "
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7318/intel-demos-14nm-broadwell-up-to-30-lower-power-than-haswell
paragraph under 1st pic.Meaning broadwell is unlikely to give any significant performance advantage over Haswell and is likely to follwo the trend and be even hotter when OC’d.
Dont wait for braodwell it wont be anythign special.
You could get a Sandybridge(2500k/2550k/2600k/2700k), Ivybridge(3570k/3770k), or Haswell(4670k/3770k) and be good to go even after broadwell comes out as they will all produce the same performance once Overclocked using the same cooler.
but…
haswell-e should be released around the same time and I think I read its not going to be on LGA 2011, but chipset x99.
It may be the mobo to have next year.(or year and a half ish)
go through all the tweaks listed here.
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=327922
specifically core parking and process lasso.
I’m kinda in the same boat. I play mostly wvw and my pc gets stomped during zerg vs zerg, or taking a keep.
anyway I have been wanting a new pc (motherboard, cpu, and ram, actually) my budget is around 800ish. I have done a ton of reading, research, and asked a lot of questions.
here is what I learned.
cpu must be Intel. the 2 newest Intel cpu in our price range are haswell, and the ivy-e.
asus makes a motherboard called the hero for haswell it only runs around 200 and it has almost everything it’s 500$ big brother has. both the i7 4770k haswell and the i7 4820 ivy-e are around 330$. however the ivy-e is a different socket, and therefore needs a different motherboard. socket 2011 motherboards seem to be more expensive but I think over all will have a.longer shelf life.
(edited by NeedCoffee.1402)
I’m gonna look into this thread and links provided. I get the same FPS under the exact same settings and hardware (R9 280X is rebadged 7970)
[Edit]
I’ve installed ProcessLasso and tried out the Game Mode on it and I think so far it’s just the core parking modification doing some work here but I’ve gotten a whole 2 FPS increase at the least. I’m sure I could get to what Rogier’s at though with some more working.
your not gonna see huge fps increase with process lasso, but you will see smoother game play. next time you have gw2 running, minimize it and pull up process lasso. right click on gw2 and choose for gw2 to run in high priority.
you should also try as many of these tweaks as you have patients for.
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=327922especially process lasso, and core parking.
if your using kitten without a hdd tough might want to look into a program called primo cache. it makes your ssd almost as fast as a ram disk.
I’ve tried unparking and boosted my framerate from 40 to 60/70.
amazing, thanks for the help!
Wow a +20 ish fps increase. thats awesome.
You should also take a look at process lasso too
its a more intelligent and customizable method of controlling all your processes in windows.
there have been many times when i bought a game on steam and forget to set it up in process lasso and windows assigns the game to run in the background or automatically gave it low priority. Gamers cant trust windows to assign priority to our games.
you should also try as many of these tweaks as you have patients for.

have you tried any other games ?
if so how did they perform?
Well..Actually not not so much. I mean, I get pretty good fps in PVE (Mostly 60 FPS pretty much everywhere and 30-50 FPS in crowded Lions Arch)
Huge events and big WvW fights gets down to 20 FPS, but I guess its normal…
then its true.
amd/radeon users don’t need d3d9 support.
and here i thought i was on to something
your d3d9 says unsupported also.
Its starting to look like all radeon cards say unsupported.
I wonder if its possible a recent update is causing a bug with radeon based cards?
I was using a Radeon 5770 up until a few months ago and I had no problems with it.
Got any reliable sites I can download direct x 9c from? All the ones I’ve tried either viruses or simply had no effect.
I’m working on that.
it seems simply reinstalling direct x isn’t working.
Hope it helps.
yes ty, it does. are you experiencing any problems?
I don’t think it could be internet latency lag, i have fiber optic with 30mbps. I’m getting frame rates that wildly fluctuate between 20-60 fps when I move around. when I’m standing still it’s like 40-60. with all settings minimal it still dips very low when I’m moving around. I tested it mostly in divinitys reach near the bank.
can you post a dxdiag.txt?
1. type dxdiag in search window in start menu and hit enter.
2. dxdiag diagnostic tool window will pop up.
3. hit save info and it will create a dxdiag.txt file for you.
4. post the .txt file.
I kinda think allot of the problems people are having are all related to direct x issues.
if you type dxdiag in the search field within start menu and hit enter it will open the direct x diagnostics window.
click the save button and it will create a dxdiag.txt file.
open the .txt file.
if it says: d3d9 overlay not supported ….it should say supported.
I did some research and found others with this problem.
but they made it out to be a amd/radeon thing. As if Radeon cards don’t need to support d3d9? I know this isn’t true because I was using a Radeon card a few months ago and had good performance from it.
so in the spirit of trying to squash this problem I need anyone with a Radeon based card to post your dxdiag.txt
(edited by NeedCoffee.1402)
can you post a dxdiag.txt?
I’m starting to think some of the lag problems, crashes, black screens are all direct x issues.
but I need to do some more reading.
ps I’m considering purchasing the same processor.
almost everyone who is having problems seems to be direct x related.
type dxdiag in your search window in the start menu, then hit enter.
the direct x diagnostic too window will pop up.
click on save info and you will get your dxdiag.txt file.
open it.
in the display drivers section d3d9 overlay should say “supported” next to it.
if it says “not supported” then thats your problem.
re install directX.
Found it perhaps there is hope yet I might make it for WvW reset lol
this: D3D9 Overlay: Not Supported
needs to look like this: D3D9 Overlay: Supported
Its a direct x 9c issue. And it seems almost everyone who is having problems looks like your dxdiag.txt file.
try reinstalling direct x and maybe you can still get in on some wvw action.
can you give us your dxdiag.txt?
it may be a direct x issue. they seem to be going around like the flu.
check your dxdiag.txt
if you see: d3d9 overlay not supported
you will need to reinstall direct x 9c
Ok, I installed it..got rid of the extra crud it installed with it..
Ran the registry thing. But in the uninstall section it still just shows everything thats in the program and features section. No GW2
hmm, if it ain’t there maybe it never finished installing?
go ahead an delete any gw2 folders and try to reinstall
is it only in wvw this is occurring?
did they add that overflow map to wvw?
what was your ping previously?
if it is only in wvw, there is probably nothing that can be done as it will be something arena net needs to fix.
you can try downloading tcp Optimizer and running that to see if it helps, but don’t expect much if it’s a server side issue.
if you don’t have CCleaner download it now, it’s free.
you can use its uninstall ability to locate gw2 and uninstall it.
then use it to clean out garbage files, then run a registry clean up.
CCleaner is one of those programs EVERY Windows owners should have.
this looks like your problem: D3D9 Overlay: Not Supported
that’s your video overlay for direct x 9c.
try to reinstall direct x
sounds like a big ole mess.
some kind of memory leak perhaps.
I would uninstall everything, use cc cleaner to clean up junk files/registry, and start over. reinstall direct x too.
